DAVIS: Gordon Alfred "Smiley" Davis of Sprucewoods, MB, beloved husband of Betty, passed away at the Brandon Regional Health Centre, on Wednesday, January 10, 2007 at the age of 75 years. Alfred was born on October 14, 1931 at Shelburne, Nova Scotia. He spent his early years in Shelburne, working in the woodcutting industry before joining the military. After devoting 33.5 years to military service, he retired and worked for the Municipality of Cornwallis. Alfred was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Peacekeepers and Retired Gunners. He loved woodworking and spending time with his family. He is lovingly remembered by his wife Betty; sons: Ron, James, Donald, Clifford, Victor and Ernie; daughters: Shirley, Cheryl, Nancy and Patricia; brothers Gene and John; and many grandchildren
and great grandchildren. Alfred was predeceased by his parents James and Myrtle; sisters Fronnie and Dot; and brothers Victor and Robert. A time of visitation will be held at the Brockie Donovan Chapel, 332-8th Street, Brandon on Saturday, January 13, 2007 at 7:30 p.m. Funeral service will be held at St. Barbara’s Chapel, C.F.B. Shilo, on Monday, January 15, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. with Padre Ken Edel officiating. Active pallbearers will be: Ron, James, Donald, Clifford, Victor and Ernie Davis. Honorary pallbearers will be: John McCort, Tom Gibson, Brian Widdifield, Mick Battley, Brian Thompson and John Burgess. A time of fellowship will follow at the Sprucewoods Hall. The family gratefully declines flowers. DUNCAN: Mrs. Lillian Adella Duncan, beloved wife of the late James "Jim" Duncan, passed away at the Riverdale Personal Care Home, Rivers, MB, on Thursday, September 18, 2008 at the age of 89 years. Lillian was born on February 10, 1919 at Fisher Branch, MB. As a young girl, she lived in many places in Manitoba including Winnipeg where she met and married James Duncan. They moved to Lundar in 1951 and to Rivers in 1967. Lillian is survived by her daughters, Lorna (Lloyd), Karen (Harry), Robin and Sheila; her sons Bob, Cameron (Judy) and Gordon (Mavis); 32 grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; sister Gerry Cowles; and brother Elmond (Doris). She also leaves to mourn many nieces, nephews and friends. Lillian was predeceased by her husband Jim; son John; son-in-law Jack; parents Grace and Len Jenken; two sisters and two brothers. Lillian was a life member of the Rivers Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed many hobbies including baking, knitting, crafts and gardening. She also loved sports. Special thanks to the home care workers and staff at Riverdale Personal Care Home for their care of our Mom (Grandma). A Memorial Service will be held at the Rivers United Church, Rivers, MB on Monday, September 22, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Glenna Beauchamp officiating. Interment will follow in the Veterans’ Section of the Rivers Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Lillian may be made to a charity of choice.
DOUGLAS: Clinton Robert Douglas of Brandon, beloved husband of Jodi and dear father of Zoe, Noah and Kezia, passed away accidentally in Fort McMurray, Alberta on Tuesday, September 9, 2008 at the age of 36 years. Clint was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on April 26, 1972. His family moved north to Dawson City, Yukon where he started pre-school. He received most of his education in northern B.C. After graduating in Lynn Lake, Manitoba, his family moved to Brandon. Clint held various jobs and started work at Carnation Foods in Carberry in April 1993. While working there, he met Jodi Curtis and they married on July 26, 1997. Clint continued to work at "The Plant" until May of 2006. He then went west to Fort McMurray where he found work as a carpenter in training. During this time, he lived in camps and came home any chance he could to spend time with his family. Recently, he had changed his career choice to Power Engineering. Clint was very athletic and loved all sports. His favorites being golf, hockey and basketball. He enjoyed "kicking ass" in golf whether it was Playstation or the real thing. When the Detroit Red Wings played, Clint would call and make sure Noah knew - so he could watch the game too. During breaks or after a goal, they would call each other to discuss the game. (This was often long past Noah’s bedtime!!) Just recently, Clint gave Noah his collection of Red Wing figurines. Clint’s passion and best achievement was being Dad to Zoe, "his baby girl," age 10, Noah "his boy," age 8 and Kezia, "his princess," age 5. When each of the children were born, he took parental leave and during that time formed a strong and solid bond with each child. He missed them so much when he was working away but called every night (the longest phone call on record being eight hours to Jodi – a whole shift). Clint also loved chatting with his mom, Wendy (who affectionately called him "tintin"), and his sister, Michelle and her family. They all shared a very close relationship. Clint especially enjoyed a game of golf with Donny, Kyle and John whenever he came to town. This past summer, Zoe attended summer camp and was so surprised when Daddy came to pick her up and Kezia shared all the news of her first day of school on the phone with Daddy, just this past Monday. Clint is survived by his wife Jodi, children Zoe, Noah and Kezia, mother Wendy (John), sister Michelle (Donny), nephew Kyle, niece Karly and many other extended family members. He was predeceased by his father Robert. The Funeral Service will be held at Central United Church, 327-8th Street, Brandon, on Wednesday, September 17, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Shannon McCarthy officiating. Interment will follow at the Brandon Cemetery. A Memorial Service will also be held at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street, Winnipeg, on Friday, September 19, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. Donations in memory of Clint may be made to the Douglas Children Trust Fund, c/o the Westoba Credit Union, 3300 Victoria Avenue, Brandon, MB, R7B 0N2 or to any Branch of the Westoba Credit Union.

