MARY ISABEL FERLEY It is with sadness that we tell you that Mary passed away on July 12, 2004. Born April 8, 1915, Mary was the eldest child of Susan (nee Murphy) and Michael McAnulty. She is survived by her husband Boris Ferley to whom she was happily married for 62 years. She is also survived by daughter Susan (London, ON), son Paul (Toronto, ON), sister Eileen Bleakley (Winnipeg, MB) and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents and brothers, R. Emmett and Lawrence (Mac) McAnulty. The family extends their thanks and appreciation for the loving care provided by Cindy St. Hilaire and the nurses and staff at both Meadowood Manor and Misericordia Health Centre. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 15 at Christ the King Roman Catholic Parish, 847 St. Mary's Rd. Interment will be held at Green Acres Memorial Gardens, Hwy. No. 1 East at Navin Road. A reception will follow the interment in the Green Acres Funeral Home Heritage Room. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice. CLINTON FRANCIS
CLINTON FREDERICK "BUD" FRANCIS C.D. Peacefully on July 9, 2004 at the Victoria Hospital, with his family by his side, Bud passed away at the age of 70. Dad was predeceased by his parents John and Charlotte. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years Violet; his three children, daughter Cheryl (Claude), son Darrell of Edmonton, and son Todd (Michelle); his four grandchildren
, Matthew, Alyssa, Clinton and Leah; his brother Ed (Anne Marie) and sister Ethel Mae (Walter). Dad was employed with MTS for 39 years, starting as a line man and retiring from the O.P. Engineering Dept. in 1991. At MTS he made many friends with which he associated and travelled with outside of work. Mom and Dad loved to travel and spent many happy times in Barbados, Hawaii and Florida during the winter months. At a young age, Dad joined the Army Cadets and progressed onto the Canadian Militia, retiring with the rank of Captain in 1984 with 17th Service Battalion. Many hours were spent by Dad in his woodworking shop where he excelled at Intarsia, as well as many creative and practical wood projects. Dad will be remembered for his sense of humour and quick wit, and always willing to give a helping hand to anyone in need. Our family would like to thank the hospital staff on the 4th floor who all helped during this difficult time. A special family thank you to James Tomlinson for always being there. Cremation has taken place and a private family gathering will be held.

FRANK FROESE On July 12, 2004, Frank Froese of Steinbach passed away at Bethesda Hospital at the age of 62. He leaves to mourn his wife Helga; their children, Richard and Kimberley, Carl and Brandee, Alison and Jeffery; and grand-children, Jacquelyn, Zoey, Jeremy and Heaven Dawn. He is also survived by his brothers, Ted and Irene, Eric and Anne, John and Judith, Peter and Gerda, Joe and Margaret; and by sisters, Frances Derksen, Marion and Abe Banman, Hertha and Wilmer Tessman and their families. He was predeceased by his parents, Franz and Elisabeth Froese; and brother-in-law Abram Derksen. Frank was employed with Derksen Printers in Steinbach for 42 years. Viewing will be held at Birchwood Funeral Chapel in Steinbach on Friday, July 16, from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held at Steinbach Mennonite Church, 345 Loewen Blvd., on Saturday, July 17 at 2:00 p.m. with viewing one hour prior. GEORGE GADSBY George Gadsby, beloved father of Michele and Christopher, passed away peacefully at the Bethany Care Centre, at the age of 79 years. George was born
in Derbyshire, England on September 11, 1924, where he spent his childhood in a farming community. He served in the British Army during the Second World War, married Margaret (nee Sidaway) in 1946 and together they immigrated to Winnipeg, MB in 1957. In 1988, George moved to Duncan, BC where he spent many happy years as an active member of the British Canadian Club. He moved to Calgary in December, 2001 to be closer to his family. George will be dearly missed by his daughter Michele, son Christopher, daughter-in-law Michelle and grandchildren, Matthew and Evan. He is survived by his sisters, Hilda Howl and Phyllis Price, both residing in England. George was predeceased by his wife Margaret, in 1988 and his brother Bernard, in 2003. George was a well respected businessman, who worked as a senior member of the management team at Pritchard Engineering in Winnipeg for over 20 years. He was an avid gardener who could work miracles in even the most challenging climates. George also enjoyed working around the house, doing small repairs, as well as spending time with family and friends. The family would like to express thanks and appreciation to the kind and thoughtful staff of the Foothills Hospital and the Bethany Care Centre. A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 16 at 2:30 p.m. at Parkdale United Church, 2919 - 8 Ave. N.W. MICHAEL GERY (GERIJ) It is with deep sorrow that we are announcing the passing of Michael Gery on Sunday, July 11, 2004. Michael was born
