Delaphine Wesling
October 7, 1924 - February 2, 2012
The family is saddened to announce the sudden passing of Mrs. Delaphine (nee Puetz) Wesling, 87 years of Humboldt at Humboldt District Hospital on Thursday, February 2, 2012. Delaphine was born on October 7, 1924 the eldest child to Isidor and Catherine (nee Muller) Puetz in the Marysburg area. She obtained her grade eight education at the Blume School. Delaphine ventured out to British Columbia where she worked for a short time and later returned to Saskatchewan and worked in Prince Albert. Along with her family she took an active part in the Assumption Church. On October 2, 1945 she married Alexander Wesling at the Assumption R.C. Church in Marysburg. She was very delighted to become a mother to two son’s upon which the sun rose and set. Together they began farming in the area. Delaphine loved her life in the country and enjoyed to appreciate the wonders of nature. In the mid 50’s they moved to Humboldt and she continued to take care of their family home and her sons. When the grandchildren
and great grandchildren started to arrive her love for them grew deeper and deeper as she was very proud of them and their accomplishments. All though a very private person Delaphine loved to share a good card game with family and friends. She loved to visit and entertain and crochet items for her family. Delaphine was vibrant and interested in life, also a good source of information about years past in the family. When trying to recall some happening of years ago, you could count on Del to remember. Delaphine will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her two sons, five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren: Eric (Rick) Wesling (Faye) of Calgary and his family Keltie (Hemi) Wesling – Macgregor and children Huia, Kahu and Rere of New Zealand, Kresse Wesling (James Henrit) of Bournemouth, United Kingdom and Jon Wesling (Tricia Nudd)of Vancouver, BC; and David (Marie) Wesling of Humboldt and family Lara (Clint) Berschiminsky and children Jordan and Jenae of Saskatoon and Ashley (Heidi) Wesling and children Burke and Kate of Regina; seven sisters: Beatrice Parker, Irene Evans, Bernice Pasmeny, Bernadine Carlson, Sheila Faul, Annette Puetz and Linda Johnson; three brothers: Gerald Puetz, Murray Puetz and Robert Puetz; numerous nieces, nephews and members of the Wesling family. Delaphine was predeceased by her mother Catherine, her step-mother Agnes (nee Doppler), three sisters Marie Muench, Darlene Dufresne, and Mildred Cameron. The Prayer Service was held on Friday, February 3, 2012 at 6:30 p.m. presided by Nestor Trach with organist Darlene Cash. Scripture readers were, Jon Wesling and Ashley Wesling. Words of remembrance were given by Eric (Rick) Wesling. The Funeral Mass was held on Saturday, February 4, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. celebrated by Fr. Demetrius Wasylyniuk OSB. Others taking part in the mass were: cross bearer Ashley Wesling, intentions Jon Wesling, gift bearers Lara Berschiminsky and Heidi Wesling and urn bearer Jon Wesling. Honorary pallbearers were: “All those who shared in Delaphine’s life”. Interment will follow at a later date in the St. Augustine R.C. Cemetery

Clarence Weiman
November 6, 1929 - January 27, 2012
Mr. Clarence Bernard Weiman, 82 years of Bruno, passed away on Friday, January 27, 2012. Clarence was born on the family farm near Bruno on November 6, 1929 to George and Mary (nee Roettger) Weiman. He grew up on the farm and attended Thiel Krentz School. On July 19, 1954, Clarence married Ramona Diebert. They made their home in Bruno and Clarence worked at a variety of different jobs through the years. He was handy at many things and tried his hand at carpentry, welding, mechanics and upholstery. He even used their station wagon as an ambulance for a time, making many trips to the hospital with a patient in the back. They enjoyed many good times at their cabin at Wakaw Lake over the years where Clarence always liked to be out on the lake, fishing. He loved gardening and had a beautiful yard full of flowers. Clarence was a good cook and baker, making excellent cookies and cinnamon buns to share with whoever stopped in to visit. He crafted many butterflies that can be seen on the sides of houses all over town. Clarence enjoyed being outside and going for walks. Most important was his dedication to his wife, Ramona and the loving care he always provided for her over the years. Clarence will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his wife of 