February 5, 1901 in Petersfield, MB. She was predeceased by her husband George Hamilton in 1979. She will be remembered and always loved by her children, Albert and Mary Hamilton, Shiela and Lloyd Alder, Alison and Donald Hanna, their children and her great-grandchildren. MABEL CAROLINE LOUISE (MICKEY) KENNEDY We announce with heavy hearts but gentle relief, at the Winnipeg Convalescent Home, on Monday, September 13, 2004, the passing of Mickey Kennedy of Winnipeg in her 82nd year. Widow of Harold Vincent Kennedy (Ken or Haddie); predeceased by parents, Hubert Bruce and Mabel Louise Gingell; and sisters, Faye Gertrude and Shirley Viola Louise; survived by brother Franklin Richard Ernest Bruce. Mickey was the dear mother of Sandra Lee and her husband Randy Evans of Quesnel, BC, Vincent Wayne and his wife Wendy of Brockville, ON, Bruce Mitchell and his wife Glenda of Killam, AB, Shawn Michael and his wife Rosemarie of Ottawa, ON, Gerald Rory and his wife Shelley of Edmonton, AB, Kerry Jo-Anne of Winnipeg, MB, Melanie Louise and her husband Matt Moreland of Hamilton, ON and Kevin John and his wife Charlynn of Quesnel. There was also another son Shannon, who died in infancy in 1949. Mickey Kennedy also leaves 14 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Mickey spent most of her life in Winnipeg, but also spent adult years in Toronto and Hamilton. Besides being a loved mother, she revelled in music and dance and enjoyed a good laugh, she was a tireless worked who turned her hand to a multitude of tasks, and a friend to anyone who asked for her help. She spent her last years in the Winnipeg Convalescent Home, where she was exceptionally well cared for on the second floor by a great staff. Expressions of sympathy should be made as a donation to a favourite charity and would be appreciated by the family. A memorial service celebrating Mickey's life will be held later and advised to all who may be interested in attending.

DORIS KSIAZEK July 1, 1911 - September 11, 2004 Peacefully with family at her side, Doris Ksiazek passed away at the Health Sciences Centre. Doris was predeceased by her husband, Alexander; parents, Cornelius and Tekla Bendera; sisters, Nellie Slobodian, Mary Mariash, Anne Pasaluko, Helen Romano, Sister Charitina S.S.M.I., Pauline Soluk; and brothers, John and Mike Bendera. Doris was born
in Thalberg, MB and grew up in a large and loving pioneer family. Always daring and adventurous, she joined her girlfriend on a trip to the World's Fair in Chicago in 1933. It was here that she met the love of her life, Alex. They married in 1936 and made their home in Illinois. After Alex's passing in 1973, she returned to Canada and resided in Winnipeg. Living life to the fullest, Doris was always ready to have company or go out for a good meal or a card game. Her family was very precious to her and she took time to keep in touch with all. We will treasure memories of special times together. The family expresses gratitude to the very caring staff of home care and Holy Family Nursing Home. ROSE MALINOWSKI (nee GOTTFRIED) 1926 - 2004 After a lengthy and courageous battle with Parkinsons, surrounded by her family, Rose passed peacefully with dignity from this world into the next on Sunday, September 12, 2004 at the Gimli Community Health Centre only three days after their 60th Wedding Anniversary. Rose is survived by her loving husband Joseph; her sons, Carl (Judy), Robert (Penny); daughters, Amelia (Brian) Humeny, Valerie (Randy Hutch); grandchildren, Barbara (Drew), Cheryl, Diane (Burhard), Suzanne, Jennifer (Brian), Glenn (Theresa), Jeffrey (Charna), Leanne, Christopher; great-grandchildren, Andrew, Carlen, Veronica, Jacquelynn, Vanessa, Jessica, Sarah, Tyler and David. Also surviving are her brothers, Willie, Frank, Leo; sisters, Ann, Mary, Agnes, Florence, Terry, Liz and Kathy. in Gimli on February 16, 1926. She enjoyed life to the fullest with her love of sports, especially baseball and curling. Mom and Dad travelled to many far away places but especially enjoyed travelling in their motorhome. Many family members will always remember Babcha's delicious cooking and her hand stitched quilts will keep them warm for years to come. EVELYN ELIZABETH (BETTY) MARTIN (nee MACKAY) Betty Martin, formerly of Warsaw Avenue in Winnipeg, passed away peacefully on September 10, 2004 at the Pembina Place Personal Care Home. Betty was born