on December 10, 1921 in the city of Drohobych, Ukraine. Besides his beloved wife Luba, Michael is survived by two sisters, Rosalie and Anna, nieces and nephews in Ukraine and two nephews in Germany. He was predeceased by his parents in Ukraine, his son Bohdan and brother Johan in Germany. Due to the early death of his parents, Michael was left as an orphan. His early life was a very difficult struggle. During the Second World War, Michael was compelled to work in Germany. While in Germany, Michael met and married his future wife Luba. After the war they moved to England. In 1951 Michael and Luba moved to Winnipeg, Canada. Michael was employed with the City of Winnipeg for 33 years, initially as a labourer and later as a foreman in charge of keeping the streets clean and well repaired. Michael was a member of Sts. Vladimir and Olga Cathedral and Ukrainian Cultural and Educational Centre (Oseredok). He was very active in a number of sport activities such as golf, curling and soccer and won numerous awards and trophies in golf and curling. Very special thanks are conveyed to Dr. B. A. Gorski, their family doctor, for his many years of excellent medical service. Thanks and appreciation are also expressed to the compassionate and loving friends of the family over the many years and especially at this difficult time. Prayers will be sung at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 14 at Sts. Vladimir and Olga Cathedral, 115 McGregor St. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, July 15 also at the cathedral, with Rev. M. JOHN HAWRYSZKO It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John Hawryszko at the Arborg Hospital on July 10, 2004. John was born
February 2, 1918 in Ledwyn, MB on the Hawryszko homestead where he farmed and lived until he became ill. John was a very inventive person who worked hard all his life. He cut and hauled pulpwood, was a mechanic and carpenter. He was proud of his heritage and his well kept yard. John was predeceased by his wife Rose on April 7, 1998; his parents, Wazyl and Maria Hawryszko; his nephew Steve Sutyla; his niece Frances Sutyla; and his brothers-in-law, Frank Sutyla and Ben Holyk. John is survived by his sisters, Nellie Sutyla and Anne Holyk of Arborg; his nieces, Mary Willis (Bob), Linda Bardarson (Larry Bishop) and nephews, Leo Sutyla (Maryann), Paul Holyk (Shirley), Bennie Holyk (Loris) and their families; nephew Harry Bibb (Kitty). The family wishes to extend their appreciation to Dorothy, Lawrence and Greg Charney for their support and kindness before and during his illness. They also wish to extend their appreciation to the staff at the Arborg Hospital for their kindness and care during his hospital stay. JEFFREY DAVID HILL April 14, 1981 - July 10, 2004 It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Jeff Hill on Saturday, July 10, 2004 at the age of 23 years. REV. ROBERT LEROY HOOVER Suddenly on July 12, 2004 at St. Boniface Hospital, Rev. Robert Leroy Hoover, husband of Katherine, went into the presence of the Lord at the age of 84. Born in Winnipeg, November 6, 1919, he took his early schooling in Detroit, MI and Winnipeg. He served overseas for three years in the Royal Canadian Air Force. Upon his return, he then attended Western Bible College (Winnipeg), graduating in 1947 and receiving his ordination with the P.A.O.C., actively in service until his passing. He pastored in Manitou, MB and in the surrounding area for 13 years and was the founding pastor of Sherwood Assembly of God in Winnipeg, MB where he remained for 13 years. In 1976, he and Katherine launched out into full time Evangelism which took them to Taiwan, Japan, Uruguay, Africa, Dominican Republic, Scotland, England, U.S., Canada and largely to India where several orphanages and widows residences were established. He leaves to cherish in his memory, wife of 55 years Katherine. Also cherishing his memory are Lynn (Haworth-Holbrow), Diane (Kees Bastiaans), Linda (Arnie Gertz), Elaine (Bruce Madison), Judy (Mike Dorken), Sandra (Marc Thibault), Grace-Marie (Levi Meekis), 17 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, a sister Dorothy McCrae from Penticton, BC, and numerous nieces, nephews and friends from around the world. He was predeceased by his first wife Gertrude, parents and eight brothers. Respectfully remembered as "Hoover the Mover". ROBERT ARTHUR (BERT) HUTTON February 21, 1911 - June 21, 2004 Longtime resident of The Pas, Bert Hutton, was born
