ANDREW ROBERT MALO January 2, 1999 - September 1, 2004 Peacefully on Wednesday, September 1, Andrew Robert Malo (age 5) went to play with the angels. Andrew leaves to mourn his parents (Rob and Tracy); brother Jeremy; sisters, Chelsea and Dorian; and special godparents Patti and Dieter Bonas. Andrew also leaves to mourn his grandparents Omer and Germaine Malo, and Ed and Lillian Taylor. Andrew was also blessed with numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He touched a great many people in his short life with his feisty spirit. Andrew was instantly popular wherever he went. His expressive eyes, his giggles and his adventurous personality drew people to him. Andrew will be missed very much by many people who knew him, and cared for him with love and compassion. Andrew's family would like to thank each and every one of them for really seeing our little "Bubbaloo." KLARA MARTINENKO (nee FAST) On Thursday, August 26, 2004 Klara at the age of 87 years, passed away after a lengthy illness with her beloved husband and family by her side, at Holy Family Nursing Home. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband George, sharing 67 years together; sons, Victor (Benita), Tony and Walter (Sharon); grandchildren
, Shane (Linda) and Tanya; great-grandson Anthony; and brother Alex (Shirley); and sister Irna in Kazakstan. Klara was born
in Barwenkowo, Ukraine on September 16, 1916. Klara was predeceased by her parents, Peter and Margarita Fast; brothers, Peter and Herman; sisters, Greta, Lydia and Katya. Klara studied to be a Veterinarian in Prischib-Halbstadt and trained for the 1936 Olympics. Klara and George were married on July 23, 1937 and they had twin girls, who passed away 10 days after birth. During the war years, the family was relocated to a refugee camp in Germany and from there, immigrated to Canada. Her greatest joy involved her family. She was a great supporter and always encouraging, loving and proud of everything they did. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Holy Family Nursing Home for their kindness and compassion they gave to Klara and support for her husband and family during this difficult time. GEORGE EARL McKAY On Sunday, August 29, 2004, George McKay passed away at the Heritage Lodge Nursing Home at the age of 87 years. George was born
in Winnipeg on August 11, 1917. He finished his school years at Gordon Bell High School. After the Second World War, George worked for many years in the grocery business, managing stores in Winnipeg, Kenora and in Thompson where he had worked for 25 years before retiring and moving back to Winnipeg in 1982. He served overseas for five years during the Second World War before being discharged from the R.C.A.S.C. in 1945. George's favourite hobbies were fishing and tending to his cottage and boat at Point Lake in Thompson, MB. George was predeceased by his father George C. McKay in 1917; and by his mother Florence (Dumont) in 1953; his wife Helen in 1979; his brothers, Gordon, killed as a member of the R.C.A.F. of the Second World War in 1942, and Charlie in 2002; his sisters, Annette Pryor in 1998 and Irene in 2002. He is survived by his son James of Edmonton, AB; and by his sisters, Florence Salter and Yvonne O'Brien. The family extends their thanks to the nurses and staff at the Heritage Lodge and to Dr. Ian Maharj. At George's request, there will be no formal service. MARY MEEHAN
SISTER MARY MONICA MEEHAN Sister Mary Monica passed away peacefully at the convent of the Good Shepherd in Toronto. The Sisters and numerous members of her family were present. Sister Monica made her first profession in 1949 and went on to serve in Halifax, Windsor and Rome. Later she served in Winnipeg for many years and then went to Toronto where she remained until the time of her death. Interment was on August 28, 2004 at Mount Hope Cemetery in Toronto. She will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by many staff and students at Marymound. She was instrumental in setting up the Marymound Endowment Fund to assist former students who wished to continue their education. In Sister Monica's memory, a donation may be made to the Marymound Endowment Fund.

