DOMENIC ROMEO Peacefully, after a lengthy illness, it is with deep regret and sorrow that we announce the passing of Domenic Romeo on Friday, October 4, 2002 at Deer Lodge Centre. He was 76 years old. Domenic leaves to mourn his wife of 39 years Luigina (nee Scerbo); two children, Anna (Mike), Antonio (fiance, Jaynie); grandsons, Adam and Jordan Houde; brothers, August (Caterina), Orest (Rena), Joe (Rosina); sisters, Maria, Concetta (Mario), Antonietta (Joe) of Victoria, BC and Rafaela of Amato, Italy; also numerous nieces, nephews and relatives. Funeral mass will be held on Thursday, October 10 at 11:00 a.m. in Saint Joseph the Worker Parish, 505 Brewster St., with Father Wenceslao Rebillaco officiating. Interment will follow in Transcona Cemetery, 5014 Dugald Rd. Dear, Papa, Nonno "Sleep on now, and enjoy your rest". MARY RUTRICH Peacefully, on Monday, October 7, 2002, Mary Rutrich, aged 97 years, passed away at Holy Family Nursing Home. She was predeceased by her husband Anton in 1973. Mary will be sadly missed by her two daughters, Mary (Hilar) Gerbery and Ann (Edmund) Hicoski; five grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and other relatives in the Slovak Republic. The family would like to thank the staff on the 2nd floor of the Holy Family Nursing Home for all their care and compassion. WAYNE FRANCIS SHORT Passed peacefully away at home in St. John's, NF, surrounded by his loving family on Monday, October 7, 2002 after a two-year battle with cancer. Wayne Francis Short, aged 49 years. Predeceased by his father, Edward in 1991. Leaving to mourn with loving memories are his devoted wife of 25 years, Timmie, son Jeffery (special friend Andrea) of Manitoba and daughter Kathy. Also leaving to mourn are his mother Bernice; brothers, Kevin (Mary Elizabeth) of Ontario, Peter (Elaine) of British Columbia; sisters, Carol (Joe) Wadden, Bernadette (Randy) Rowe; mother-in-law Evelyn Gibbons; brothers-in-law, Brian (Beverley) Gibbons, Sandy (Angela) Gibbons, Gerard (Nancy) Gibbons of Nova Scotia; sister-in-law Shelia (Bob) Power of Ontario. Also left to mourn are many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews, along with a large circle of friends. Resting at Caul's Funeral Home, LeMarchant Road, (709) 753-6845, St. John's, NF on Tuesday, October 8 and Wednesday, October 9 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Thursday, October 10 at 9:30 a.m. from St. Patrick's Church. MARGARET SHUTTLEWORTH 1907 - 2002 Peacefully on October 5, 2002, Margaret Shuttleworth passed away at the Grace Hospital at the age of 94. She is survived by her family; son Ron (Sandy); daughters, Terry and Sandy (Bruce); grandchildren, Kim (Brian), Roley (Leanne), Erin (Wade), Stacey, Kevin, Carmen, Jason (Kerry), Shari and Brian; great-grandchildren, Sydney, Calder and Danyon; also daughter-in-law Pat and son-in-law Larry; as well as many nieces and nephews in Canada and Wales. Margaret was predeceased by her husband George in 1983; her daughter Patricia in 1963; and also five brothers and three sisters. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one's choice. A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 11 at 3:00 p.m. at the Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. Interment will follow the service. Patrick Smale

