ANNE OLEKSIUK

ANNE OLEKSIUK Peacefully, in her sleep, Anne Oleksiuk passed away at the age of 92 years, at Holy Family Nursing Home. Anne was born icon in a small village in Poland on April 3, 1912, where she lived until she was 15 years old. She came to Canada in 1927 and settled with relatives in Benito, MB. She later moved to Durban, MB where she stayed and worked for Frank and Elsie Plummer. In later years Anne moved to Winnipeg, where she eventually worked in a sewing factory until she retired at the age of 65 years. She enjoyed spending time with her three grandsons, Hugh, Jamie and Kevin. Annie is survived by her daughter-in-law Elsie; son-in-law Ken; and her three grandsons. The family sincerely thanks Holy Family Nursing Home, St. Paul Unit for their excellent care and concern. A private family Burial will take place at Brookside Cemetery. CARL ALBERT PORATH September 30, 1922 - October 15, 2004 Surrounded by his family Carl Porath peacefully passed away Friday after a brief and sudden illness. Carl, the fourth of twelve, grew up around Piney, MB. He served overseas in the Second World War. Shortly after his return from service, Carl met and married the love of his life, Clementine, with whom he shared 54 years of marriage. Dad worked at the Canadian National Railway until his retirement. Throughout his life, Dad pursued his love of carpentry and took great pleasure in helping family, friends and neighbours. He also enjoyed the outdoors with his family at West Hawk Lake, camping, fishing and boating. Dad was a gentle, hardworking man who possessed a strength of body and spirit with a determination to provide for his family, We are truly thankful for our life together. Dad was predeceased by his parents, Albert and Esther; his brother Neil and sister Kae. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Clementine; children, Leonard (Jackey), Carol (Dale), Miles (Janelle) and Cathy (Rob); grandchildren, Sharon, Carie, Allison, Neil and Ryan; great-granddaughter Sydney; brothers, Alvin, Garry and Lars; and sisters Bertha, Donna, Doris, Eileen, Grace and Janice. We know that, while you have passed from this life, you are with the Lord, remaining forever in our hearts. We love you dearly and will miss you greatly, husband, dad, grandpa, brother. JEANNETTE STEWART

JEANNETTE CAMILLA STEWART (nee BOURGEOIS) With great sorrow we announce the sudden passing of Jeannette on Saturday, October 16, 2004 in her 55th year. Predeceased by her beloved husband, Gordon in 1994, her mother, Rose-Aime Bourgeois in 1987, and a brother, Maurice in infancy, she will be mourned by her daughters, Connie Leed (Quentin), Terri-Lynn Roberts (David) and Lorraine Stepaniuk (Robert). Also left to mourn are her father Charles Bourgeois (Blanche); twin sister Jeanne Hutcheon (Don); sister Noella Heilman; and brothers, John (Lucie), Roger (Carol), Aime, Raymond, Paul (Maggie) and Louis. Her grandchildren, Amber and Devin Stewart, Kimberly-Ann and Heather Roberts, and Michael and Jade Stepaniuk will miss their Mama dearly. Jeannette, who was raised in a large and loving family, lived all her life in Transcona. In September 1967 she married Gordon who tragically also passed away at an early age. Since Gord's passing Jeannette was fortunate to always be surrounded by her family and wonderful friends. Her door was open to all and there was always a pot of coffee brewing. She worked at the Winnipeg Taxation Centre for the past 18 years and retired only a few months ago. Prayers and viewing will be held at the Transcona Funeral Chapel, 1800 Day St., on Wednesday, October 20 from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. A memorial service, presented by Chaplain Mark Scott, will take place at the Transcona Funeral Chapel on Thursday, October 21 at 2:00 p.m. Cremation and a private family interment will take place at a later date. A reception will follow the service with the location to be announced at the service. The family would like all Jeannette's nephews to consider themselves honorary pallbearers. ISTVAN (STEVE) TOTH 1934 - 2004 It is with great sorrow that we the family announce the passing of Steve at the Seven Oaks Hospital on Saturday, October 16, 2004. Steve was predeceased by his mother Ilone and two brothers, Frank and Charlie. Dad was born icon in Hungary on December 24, 1934. He immigrated to Canada in 1956, where he wanted to start a new life, and family. He was a hard worker who loved his family and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. MARGARETE WIEBE