57 years, Ramona Weiman of Bruno; three sisters: Marina (Nick) Sand of Humboldt, Myrna (Alphonse) Thimm of Bruno, and Elaine (Duane) Wourms of Saskatoon; sisters-in-law: Rosemarie Weiman of Bruno, Marianna Weiman of Quesnel, BC, and Viola Sand and Arleen (Dale) Ebner, all of Bruno; and numerous nieces and nephews. Clarence was predeceased by his parents, George (1977) and Mary (1983) Weiman; three brothers: Theodore (1983), Clifford (1998), and Isadore (in infancy); one sister, Angeline (in childhood); and brother-in-law, Edwin Sand. The Funeral Service for Clarence was held on Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at Malinoski & Danyluik Funeral Home, Humboldt, SK, officiated by Fr. Joseph Ackerman, OSB. Others taking part in the service were: readers, Aileen Nienaber-Loxterkamp and Marina Sand; intentions, Holly Marshak and Janice Williams; and urn bearer, Ramona Weiman. Sr. Sida Hrabchek, OSE
July 15, 1936 - January 23, 2012
“I was hungry and you gave me to eat … I was thirsty and you gave me to drink… I was sick and you cared for me” these words inspired Sr. Sida throughout her life until her unexpected death at the Humboldt and District Hospital on January 23, 2012. Sida Hrbachek was the eight child born to Andrew and Caroline (Kubas) Hrbachek in Czechoslovakia. In 1937 the family immigrated to Canada and settled on a farm in Mistatim, Sask. Sida attended the Mistatim Elementary School and then applied to the Sask. Institute of Applied Arts and Sciences in Saskatoon for the Practical Nursing Assistant program becoming the youngest Nursing Assistant ever to graduate. It was while working at St. Michael’s Hospital in Cudworth that Sida met the Sisters of St. Elizabeth and asked to be admitted to the Congregation as a candidate. She received the name Sr. Pius of the Holy Eucharist at her reception of the habit but later returned to her baptismal name Sr. Sida. On Oct. 30, 1963 she pronounced her religious vows. She went on to receive her high school diploma at the Humboldt Collegiate and her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Sask. All of life, but nursing in particular was a service of love for Sr. Sida as she attended to anyone in need and to patients in Cudworth, Humboldt, LaLoche, Ile-a-la-Crosse, in the psychiatry department at St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto or in Brazil where she served for several years with the Abbacy Mission team. While working in Northern Saskatchewan Sr. Sida was alone to deliver a baby in an airplane and was told by the medical staff that she had a better eye for diagnosing patients than many doctors. Her care extended not only to those who were sick but especially to those who were dying. She spent countless days and nights at the bedside of the dying be it for family, friends, acquaintances or the Sisters with whom she lived. In whatever convent she resided, Sr. Sida had a special care for those who were suffering, sick or dying, carrying out her ministry unobtrusively with patience, compassion and prayer. Sr. Sida will be sorely missed by the Sisters of St. Elizabeth and her family. In the community we remember her as a woman with a keen sense of humor, many and varied talents and extremely hard working. She loved to cook and bake, knit and crochet, listen to music and play cards, garden and houseclean. Sr. Sida was very close to her family taking a keen interest in all her nieces and nephews as well as to the many friends she made wherever she lived - many of whom received a phone call just last week. Sr. Sida also served as general councilor for a brief period and two terms as general treasurer, a position she held when she died. Sr. Sida is lovingly remembered by her Sisters in community, her family Steffie and Len Lahoski of Cranbrook, B.C., Peter and Margaret Hrbachek of Mistatim, SK; Edith (Janzen) Hrbachek of Tisdale, SK; Emil and Agnes Hrbachek of Tisdale, SK; Mary and Almer Wiesensel of Cudworth, SK; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Andrew and Caroline Hrbachek; her brothers Frank, Steve, Paul at 17, and Andrew as an infant; her nieces and nephews Clifford Hrbachek, Sean Weisensel, Caroline Lahoski, and Elaine Huculak. The Funeral Mass for Sr. Sida was held on Saturday, January 28, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Augustine Roman Catholic Church, Humboldt, concelebrated by Abbot Peter Novecosky, OSB, Fr. Daniel Muyres, OSB and Fr. Bernard Stauber, OSB. Others taking part in the mass were: crossbearer, Quinn Schulzky; scripture readers, Crystal Hrabchek and Sherry Schulzky; prayers of the faithful, Lisa Wiesensel; and offerings, Sr. Philomena Dobmeier, OSE and Sr. Viola Bens, OSE. Honorary Pallbearers were “all those who shared in Sr. Sida’s life.” Active Pallbearers were Andrew Hrabchek, Anthony Hrabchek, Paul Hrabchek, Ward Wiesensel, Dean Wiesensel and Tyler Schulzky. Interment followed in the Sisters of St. Elizabeth Cemetery, Humboldt. Memorial donations in Sr. Sida’s memory may be made to the Sisters of St. Elizabeth Health Care Fund. Alvin Briske
