SPRINGBORN - Rosemarie Springborn of Calgary, died suddenly on May 6, 2000, while visiting relatives and friends in Germany. Rosemarie grew up in East Prussia, and came to Canada in 1959. She settled in Calgary, became a Canadian citizen and was proud to call the new city her home. Rosemarie was well-liked by the many people she touched in her charitable work, her social activities, her day to day life and her career at the bank. Her sunny disposition, common sense and courage will be sadly missed. Rosemarie is lovingly remembered by her three children and the young people she had adopted into the extended family group. SUITOR - Jean Lolita (Nee Black) Jean died peacefully at the Allen Gray Continuing Care Centre in Edmonton on Sunday, May 7, 2000. She is survived by her children and their spouses, Ann and Charles Grant, Patricia and Peter Ward, Robert and Marnie Suitor; grandchildren, Catherine, Alison and Allan Grant, Kathryn and Anna Ward, Jane and Gerry McDade, Warren Suitor. Also mourning are Barbara Suitor, Nicki and Lindsay Moon. Jean was predeceased by her husband Warren in May 1993. UNTEREINER - Katie After a long and courageous battle with cancer, on Sunday, May 7, 2000, Katie attained her angel status at the age of 14. She is survived by her loving parents, Bob and Barb of Edmonton; grandparents, Bob and Terry Bacho of Edmonton, and Jim and Ruth Cherry of Westbank, B.C.; aunts and uncles, Dianne (Myron) Wells, Margaret Bacho, Mike Untereiner, Ray (Brenda) Untereiner, Diane (Bob) Dillon, Yvonne (Blair) Brown, Marg Cherry (Bruce) Wagner, John (Jessie) Cherry; as well as many cousins and special friends. She was predeceased by her grandfather Ignace Untereiner. Special thanks to all Katie's caregivers over the past two years. WILKINSON - (nee Smeaton), Mary McAulay, died peacefully at Rosedale Hospice on May 8, 2000 at the age of 63. She will be missed and lovingly remembered by her husband John; her six children, Christopher (Suzanne), Cherylanne (Carlo), Donna, Murray, Samantha (Brad), Fiona; and seven grandchildren, Joni, Ian, Haley, Andrew, Simone, Eric, and JeanLuc. She is also survived by her brother Peter and two sisters, Henrietta and Helen, and numerous nieces and nephews in England. Mary was a teacher and used this gift to help many children. She was very involved with the Presbyterian Church in Canada and its mission. She was an active member of the Presbytery of Calgary-MacLeod providing support for its ministers for many years. Her many friends will remember her as one who gave of herself willingly and who always had an ear to listen and a shoulder to cry on. Mary felt truly blessed to have the support of so many as she struggled with her cancer. Special thanks to Dr. R. MacDonald, her many specialists and nurses at Foothills Hospital, Renata, Carol, Suzie, Catherine and Marlene from Home Care, her nurses from WeCare and all of the special people who loved and cared for her at Rosedale Hospice. VANCE - Robert Dexter Mayhew March 31, 1934 - June 1, 2000 "He fought a brave battle against an unbeatable foe" It is with heavy hearts we announce the peaceful passing of Dad to a better place. Born in Calgary, he attended Glenmore, Milton Williams, Rideau Park and Western Canada High Schools, where he met his future wife Heather. Married in 1956 they had three wonderful children. Bob started at the Calgary Herald as a carrier, became a journeyman pressman in 1954, then was a District Advisor in the Circulation Department for thirty years until 1985 when he went into Box Repair until his retirement, due to ill health in 1998. Bob had many interests in his life, including skiing, astronomy, camping, travelling, woodworking and non-fictional reading. He was a kite-maker, skating rink-marker and campfire-maker extraordinaire. Predeceased by his father Dexter in 1955 and his mother Ellie in 1998, he is survived by his wife Heather of Bragg Creek; daughter Karen (Ben), and granddaughters, Taylor, Reanne and Sydney; son Michael (Audrey), and granddaughters, Sarah and Laura; son David; sister Vallory; brothers, Fred (Vi) and Lorne (Debbie); many cousins, nieces, nephews and wonderful friends. Visitation will be at FOSTER'S GARDEN CHAPEL (32 Avenue and 4 Street N.W., across from Queen's Park Cemetery), on Sunday, June 4, 2000, between 1:00 and 3:00 p.m. Cremation with Private Family Interment at Queen's Park Mausoleum to follow. WILSON - Rita Wilson passed away at the Foothills Hospital on May 31, 2000. Rita is survived by her loving daughter Nancy; three loving sons, Alfred, Victor and Ken; twelve grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. Rita is also survived by in-laws, Ben, Mala, Fred and Bhupen. She was predeceased by her loving husband Charles, and her daughter Valerie Dyal. Rita came to Calgary from the Fiji Islands to join her children. She found employment with S.A.I.T. until her retirement in the 1980's. Rita was well-known by friends and family for her banana bread and samosas. Rita will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. MILLAR - Linda Millar September 14, 1959 - June 7, 2000 Linda Beverly Millar, beloved wife of Rob and mother of Tom (eleven), Brooke (ten), and Grace (seven), passed away to heaven at the Foothills Hospital on June 7, 2000, at the age of 40 years. Linda was an incredibly beautiful person from the inside out. She fought a courageous battle with cancer while at the same time loving her family and friends in a way that cannot be described in such a short space. NICOL - Sister Mary Catherine Nicol, a Sister of Charity of St. Louis, passed away peacefully at the Foothills Hospital in Calgary on Wednesday, June 14, 2000 at the age of 94 years having recently celebrated seventy years in religious life. Sister Mary Catherine will be lovingly remembered by the members of her religious community and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, her twin sister Anne, and two brothers, Leo and Albert. Sister Mary Catherine was born in Maple Creek, Saskatchewan. She entered the Congregation of the Sisters of Charity of St. Louis in 1923 and served in the ministry of education for over forty years in Alberta, Saskatchewan and British Columbia. Upon retiring, she took care of her ailing mother for eight years and spent her remaining retirement years in New Westminster and Calgary. Sister Mary Catherine will be remembered for her deep faith, her unique sense of humour and her love of history, literature, music, art, and gardening. PAPKE - Kenneth Delbert Papke went home to be with God, his Heavenly Father, where there is no more pain, tears and sorrow, on June 12, 2000, after a long and courageous battle with Progressive Supernucular Palsy (P.S.P.) in the Didsbury Nursing Home at the age of 67 years. Ken will continue to live in the hearts of his loving wife Fay; sisters, Florence Stevenson, Inez Banting, Edna (Jim) Weisgerber; brothers, Herbert (Elsie) Papke, Leonard (Marie) Papke, Wes (Laura) Papke, Cec (Sharon) Papke; and other numerous and precious close family and friends. He will always be remembered by many for his love of hockey, golf, music, humor and his great love for laughter. His many one line quotes on life itself, to fit all occasions, will also go on being used by many of us. A most grateful and very special thank-you is an absolute must for the gifted care-giving staff and volunteers at the Didsbury Nursing Home on Unit No. 3. They became Ken's world and his new family with their loving care and kindness during his years with this terrible disease. They shared in all his special occasions and were there for him when he needed them. He knew each and everyone by their voices and loved them dearly... Thank You!!