MARGARETE WIEBE (nee HAGEN) After a long struggle with Alzheimer's disease, Margarete gently passed away on October 16, 2004 at the Beacon Hill Lodge. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Wayne Hagen (Michelle), Veronica Ducharme (Joseph) and Darlene Nixon (Don); grandchildren, Beverly, Tabatha, Jolyn, Jason, Crystal and Matthew; great-grandchildren, August, Zoe, Decland and Caelyn. A heart felt thank you goes to Nurse Paloma, Nurse Margaret and aid Lynda for their compassion and love during this difficult time. Margarete was born icon in Pirmasens Germany on April 17, 1936. At 18 she immigrated to Canada and became a citizen in 1969. Margarete has lived across Canada from Nova Scotia to British Columbia and made Winnipeg her permanent home in 1973. She was a caring, loving mother who dedicated her life to her three children. Margarete will be remembered by her family and friends for her faith, love of dogs, arts and crafts and sense of humour. Flowers are gratefully declined, but donations can be made on Margarete's behalf to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 5 Kent St. Winnipeg, MB R2L 1X3. JEAN BAYRAK It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Jean Bayrak (nee Wolyniec) at Concordia Hospital on Friday, October 15, 2004. She will be lovingly missed by her son Edward Kaczor; daughters, Nadia Zahynacz and Deanna Cameron (Rod); her six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Irene Obodzinski; brother Chester Wolyniec; sister-in-law Vera Wolyniec; and numerous nieces and nephews. Jean was predeceased by her husband Nicholas Kaczor (1946) and her husband Ivan Bayrak (1999); as well as her parents Peter and Anna; her brother Raymond Wolyniec; and nephew Edward Wolyniec. Jean was born icon in Western Ukraine on August 2, 1923. At the age of six, Jean came to Canada with her family and settled in St. Norbert, MB. The family eventually moved to the north end of Winnipeg where she attended King Edward School. She later held several jobs and was married to Nicholas Kaczor until his passing. It was during her employment at New Pathway Publishers that she met Ivan Bayrak. They later married and she devoted her life to her family as a full-time mother and homemaker. Jean was kind, fun loving and good humoured. She loved her grandchildren and was always sure to have Baba's homemade soup ready whenever they came to visit. She enjoyed caring for her flowers and garden, and loved spending time with her family and friends at the cottage just north of Gimli. Jean led a full, busy life until arthritis affected her legs in her senior years. We are forever grateful for Mom's continual love, care, support and guidance. The family wishes to thank Drs. Baria and Gorski and staff at Concordia Hospital for their care and kindness after her surgery. Prayers will be held 7:00 p.m. Friday, October 22 at Korban Funeral Chapel, 907 Main St. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 23 at Sts. COLONEL RET'D ALPHONSE ELIE BEAUPRE Q.C. Colonel Ret'd Alphonse Elie Beaupre Q.C., born icon June 15, 1923, passed away peacefully on October 1, 2004 at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre. Al was born icon and raised in the small francophone farming community of La Broquerie, MB. He served with the Royal Canadian Air Force in England during the Second World War. There he met and married Catherine (Kay) Mathews. After the war he attended the University of Manitoba where he obtained his degree in law. Upon graduation he rejoined the Royal Canadian Air Force serving in the Judge Advocate Generals Office. He served with distinction within Canada and overseas, retiring as a full Colonel. Upon his retirement from the Canadian Armed Forces he joined the National Parole Board as a sitting member in Kingston, ON. When he retired from the workforce he and Catherine moved to Thunder Bay. Al was predeceased by his parents; and his brothers, Phil, Eugene, Joseph, Edmund and Paul; and sisters, Agnes and Margaret. He is survived by his brother Leo and sisters, Jean, Jeanette, Yvonne and Marie. Al will be sadly missed by his wife Catherine; and sons, Barry, Tony and Pierre; daughters-in-law, Beverley Drew and Pierrette Chouinard; and his grandchildren, Liam, Noah, Marie-Lyne, Julien, Myles and Nicole; and great grandson Owen. The family would like to acknowledge and thank the paramedics and the medical staff at the hospital for their kindness during this difficult time. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, October 5 when family and friends gathered in Corpus Christi Roman Catholic Church for the Funeral Mass beginning at 11:00 a.m. celebrated by Rev. P.M. Stilla V.F. Interment was in St. Andrew's Cemetery. Visitation for friends was held on Monday from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m in the Sargent & Son Funeral Chapel, 21 N. Court St. with the Vigil Service beginning at 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorials to the Northern Cancer Research Foundation or the charity of your choice would be appreciated.