Evelyn Elizabeth Mackay on August 5, 1917 in Vancouver. Two years later her family moved to Winnipeg when her father, Rev. John Mackay, accepted the position of Principal of Manitoba College. She attended Isbister School and Riverbend School for Girls (Balmoral Hall) and received her BA from United College in 1939. She graduated from the School of Nursing at the General Hospital in 1943, and went on complete a one year diploma course in Public Health nursing at McGill in 1946-47. Her nursing career was a defining part of her life, first in public health units around the province and then, from 1959 to 1978, in the Premature Nursery at the Women's Pavilion of the General Hospital. She remained an enthusiastic and active member of her Class of '43 Alumni, faithfully attending annual reunions with her classmates until this past year. It was while working in Flin Flon in 1947 that she met John Bennett (Jack) Martin, who was prospecting and mining at nearby Cranberry Portage after serving overseas. They were married in Winnipeg in 1948 and moved into the house on Warsaw Avenue. Many strong friendships were formed on Warsaw Avenue and Betty lived there until her health required that she move in 2003. Jack predeceased her in 1987. Betty was most of all a loving and devoted mother and grandmother and is remembered and sorely missed by her children Nancy of Victoria, BC, David and partner Liz of Toronto, Paddy (Pat) and wife Barbara of Winnipeg; and her grandchildren, Liam and Corey. Betty will also be remembered by her sisters-in-law, Sheila Lacroix (Guelph) and Ethel Mae Mackay (Long Beach, CA); and brother-in-law Michael Martin and his wife Beth (Toronto); as well as her many nieces and nephews. Everyone who knew Betty will remember her as a giving and generous person who lived her faith through kindness and charity. She was an active member of Harrow United Church and inspired many with her cheerful and optimistic outlook on life. The family wishes to extend our sincere appreciation for the outstanding care and attention shown to Betty while resident at the Pembina Place Care Home. Memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 14 at Harrow United Church followed by a reception in the church and internment in the family plot at Old Kildonan Presbyterian Cemetery. JOSEPH McCARTHY Peacefully, on August 23, 2004, in Boston, MA., Joe, formerly of Winnipeg, beloved son of the late Daniel Joseph McCarthy and Margaret Mary (Cronin) McCarthy, passed away. Joe was predeceased by his brothers Larry (Ella) and Jerry (Anna) and leaves to mourn his passing his brothers Dan (Mary) and Ed (Gail); sisters Rosaleen (Bill), Sheila and Maureen (Peter); as well as 21 nieces and nephews and their families. Joe attended St. Ann's School and St. Paul's High School and College and worked in Winnipeg and Montreal. He served with the Air Force for five years, being stationed in Montreal and Metz, France before emigrating to the United States where he resided in New York and Boston, holding positions as a draftsman until his retirement in Boston. Joe's family offers sincere thanks to Joe's dear friends Bill and wife Mary in Boston for their caring and support. REMEDIOS "REMY" MENARD (nee PRIMOLO) Peacefully, after a brief, courageous battle with cancer, Remy passed away with her family at her side, on Saturday, September 11, 2004 at the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg. She is survived by her loving husband, Paul; devoted daughter, Perla (Tim); nephews and niece, Sonny, Aimee, Marvin and Justin (mother Beth) all of Winnipeg; brothers-in-law, Norm (Jacqueline), Bruno and Dennis (Faye); sisters-in-law, Helene, Yvette (Reg Keats) and Aline; parents-in-law, Nelson and Rachel Menard; nieces and nephews, Serge, Sandra, Cindy, Michelle, Monique, Robert, Marjolaine and their families outside of Winnipeg; as well as numerous cousins and friends across Canada, in the United States and the Philippines. Remy was predeceased by her parents, Pedro and Eulogia (Laureta) Primolo. Remy received her education as a registered nurse at the University of Santo Thomas, Philippines and immigrated to Canada in 1967. She met Paul soon after and they were married in 1968. After a couple of moves, they settled in Winnipeg where Perla was born. Remy enjoyed tending to roses and orchids and devoted most of her free time to volunteering in the community, notably Magdaragat and the Folkarts Council of Winnipeg, where she made many friends over the years. Weekends that Mom and Dad weren't on a quick trip south of the border, she tried her luck at draws at various charity events and fundraisers around the city. Her enviable luck always amazed us all. Most important to Remy was spending time with family, watching basketball games and concerts, and hosting family meals at "Auntie's Restaurant." Memorial Mass will be held on Thursday, September 16 at 10:00 a.m. in St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, 355 Andrews St. at Mountain Avenue with Rev. Fr. Diosdado Parrenas presiding. AUDREY STELLA POOLE (nee SYS) After a long and courageous battle with cancer, Audrey finally succumbed to her illness on Saturday, September 11, 2004. She was predeceased by her parents, Camiel Sys in 1952 and Amandina Sys in 1956. Audrey was also predeceased by sisters, Marguerite DeBaets in 1997 and Jeannette Gheeraert in 1984; and one brother-in-law Armond DeBaets in 1999. She is survived by her husband of 37 years David Poole; two sisters, Mary Kesteloot (Andy) and Esther Vermeersch (Homer); brother George (Camilla); and brother-in-law Jules Gheeraert (Pat). Also left to mourn her passing are many nieces and nephews, Dan (Carol), Len (Monique), Linda (Joel), Lorraine (Alain), Donna (Ken), Lori (David), Marie (Doug), Raymond (Margaret), Audrey (Leo), Joe (Darrian), Ginny (Mike), Chris (Norm) and Penny (Adrian). Audrey was born
