Verne 1925 - 2004 Memorial Gathering: Friends and associates of the late Verne Lyons are invited to join his family for a Memorial Gathering which will be held April 7, 2004 at 3:30 p.m. at the Calgary Golf & Country Club. The Memorial Celebration to honour Verne's life will begin at 3:30 p.m. It will be followed by an informal reception. Verne Lyons passed away February 29, 2004 in his 79th year at the Rockyview Hospital in Calgary following a long struggle with Parkinson's disease. McFAUL - Edna (nee Foers) February 14, 1914 - April 2, 2004 Edna McFaul, a native Calgarian, passed away peacefully at the Foothills Hospital on Friday, April 2, 2004 at the age of 90 years. She was predeceased by her loving husband Robert, and her sister Marion. Fondly remembering her are daughters, Mary Ellen Ray (Gordon) of Abbotsford, B.C., Roberta Warners (Erik) of Nanaimo, B.C.; sons, Bruce and John; grandchildren, Jeffrey Warners (Krista), Julia Steel (Trevor); and great-grandson, Blake Steel. Before her marriage in 1944, Edna worked as a housekeeper and contributed to the war effort by working at the No. 10 Resupply Depot for the RCAF. For the remaining years, she devoted herself to caring for her family and home. Edna loved reading and was an accomplished poet. She was a charter member of the Women's Order of The Moose. She also was a long time member of the Confederation Park Senior Citizens Centre where she especially enjoyed the Tea and Conversation afternoons. The family would like to thank Linda for her special care and friendship to our Mother. Thanks are also given to all those who provided care and kindness to Edna at her home, at Southwood Care Centre, the Bethany Care Society (Calgary), and the Foothills Hospital, in particular, Reverend G. Jackson, Dr. Curry and staff in Unit 101. FERGUSON - Lauretta Frances Lauretta Frances, age 87 years, of Calgary and formerly of Stavely, passed away on Monday, June 21, 2004 in Calgary. Lauretta was the widow of the late Kenneth Gordon Ferguson, and the beloved mother and mother-in-law of Jo Anne and Blake Green of Victoria, BC and Pat and Jim Beattie of Calgary. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Loree, Scott, Ryan, Kari and Teri-Lynn; and six great-grandchildren. Lauretta was predeceased by her parents James and Laura O'Keefe; husband Ken on October 25, 1970; one sister, five brothers and an infant daughter Maureen. GORDON - Georgina Mae Georgina Mae Gordon, beloved wife of John Gordon of Calgary, passed away peacefully at home on June 21, 2004, at the age of 80 years. She is the loving mother of Doreen (David) Biggs and Bill (Sharon) Gordon; beloved grandmother to Casey and Kelly; and she will be dearly missed by her sister-in-law Elsie Pasolli as well as numerous other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her parents and her sisters, Lillian, Nora and Doreen. HALL - Rosalie Genevieve 1920 - 2004 It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our mother Rosalie on June 20, 2004 after a valiant struggle with lung cancer. Rosalie was born in Othon, SK, January 7, 1920 and raised in Weyburn, SK with her eleven brothers and sisters. She married Robert Hall and moved to Calgary, AB in 1956. In 1969 she joined St. John's Ambulance and was with the organization until she retired in 1987 having devoted over three thousand hours in volunteer service. Rosalie was awarded the title of Serving Sister in 1986 from the Governor General and Officer Sister in 1993. She was known for her caring and kindness towards others, especially the down and out. A woman of great warmth and humour, Rosalie loved her family, home and garden. She is survived by her daughters, Erna (Gerry) Murray, Patricia (Maury) Lang and Roberta (Frank) Van der Vliet; her sons, James (Susan) Hall and Christopher (Elizabeth) Hall; ten grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and one-great-great-grandson. She was predeceased by her husband Robert, her daughter Sylvia and her son Bruce. The family would like to thank the caring doctors, nurses and support staff of Unit 43 at the Peter Lougheed Centre and a special thank you to Doctor Carolyn Atkinson for her support during this difficult time. HASSEL - Blaine Egon 1981 - 2004 Blaine Egon Hassel, life partner of Tiffany Goodall of Calgary, passed away suddenly on Monday, June 21, 2004 at the age of 22 years. A native Calgarian, Blaine resided here all of his life. He graduated from James Fowler High School and recently graduated from Mount Royal College in Commercial Aviation. Blaine is survived by his mother Connie Hassel (Ken Reid); his father Egon Hassel, both of Calgary; siblings, Trevor Hassel, Ryan Hassel, and Tammy (Mac) MacPherson, all of Calgary, Gordie Fry of Fox Creek; grandparents Don Evernden of Calgary and Eleanor Evernden of Medicine Hat; and by numerous other relatives. Blaine was predeceased by his stepmother Sandy Hassel on May 23, 2004. HILL - J. Michael K. 1940 - 2004 Mike Hill, beloved husband of Rachel Hill of Calgary, passed away at the Foothills Medical Centre on Sunday, June 20, 2004 at the age of 64 years. Mike retired in 1995 after thirty-seven years with CIBC. He worked in many communities throughout Alberta and the North West Territories. He was a dedicated Member of Lions Clubs International for twenty years, both at the Club and District levels. He worked tirelessly for the betterment of mankind. Besides his loving wife Rachel, Mike is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Monique and Richard Hinse of Calgary; two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Wendy Joy of Edmonton, and Kevin and Melanie of Taber; and six grandchildren, Emily, Claire, Aidan, Andrew, Christian, and Joshua. JOHNSTON-PEDDEN - Genevieve Margaret She trips through the trees to where the mountains meet the sky. From there she still touches us all. She is remembered by her husband Allan; mother Doris; father Homer; children, Allison and John; siblings, James, Marion (Eric) and Caroline; and her dogs, Cicely, Mabel, George and Daisy; and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews, family and friends. Born in Calgary May 5, 1958, Genevieve held a Bachelor Degree in Archaeology and a graduate degree from the University of Sheffield in England, returning to work in Senior Administration at the University of Calgary. Dog lover, hiker, outdoor enthusiast, traveler, studied both at home and abroad, embracing every bit life had to offer. She started the next steps of her journey June 21, 2004 passing quietly at home amongst family and friends. KLUKAS - Gerda 1931 - 2004 Gerda Klukas passed away suddenly at Foothills Hospital, Sunday, June 20, 2004. Lovingly remembered by her three sons, Harry (Kristine), Ralph (Mary) and George (Wendy); her grandchildren, Matthew, Katherine, Chelsea, Michael, Julie, Jodi, and Jennifer; sisters, Nellie (Herman) and Lily (Horst). Her recent most enjoyable and memorable moments were spending time with and doing things for her grandchildren who truly adored her.
