LACROIX - Patrick Dominique 1960 - 2003 Patrick Dominique Lacroix, beloved husband of Carrie Lacroix of Calgary, passed away peacefully at home after a courageous battle with cancer on Friday, February 7, 2003, at the age of 42 years. Pat was born in Saskatoon, SK on May 12, 1960. He attended Holy Cross High School and knew early on in his high school years that his future would be in radio. At age seventeen, Pat's dream came true when he was hired by CJWW in Saskatoon to work the graveyard shift on weekends. Following this he worked at CFQC until moving on to the Calgary radio scene at CFCN and CFR. In 1991, Pat "O'Bryan" returned to Saskatoon for a six year run as morning man at C95 until the lure of Calgary brought him back to CFR for a continuation of his successful radio career. Patrick enjoyed life to the full in every way. He was a kind, outgoing and charismatic man who made a lasting impression on all who had the pleasure of his company. Pat had the genuine ability to make everyone around him feel good. His memory will be cherished. Pat is survived by his loving and devoted wife Carrie; his parents, Jean and Lydia Lacroix; his sisters, Nadia Neutelings (John and Heather) and Danielle Tkachuk (Tim, Bryan and Courtney), all of Saskatoon. He is also lovingly remembered by his mother-in-law Hilda Sinclair of Saskatoon; brothers-in-law, Jay Sinclair (Julie, Max and Alex) of Calgary, John Sinclair (Leslie); and sister-in-law Cherie Sinclair, both of Toronto. ABEL - Marjorie (nee Mitchell) Peacefully on Monday, April 14, 2003, in her 87th year, at the Credit Valley Hospital, Mississauga, Ontario. Beloved wife of the late Ernie and loving mother of Judy Abel of Calgary, and Sue Baker of Richmond Hill. Marj will especially be missed by her grandchildren, Tara, Mark and Ryan; and her great-grandchildren, Billy, Sasha, Josh and Jacob. She will also be remembered by John Baker, Art Zelmer and Steve Rosen. Special thanks to her personal loving caregivers, Dolores, Audrey and Evelyn and the wonderful staff at Sunrise Assisted Living in Mississauga. Marj married Ernie in Montreal in 1942 after graduating from McGill University in 1938 and working as a dietician at the Montreal General Hospital. BACHEWICH - Edward On April 12, 2003, Mr. Edward Bachewich passed away in Grande Prairie, Alberta, in his 69th year, after several years of failing health. BALOG - Anna 1907 - 2003 Anna Balog, of Calgary, passed away at the Bethany Care Centre on Sunday, April 13, 2003 at the age of 95 years. In 1980, Anna was predeceased by her loving husband Steve. BEATTIE - Raymond Arthur On April 14, 2003, Raymond Arthur Beattie of Calgary, Alberta, passed away at the age of 62 years with family by his side after a strong fight against cancer. He is survived by two daughters, Sherry Rae Beattie (Lorne Harder) and Shawna Beattie, all of Edmonton; two granddaughters, Jade Krall and Madison Krall, both of Calgary; eight sisters and one brother, Mona (Al) MacDonald of Scarborough, ON, Hazel Keenan of Riverview, NB, Alberta (Leo) Boucher of Campbellford, ON, Marguarite (Berton) Blizzard of St. John, NB, Elva Guitard of Campbellford, ON, Norman Beattie (Janet) of Halifax, Dorothy (Burton) Cox of Hampton, NB, Ruth (Frank) Corbin and Sandra (Michael) Teehan, all of Quispamsis, NB; and aunt Thelma Ballard of Doaktown, NB; and twenty-six nieces and nephews. Predeceased by parents Elwood Crocker and Myrna Hazel, sisters, Doris and Greta. Ray spent twenty-four years with Flight Services for Transport Canada being stationed in Edmonton, Yellowknife, Fort McMurray, Fort Nelson and Medicine Hat. In 1984, Ray formed Aalray Maintenance Repair which he dissolved in 1986. From that time until his retirement in 2002, he was Resident Maintenance Manager of a two hundred and eighty-eight suite apartment complex in Calgary. Ray had a deep feeling for kids and regularly sponsored children through the World Vision International. He will be fondly remembered for his friendly manner, love of movies, music and sharp clothes. HARPER - Joseph Harris 1927 - 2003 Joseph Harris Harper passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 12, 2003 at the Foothills Hospital in Calgary, AB, at the age of 75 years. Joe was born September 20, 1927 in Moncton, NB, and following graduation from Moncton High School he went to work for Hudson McMackin & Co., Chartered Accountants, where he articled for five years and attained his C.A in 1950. In 1951, he moved to Toronto and continued his work in public accounting with George A. Touche & Co. Shortly after, he met Margaret Johnston and they were married September 18, 1954. In 1955, Joe left public accounting to work for Imperial Oil Ltd. Early on in his career, Joe was identified as having an aptitude for logic and systems, and he became part of the group installing Imperial's first computer in 1958, going on to work in computers and systems for the next twenty-two years. In 1961, he served in Ottawa with the Glassco Royal Commission on Government Organization as a team leader. He also served on several CICA bodies, and specialized in standard setting. In his last years with Imperial he was Manager of Accounting Policy. Joe retired in 1986, and pursued with a passion his many hobbies. These included the music of Duke Ellington, military history and collectibles. As an Army cadet in World War Two he began to amass a large collection of Canadian military badges and an extensive knowledge of the lineage and insignia of the Canadian Forces. He and the late Frank Dunbar co-authored "Old Colours Never Die", which received high praise as a work of military research. Joe also authored "A Source of Pride", a monograph on the badges of the Canadian Expeditionary Force, 1914 to 1918, and acted as a consultant on related matters to the Department of National Defence. For his research and writing, he received the Queen's Golden Jubilee Medal in 2002. Joe moved to Calgary in 1995 to be closer to his sons and grandchildren. Grampy will be greatly missed by his four favourites, Benjamin, Katie, Rachel, and Elizabeth; by his sons, Stephen, Grant, and Robert; by his daughters-in-law, Laureen, Elan; and by his beloved wife of forty-eight years, Margaret. He is also survived by his brother George, and sister-in-law Jennie of Lawrenceville, Georgia. He will also be remembered by his sister-in-law Catherine; and brothers-in-law, Mel, Bob and wife Esther, Tom and wife Joan; and the family of his late sister-in-law Rose, and her late husband Howard; his many nieces and nephews and the many friends from across the country with whom Joe maintained an active correspondence. Joe lived life with great integrity and taught us all the meaning of 1 Corinthians 13.