April 1, 1925 - January 13, 2012
Mr. Alvin Briske, 86 years of Jansen, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 13, 2012 at Humboldt District Hospital. Alvin was born on April 1, 1925 to Alvin and Anna Briske at home in the Jansen district. He grew up in the area, attending Alton School. Alvin loved the farm, it was not a job to him, it was his life. He eventually took over the family grain operation which he was actively involved in until just last year. On June 26, 1947, he married Margaret Biedler and together they raised a family of three sons. The boys were all called upon to help with the farming as they were growing up, however only Larry chose to also make this his lifestyle. Throughout the years, Alvin also ran a TV and radio repair business from their home, often making house calls as well. Alvin was involved in their community and area, serving on the Board of Directors for LeRose Lodge in LeRoy for 15 years and as a Trustee for the Jansen School District for 20 years. He was an avid and accomplished curler for many years, while in more recent years he enjoyed the games on TV. Fishing and golf were other pastimes that he enjoyed participating in. Alvin enjoyed music, especially the old time tunes and played the accordion. Although he enjoyed many activities over the years, farming always took first place and everything else was worked around that. Alvin will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 64 years, Margaret “Peggy” Briske (nee Biedler) of Jansen; daughter-in-law, two sons, six grandchildren and three great grandchildren: Pamala Briske of Jansen and family, Shannon (Jill) Briske and children Cassidy, Mason and Berlyn; and Byron Briske (fiancé, Danielle), all of Saskatoon, and Meagan Briske of Dubai; Dale (Diane) Briske and family, Marcus Briske and Lauren Briske, all of Edmonton, AB; and Paul (Joanne) Briske and son Maxwell, all of Calgary; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Alvin was predeceased by his parents, Alvin and Anna Briske; son, Larry Briske; and one brother and three sisters: Adolph (Cecilia) Briske, Tina (Joe) Koshinsky, Anne (Max) Federson, and Mary (William) Arnst. The Funeral Service for Alvin was held on Saturday, January 21, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Malinoski & Danyluik Funeral Home, officiated by Pastor Lisa Skogsrud, with organist Elaine Siegel. Arthur Gurke
May 13, 1934 - January 2, 2012
The family of Art Gurke sadly announce his peaceful passing at Central Parkland Lodge, Lanigan on January 2, 2012 at 8:30 p.m. Art farmed in the Jansen/Lanigan district until 1977, when he and his wife Elma moved to Lanigan, SK. Art then found employment at the Co-op Lumberyard, the piggery, High School and as a guard for the RCMP. Art retired in 1992. He continued to stay busy gardening, cooking, baking, babysitting, smithing, fishing, camping, socializing and spending time with family. Left behind to mourn are his loving wife of almost 53 years, ELMA; their six children, 12 grandchildren and six great grandchildren: Helen Wight and her family, Aaron, Christopher and Andrew; Maryanne (Roger) Fedora and their daughter, Shaylene; Margaret (Ron) Stratuliak and their daughter, Sheila and her children, Preston and Jace; Beverley (Murray) Worobec and their family, Christopher (fiancé Krista), Tyler (Kristian) and their children Noah, Emily and Haliegh, and Matthew; Alvin (Johanne) Gurke and their family, Niki and her daughter Caydence, and Shelby; and Alfred (Gail) Gurke and their family, Ryan and Ashley; three sisters: Annie Block; Olga Kautz and Ludema (Al) Kuechle and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, Henry and Annie Gurke; Elma’s parents, Jack and Ida Hansen; brother, Alfred Gurke; brothers-in-law: Albert Hansen, Ray Dobson, Eugene Proznick, Sam Block and Arnold Kautz; sisters-in-law: Elaine Dobson, Anne Hansen, and Bertha Gurke; great grandson, Austin Wild; nephew, Gerald Kautz and niece, Hazel Hansen. Art left us all with fond memories that we will cherish forever. The family would like to say a special thank you to Dr. Saxena for all the years of medical care. We would also like to thank the Home Care Nurses and the wonderful caring staff at Central Parkland Lodge for their excellent care and love for Art. A Memorial Service conducted by Rev. Mearl Koob
