NICK TOKER
NICK TOKER Peacefully, on August 5, 2004, Nick Toker, aged 72, passed away at Vista Park Lodge. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Nellie; his parents Ann and John, and sister Pearl. Left to cherish his memory are his stepchildren, Sylvia Markewich, Florence (Bill) Schumaker and Albert (Leona) Markewich; brothers, Fred (Helen), Mike, Peter (Doris), Bill (Rose) and Edward (Ollie); sisters, Mary (Bill) Wonchak and Lena (Ed) Megaga and many nieces, nephews, grandchildren
and extended family. Nick was born
in Ispas, AB and moved to Winnipeg in 1953. He was employed by Winnipeg Hydro from April 1954 until his retirement in March 1993. He served in various capacities with the Winnipeg Hawkeyes Football Club for over 30 years, and called bingo for the St. Andrews Social Club on Euclid Avenue for numerous years. Nick and Nellie made many trips over the years to Alberta and Kelowna, BC to visit with family. He enjoyed calling bingo, playing cards, watching sports on T.V. and looking after his yard. Nick will always be remembered and missed by all who knew him. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 14 at 10:00 a.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main St. Interment in Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. Reception will follow in the Glen Eden Reception Centre. Donations may be made to a charity of choice. ADA IELEEN TURNER 1924 - 2004 Peacefully, surrounded by the love and support of her family, Ada died at Grand River Hospital, Kitchener, ON, on Monday evening, August 9, 2004. She was 79. Beloved wife of Tom; dearest mother of Elana and her husband Albert Petriew of Winnipeg and David Turner of Waterloo. Ada will be lovingly remembered by her grandchildren, William Petriew of Winnipeg and Kathleen Turner of Calgary. Ada was an active member of the IODE in the various communities where she lived.

Dr. Ronald Keith Watson passed quietly on Friday afternoon, August 6, 2004 surrounded by the love of his family. He will be greatly missed as he continues his journey. GLENROY COURTLAND WHEELER February 12, 1967 - August 7, 2004 Beloved son, father and partner, grandson, brother and uncle died suddenly, August 7, 2004, as a result of a car accident. Glenroy leaves behind his mother, Louise; partner Raquel and daughters, Devina, Nashida and Sadiyah; grandmother Clarisa; brother David (Anna Marie); sisters, Maureen, Marva, Delta; Aunt Jenny; Fay; nieces and nephews; cousins; plus numerous family and friends. He was predeceased by his father Thomas. Glenroy came to Canada in 1972 and grew up in the Maples. He attended Elwick School, Ken Seaforth and Tec. Voc. He was currently employed by Tommy's Welding and will be greatly missed by his coworkers and customers of the company. Glenroy would go out of his way to help friends and family. He would always do for others before he looked after his own interests. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 14 at 11:00 a.m., at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. with Pastor Mike Efe-Zino officiating. Viewing will be held one half hour prior to the service. Interment will take place at a later date. SOEUR BERENICE BEGIN (S. MADELEINE DE PAZZI) Le 9 aout a 20h45, Soeur Berenice Begin rendait sa vie a son Createur a l'age de 88 ans dont 62 de vie religieuse. Apres avoir participe, le 7 aout, a la celebration du Centenaire de la fondation de notre Congregation, les Missionnaires Oblates, elle fit une chute et se fractura une jambe. Son etat de sante compliqua la situation qu'elle ne put vaincre. Son bonheur est maintenant complet. Berenice est nee a St-Isidore de Dorchester, QC, le 4 avril 1916 et fut baptisee le lendemain. Son pere, Joseph Begin et sa mere Exilia Gagne s'etablirent a St-Isidore ou ils furent cultivateurs et commercants. Ils firent a notre monde le cadeau de 16 enfants : 4 garcons et 12 filles dont Berenice qui est la huitieme. En plus de sa Congregation, les Missionnaires Oblates, elle laisse dans le deuil six soeurs, un frere, quatre beaux-freres, une belle-soeur, de nombreux neuveux, nieces et ami.e.s. Berenice entra chez les Missionnaires Oblates le 1er septembre 1939. Durant la majeure partie de sa vie, elle fut preposee a la garde des enfants dans nos pensionnats. Elle etait aimee des enfants a qui elle prodiguait des attentions maternelles. Elle etait de nature pieuse et tres devouee, rayonnant la joie et la paix. Dans tous les cas de mesententes, elle aidait a faire la reconciliation avant le coucher du soleil. Chere Berenice, tu continues d'etre des notres de la-haut. Ta memoire reste gravee dans nos coeurs et nous rappellerons souvent ton souvenir entre nous. Avec toi nous continuons de chanter ce refrain que tu faisais tien: "Nous te louons, Splendeur du Pere, Jesus, Fils de Dieu." Et ce pain que tu aurais eu le gout de petrir encore, petrie-le chez le Pere et nourris-en nous! Adieu! Au revoir. Les prieres auront lieu le samedi 14 aout 2004, a 10 h en la chapelle des Missionnaires Oblates au 601 rue Aulneau. Les funerailles suivront au meme endroit a 10 h 30. SISTER BERENICE BEGIN (S. MADELEINE DE PAZZI) On August 9 2004, at 8:45 p.m., Sister Berenice Begin went back to her Creator at the age of 88 after 62 years of religious life. On August 7, after having participated in the celebration of the hundredth anniversary of the founding of our Congregation, the Missionary Oblate Sisters, she had a fall and fractured a leg. Her poor state of health complicated the situation, which she was unable to overcome. Berenice was born