in St. Boniface and continued to live on the dairy farm on which she had been raised until 1974. After the sale of this farm she moved with her husband Dave to Grande Pointe, where her parents had first settled when they came to Canada from Belgium. There, Dave and Audrey set up a grain and cattle farm operation. Audrey always had a great love for children and although she did not have any of her own, there was a special place in her heart for the many children of her brothers and sisters. Because she lived with her brother George, his wife Cammy and their daughters before she married in 1967, she was like a second Mom to Ginny, Chris and Penny. Her love for children continued and as her nieces and nephews began to have their own children, she developed a very close and loving relationship with Chris' boys, Sean, Brody and Brett. Audrey was a kind and generous lady whose home was open to everyone. She always welcomed friends and family, from near and far, into her home for meals and overnight stays. She took great pleasure and pride in baking, cooking, knitting and entertaining guests. Audrey also enjoyed travelling and visited Belgium, Wales, Holland, United States and several cities and towns in Canada where her nieces and nephews resided. Audrey was a loving spirit with a great zest for life. As a teenager, Audrey learned to sing and play the guitar, and together with her brother George and her nephew Dan, they formed a band. The three of them performed at many weddings, dances and gatherings of family and friends. Her love for music lasted throughout her lifetime and Audrey continued to perform for as long as she was able. She spent countless hours with her siblings' children when they were young and, more recently, her great-nephews, teaching them to sing some of the many songs she knew how to play on her guitar. Also of great interest to Audrey was her garden, in which she took much pride, as well as the many animals on her farm. She was lovingly referred to as "Aunty Audrey" by many neighbours and friends of the family. She will be greatly missed by the many people in her life who loved her dearly. TRIBUTE TO HENRY RATTAI On June 5, 1932, Henry Rattai was born
into the loving home of Phillip and Ernestina in Saint Ouens, MB. He was the fifth in a family of seven children. With four brothers and two sisters, his life on the farm was adventure filled. In 1948 Henry moved to the city, but his heart stayed on the farm. He married the love of his life, Elfriede Hintz in 1952. As soon as possible they bought a little home on Furby Street. Into those walls God added the laughter of three little children, Ruth, Beverley and Gerhard. Dad loved his wife Frieda deeply. He loved his family, both immediate and extended. Family reunions were always a highlight for him. He enjoyed fishing trips with his brothers, and cottage days with his family, where he roused up many tennis games, competing fiercely with his ever improving children and grandchildren. Thanks Dad for teaching us how to drive, and how to water ski at a young age. Thanks for showing us how to love your spouse, how to forgive, how to live life to the fullest, but most importantly how to put God first in life. Henry started learning his carpentry skills informally on the farm. He worked for a few years as a journeyman carpenter, and then founded Kraft Construction in 1959. Over the next 45 years, Kraft built many schools, bridges, churches and other commercial industrial buildings around Winnipeg, across western Canada, the Northwest Territories, the Yukon and northwestern Ontario. He was not just a builder, but a visionary too. He had a potential development plan for every vacant property that he saw. Henry served on the boards of not less than a dozen different organizations. He served on the board of the Winnipeg Construction Association, longer than any other member to date (1979 - 1994). Besides birthing Kraft Construction, he also founded the Kraft group of companies. Henry volunteered a lot of his time and energy to charitable organizations. Foremost amongst them was his home church. Immanuel Pentecostal where he served on the board for years, directed the band, led the choir, and taught Sunday school. Unexpectedly, on Thursday, September 9, 2004 while playing a game of golf with three of his close friends, he died at Falcon Lake. Our loss is great. Our pain is deep. Left to mourn his passing are his brother Ed Rattai and wife Elsie, sister Dorothy Kokot, Gordon Rattai with his wife Elizabeth, Herman Rattai and wife Jeanette, and sister Agnes Rist with her husband Seno. The immediate family, Elfriede, Ruth, Beverley and Erhard, Gerhard and Rosalie, Bryan with his wife Kelly, and Laura, Sheena, Samantha and Lucas all say "We love you Dad, and will treasure the good memories of all that you meant to us. Thank you for who you were. We'll see you on the other side."
