Jane Patton

JANE MARGARET PATTON Our beloved Auntie Margie passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 15 at the Grace General Hospital, following a short battle with cancer. Born on January 9, 1920 at Dunrea, MB, Margie was the daughter of Adam and Ethel Dunlop. In 1942, she graduated from the Misericordia General Hospital School of Nursing and on August 15 of that same year, married Alvin Patton. During her nursing career she worked for several doctors in Winnipeg, most of those years being at the Manitoba Clinic. Margie lived her life with grace, dignity and humour. She had a kind word and a warm smile for all who knew her, and took a committed and caring interest in the lives of her nieces and nephews and their families. She was always open to new experiences and her zest for life and keen mind made her a joy to be with. She will be lovingly remembered by nephews, Ed (Alice) Drader and Allan (Carole) Drader; nieces, Ethel Hunter, Gladys (Gordon) Mason and Lynne (Lynn) Wright; great-nephews and nieces, Carey (Leanne) Drader, Brian, Todd and Michael Drader, Shaunda Whitmore, Patsy (Craig) Wells, Rodney Drader, DeeDee (Sid) Drake, Kevin Mason, Darryl (Sherri) Mason and Cameron (Crystal) Mason, Ross Hunter and their families. She was predeceased by her husband Alvin; sisters, Laura Drader and Edith Robinson; and niece Pat Heward. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held Friday, June 20, at 12:30 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. The family would like to thank the staff on Floor 3 and Floor 4 of the Grace Hospital for their thoughtful care and kindness. Tony Peiluck

TONY PEILUCK Tony passed away peacefully at the Johnson Memorial Hospital in Gimli on Saturday, June 14, 2003 after a valiant struggle against both cancer and respiratory problems. He left this world surrounded by the love of his family and was taken into the loving arms of our Saviour. Tony was born icon on the family farm on September 3, 1933. Following his schooling he worked for both the federal and provincial governments at the airbase as well as farming. He enjoyed his volunteer time at the heritage renovation of the Gimli Public School 1915 (now the municipal offices) and being part of the "group of nine". He also enjoyed his time with the local Kiwanis club. Tony married May (nee Kardal) on March 27, 1971. He built his new home right next to his birthplace. The happy couple were blessed with two children, Peter and his wife Kara and their two children, Aurora and Stefan; Margrose and her husband Shawn Madak. He also leaves his brother John (Ann) and niece Joanie Smalley; his sister Mary (Wayne Coppin) and niece Megan and Tristan; as well as many other relatives. He was predeceased by his parents, Peter and Rosalia; brother Joey; and his nephew David Peiluck. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, June 18 at 2:00 p.m. in the Gimli Lutheran Church, 50 Third Ave. with Pastor George Johnson officiating. The eulogy dedicated to Tony is scripted by his good friend Morris Kustiak. Interment of ashes will follow in the St. Michael's Cemetery (North Foley on Willow Creek Road). Honorary pallbearers will be Don Benedictson, Glenn Rudney, Oli Narfason, Anton Biluk, Ron Peiluck and Victor Peiluck. The family would like to offer many thanks to Dr. C.N. Chapnick, Brenda Krulicki, Shannon Pyziak, our home care nurses and care givers as well as the staff at Johnson Memorial Hospital. Flowers are gratefully declined and donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, Room 1160-675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9. Rest in peace dear husband, father and Gido. JEAN POLLOK August 7, 1920 - June 13, 2003 It is with great sorrow that the family announces the passing of Jean Pollok on June 13, 2003. She was survived her son Garry (Veronica); granddaughters, Shelley (Colin) Deans, Sheri (Andrew); great-grandchildren, Jordan and Callum; brother Henry (Bertha) and sister Sophie (John) and many nieces and nephews. Jean was predeceased by husband Fred Pollok; daughter Sharon; parents Anastasia and Wasyl. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, June 19 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Alphonsus Roman Catholic Church, Brazier and Munroe with Brother Jorge Villegas O.F.M. Cap. officiating. DOROTHY ROSE RAPLEY April 6, 1920 - June 14, 2003 Sadly on June 14, 2003, at the age of 83 years, Dorothy Rose Rapley passed away. Dorothy will be deeply missed by her husband James; daughters, Judy (Norm), Barbara (Len); and four grandchildren. Mom grew up on Harcourt Street and lived all her life in Winnipeg. She enjoyed playing her piano, watching her birds, and most of all as one of Jehovah's Witnesses, sharing her hope of "living forever on a paradise earth." PS 37:11;29. Many thanks to the staff at the Charleswood Care Centre who did their best to keep Mom comfortable. A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 20, at 7:00 p.m. in the Kingdom Hall at 1060 Wolever Ave. Flowers gratefully declined. Katherine Romaniw