in St. Isidore, Dorchester, QC on April 4, 1916 and was baptized the following day. Her father, Joseph Begin and her mother, Exilia Gagne earned their living on the farm and as merchants. They gave to our world the wonderful gift of 16 children: 4 boys and 12 girls, of which Berenice was the eighth. Besides her religious Congregation, she leaves to mourn her passing six sisters, one brother, one sister-in-law, four brothers-in-law, numerous nieces and nephews and many friends. Berenice joined the Missionary Oblates on September 1, 1939. During most of her life as an Oblate she was affected to the care of the young children in our boarding schools. She was loved by the children on whom she lavished her maternal attention. By nature she was prayerful and devoted, always radiating peace and joy. In every instance of misunderstanding she would take the first step towards reconciliation before the day's end. Dear Berenice, you are still one of ours from where you are in God's embrace. Your memory is engraved in our hearts. With you, we will continue to sing your favourite prayer to God: "We praise you, Splendour of the Father, Jesus, Son of God." And that bread that you wished you could still knead - Knead it in the Father's House and nurture us with it! Adieu! Au revoir! Prayers will be recited on Saturday, August 14 at 10:00 a.m. in the chapel of the Missionary Oblate Sisters, 601 Aulneau St. Funeral service will follow at 10:30 a.m. at the same address. Fr. GORDON L. BLACKWELL Peacefully with his family at his side, Gordon passed away at the Grace Hospital at the age of 80. He was predeceased by his son Robert Paul Blackwell. WALTER "BUZZ" BYRON Peacefully, on the morning of August 8, 2004, at the St. Boniface Hospital Palliative Unit, surrounded by his loving family, Buzz passed away after a courageous battle with cancer. He leaves to mourn his passing, his beloved wife of 54 years, Thelma; daughters, Roxanne and fiance Barry Anderson, Jennifer, Allison Jakilazek and husband Ed Grassick, as well as his dear grandchildren, Liz Panting, Christopher Panting and Lana Jakilazek. Also surviving are his sisters, Olga Zarubick of Kincardine, ON, Addie Castle and husband Dave of Winnipeg and their families, as well as numerous other relatives. Buzz was predeceased by his parents, John and Eva Bohush and his brothers, Billy and Russell. Born in Winnipeg on January 24, 1926, Buzz grew up on Barber Street in Point Douglas, attending Norquay School and St. John's High School. He enjoyed playing football with his friends and was active at the Sutherland Mission, which was run by the United Church. He loved sports, but also had a great passion for writing and for amateur theatre. Buzz enjoyed a long career with CNCP Telecommunications, retiring in 1986. Aside from his family, Buzz's greatest passion was fishing. He was a great fisherman with several master angler awards and was a member of the Elmwood Legion Wildlife Association for many years. He also enjoyed golf with his buddies and curling with the Fort Rouge Curling Club. Buzz was not one to go unnoticed and made friends wherever he went, whether it was the ladies at the local Safeway, the pharmacists at the drug store or the receptionist at the dental office. He had nicknames for everyone he ever met. Dad had a very unique and creative way with words. As a young man at the University of Manitoba in 1945, he wrote articles for "The Manitoban" under the heading "Bohush Writes". "Grandog" was adored by his grandchildren, who will deeply miss him, his fascinating stories and his wonderful way with words. The family wishes to thank all of the caregivers for their kindness and compassion. We would also like to thank everyone for their love and support during this difficult time. SOPHIA CHERCOE August 15, 1919 - August 10, 2004 Sophia passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning, August 10, 2004 with her longtime companion, John Girling and son Ron at her bedside in the Riverview Health Centre, She finally joined the angels after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Sophia was predeceased her parents, Michael and Anna Hnatiuk; brother John; son-in-law Rene (Joe) Dawson; daughter-in-law Helen Chercoe; ex-husband Nicholas; as well as sisters, Ollie Butttsman and Kay Storozuk; and brother-in-law Henry Colmer. Left to mourn and cherish her memory is John Girling; sons, Ron (friend Enid Chandler) and Terry (Lyn) Chercoe; daughters, Pat Dawson and Donna (Frank) Hlady; John's daughter Gail (Ted) Tomyn; brother Maurice (Lena) Hnatuik and sister Vera Colmer; brother-in-law John Storozuk; grandchildren, Robert Chercoe (Nicole Deschenes), Howard (Linda) Chercoe, Colleen (Matthew) Brown, Kevin (Brenda) Dawson, Cameron (Marion) Dawson, Jason, Crystal and Jordan Chercoe, Nicole (Vince) Baker and Richard (Natalie) Hlady. Also 10 great-grandchildren all of whom she loved and was extremely proud, along with numerous nieces and nephews. Mom was a generous, kind