MONICA CATHERINE MELVILLE (nee DELANEY) Peacefully, on Wednesday, September 1, 2004, Monica Catherine Melville passed away at the Victoria General Hospital with her family by her side. She was predeceased by her loving husband John (Jack) and by her son-in-law Gregory Bakun. Mona will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Kathleen; sons, Robert (Diane) and James (Ann); and her grandchildren, Lana, Jared, Caitlyn and James. Mona was born
to Catherine and Arthur Delaney on February 16, 1917 in Winnipeg, MB. She was one of ten children. She grew up in the St. James area of Winnipeg, attended St. Ann's School and graduated from St. Mary's Academy in 1936. She then worked at the CNR office in Winnipeg for ten years and had many fond memories of her colleagues and travels. Mona was a loving mother and grandmother and was extremely proud of her children and grandchildren. She especially enjoyed spending summers at her cottage at Winnipeg Beach. Mona was a longtime member of St. John Brebeuf Church and of the Catholic Women's League. She was an honorary life member of St. Mary's Academy Alumni and the National Shrine of St. Jude. She was a member of the Rochester, MN Chapter 1645 Women of the Moose. Funeral mass will be celebrated by Msgr. Ward Jamieson at the St. John Brebeuf Roman Catholic Church, 1707 John Brebeuf Pl. in River Heights on Tuesday, September 7 at 11:00 a.m. The service will terminate at the church. HARVEY MOWATT Peacefully, on Thursday September 2, 2004 at the Fisher Personal Care Home, Dad passed away after a courageous battle with diabetes. complications, at the age of 74 years. He will be sadly missed by his wife of 52 years, Dorothy; sons, Ken (Linda), Leslie (Donna), Chris (Wanda); daughters, Valerie (Clifford) Jonasson, Marilyn (Harold) McDonald; 14 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren He will also be will missed by his brother Tom; sisters-in-law, Laura, Allie, Evelyn, Joan and Myrtle; brother-in-law, Roland Lea and many nieces and nephews and his special friend Bev. Harvey was predeceased by his parents, Arthur and Katie; brothers, William, Allan, Peter, Percy, Arthur, Lester and Wallace; sisters, Nellie, Priscilla, Esther and Doreen. Dad was born
on November 15, 1929 in a tent on Matheson Island. He lived there until moving to Pine Dock, where he married Dorothy and resided until his passing. He started fishing and trapping at a very early age and continued for 50 years until his illness prevented him from doing what he loved best. Dad could always be seen every spring sitting in his boat patiently waiting with his dogs for the ice to melt. He was happiest when surrounded by his family and the ringing noise of his grandchildren, in his house. Grandpa took special interest in all his grandchildren. He always wanted to know where everyone was and what they were doing. He never thought twice about doing special tasks that his grandchildren wanted done, like setting a net to get sunfish stones. Harvey was a good provider and we always had fresh fish and game no matter what time of year it was. At dad's request, cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will be held on Monday, September 6th at 2:00 p.m.. in the Pine Dock Community Hall with Pastor Trudy Thorarinson officiating. A private interment will be held at a later date. Harvey's honorary pallbearers are his grandchildren, Christian, Damon, Leslie- John, Kyle, James, Mackenzie, Shelley, Crystal, Kimberly, Jodi, Kendra, Joleen, Hailey and Meghan. The family would like to thank the doctors and staff at the Percy E. Moore Hospital for their care over the past months. As well, to the staff at the Fisher Personal Care Home for their care during his short stay there. SCOTT MICHAEL NAUGLER It is with deep regret that we announce the death of Scott Michael Naugler, on Monday, August 30, 2004 in Winnipeg, at the age of 40 years. He is survived by his partner, Daniel Dutchin and their beloved dog Chelsea; father Harry Naugler; sisters, Kerry Fiks (Randy) - children, Amanda and Nicole, Tanis and Terri; Tina Bramadat (Derek) - children, Janine, Katie and Carson; Mary Anne Goheen (John) - children, Meghan and Ross; and Sharon (Brenda Adelman); Daniel's parents, Mike and Kay Dutchin and sister, Barbara Poitras (Pete), nephew Brian Dutchin (Kelly) and son Bradley; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Scott was predeceased by his mother Trudy. Born in Portage la Prairie on February 12, 1964, Scott moved with his family to PEI in 1966 and then back to Winnipeg in the summer of 1972. Scott graduated High School from John Taylor Collegiate and then attended the University of Manitoba, obtaining both a Bachelor of Music and Bachelor of Education Degrees. He also obtained an Associate Degree in Vocal Performance as well as a Diploma in Business Management. Scott's life was filled with music in every aspect and he was forever modest about his accomplishments. He was involved in numerous choirs both as a vocalist and conductor. Scott also played the piano and violin with great skill. He taught music for many years starting at the Senior High Level, then Middle School, then Elementary where he most enjoyed the enthusiasm of the children. We know that Scott's passion and love for music inspired many young people along the way and his memory lives on in their accomplishments. He loved the outdoors, especially activities around the water, and enjoyed his times spent at the Cottage at Winnipeg Beach. One of his greatest experiences was his Kayak trip on the Yukon River. Scott's funeral service will be held on Monday, September 6 at 7:00 p.m. in St. Mary's Road United Church, 613 St. Mary's Road with Rev. Susan Tough officiating and Rev. Russell Wardell co-officiating. ROBERT (BOBBY) WARREN OWENS Peacefully passed away at his home at the age of 68 years on September 1, 2004. Bobby is survived by his mother Marjorie Manners; and his children, Pat Davies (Mike), Carol Harper (Mike), Glen Owens (Florita); grandchildren, Jennifer, Scott, Emily, Arturo, Mitzi and Rochelle; his brother Dwight Manners; sisters, Sandy Loptson (Vince), Brenda Bresch (Reg) and Shari Manners (Ren); also numerous nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. He was predeceased by his wife Winnifred Owens; his father Barney Owens; step-father Jack Manners; and his brother Ken Owens. Bobby was born
