JULIE KOPRAJDA
JULIE KOPRAJDA October 17, 1914 - October 17, 2004 God wanted mamka to celebrate her 90th birthday with Him. On October 17, 2004, Julie Koprajda passed away peacefully at SOGH on her birthday at the wonderful age of 90. She was born
in Pohorela, Slovakia. Her favourite story to tell to anyone (even those who did not understand Slovak) always began with "I was the 9th of 11 children..." and she was the last surviving sibling. She came to Canada and settled in Winnipeg in 1969 to start a new life with her husband Jozef and younger son Ondrej. She worked at the Centennial Concert Hall until 1984. Her faith was very important to her, she was a longtime parishioner of Visitation of Our Lady Slovak Church then attended mass daily at St. Mary's Cathedral until recently. Left to cherish her memories are sons Jozef, (Anna) and Ondrej (Anna); grandchildren, Anna (Matej), Emily (Ondrej), Jana, Anne (Robert) and Andrew; six great-grandchildren; Anne Resek and family in Alberta; and many relatives in Canada and Slovakia. Julie was predeceased by her husband Jozef Koprajda. Thanks to the doctors and nurses of 4, Unit 1, who took care of her during her stay at the hospital. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 21 at 9:30 a.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. with viewing one half hour prior to service. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery (on Osborne Street). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Julie's memory to the charity of one's choice. WINNIFRED LAKE
WINNIFRED BURNETT "WINNIE" LAKE (nee CAMPBELL) Winnie passed through to be with her Maker on Friday morning, October 8, 2004 surrounded by her family at her home in Honeymoon Bay, BC. Born in Neepawa, MB on August 13, 1925, she grew up on the farm near McCreary, MB. As a young woman, she moved to Winnipeg, where she met and later married David Lake on August 2, 1952. Winnie and Dave were blessed with a daughter, Brenda. Winnie then found her calling as a home care attendant for Manitoba Home Care Services where she worked for thirty years. She also cherished her role of "Mom" to the many neighbourhood children, families and university students who called 751 Fleet Ave. their "home". Winnie's "United Nations of Fleet Avenue" produced many successful university graduates. 1985 was a year of mixed blessings for Winnie. She gained a son-in-law (Ian Morrison) in September and was widowed when she lost Dave in October. Winnie finally became a Gramma to Rhianon in 1999, which gave her good cause for her annual trips to Vancouver Island. Winnie fell ill in the fall of 2002, and decided to travel to B.C. for Christmas and medical treatment. Her diagnosis, admission to Cowichan Hospital, and treatment in the Cancer Clinic was swift, professional, and life saving! Winnie decided to sell her home in Winnipeg and in August 2003, she moved to Honeymoon Bay to be with her family. Winnie had almost two wonderful years in Honeymoon Bay and she cherished a recent visit from her friend, Arlene Wiley. Winnie leaves to mourn Brenda, Ian and Rhianon; her cousins in England; her many friends and family across Canada, the U.S., Jamaica, and the far East. Special thanks to Dr. Willie Pewarchuk, Dr. Lauren Jackson, Erika, Sharon and the staff at C.D.H. as well as the nurses and aides at home care. Memorial service, Thursday, October 21 at 2:30 p.m. Reception to follow at St. Margarets Anglican Church, 160 Ethelbert St., Winnipeg, MB. Winnie asked that donations be made in lieu of flowers to The Cancer Clinic, c/o The Cowichan District Hospital Foundation, 4-466 Trans Canada Highway, Duncan, BC V9L 3R6. Ph. 250-701-0399.

During these years, he was also employed by the R.M. of Lac du Bonnet as a grader operator for 18 years. For the next 33 years, he was employed by Agassiz School Division as a School Bus Driver - a job he dearly loved and took great pride in. Dad was a special part of all of our lives. You could always tell when he walked into the room. He was a big man with a big heart who loved and welcomed the company of family and friends and always did his best to make them comfortable. You could always count on him for his help or just a laugh. Sometimes he even played the accordion for us. He also loved playing cards - these times were always precious to him. Recently, he became involved in table top curling, floor curling and bowling games which he enjoyed very much. Dad always maintained a great interest in his farm which now lives on in his son. Even after moving to town, he had to "come for a spin just to check-up" to make sure everything was kept up to his standards. He always held a special place in his heart for those who constantly lent a hand at the farm as well as at home and especially during his recent illness. Dad had many "Pride and Joys" in his life, including his loving wife and children but his greatest was his two grandchildren with whom he shared a close and wonderful relationship with. They loved spending time together and the kids were always amazed by grandpa's wit and wisdom. They will forever keep his advice, humour and "funny sayings" in their hearts forever and already miss him more than words can say.
