SHIRLEY CHUCKO

SHIRLEY CHUCKO (nee DOERN) 1934 - 2004 On Sunday, August 29, 2004 at the Health Sciences Centre with her children and companion, Tom by her side, Shirley lost her battle with cancer. Mom was born icon November 12, 1934 to Otto and Marion Doern (Doskoch). She grew up in the North End and attended Margaret Scott and Isaac Newton schools. She met Ed Chucko, and they were married in 1954. She worked at Brigdens until Kevin was born icon in 1957. Mom stayed at home to look after children Kevin, Kerry and Marianne. She lost Dad, the love of her life, in 1978. This loss presented challenges that Mom met and overcame without complaint, taking life "One day at a Time". She re-entered the workforce, working at Success Business College. As grandchildren came along, Mom doted on them and looked forward to retiring and spending more time, sharing her love with them. In recent years Mom and her friend and companion, Tom Pickett, took many trips and enjoyed each other and life together. Early this year it was discovered that the cancer she had successfully fought previously, had returned. Although determined to fight again, the cancerous attack was too much to overcome. Predeceased by her parents, husband, and son Kerry, Mom is survived by her friend and companion Tom Pickett; sister Dorothy Chaykowski; sisters-in-law, Eleanor and Vera Chucko; and many nieces and nephews. Her children, Kevin (Debbie), Marianne; and grandchildren, Keith (Krissy), Allyson, Falin and Angus will miss her love very much. The children thank Tom for his unwavering devotion and for ensuring Mom was as comfortable as possible, and Aunty Eleanor and Eileen for their caring. We also acknowledge the efforts of the many physicians involved in Mom's care, especially the nurses and care givers at the Health Sciences Centre, wards GD2 and GH5. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 2, at 10:00 a.m., at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. Interment will follow at Elmwood Cemetery. Flowers are gratefully declined, those wishing may make a donation in Mom's memory to CancerCare Manitoba. Mom, Thank you for blessing us with your Values, Love, Friendship, and Caring Spirit.
