LILLIAN DANISH
LILLIAN B. DANISH (nee FRASER) 1907 - 2004 Peacefully, on October 10, 2004 at Misericordia Hospital, Lillian passed away at the age of 97 years. Lillian was predeceased by her husband Bill, her mother Dora, and brother Archie all in the same year - 1982, and her father John Fraser in 1942. Lillian was born
in Russell, MB. She was a proud descendant of the Red River Settlers, as both grandparents emigrated from Scotland - the Orkney Islands and Inverness. At age 16, Lillian attended and graduated from Dominion Business College. She returned to Russell and commenced employment at a local bank. There she met her soon to be husband, William Danish, a student from the University of the Manitoba, Faculty of Agriculture. After a courtship of four months, they were married in 1932. Bill was hired as a Manitoba government creamery inspector and they spent many years travelling the province. They were transferred back to Winnipeg, though Bill still travelled out of town much of the time. Lillian was happy in their lovely home on Niagara, enjoying her garden, cooking, baking and entertaining so beautifully. She was "in demand" as a judge at the local Manitoba Horticulture Fairs, judging what she herself did so well. She also took painting lessons and painted some lovely works, mostly of flowers and nature. After Bill's death, she became a volunteer at the Cancer Research Centre. In 1997 she was honoured to receive the Barry Adams Award for outstanding volunteer service to the Manitoba Cancer Treatment & Research Foundation. After several years living alone, she moved to a suite in Evergreen Place, near Augustine Church. Up until the past few years when she was no longer able, she was extremely active in the life of Augustine. Her church friends and affiliation were so meaningful and close to her heart. She eventually had to move to Lions Manor, for more care, where she was able to partake in many of their outings and activities. A year ago, after more serious health concerns, she became a resident at Misericordia Hospital. She is survived by her niece Mary Edwardsson (Evert) of Winnipeg and their children, Kenneth and Anne Edwardsson; and her niece Margaret Ann Hudson (Harvey) and their children, Bill, Jim and Heather Hudson all of Fort Frances, ON. The family wishes to extend sincere thanks to the caring staff at the Misericordia, Cornish 6 and Lions Manor. A celebration of Lillian's life will be held on Saturday, October 16 at 10:00 a.m. at Augustine United Church, 444 River Ave., with interment to follow at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens.