Tuesday, February 21, 1911, at Ile A La Crosse, SK to William and Honora Hutton. Bert received his high school education at The Pas, and furthered his education at the University of Winnipeg. Through the years, Bert resided at Ile A La Crosse, SK, Carrot River, SK, Red Earth, SK, and The Pas, MB. Bert was united in marriage to Claire Charbonneau at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Cathedral, The Pas, July 27, 1939, and through this union were born
three children, Claude, Roberta, and Tanis. After Claire's death, Bert married Lorrie Newstead, (nee Guymer), March 6, 1976 at The Pas. Bert passed away peacefully, Monday, June 21, 2004, at St. Paul's Personal Care Home, The Pas, at the age of 93 years. Bert is survived by his wife, Lorrie; children, Claude (Judith) Hutton, Roberta (Robert) Ruda, and Tanis (Craig) Asselstine; seven grandchildren, David Hutton, Janis (Remi) Cousyn, Luke (Samantha) Hutton, Trevor (Lisa Fladager), Michael Ruda, Jeffrey Asselstine, Terence Asselstine; two great-grandchildren, Gabrielle and Camille Cousyn; stepchildren, Barb (Dave) Birtles, Betty (Roy) Lycar, Nancy (Elias) Shewchuk; ten stepgrandchildren, Tannis Birtles, Shawnelle (Lowell) Davis, Cherilyn Birtles, Nathan Birtles, Rob Lycar, Ryan Lycar, Melanie (Rob) Wiseman; Joel (Amy) Shewchuk, Tim (Julie) Shewchuk, Debbie Shewchuk; six stepgreat-grandchildren, Caleb Lycar, Ethan and Eli Shewchuk, Jordan Wiseman, Garret and Amber Davis; and other relatives. Memories of the heart were given through music by Bert's daughter, Tanis Asselstine and Bert's grandson, David Hutton. David played the violin; Bert's son, Claude Hutton; and friend of the family, Avery Ascher; Scripture: stepson-in-law, Elias Shewchuk; Gifts, Bert's granddaughter, Janis (Remi) Cousyn and great-granddaughters, Gabrielle and Camille Cousyn; Guest Book, grandson, Michael Ruda. Following the interment prayers at Riverside Catholic Cemetery, everyone was invited to a reception at the Guy Hall, The Pas. EVA KONIUCK (nee ANTOCHIW) May 30, 1909 - July 11, 2004 Eva Koniuck, at the age of 95, passed away peacefully on July 11, 2004 at the Tuxedo Villa Nursing Home in the city of Winnipeg, MB. Eva was born
in Kuchubinchi in the Ukraine. She immigrated to Canada at the age of 12 with her sister Nettie (Nastya) Harwyst. Eva married Michael Koniuck in 1929. Her husband predeceased her by 24 years. Mike was a B&B Foreman for the C.N.R. and worked along side his two brothers Steve and Andrew. Albert and (Helen), Rudy and (Cecily), mourn the death of their beloved mother along with the rest of the extended family. Eva expressed great joy in witnessing the presence of her seven grandchildren (Margaret, Michael, Robert, Janet, Paul, Tanis and Randy) and 14 great-grandchildren. Eva lived most of her life in Winnipeg except for a few years in Victoria, BC. Returning to Winnipeg, Eva and Mike spent their last days in Winnipeg. Eva mourned the passing of her sister Nettie at the age of 93 and considered Natstya her proxy mother. Eva rests peacefully because of her expressed faith in Jesus Christ. CLIFFORD KOWALSKY
CLIFFORD KOWALSKY Peacefully, on July 9, 2004, Clifford Kowalsky, loving husband and father. Survived by Rosemary, his precious wife of 65 years, brother Bernie, son Clifford (Julia, Stephen, Christopher, Rachel, Shara, Megan), daughter Elaine ( Elton), son Barry (Kathryn, Brendan, Robyn Katelyn) son Kenneth (Linda, Kenneth Jr., Marie); predeceased by his parents, Maryan and Theophelia; brothers, Thomas and James; sisters, Elsie, Stella and Olga. A remarkably talented man, Cliff was born
in Winnipeg in 1915, and grew up in Point Douglas. He attended Norquay and Tec Voc schools. A gifted athlete, he founded the Royal Dukes Athletic Club and earned his Royal Life Saving Society Bronze Medallion at the age of 17. He met Rosemary in 1939. They were married at the Stella Mission in Winnipeg by Dr. Schaefer on December 23, 1939. Cliff answered his country's call to war in September 1939, serving in the Royal Canadian Engineers, 12th Field Company. Cliff served in England, Sicily, Italy, France and Holland. Twice mentioned in dispatches, Cliff was wounded in battle. He saw his wife only once during the war, in 1945 he managed to obtain and 10 day furlough in London, where Rosemary served in the Canadian Women's Army Corps. Cliff remained in the reserves after the war, and he was invited