hearted person who loved to cook and bake and was always making various dishes for her children and friends. At mid-life, Mom decided to pursue a career in nursing and was a compassionate and caring LPN at Misericordia Hospital for many years, retiring in 1985. Nursing was her passion and she was most dedicated to her profession. Following retirement, she and John spent happy times doing numerous different activities, from bowling to gambling in Reno and on horse races, which she really enjoyed. Mom and John spent years wintering in Maglia, CA where they made many dear friends who attempted to lift her spirits with their phone calls, letters and cards. Mom loved picking blueberries, strawberries, saskatoons and chokecherries which she was able to do until her 83rd year. The fruit was turned into delicious jams, jellies and pies which she generously shared with family, friends and neighbours. The family wishes to thank Palliative Care nurse Chris Carlyle for her extra efforts to ensure Mom's comfort before she was hospitalized. We would also like to thank the staff at Riverview 3E, especially Sean, Tony and Andrea along with the nurse's aids who were so gentle and kind to her in her last days. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 14 at 2:30 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. with Rev. Fr. Walter Klimchuk, a longtime friend officiating. ANTONIUS (TOM) CAROLUS DOOMERNIK It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of (Tom) Antonius Carolus Doomernik at the age of 83 years on August 11, 2004 at Concordia Hospital. He will be lovingly remembered and missed by his wife Jacoba; his son Walter and his wife Johanna; grandchildren, Sabrina, Leanna, Ton, Yvette; and great-grandchildren in Holland from where he came to Canada in 1953. Also his brothers, Martin and Guus Doomernik. His biggest enjoyment was fishing and hunting, summers at the lake and working around the house. Many thanks to Dr. R. Martens and the doctors and staff at ICU in Concordia Hospital for their care and support. A funeral service will take place on Tuesday, August 17 at 10:00 a.m. at Green Acres Funeral Home, Hwy. CHARLES DUBOIS Charles Dubois was born
on June 12, 1912 at Wampum, MB and passed away August 11, 2004 at Ste. Anne Hospital after a battle with cancer. He was predeceased by his sisters, Mary, Agnes, Cordilia and Dorothy; brothers, Frank, Delphis, Fred, and Chalmer. He leaves behind his caring cousin Irene Dumont; and many nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. Charlie loved to ski, hunt, play cards and he always took great pride in having the nicest garden with many flowers. He was a great violin and accordion player. He worked in the bush for many years. Charlie also took care of the local parks in the area, and was the only barber around. People would come from as far as Piney for a haircut. Charlie will always be remembered as a very personal honest man. Pallbearer are: Dawson Blacquiere, Roger Chenier, George Garrand, Jim Patterson, Raymond Prevost, Jerry Semko. Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 14 with viewing at 10:00 a.m. followed by Mass at 10:30 a.m. at Notre Dame de l'Assomption Roman Catholic Church, South Junction, MB. ANNE EWAN-SCOULAR It is with deep sorrow we announce the death of my beloved wife, Anne, on July 30, 2004, after a courageous battle with cancer at the age of 79. Her memory will be cherished by her husband Alvin, and his family, who loved her dearly; her son Chris (Gayle) and children, Korbin and Demara; daughter Charlynne (Michael) Meyers and children, Kaylen and Christa; sister Caroline (Jim) Kilpatrick and family; brother-in-law Johnny Bourbonnais, Maureen Bourbonnais; dear friends, Ev and Della Mulder, Cathy French, Norma Kaisaris; cousins, Rae (Frank) Graves (Kingston, ON) and family, June Figsby and family; plus many others too numerous to mention whose lives she touched. She was predeceased by her parents, Herb and Ann Stuart; her first husband William Ewan, and her second son Bradley Ewan. Anne was born
in East Kildonan and spent most of her life in that area, moving in later years to Fort Garry. Anne was a gifted musician, who starred on the stage of the Beacon Theatre at a very early age, playing her accordion. She played for years in the band at Grand Beach and started her music teaching career giving accordion lessons. Her love of music continued her entire life, as she later taught organ to many students over the years, conducted musical competitions, instilling her love of music into all lucky enough to have her as their teacher. Music was her life, and she continued to play as long as she could. She always loved the water and enjoyed time spent at her cottage with her family. After the deaths of her first husband and her son, she involved herself with her bridge club, thanks to wonderful neighbour Bertie Beckle. She became a world traveller after her second marriage, as she and Al travelled extensively which she loved. Every year was a new adventure for her. She was determined that cancer was not going to beat her and fought right to the end, at home, with loving care from Al and wonderful homemakers and nurses. Cremation has taken place, and a private service for immediate family only was held.