KATHERINE ROMANIW Peacefully, Katherine Romaniw passed away at the Deer Lodge Centre on Sunday, June 15, 2003. She was born icon in the County of Lwow, Ukraine on September 26, 1929. She left the Ukraine with the help of her sister, Stefania, and immigrated to Canada. Soon after arriving in Canada, she met and married Harry Romaniw and had two sons, Walter and Roman. She then started a new life on her own as a seamstress working for several sewing factories. She met Stanley Abramowicz and they had a daughter Barbara. Katherine was loved and will sadly be missed by her daughter Barbara; sons, Walter and Roman (Sharon) and granddaughters, Danika, Tesia and Celina. She was predeceased by mother Anna (Liwacz); father Michael Chomiszak and sister Stefania Feszczak. Special thanks to Holy Family staff on the St. John's ward for their wonderful care and compassion during her residence at Holy Family. We were comforted knowing that she was so lovingly taken care of at Holy Family. Thanks also to the staff at Deer Lodge for making her last moments comfortable. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 19 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Ghost Church, 341 Selkirk Ave. Interment will follow at Holy Ghost Cemetery. Freda Shipper

FREDA SHIPPER Freda Marie Shipper of 128 Killoran Cres., Stratford, ON., passed away suddenly at her home on Saturday, June 14, 2003 in her 90th year. Born in Lac du Bonnet, MB., she was the daughter of the late Carl and Beret (Larson) Gustafson. Freda loved to garden. She also enjoyed many years of curling at the Rossmere Curling Club in Winnipeg and spending time at the family cottage at Beaver Creek. In August 1995, Freda and her husband Henry moved to Stratford. Beloved wife of the late Henry Shipper, whom she married in Winnipeg on September 24, 1938. Dear mother of Carol and husband Alan Oakes of Stratford and Gail and husband Gary Mullin of St. George, New Brunswick. Dear grandmother of Amber and Cody Oakes, Mike Mullin and Carl Mullin and wife Denise. Also surviving are several great-grandchildren; one sister and one brother. She was predeceased by five brothers and sisters. In keeping with Freda's wishes, funeral arrangements will be private. ANNA TRACZ (nee SOPEL) It is with deep sadness and sorrow that we announce the passing our dear wife, mother, grandmother, and our best friend, Anna Tracz, who peacefully, with her family by her side, passed on at the age of 78 years at Seven Oaks Hospital on June 14, 2003. VERNON LLOYD ATKINS On Friday, July 25, 2003 at his residence, Vern Atkins, aged 69 years of Selkirk, MB passed away. He will be sadly missed by his children, Timothy, Laurie, Vaughn (Sandra), Runa (Andre), Jennifer (Glen) and their mother Shirley. He is also leaves numerous grand-children, his brother Bill; sister June, brother-in-law Harold and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Vern was predeceased by his parents, Archie and Runa, his sister Eleanor, brother-in-law Rod and sister-in-law Florence. Vern was born icon on September 14, 1933 in Selkirk. He was a bus driver for Greyhound for 31 years, retiring in 1993. Some of his interests were horse racing, curling, hunting and watching his children and grandchildren play sports. He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him. Funeral services was held on Wednesday, July 30 at 11:00 a.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Selkirk. CAROLINE BAJCER January 19, 1922 - July 30, 2003 Caroline beloved wife of Stanley passed away at St. Boniface Hospital on July 30, 2003. AYLMER GILBERT BRUYERE July 9, 1942 - July 29, 2003 Aylmer Gilbert Bruyere died peacefully at Pine Falls Hospital at the age of 61 years. He leaves to cherish his memory, wife Margaret; sons, John (Lorna), Oliver, Donovan (Melody); daughters, Shirley (Adrien), Maxine, Terry (Mike); sister Jeanette; sisters-in-law, Lillian, Florence, Harriet (Joe) and Lillian; and brother-in-law Clifford (Linda); eight extended sisters and 10 extended brothers; 15 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; one godson; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, Sammy Louis and Edwin; a sister Florence; his mother Annie Margaret Bruyere; stepfather Arthur Bruyere; father Edward Courchene; father and mother-in-law Mathew and Agnes Kent; brother-in-law Fred Kent. Gilbert's pallbearers will be Clarence Bunn, Faron Buboire, Sam Courchene, Preston Courchene, David Dorie, Gillis Norman; also honorary pallbearers, Brian Bruyere and Joshua Letander. Wake service began on Wednesday evening, July 30, at House 206, Northshore Rd., Fort Alexander, MB. Funeral service will begin on Saturday, August 2 at 11:00 a.m. in the St. Alexander Roman Catholic Church, with Fr. Jean Jacque, Fr. Gabriel Leveque and Rev. Richard Bruyere officiating. ROBERT LEONARD CARPENTER Peacefully with his family by his side Robert Leonard Carpenter, loving husband, father, and grandfather passed away on July 28, 2003 at the age of 68. Son of Edwin John and Florence Carpenter. He leaves to mourn his wife of 43 years, Joan Carpenter; daughters, Lori (Daryl) Benoit, Joanne (Darren) Deserranno; son Brad (Brenda) Carpenter; grandchildren, Joshua, Kristy, Cody, and Olivia; brother Jim (Barb); four sisters, Rose (Jim), Gloria, Linda (Verral), Stella; nieces and nephews. Robert was predeceased by his parents; daughter Kimberly Carpenter; son Warren Carpenter; three brothers; Bill, Charles, John; sisters, Edith and Ellen. Dad retired from CPR in 1993. He was a dedicated Lion's Club member for many years. He enjoyed attending church at the corps. Any Sunday his melodic voice could be heard in song. Dad was interested in model railroads, was an avid reader, and loved to share a joke with family and friends. Dad - there is a special place in heaven for a special man. DOUG CLARK On Sunday, July 27, 2003, Doug Clark passed away at the Grace General Hospital. Doug is survived by his children, Sandra McLachlan of St. Albert, AB, and Doug (Marlene) Clark of Winnipeg; five grand-children, Shaun McLachlan, Kelly (Darren) Purpur, Justin, Branden and Curtis Clark; two great-grandchildren, Brittany and Alexis Purpur. Doug was predeceased by wife Ruth in 2000. A private service will be held by his family.

