BRENNA ELAINE GOODFELLOW passed away peacefully Tuesday morning September 21, 2004 with her family by her side. During a long battle with MS this lady showed all who knew her how to live. She lived with love for her family and friends. Her wit, her courage, her ability to never complain about her own circumstance, her charity, her overall good humour and the grace of God are what kept her. GLADYS HAAS November 7, 1934 - September 21, 2004 With great sorrow, the children of Gladys Haas announce her passing on September 21, 2004 at the Gimli Community Health Centre. She was predeceased by her husband Rudolph; father Alexander Lariviere and sister Margaret Pell. Mom will be lovingly remembered by her children, Bradley (Alanna) Haas; Blair (Bev) Haas, Michele (Barry) Einarson, Colleen (Larry) van Leeuwen, Sheila (Pierre) Dufault and Laurel Haas. Granny will be dearly missed by Lindsay and Amber van Leeuwen; Kyle and Mitch Einarson; Alex and Katie Haas; J.P. and Riel Dufault; Kendall, Kelsey, Lux and Caleb Haas; Kayla, Haley and Mitch Tomczak. Gladys' memory is also cherished by her brothers, Charles (Sara) Lariviere and Leonard (Phyllis) Kalk; sisters, Irene (Leonard) Guiboche, Mary (George) Hayek, and Shirley Champagne. Born in The Pas and raised in various communities in Manitoba and northwestern Ontario, Gladys married Rudy and came to live in Camp Morton in 1954. Quickly becoming part of the social fabric, she would forge countless lifelong friendships within this community. Although Gladys tirelessly managed the family farm and also worked outside the home, her greatest commitment by far, was to her children. In later years, the two things that gave her infinite joy were her many grandchildren
and toiling in her garden. Mom (Granny) will forever be remembered as the most loving of parents - unselfishly giving of herself, dispensing invaluable advise and unfaltering support, and always lending an ear or helping hand. Mom's love was truly unconditional, her kindness infinite, generosity consummate and inner strength unbreakable. Mom, your influence in our lives was beautiful and profound and you will always live in our hearts. The family wishes to thank the Gimli Community Health Centre staff for their care and compassion. We are truly grateful for having access to the family room of palliative patients, which allowed us to remain continuously by Mom's side during this difficult time. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held on Saturday, September 25 at 1:00 p.m. at Gilbart Funeral Home in Gimli.

ALFRED (ALFIE) MAYDANIK It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Alfred Maydanik at the age of 79 years, at the Riverview Health Centre on September 22, 2004. Alfie fought a valiant and determined battle with cancer for three years and always retained his feisty sense of humour. Alfie was predeceased by his beloved wife Elma of 38 years, whom he has missed terribly over the past three years; his mother and father, and one sister. Alfie was born
and raised in the Winnipeg area. He worked in the construction industry and then was self-employed. He enjoyed his many weekends over the years with Elma and the family at Lill and Sandy's cottage at Gull Lake where he would fish and swim. His favorite hobby was attending the horse races. He loved taking movies and pictures at all of the family gatherings. Alfie will be greatly missed by Sandy and Lill Bond, Joan Witt, and Ed Obacz, and all of their families, and his two life-long friends, Johnny and Bill. We wish to thank all the staff at E3 at Riverview Health Centre for their kindness, understanding and care. WALTER MORRIS 1937 - 2004 Walter, aged 67 of Comox, passed away suddenly in Victoria on Sunday, September 19, 2004. He is survived and will be dearly missed by his beloved "Barbsie"; daughter Victoria; sons, Paul and Mark (Jocelyn); sisters and brothers, Barbara (Jack), Betty, Tom (Elaine), Bob (Susane), Cathy (Bruce); his sister-in-law Fran (Gord), his uncle, aunts, cousins, his many nieces and nephews as well as his best friend David Stanley. Walter served with the Canadian Armed Forces for 33 years, first as a Navy Pilot, then with the Air Force. Following his retirement, he became very active in his community, working at the local cable TV channel, volunteering in the computer club at the Extended Care Unit of St. Joseph's Hospital and at the Comox Valley Boys and Girls Club. He loved to sing, and enjoyed all the productions he was in for the Co-Val singers. He sang with both Jazz Noire and the Sounds of Seventeen. He was a member of the church choir at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart, CFB Comox. He will be warmly remembered as one who was always willing to offer a helping hand to anyone who needed it. Walter was truly "Bigger Than Life". FRANCIS (FRANK) EDWARD PENROSE PEARSON September 5, 1921 - September 23, 2004 Quietly passed away early in the morning of September 23, 2004 at MICU unit of St. Boniface Hospital. Frank was predeceased by his parents: his mother Florence; his father Francis; and his twin boys at birth, and brother Robert. Frank leaves to mourn his loving wife of 52 years Isabel (nee Miller); brother