Claire is survived by her true love, husband of fifty-eight years, Joseph (Kiely); her children, Patricia (John), Richard (Ellen), Michael (Terri), Diane (Greg), Janet (Danny), David and Allan. She was predeceased by her parents Joseph and Elizabeth (Hague) and her brothers, Joe and Gus (Shirley). Claire was born in Edmonton on June 8, 1925. She enjoyed a wonderful life with many cousins and aunts and uncles nearby. She was introduced to her soon-to-be Lancaster pilot husband by his sister Mary. She was there to meet him in Brandon, Man. when he arrived safely home from World War II. They married in Edmonton on April 27, 1946 and lived through the Winnipeg flood of 1950 where Joe did his University. Eventually they settled in Calgary, with trips to England and Ireland in the 1960's. Later came the Europe-on-twenty dollars/day-adventure with all the kids in 1968. They made many friends in the North when they enjoyed five years in Yellowknife in the 1970's. They ultimately chose Nanton, Alberta as their final home, where they enjoyed over twenty-five happy years at their Art Shoppe and Joe volunteered with the Nanton Lancaster Society Air Museum. Claire loved to entertain and was the perfect hostess who will always be remembered for her perfect pastry, butter tarts, lasagna and, as all the grandkids know, her perfect gravy. She was a stylish redhead with great style and loved to surround herself with beauty and color. She had flare as a decorator and a framer and she showed us all how to turn pictures into art. She loved family gatherings and made every occasion worthy of her treasured china. As some may know, she practiced yoga for over thirty years which helped sustain her in her brief illness with cancer. She was proud to be a mother, grandmother and a citizen of the loving Nanton community and her church, St. Cecilia's. Claire's specialty was that she made every one of us feel like we were her favourite child, sibling, grandchild or friend. She was a generous and loving gem who influenced many. We loved her and we will miss her forever. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Cecilia's Church in Nanton, AB at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 19, 2004.