THELMA CLARK Peacefully on Wednesday, July 30, 2003, Thelma Clark, aged 88 years, passed away at the Boyne Lodge in Carman. She is survived by one sister Winifred Popke of Carman, and numerous relatives and friends. Prior to retirement Thelma worked for many years at Macdonald's Shoe Store on Main Street in Winnipeg. Thelma was predeceased by twin brother Don Clark, and one sister Viola 4Fleming. Funeral service will be held on Friday, August 1 at 11:00 a.m. at Doyle's Funeral Chapel in Carman, with interment in Greenwood Cemetery. Donations may be made to a charity of one's choice. Alice Cooper

ALICE RUBY (HARRIS) COOPER July 23, 1917 - July 26, 2003 Peacefully, surrounded by family, Ruby passed away after a courageous battle with cancer. Born and raised in Winnipeg, she was married to William Handford Cooper from 1940 until his death in 1992. She enjoyed painting ceramics, knitting, other handwork, and caring for her plants. She formed many fond friendships at Crescent Fort Rouge United Church, Bleak House Seniors Centre, and the East Kildonan Garden Club. This year she received a Certificate of Recognition for 30 years of service as a volunteer on the Board of Directors of the Fort Rouge Ecumenical Apartments Inc. Ruby will be lovingly remembered by her children: Dorene and Gary Thrush, Joyce McKeag, Bill and June Cooper, and Bob and Linda Cooper; her grandchildren: Doug and Kirstie Thrush, Don Thrush, Danielle and Jeff Carrie, Lynette Thrush, Gordon and Suzanne McKeag, Bill and Erin Cooper, Ken and Lynn Cooper, and Elizabeth, Bobby, Alicia, and Emily Cooper; and eight great-grandchildren. In addition, she will be missed by her brother and sister-in-law, Ed and Pat Harris of North Carolina, and many other relatives and friends. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by her brother, Cliff Harris, and her son-in-law, Richard McKeag. The family wishes to thank the staff at Riverview Health Centre and the Winnipeg Home Care Workers as well as her many doctors for their tender, patient care. A funeral service will be held Monday, August 4, 2003 at Crescent Fort Rouge United Church, Nassau Street at Wardlaw Avenue at 1:00 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Manitoba Division, 193 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 9Z9 or a charity of your choice.