Jack (Suzette); sisters, Lillie (Jack) and Donna; sister-in-law Irene; and nieces and nephews. Frank spent his early life growing up in Stonewall. The family's life revolved around the Stonewall Hardware Store. His early working days were spent in the Stonewall Quarry. He was active in sports and sang in the church choir. Frank enlisted in the R.C.A.F. in 1939, and was originally stationed in the Maritimes. He was transferred to the Royal Airforce and stationed in Charterhall, U.K. where he was assigned to the Bomber Command with expertise in Radar Defense (known as the Silent Service). Frank returned to Manitoba in 1946 and began a 32 year career with Winnipeg Supply. Frank was the manager of the Mining Division until his unit was sold to Steel Bros., U.K. where upon Frank managed the company for the new owners. Frank spent 12 years with Steel Brothers. During his working career, Frank achieved many awards from both humanitarian and industry related associations. Over 44 years ago, Frank was diagnosed with diabetes. which significantly changed his life. He began by working with Dr. John Moorehouse with the Children's Diabetes. Camp; he was an original member of the Manitoba Diabetes. Branch, and was at one time the president of the Manitoba Diabetes. Association. Frank worked with the National Diabetes. Association and became president for two years. During his tenure, Frank and Isabel visited 38 branches across Canada to promote well-being for diabetes. awareness; held the National Convention in Winnipeg, and was guided and friends with Drs. Banting and Best. Frank was an active participant in the Canadian Diabetes. Association all of his life. Frank was a member of the East Kildonan Kiwanis Club for 40 years. He was a member of the Canadian Institute of Mining and Metalergy. Frank was a member of several legions over the years, but latterly a member of Legion 215. Frank was a member of the Outlook Club and an active participant. For many years, Frank and Isabel travelled including over 25 years of wintering in Hawaii. The summers were spent at the cottage in Kendal Inlet, Lake of the Woods. Frank loved sailing with Isabel as the crew; and spent many happy hours fishing on the lake. The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to all the doctors, and especially the nurses and orderlies of the MICU unit of St. Boniface Hospital, for their kindness, support and care of Frank over the last several days. Memorial service will be held on Monday, September 27 at 11:00 a.m. at Knox United Church, 400 Edmonton St., with Rev. David Maruta officiating. Reception to follow in the church hall. A private family interment will take place in Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Frank's honour to the Canadian Diabetes. ROY JOSEPH ROBERT October 3, 1933 - September 21, 2004 "A kind and gentle heart has stilled..." It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our husband and father on September 21, 2004 at the age of 70 years. Roy leaves to mourn his passing and to cherish many fond memories, his beloved wife Eileen; daughter Nicki Olynyk (John); son Jeff Robert (Erika); grandchildren, Sarah and Josh, Jessica and Brayden. Roy was predeceased by his parents, Maud and Joe. Roy grew up in St. Vital and apprenticed as an auto mechanic. In 1971, he and Phil Andre partnered and ran Andre Motors Service Station for eight years. A career change found Roy working at Western Propellers for 10 years. At retirement, Roy and Eileen moved to Lac du Bonnet where he further enjoyed his yard work and the peacefulness of lake life. These times were shared with friends and family. Roy was also a long time member of the Knights of Columbus. The Community always enjoyed his commitment to his volunteerism. Roy will be sadly missed by his loved ones, numerous cousins, brothers and sisters-in-law, four nieces, friends and neighbours. The family wishes to thank Dr. Pascoe and the I.C.U. staff at the St. Boniface Hospital for their dedication and determination while Roy was in their care. TONY SIERMACHESKY Peacefully on Tuesday, September 21, 2004, Tony Siermachesky, aged 93, passed away at Betel Home. Tony was born
in Bruno, SK, on February 6, 1911, to John and Paranka Siermachesky. He was the first born
in a family of 11 children. As a young man he worked as a bartender in Yorkton, SK, and later, in 1942, moved to Winnipeg, MB, where he was employed at the Stock Exchange Hotel. In 1962 he married Laura Manahan and together they established their residence on Selkirk Avenue where they resided until 1998. They then moved to the Knights Centre in Selkirk, MB, where Tony enjoyed the friendships of the many residents, joining them for coffee most mornings and especially enjoying the wonderful meals that Ann prepared for them. In June of 2003 Tony became a resident of the Betel Home. Tony was predeceased by his wife Laura in August of this year; his brothers, Nick, Roman, Harry and Gregory; his stepson Jack Manahan and Jack's son Dean. Remaining to celebrate his life are his sister Mary (Peter) Ewasiuk; his brothers, Peter (Sally), Joseph, John, Steve and Mike (Bertha); his stepson Leonard (Dorene) Manahan and their