LYNNE BUCHANAN

LYNNE ELLEN BUCHANAN 1948 - 2004 It is with great sadness that her family announces the passing of Lynne Ellen Buchanan at the St. Boniface Hospital on Sunday, October 17, 2004. Lynne was predeceased by her parents, James Stanley Buchanan and Jennie Buchanan (nee Simkin). She is survived by her brothers, Neil (Eileen Shorten) of Kennett Square, PA, and Jay (Betty Trevenen) of Winnipeg; nieces, Kelley (PA) and Meaghan (Little Rock, AR); nephews Matt (PA) and Stefan (Calgary, AB); aunt Beth Simkin; and numerous cousins. Born in Columbia, South America, Lynne spent her formative years in Winnipeg, graduating from Grant Park High School. After earning a B.A. (English) from the University of Manitoba, she travelled extensively in Europe, living in London, England, while studying at the School of Fine Arts, and in Bergen, Norway, where she apprenticed as a weaver. Upon her return to Winnipeg, Lynne was the creative force behind, and an active partner in, Swallows, a restaurant in Osborne Village which was described as an "ahead-of-its-time combination of quality and casual sophistication" (Marion Warhaft). Later, Lynne lived in Santa Fe, New Mexico, London, England, and Toronto, before returning to Winnipeg in the early 1990s. Lynne was a woman of great talent and creativity who led a full and rich life. She will be sorely missed by those who knew her. The family wishes to thank the nurses and doctors of the ICU units at the St. Boniface and Grace Hospitals for their compassionate care. In accordance with Lynne's wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no formal service. Friends are asked to call 774-3397 regarding a private celebration of Lynne's life on Saturday, October 23, 2004. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations in Lynne's memory may be made to a charity of one's choice.

VALERIE CHENG (nee MOORS) Peacefully, with her family by her side, it is with deep regret that we announce the death of Val on Monday, October 18, 2004 at the North York General Hospital, Toronto, ON, at the age of 49 years. Val was predeceased by her brother Donald. Val grew up in Transcona and then moved to Toronto where she eventually met Robert and started a family. Val's main passion in life was spending time with Robert and Braden. Other activities included making jewellery, art classes and involvement with the P.T.A. at her son's school. MARIE BLANCHE DANEAULT February 28, 1905 - October 16, 2004 Born in Saint Francois Xavier, MB, Marie Blanche was the daughter of Emile Daneault and Marguerite Anne Falcon. She was predeceased by sisters, Annette and Melanie; and brothers, Lionel, Alcide and Duncan. Marie Blanche enjoyed a long, successful career as a school teacher in both Manitoba and British Columbia. She retired from Winnipeg School Division No. 1 in 1970. She was an accomplished weaver and painter and her works grace the homes of many of her friends and extended family. She loved to travel, enjoyed fine dining and was an avid reader who still kept up with current events until her demise at Centre Tache. She will be remembered as a gracious, elegant lady who was proud of her heritage and devoted to her family. Funeral service will take place Saturday, October 23, 2004 at 1:00 p.m. at Saint Mary's Cathedral, 353 St. Mary Ave., Winnipeg, Celebrant, Fr. Michael Koryluk.