on the farm near Cartwright, MB on June 23, 1936. He moved to Winnipeg with his mother and then to Bissett, MB with his mother and sister Sandy where he enjoyed many happy years growing up. His fondest memories in his later years were of his Wallace Lake outings. He loved the outdoors and participated and watched many sports. He spent many enjoyable hours at the Fort Garry Legion where he won a shuffleboard championship. Bobby was a very hard worker with a strong work ethic. He would never refuse to help anyone out. As in the popular Frank Sinatra song "My Way" so he lived his life. Cremation has taken place and a private family memorial will take place at a later date. GARY GORDON PASTERNAK On August 28, 2004, Gary passed away on the Trans-Canada Highway at the age of 58 years. Gary is survived by his wife Jacki; daughter Leah Pasternak of Winnipeg; stepdaughters Janelle-Marie Emond and Anita Emond both of Winnipeg; son Todd Pasternak of Winnipeg. He also leaves to mourn his special friend Shannon of Swift Current, SK. He was predeceased by his parents Joseph Pasternak in 1970 and Lucille Doris McRae in 1990. Gary was born
and raised in Toronto, ON where he was a musician for a number of years. He moved extensively throughout Canada, eventually settling in Edmonton, AB where he met his future wife Jacki. They moved to Winnipeg, MB where they had two children and raised their family. Gary worked as a Handi-Transit driver for a number of years as well as having his own chimney sweeping company, working seasonally in the Falcon Lake/Kenora areas. He was also a trucker during the winter. His pride and joy was his family by whom he is loved and missed terribly. The family would like to thank Collette Mather and the Britney Smith family. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 11 at 10:00 a.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street with Pastor Kevin Snyder officiating. PATRICIA ANNE PATRICK It is with great sadness the family announces the sudden passing of Patricia on Wednesday, September 1, 2004 at the age of 67. She was predeceased by her parents, Alexander and Anne Patrick. Pat is survived by brothers Don (Flo), Jim (Ruby); sister Jean; as well as nieces and nephews who always brought joy into her life. During her many struggles with chronic health problems, Pat had many helping hands supporting and caring for her. The family thanks them all. Her ambitions were cut short as a result of a traumatic accident at the age of 15. She lost her hearing but not her artistic talent. She spent over 20 years as a resident at the Deaf Centre of Manitoba. At Pat's request, no funeral service will take place. Flowers gratefully declined. BRONIA SHIPPER After a brief illness, Bronia Shipper passed away on Thursday, September 2, at Seven Oaks Hospital. Bronia was born
in Stopnica, Poland on June 7, 1920, the daughter of Moishe and Golda Miller. A survivor of the Holocaust, after the war she married Shulim (Sam) Shipper and settled in New York, later moving to Winnipeg to be near her sisters. Their only child, Golda, died in the 1950s and Shulim passed away in 1976. Bronia also was predeceased by her parents Moishe and Golda Miller, her sisters, Fay Herscovitz, Manya Baumel, Rachel Fridman and Mirka Lokiec, her brothers, Joseph, Jacob, and Leon Miller, brothers-in-law Chaim Fridman, Isser Lokiec and Pinya Baumel, and her grand niece, Rhianna Webster-Baumel. Bronia will be missed by all who knew her and enjoyed her wry sense of humour and playful nature, including her nephews Morris and Syd Baumel and her niece Faye Minuk and their families, the staff at the Sharon Home, her many friends and acquaintances and her devoted nursing home companion Susan Stenson. A graveside service will be held on Sunday, September 5 at 11:00 a.m. at the Shaarey Zedek cemetery.

PHILLIP SZAURA Peacefully, on Thursday, September 2, 2004 at Seven Oaks Hospital, Phillip Szaura, aged 89 years, beloved husband of Natalie. Phillip was born
October 8, 1914 in Vitebsk, Belarus. He arrived in Canada in 1951 and was employed with Noranda Mines in Quebec. He later moved to Winnipeg, working at Borger Construction. Subsequently Phillip worked at Anthes Foundry and then Westroc Industries until his retirement. Besides his beloved wife Natalie whom he met and married in Winnipeg in 1953; Phillip is survived by his son Vladimir, wife Sonia and grandsons, Stephen and Michael; son Nicholas, wife Beverley and grandsons, Kyle and Troy. Phillip had many lifelong interests and hobbies which included fishing, gardening and he was always very active in his church. Funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 7 at Grant Memorial Baptist Church, 877 Wilkes Ave. Viewing will take place one-half hour prior to service. Interment will follow in Brookside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Phillip's memory may be made to Grant Memorial Baptist Church.