DUNCAN: Betty L. Duncan passed away June 27, 2008 at Brandon Regional Health Centre at the age of 72 years. She is survived by her mother Helen Duncan of Hamiota, MB; 2 brothers Fairley and David; sister-in-laws Shirley and Patricia. Also dear to Betty were her 3 nephews Steven, Adam and Jason and her Aunts and Uncles. A funeral service will be held on Monday, July 7, 2008 at 2:30 p.m. at Brockie Donovan Chapel, 332-8th Street, Brandon, (204-727-0694) with Rev. Jim Brown of St. George’s Anglican Church officiating. In lieu of flowers, it was Betty’s wish, if friends desire, donations could be made to the Manitoba Lung Association, 8-940 Princess Ave., Brandon, MB, R7A 0P6; Diabetes. DRYSDALE: Alice Drysdale (1913-2008) On Thursday, June 26, 2008 Alice Drysdale passed away peacefully in her sleep at West Park Manor Personal Care Home in Winnipeg. She will be lovingly remembered by her surviving family – her son, Barrie (Lorna) Drysdale, her daughter, Darla (Bob) Ireland, her sister Estella Brown, brothers Clarence Williamson & Art (Marie) Williamson, her sister-in-law Audrey Williamson, and brother-in-law Bill Addison, grandchildren Rob (Nancy) Drysdale, Shannon Drysdale (Joe Almedia), Tannis Drysdale (Owen Johnston), Sean (Chris) Ireland, Michael Ireland (Noriko Munekata), 7 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Alice was predeceased by Cameron, her husband of 57 years, and by her sisters Evelyn and Laura and her brothers John, Bill, Norman and Jim. The second of 10 children born to William and Gertrude Williamson, Alice spent most of her life in the Roseland District, southwest of Brandon. She attended Roseland School followed by high school at Brandon Collegiate and then Kemnay. In 1935, Alice married Cameron Drysdale and for the first three years of her marriage lived and farmed in the Newdale area. They returned to Roseland in 1938 to work and live at the Drysdale family farm. Always active in the community, Alice was an enthusiastic supporter of the local curling rink and the Roseland United Church. She served on the executive of the UCW, taught Sunday school, sang in the church choir and contributed much time and "home cooking" for local fundraising projects. Always keen on community interests, Alice spent several years as "local community" reporter for the Brandon Sun. Her favourite hobby was gardening – row upon row of gladiolas, other flowers and bountiful vegetables (not a weed in sight).Other hobbies included sewing, knitting and "scrap booking". She was a wonderful cook and took great pride in serving her guests. Upon retiring from active farming, Alice and Cameron spent their winters in Westlaco, Texas and spent much of their time during the summers at their cottage at Otter Lake. Two years after Cameron’s death, in 1994, Alice agreed to move to Winnipeg to be near her children living first at Lion’s Manor and eventually West Park Manor Personal Care Home. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 2, 2008 2:30 p.m. at Brockie Donovan Chapel, 332 8th Street, Brandon. A graveside service will follow at Rosewood Memorial Gardens. Officiating will be Reverend David Cathcart from Knox United Church.
