FRIEDA SHARPE
FRIEDA SHARPE (nee JONATSCHICK) On Sunday, August 29, 2004, Frieda Sharpe, aged 81 years, passed away at the River East Personal Care Home. She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Marilyn; son-in-law David Scott; grandchildren, Rob and Katherina; sister Eva Loewen; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Fred Sharpe (Schlamp); parents, Clementine and John Jonatschick; brothers, Jack, John and Norman; sisters, Blanche, Helene Turczak, Ella Laudinsky, Betty Polczer and Lily Cox; and good friend and companion Noble Downey. Mom was born
on March 3, 1923 and was raised in the Elmwood area. She was baptized, confirmed and attended school at the Holy Cross Lutheran Church. At the early age of 13, Mom became a maid to help support her family. During the Second World War, she worked at the CPR station, at which time she also put herself through hairdressing school. She operated a number of salons including Sharpe's Beauty Salon and later built and owned Artistic Beauty Salon. Mom was a member of a number of clubs including the McCalman Seniors' Club, West End Seniors' Centre and the Ladies Auxiliary to the Eagles until rheumatoid arthritis prevented her from attending. She certainly enjoyed playing cards with her sisters, bowling, singing and bus trips to the States. But what we'll all remember most was Mom's love for dancing, even as she got older and could barely walk! In recent years Mom resided at River East Personal Care Home where the staff was wonderful at making her final years comfortable. These great people encouraged Mom to continue to indulge in one of her greatest passions: ice cream! Mom often said that no one should cry for her because she has waited long enough. Well, Mom, your wait is over. May God bless you. A funeral service in memory of Frieda will be held at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, September 1 at Bardal Funeral Home, 843 Sherbrook St. BARDAL FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORIUM 843 Sherbrook Street, 774-7474 Ample Parking Behind Funeral Home Condolences: www.bardal.ca

FRANCISCA van HAAREN
FRANCISCA (FRANCES) van HAAREN (nee MUNSTERS) Frances van Haaren passed away peacefully, after a brief illness, at Victoria General Hospital on August 27, 2004 with her son Peter at her side. She was predeceased by her husband Jan; sons, Frank, John and Henk; and thirteen brothers and sisters. She is survived by her son Peter; grandchildren, David, Ricky, John, Brian, Michelle and Jennifer; great-grandchildren, Stephan and Stephanie; daughter-in-law Valerie; and three sisters-in-law, Mien, Bertha and Marietje and numerous nieces and nephews. "Mom, Oma, Cisca, Tante Cis" was the matriarch of our family and lived up to her role with fervour, class and style. Her life was filled with many challenges, all of which she faced with courage and dignity. Her support to family in time of need was unparalleled. In 1960, as a recent widow, Frances followed her three siblings, Piet, Martien and Dora and emigrated from Holland with her four sons. She travelled extensively with her favourite companion, her sister and best friend, Dora. Their stories have entertained family for years. Tante Cis was famous for her poems and tributes at family occasions. The sound of her hearty laugh lingers as a most cherished memory. She loved to sing the Dutch songs, and with the slightest encouragement from family, had no hesitance taking centre stage. Even though legally blind, her passion for cards never diminished. Frances celebrated her 97th birthday just two weeks ago and as usual, accomplished it with style. It is a mark of her strength and endurance to note that she is the first in the Munsters family in 500 years to make it past the age of 90. Her mainstay was her family, especially her niece Peggy who was devoted to her care. Tante Cis cherished calls and visits from her grandchildren and especially the frequent visits from her only remaining son Peter. "Cisca, thank you for the wonderful example you set for us. Your gifts of love, laughter, and courage will always be remembered." The family would like to thank the staff at Victoria General Hospital 3rd floor, especially Nicole and Paul for their outstanding care. Family and friends are invited to celebrate this very special lady's life on Friday, September 3 at St. Ignatius Church, Stafford and Corydon at 11:00 a.m.. Reception will follow the service at Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home at 1291 McGillivray Blvd. 925-1120. THOMSON Funeral Home - 669 Broadway - 925-1120