children, Christine (Doug Wasnie), Greg (Sandi), Susan (Rick) Quinn, David (Lisa); stepdaughter-in-law Diane Manahan and her son Ward (Cindy); and 15 stepgreat-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. In keeping with his wishes, a prayer service will be held on Friday, September 24 (tonight) at 7:00 p.m. at Gilbart's Funeral Home with a private graveside service at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens on Saturday, September 25 with Father Art Seaman officiating. ROBERT J. STE. MARIE Born January 24, 1914 in St. Boniface, passed away peacefully Tuesday, September 21, 2004 at Riverview Health Centre after a short illness. He is survived by his brother Ted of Toronto; his loving wife of 64 years Erma; his son Bill and wife Lorraine of Los Angeles; grandchildren, Greg (Karen) and Leslie (Kevin) of Vancouver and his daughter Lorna and husband Gary, grandsons, Michel and Terrell (Helen). Bob spent his working life as an electrician with CNR retiring in 1979. It was not only his trade as an electrician but his remarkable ability to turn his hand to anything that resulted in a large amount of his own time being spent helping with volunteer building projects and creating or repairing anything that his family and friends needed help with. A lifelong resident of Transcona, he enjoyed his garden and summers at the Brereton Lake family cottage. As a husband, father, grandfather and friend, he will always be remembered for his kindness, quiet generosity and good humour which he maintained right to the end. The family wishes to express its thanks to the palliative care staff at Riverview Health Centre for their committed care-giving and the palliative Home Care nurses and Health Care aides who, with Dr. J. Mulder, made his final days easier. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cancer Care Manitoba or the Riverview Health Centre Foundation.

OLAF VERNON SUND May 22, 1922 - September 22, 2004 Suddenly on Wednesday, September 22, 2004, Vernon Sund passed away at the Stonewall Hospital. Survived by Dorothy (Puddifant); his wife of 55 years; sons, Gordon and Allan; grandchildren, Andrew and Carmen, Trevor and Allana; sister Mary Laing and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents, Henry Norman Sund and Annie (Broadfoot) Sund; brother Norman and sister Henrietta. Vernon was born
and raised in Woodlands. He spent many years as a carpenter, on grain elevator construction and greenhouse construction. When he returned to Woodlands to commence farming, he still built many houses locally. Vernon was keenly interested in his community serving many years as a municipal councillor, as a school trustee on both the Woodlands Consolidated School Board and the Interlake School Division, a vestry member of St. George's Anglican Church, and a founding member of Oak Park Lodge. A highlight of his service was receiving his Life Membership pin from the Union of Manitoba Municipalities having served over 35 years. During his later years his mobility was hindered by his progressing muscular dystrophy culminating in his use of a wheelchair. In spite of this, he still maintained his cheerful disposition. A memorial service will be held in Woodlands Community Hall on Monday, September 27 at 2:00 p.m. Rev. John Stennett will officiate. ANNE TECKLENBURG It is with deep sadness that the family of Anne Tecklenburg announce her sudden passing on September 21, 2004, at Concordia Hospital, Winnipeg. Anne will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 47 years, Walter; her daughter Louise Maciejkow (Tim); her grandchildren, Andrew, Jeremy and Sarah, who were the love of her life. She will also be terribly missed by her honourary family, Catharine Moir, Neil Charnock, Lauren and Hannah and innumerable dear friends. She leaves behind her cherished pets, Tessa, Davina, Lucky, Pixie, Banjo and Sulu. Anne was born
in Epson, Surrey, England and immigrated to Canada in 1955. Anne married Walter in Kingston, ON in 1957. They moved to Manitoba and built their dream home in the R.M. of Springfield to raise Louise in a more rural setting. Anne had a tremendous love and talent caring for animals and their farm became a refuge for orphaned zoo babies, horses, donkeys, goats, dogs, cats, chickens, rabbits and birds to name but a few. Anne was a very unique individual, a lady of great presence and stature. She had an "aura' about her and lit up any room she entered. Anne was a great conversationalist and would talk with anybody and everybody from all walks of life. Her wit and charm endeared her to all that she met. Anne had many talents but her first and foremost role in life was that of being a care giver. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Her overwhelming generosity and care giving was her trade mark that will be forever remembered by those that knew her. The family wishes to extend heartfelt and sincere appreciation to Dr. Dennis Caners and his staff for many years of excellent medical and personal care. Funeral service will be held on Monday, September 27 at 10:30 a.m. at Klassen Funeral Home, 1897 Henderson Hwy., followed by interment at Sunnyside Cemetery, off of Garven Road.