DAVIES: Donna Lillian Davies (née Neabel), aged 72 years, passed away suddenly at her residence on Tuesday, June 10th, 2008. Born April 13th, 1936 in Minnedosa, she was the youngest daughter of Erle and Lillian Neabel. Her early years were spent on her parent's farm, south of Minnedosa in the Roseneath district where she attended school. After her marriage to Bill Davies on August 22nd, 1953, they resided on the Davies' farm north of Newdale, MB where they started their family. The family soon moved to Brandon where Donna worked a short period at McKenzie Seeds and later retired from the Housekeeping department at Canada Post. Predeceased by her loving husband Bill Davies on June 9th, 2003, Donna is survived by two sons: Don and his children Jennifer (Darcy) Dupuis, Tracy and Wendy: and her son Randy (Sharon) and their children Tara (Shaun) Macsymic and Steven. Also surviving are: brother David (Elpha) Neabel, sisters Marjory (Roy) Gardner and Shirley (Glen) Scott, sister-in-law Mabel Rose, brothers-in-law Lloyd (Susan) Davies, George (Nettie) Davies and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Donna's Faith and Life were Celebrated at Brockie Donovan on Saturday, June 14th, 2008 with Captain Bruce MacKenzie of the Salvation Army officiating. Interment followed in Rosewood Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers were: Doug Scott, Rick Scott, Garry Scott, Murray Davies and Doug Davies. Honorary pallbearers were: Terry Tomasiewicz, Sherri Van Beveren, Dean Sinclair, Bob Davies, Brian Neabel, Bradley Neabel, and all in attendance. Friends so wishing may make memorial donations to a charity of their choice.

DOBSON: Mr. Lloyd Harold Dobson passed away at his residence, Hillcrest Place Personal Care Home, on Tuesday, June 10, 2008 at the age of 84 years. Lloyd was born on July 1, 1923 in Fairfax, MB. He attended Fairfax School and married Veloria Irene Truscott in 1945. Their daughter, Norman Jean, was born in 1947. Lloyd farmed with his father until 1956 when the family relocated to Brandon, MB. He then worked for Frank Lawson & Sons as Service Manager for over 20 years, retiring in the late 1980’s. Both Veloria and Lloyd were avid hockey fans and long time supporters and ticket holders of the Brandon Wheat Kings. Lloyd had a keen interest in antique farm machinery and attended many Austin Thresherman’s Reunions. In later years, he enjoyed many hours socializing with his coffee friends at Humpty’s. Lloyd will always be remembered for his quick wit, love of watches, Ford cars and White Farm Equipment. Lloyd is survived by his daughter Norma (Dave) Abel, grandson Scott (Jennifer and great-grandchildren Olivia, Georgia and Finn Abel), granddaughter Tamara Abel, sister Kathleen (Kay) Sadler, brother-in-law Clifford (Dorothy) Truscott, sister-in-law Beryl Truscott and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Lloyd was predeceased by his wife Veloria Irene Dobson and by his father and mother, Fred and Hazel Dobson. The Memorial Service will be held at the Brockie Donovan Chapel, 332-8th Street, on Saturday, June 14, 2008 at 2:30 p.m. with Rev. Jim Brown of St. George’s Anglican Church officiating. Interment will follow at the Brandon Cemetery. Donations in memory of Lloyd may be made to the Canadian Diabetes. Association, 727B – 10th Street, Brandon, MB R7A 4G7. DAVIS: It is with profound sorrow that we announce that Gwen Davis, beloved mother to only daughter Kim and her husband Mitch Iwasiuk and grandma to Misheyla (Eric), Riley (Kaylene) and Cody, passed away on May 24, 2009 after a courageous year long battle with cancer, at the age of 65 years. Gwen felt exceptionally blessed to have one daughter, a son-in-law and three grandchildren that she loved more than life. She was involved in the lives of her family and never missed an occasion to attend anyone of their activities. She was especially proud of her grandchildren graduating and continuing their education at college and university. Gwen was the most kind and loving person who welcomed friends and neighbors into her world and cherished them all. Her cooking skills were exceptional and anyone who had the luck to share a meal, left her home with a care package of home-cooked food to be enjoyed the next day. She felt best when outside and at one with nature, and under her constant care and watchful eye grew the most amazing garden. The flowers flourished under her touch and gave pause to everyone to stop and take in a moment of peace and beauty. Her love of animals created and strengthened bonds with many members of the community who also shared her compassion for all of God’s creatures. Gwen’s wonderful sense of humour and generous spirit endeared her to many, with a wink and a smile, you knew you were blessed to be a part of her life. She never missed a party and celebrated life as a gift! Her more than 35 years at Reesor’s Jewellery expanded her world of friends and people always remembered her expertise and care when they purchased something special. Gwen will be missed as a wonderful friend, neighbor and co-worker, but most deeply as a mother and grandmother who left us far too soon. A Celebration of Gwen’s Life will be held at the Brockie Donovan Chapel, 332-8th Street, on Saturday, May 30, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Joe Ball officiating. Interment will follow at Rosewood Memorial Gardens.