June 26, 1937 - January 3, 2012
The death of Mrs. Mearl Koob (nee Boak), 74 years of Meacham, occurred on Tuesday, January 3, 2012 at Humboldt District Hospital. Mearl was born on June 26, 1937 in Saskatoon to Aaron and Isobel (nee Wilkin) Boak. She grew up in the Kildrum area and attended elementary school there. Mearl then took her high school education in Saskatoon at Nutana Collegiate. Following her education, she ventured out to Calgary where she worked as a clerk in a drug store. Mearl moved to Oregon, where she lived for number of years and then returned to Saskatoon with Aaron, her young son from a previous marriage. She went back to school, taking training to become a CNA. Mearl worked for a short time in the hospital but found the shift work difficult with a young child so made a move to work for Home Care. On April 15, 1978, she married Louis Koob and moved to his farm in the Meacham area. Here she did a whole different kind of work. She actively helped Louis on the farm but especially loved her horses, enjoying time spent riding as well as going on trail rides and wagon treks. Mearl had a great love for little creatures and had numerous pets over the years. She enjoyed working in her yard and tending to her flowers. Mearl loved to travel and enjoyed fishing and camping trips, especially the ones with her grandchildren. She loved them dearly and never missed the chance to spend time with them and spoil them, just a little. Mearl was a member of the Lucasville Community Club and being a people person, always enjoyed socializing with the coffee group at the Junction. Mearl will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 33 years, Louis Koob of Meacham; son and daughter-in-law, Aaron and Monique Koob of Meacham; four grandchildren: Kevin Koob of Saskatoon, Christine Koob attending St. Peter’s College in Muenster, and Dean Koob and Ian Koob, both of Meacham; two brothers: Aaron (Gladyse) Boak of Assiniboia and George (Alice) Boak of Saskatoon; and by members of the Koob family. Mearl was predeceased by her parents, Aaron and Isobel Boak. Karen Johnson
April 4, 1966 - April 6, 2012
Karen was born on April 4, 1966 in Thompson, MB to Fred and Lana (nee Pickering) Johnson. She started elementary school in Thompson and completed her schooling in Foam Lake, where the family moved when she was in grade 2. Upon finishing school, she ventured out west to Calgary where she enrolled in an accounting course at Mount Royal College. Over the next number of years, she worked at various jobs in the accounting field in Calgary. It was while living in Calgary and raising her young son, Shawn that Karen met Rick Getz. Together they had two more sons and then decided that they wanted to raise their family back in Saskatchewan. They scouted around the area looking for a place to call home and in the fall of 1999, they moved to Bruno where they have lived ever since. Karen began working at the Bruno Credit Union and then moved on to Meyers, Norris, Penny in Humboldt where she was still employed. Tax season was always busy for her as she also completed tax returns for many Bruno residents from her home office. Karen enjoyed being outdoors and taking care of her yard and garden. She loved camping, especially at Fishing Lake where she had many relatives close by who would stop in to visit. Karen liked working with Rick, renovating, rearranging and designing the interior of their own homes as well as those Rick was working on. She enjoyed reading and loved to travel. Her greatest love was her family and she was very excited to welcome her two grandsons to the world, enjoying any time she got to spend with them. Karen will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her husband, Rick Getz of Bruno; three sons and two grandsons: Shawn Johnson (Corily Nelson) of Foam Lake and his sons Jay and Tristan; and Kevin Getz and Dale Getz, both of Bruno; parents, Fred and Lana Johnson of Foam Lake; brother, Grant Johnson of Foam Lake and sister, Lorelei Johnson (Ricky Lachance) and her son, Blake of Wynyard. A Funeral Service was held on Friday, April 13, 2012 at 4:00 p.m. officiated by Jenny Irwin. Words of remembrance were shared by Corrine Lokinger. Interment will follow at a later date.
