SHAWN SMOAT
SHAWN SMOAT It is with deep sadness that the family of Shawn Martin Smoat announces his sudden passing on Saturday, October 9, 2004. Shawn is survived by his loving wife Mandi; beautiful daughters, Tia, Taralena; and numerous other relatives. He was predeceased by his parents, Harold and Wanita Smoat. Shawn was born
in Winnipeg on December 2, 1963 and was an only child. We have lost a friend, husband, father, cousin and nephew. The heavens have found a new star. We will miss him every moment, every second, every breath. We will hear him whisper over our shoulder, expect to see him every time we turn around. Remember his beautiful laugh, his soft touch, his helpful nature. Our Fathers Shoes We remember our father's shoes. They seemed to us as children, terribly big and heavy, As though they had to match the size and weight of his responsibilities. We remember seeing the sole worn clear through, And a strange thought comes along with the memory. If we had held that shoe up and looked through that hole We could have glimpsed, perhaps, Something of our father's own soul, the courage that Let him stand for what he believed in, the strength in Which he carried himself; and in some sense carried us, Every step of the way. It seems you've spent a lifetime Looking out for your family, working hard, Being responsible and always trying to do the right thing. And just in case you've ever wondered If it was appreciated, it always has been and it always Will be more than words could ever say. You'll be forever in our hearts, - Love your children. At Shawn's request, cremation has taken place and no formal service will be held at this time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Shawn's memory to an RESP for his children that will be set up at a later date. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 586-8044

CYRIL WOOD
CYRIL KENT WOOD Peacefully on October 12, 2004, passed away at the age of 92. Born in Winnipeg, MB, May 25, 1912 Cyril eventually met and married Laura Shersby in October, 1935. At that time, Cyril's father had purchased a parcel of bush just north and east of Balmoral. Being the "dirty thirties" the young newly married couple had no other options but to move away from the city and begin the struggle to brush out a small mixed farming operation, build a home and raise a family. Anyone who knew Cyril knew of his great affinity for animals that ultimately made farming difficult for him! Every cow, workhorse, chicken and pig had much more value to him than mere "marketplace." Cyril was a "dog's best friend" and throughout his life he had many a stalwart companion. He will also be remembered by family and friends for his quiet strength and rich deep voice and laughter. In 1955, Cyril and Laura moved to a home and smaller acreage situated closer to Balmoral. Here they continued to raise hogs until the 1970's when Cyril began work as a Security Guard for Bristol Aerospace at their Propellant Plant east of Stonewall. He retired at age 65 and he and Laura began to enjoy much more leisure time at their beloved cottage at Laclu. Cyril was predeceased by his wife, Laura in 1998 and daughter June in 1976. He is survived by his son Wayne (Eileen) of Teulon; grandchildren, Wendy (Ron), Kent (Ruth), Sherry (Glen) in Manitoba and Sherry (Bob), Diane (Rick), Kim and Debbie in Ontario; and numerous great grandchildren. The family would like to thank Drs. Graham, Pillay and McTaggart, the wonderful nursing staff at Teulon Hunter Memorial Hospital and staff at the Teulon Medical Clinic, Cancer Care Manitoba and Winnipeg Health Science Centre. Cremation has taken place with MacKenzie Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. A private interment will take place at Victoria Cemetery in Balmoral at a later date. If friends so desire, donations may be made to the Teulon Hunter Memorial Hospital or Cancer Care Manitoba. "To everything there is a season"

For most of his working years, Cyril was in the scrap metal business and for a good portion of that time he was working at Industrial Metals. Retirement was a difficult adjustment for Cyril as he was used to being busy for so many years. Cyril's greatest passion then became spending time with his grandchildren, which remained a very important part of his life. One of his great loves was working out with his friends at the Wellness Institute where he developed many life long friendships. Cyril had a heart of gold and a magnetic personality that attracted everyone who came in contact with him.