PATRICK WILLIAM SMALE May 2, 1922 - October 7, 2002 Peacefully on Monday, October 7, 2002 at the St. Boniface Hospital (McEwen Centre), Patrick William Smale passed away at the age of 80 years. Patrick was born icon in Winnipeg and served in the Canadian Navy overseas during the Second World War. In 1949, he joined the Winnipeg Transit retiring in 1984. He had a great love of cars, music, books and travel. His greatest love was his family and the many happy times spent with them. Patrick leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 53 years Elizabeth (Dellapenta); children, Teresa and John Deniset (Winnipeg), Richard and Karen Smale (Calgary, AB), Sandra and David Bulles (Kenora, ON); and his grandchildren, Patrick, Nicole and Diana. Many thanks to Dr. Prasad and staff of M3 McEwen Centre, St. Boniface Hospital. Funeral Mass will be celebrated by Fr. Ron Pasinato at Christ the King Church, 847 St. Mary's Rd. on Thursday, October 10, at 10:00 a.m. Interment of ashes will be at Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. A gathering of family and friends will follow at Glen Lawn Reception Centre. Leon was a proud dignified and generous man with a kind spirit. He lived many years at 185 Smith St. He enjoyed going to Lion's Place Day Club, and his many friends will miss him greatly. HENRI (HARRY) SOUYRI Henri (Harry) Souyri passed away peacefully on Monday, October 7, 2002 at the Bayside Personal Care Home in Killarney. Harry was born icon in Dunrea, MB, on January 10, 1913 and resided in Dunrea all his life. He was a charter member of the Knights of Columbus, Dunrea Council. Harry had an entrepreneurial spirit and had many occupations throughout his life. Harry had worked in the dairy industry, maintenance at Camp Shilo, and retired from the Department of Highways. He was an avid antique collector and enjoyed nothing more than attending a good auction sale. He was predeceased by his wife Catherine (Kae), nee Gailbraith. He was also predeceased by his parents, Marc and Marie Emilie and his brother Joseph. He is survived by his sister Marie Carney (Norbert) and his brother Louis and several nieces and nephews. Active pallbearers will be Peter Carney, Paul Carney, Pat Carney, Frank Tervoort, Morris Hoshowski and Brent Main. Honorary pallbearers will be Norbert Carney, Benny Souyri, Paul R. Boulet, Neil Quigley, Bob Arran, Bob Wright and George Boulet. Prayers and viewing will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, October 11, with funeral mass to follow at 11:00 a.m. at St. Felix de Valois Church in Dunrea. Burial to follow in the Dunrea Cemetery. KENNETH MURRAY THOMPSON After a long battle with cancer Ken Thompson aged 51 years of Portage, MB died at the Portage District General Hospital on Monday, October 7, 2002. Funeral service will be held from St. John the Baptist Anglican Church in Manitou, MB on Thursday, October 10 at 2:00 p.m., Rev. Alvin Jacobs officiating. Interment to follow in Manitou Cemetery. SYLVIA THWAITES It is with deep sadness that the family announces the sudden passing of Sylvia Ingaborg Thwaites, on Saturday, October 5, 2002. She will be greatly missed by her daughter Melissa; and three sons, Brad, Tyler and Trevor; only grandson Seith; her parents, Renata and Joe Rossow; sister Tina; and close friend Dave. EDWARD (ED) BEREZOWSKI It is with great sorrow that the family announce the sudden passing of Ed Berezowski on November 16, 2002, at the age of 65, father of Mark Berezowski. Ed was born icon in Gimli, MB on November 19, 1936. He worked for the R.M. of Gimli for many years, taking an early retirement at the age of 55. Ed enjoyed hunting, playing darts, and taking walks with his metal detector and his dog Freddie. He is survived by his son Mark of Winnipeg; brother Joe (Arlene) or Ethelbert; sisters, Joan (Dennis) of Winnipeg, and Marian of Calgary and their families. Ed was predeceased by his wife Mary on November 3, 1988; and his parents, Frank in 1984 and Bernice in 1999. Prayers will be said on Tuesday, November 19, at 7:00 p.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Home, Gimli. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 20, at 11:00 a.m. in the St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church, Gimli with Fr. Art Seaman officiating. Interment to follow in the Saints Cyril and Methodius Cemetery, Gimli. Pallbearers will be Brent Berezowski, Garry Berezowski, Rob Shymkiw, Carl Kaminski and Steve Cherniak. William Bernard

WILLIAM ANDERSON BERNARD May 29, 1934 - November 14, 2002 After a lengthy illness on November 14, 2002, William (Bill) Bernard of Winnipeg passed away very peacefully. Bill was born icon in Winnipeg and lived most of his life there. He cherished his many good friends that were just like family to him. Bill worked for Hill Security for many years and was devoted to his work. He was also involved with the Kiwanis Club. Bill had a companion, Marmalade, his cat that he truly adored, that kept him company through the latter years until he could no longer take care of him. His brother Alex (wife Betty) of Victoria, BC; brother-in-law Art Johnson of Florida, USA; brother-in-law Ron Hopkins of Nanaimo, BC; and various nieces and nephews survive Bill. God has welcomed him into His world to be with his mother Isabella; father Alexander; sisters, Charlotte and Agnes; and brother Dave. At Uncle Bill's request only a private ceremony at the St. James Cemetery will take place. A special thank you to uncle Bill's homecare givers. A special thank you to Susie's special angels, Jerry and Jeannie McAlpine, for being there for my Uncle Bill until God took his hand.

MARIE MADELINE BUNN Peacefully, with her family by her side, our loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, auntie and friend passed away on Sunday, November 17, 2002. She leaves to cherish her memory her loving husband of 59 years Roderick Bunn Sr.; her children, Mary (Dallas), Ambrose (Harriet), Wilfred, Roderick Jr. (Cynthia), Lena (Ron), Doris (Walter), Henry (Juliet), Cameron (Harriet), Roland, Zelma (Henry), Lionel (Marie), Beverly and Blaine; as well as 65 grandchildren, 100 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are sisters, Bella and Mildred (Clifford); her in-laws, Joseph (Laura), John (Virginia), Mary (Tom), Christina, Verna and Andrew. Our beloved mother has gone to join her father Pierre and mother Hannah; brothers, Victor and Lawrence; sisters, Dorothy, Susan, Annie, Angele and Myrna; her beloved sons; Lee-Lee, Nelson and Clarence; son-in-law Jerry; father-in-law Alexander; mother-in-law Florence; brothers-in-law Frank, Harvey, Joseph and Alec; as well as four beloved grandchildren, Jessica, Farrah, Vincent and Ronald. We wish to acknowledge special friends, Karen, Marie, Lena, Lucy, Muriel, Helen and Eva. Our mother was truly gifted, she raised her own and then her sister's children and grandchildren. She leaves to mourn Alfred, Lloyd, Maggie, Nora, Lillian, Linda, Maureen, Adeline, Marie, Judy, Malie, Joey, Kathy and Roman. Wake services will be held at the home of Roderick Bunn Sr., North Shore Ft. Alexander, MB. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 21 at 10:00 a.m. from the St. Alexander R.C. Church, Ft. Alexander, with Fr. Laval Cloutier and Fr. Jean Jacques Sarceau officiating. Interment in the parish cemetery. Pallbearers will be R.J., Nelson, Steven, Derek, Neil and Kelvin.