to attend the Coronation of Elizabeth II, where he was decorated by the Queen for his courage in battle. After the war, Cliff and Rosemary settled at 41 Bowhill Lane in Charleswood, here they built their home and raised their children. A pioneer in the community, Cliff was involved with the Legion, the Church Choir, Scouts, the Charleswood Youth Drop In Centre, helping out friends and lending a hand. He cheerfully volunteered for any task no matter how arduous. His warm and engaging personality touched everyone who knew him. Throughout his life, Cliff continued his athletic endeavours. A champion runner, he won the over 65 half marathon at the age of 75. He mastered the fine art of bathtub racing, winning every race he entered. He was a life member of the lawn bowling society, winning the Manitoba Championship. As well, he was an avid darts player at the Legion, where he won many trophies. Cliff loved acting, and appeared in many roles at church functions. He played monsters, clowns and comic strip characters, but his most endearing role was that of Harry Higgins, the scheming English dandy, in a church musical. He loved to dress up for his children's parties, and spent many happy hours entertaining the kids. A master story writer and teller, Cliff participated in the school reading program, reading his original works to the school children. Cliff worked in construction for 45 years in Winnipeg starting with Commonwealth Construction in the early 1930s. He was respected and admired by his colleagues for his technical knowledge and his wonderful people skills. Cliff loved to go fishing at Lac Du Bonnet at his cottage, where he spent many happy hours going after "The Big One". The memories of the time at the lake spent with him will shine within all of us for the rest of our lives. A master builder, Cliff created a wonderful home for his family. He spent many hours doing woodwork, building additions, gardening in his greenhouse and "fixing up the place". His flowers were amazing to see. Cliff was a devoted husband, loving father, faithful servant of God, helpful neighbour, brave soldier, athlete, entertainer, community builder, and friend to all. To know him was an honour and a pleasure. He will be sadly missed, but never forgotten. A celebration of Cliff's life will be held at the church he helped build, Charleswood United Church, on July 17 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Joanne Kury officiating. VIVIAN LERNOUT (nee WARREN) August 26, 1930 - July 11, 2004 It is with tears of sadness and broken hearts we announce the passing of Vivian Lernout, (beloved wife of the late Joseph Lernout, 1983). Mom passed away peacefully with her family by her side on July 11, 2004 at the Misericordia Health Centre. Left to cherish her memory is her son Dennis; daughter Karen Hekle and husband Grant; son David and wife Lynn; daughter Wendy Van Walleghem and husband Greg; her precious grandchildren, Julia, Ashley, Alan, Kevin, Kyle, Daniel, Kristopher, Paul, Cameron, and Thomas; and her mother Dagny Elizabeth Warren. Her father Fredrick Warren and her only brother Wallace predeceased her. Mom was born
in Winnipeg on August 26, 1930. Mom had many jobs throughout her life, such as Eatons, the family businesses Richard's Bakery and Warren's Corner, and the Winnipeg Clinic. Mom had a love for children and showed it by babysitting at the Wildwood and the Pembina Curling Club. Mom met Dad while working at Eatons and they married on June 16, 1951. Mom and Dad had 32 wonderful years together; they lived and raised their family in Fort Garry where they developed many wonderful friendships. Mom loved playing cards and bingo, shopping, camping and most of all spending time with her family. Mom loved having tea and talking for hours to family and friends. Mom loved watching her grandchildren grow and was proud of their accomplishments. Mom was very supportive in their various activities. Mom had a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer, she never complained or let it get her down. Even in her most trying times Mom's concern was for her family. Her family is very proud of her and will miss her dearly. WE LOVE YOU MOM. The family would like to acknowledge the excellent care received on the 2nd floor Cornish wing during her last week at the Misericordia, where they made Mom and the family comfortable during that period. A celebration of life and interment will take place at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 15, at Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home and Cemetery, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. with reception to follow.
