SCHIEVE - Herbert George Schieve, beloved husband of Mrs. Elaine Schieve, of Calgary, passed away at the Foothills Hospital, on Thursday, June 15, 2000, at the age of 61 years, six days after celebrating his birthday. He will be lovingly remembered by his family, Calvin (Lori), Karen (Gabe) Mohacsi, Brian (Jayll); three grandchildren, Candace, Alicia, Jayden. He is also survived by four brothers, Arnold, Ed, Ken, Don; and two sisters, Evelyn, Freida; and by many other family members, close friends and neighbours. SIMIOLI - Narciso Luigi Simioli, our beloved father and nonno passed away suddenly at home in Calgary, on June 16, 2000, at the age of 84 years. Nick was born in Final Di Rero in the province of Ferrara, Italy, on August 27, 1915. He was employed by The City of Calgary until his retirement in 1980. Nick loved to keep busy and was known to many friends as Nick the plumber. His door was open to everyone. His wonderful sense of humour kept everyone laughing while his stories of Italy kept us riveted. He was never without that special twinkle in his eye. We will fondly miss his laughter, generosity, strength and courage and most of all his love. We have lost a treasure. He will be forever missed by his loving children, Daniella (Dennis) Priebe, Theresa (Cecil) Taylor, Lily Simioli, Rita (Glenn) Kubik, David (Debbie) Simioli; twelve grandchildren, Corrina, Cindy, Lisa, Rachel, Stefanie, Kimberly, Maxine, Leanne, Heather, Russell, Chelsea, Jenelle; and three great-grandchildren, Bryan, Nicole and Amy. He was predeceased by his loving wife Ida in 1982, four brothers and five sisters. TEWNION - Fergus John Tewnion, born in Edmonton, died at home on Thursday, June 15, 2000 at the age of 40 years. Fergus will be remembered for his independent spirit, determination and zest for life. He was an active member and supporter of the British sports car community and owner of British Auto Specialists. Sharing his parents' love of the mountains, The Rockies have always held a special meaning for Fergus and his family. Fergus was a loving husband and father who will be dearly missed by his wife Karen and son Alexander; sister Alisoun-Jess (Peter) and their children, Emma and Iain; brother Angus (Laura); aunt Moira; uncle Sandy (Doreen); as well as a wide circle of caring friends and extended family. Fergus is predeceased by his parents, John and Margaret Tewnion. WARD - Benjamin Franklin "Frank" Ward passed away peacefully at his daughter's home in Langley, B.C. on June 11, 2000. Frank was the third-born son of Benjamin Vessey and Evelyn Verena Ward (nee Nesbitt, later Smith) on May 20, 1925 in Twining, Alberta. Frank married Grace Vaughan on May 31, 1947. Frank is survived by daughter Dyan Gayle (Jim) Andrews of Langley, BC; a son James Kenneth (Linda) of Calgary; and grandchildren, Jaime Leigh Andrews of Langley, Tom and Laura Clendening of Calgary. He is also survived by brothers, Walter (Kay) of Nanton, Thomas (Flo) of Fort Pierce, Florida; sisters, June (Frank) Kinney of Abbotsford, BC, Bonnie (Bill) Paling of Dundas, Ontario, Fran (Tony) Prettegiani of Calgary, Mary (Rod French) Stapleton of Calgary; sister-in-law Ellen Ward of Hornby Island, BC; and by numerous nieces and nephews. Frank was predeceased by his wife Grace on February 28, 2000 and an older brother Howard of Hornby Island, BC. Frank was trained as a wireless air gunner during the Second World War and served in the Reserves during the Korean War. He was still in the airforce when he met Grace. He went to SAIT after discharge and then joined Dominion Bridge where he learned the Steel Trade, advancing to Foreman. He was asked to help run a subsidiary, Union Iron, along with Jack Pereaux. They soon went out on their own and started Bonnybrook Steel in the early 1960's where they produced specialized forms for concrete. Some of the local projects they participated in were the Saddledome, Olympic Oval and Stampede Grandstand. They had projects from as far away as Ceylon. Frank retired in Bonnybrook in 1987 and spent his early retirement years travelling around Canada and the U.S. with Grace and his later years puttering in his garden and going to bingo. ARROL - Ian MacLachlan died peacefully in Victoria, BC, on June 16, 2000, age 76 years. Born in Vanderhoof, BC, on February 20, 1924. Predeceased by his brother Edward (1985) of Calgary, AB. Ian is survived by sisters, Ruth Peleshok of Oshawa, ON, and Elsie Moore of Cannington, ON. He was a radio announcer in the 1940's and 1950's with CFCN in Calgary and CBC in Vancouver. After graduation from the University of BC in 1959 and College of Education in 1960, Ian was a high school teacher in Vancouver, a reporter with the Daily Colonist in Victoria (1964-1966), a high school teacher in Scarborough, ON, the Member of Parliament for York East, ON (1972-1974) and provincially, president of the Don Mills P.C. Constituency Association (1975-1977). Prior to retirement in Victoria in 1986, he was a real estate sales representative in Metro Toronto with Royal Trust and Royal LePage. CASCADDEN - Thomas Cavan, beloved husband of Mrs. Dorothy Cascadden, passed away at the Foothills Hospital on Saturday, June 17, 2000 at the age of 87 years. He is survived by two sons, Jim (Margaret) Cascadden, Calgary and Bill of High River, Alberta; six grandchildren, Will (Joan) Cascadden, North Vancouver, B.C., Holly (Mark) Lawson and Heather (Mike) Layton, Selena, Roy and Katrina Cascadden, all of Calgary; four great-grandchildren; a sister Helen Service, King City, Oregon; and many nieces and nephews; his step-children, Gail and Gerry Grant, Mike and Sally Donally. Mr. Cascadden was predeceased by his first wife Isabelle on June 15, 1977, his twin brother Harley in 1927, his sisters, Kathleen Rowe and Grace Sykes. GRANDISON - Donald Joseph. December 1 , 1931 - June 16, 2000 We regret to announce that Donald Grandison passed away peacefully June 16, 2000 in Fort McMurray, AB following a brief illness. Don was predeceased by his son John in 1979, and his loving wife Marlene in 1996. He is survived by his three children, Judy (Robert) Lees of St. Albert, Allan (Sandy) Grandison, Tony (Maureen) Grandison, all of Ft. McMurray; his loving grandchildren, Rebecca Upton, Angela, Daniel, Joshua, Kyle and Nicolai Grandison; and his great-grandson Tyson. In addition, Don leaves to mourn, his three surviving sisters, Maureen Silver of Elk Grove, California, Lorraine Tame of Brandon, MB, Leeann McLeod of Calgary; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. While Don enjoyed all his employment experience throughout his work life, none provided him with as much joy and pleasure as his years of employment with The Calgary Public Library. It was here, that Don made some of his most meaningful friendships. HINGER - Victor John, loving husband, father and grandfather, tradesman, businessman, musician, mentor and motivator passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by family members on June 18, 2000, at the age of 64 years after a courageous battle with cancer. Victor was born on May 5, 1936 in Goodsoil, Sask., eldest son of Carl Hinger and Annie Degenhardt. He is predeceased by his parents and his sister Agnes. Victor (Vic) is survived by his wife of forty-three years, Madalin; his son Reynold (Susan) and granddaughter Kara Hinger; his daughter Patty (Richard Johansen) and grandsons Craig and Robbie Johansen; his son Robert (Shirley) and grandchildren, Sharleen, Melinda and Jordan Hinger; his daughter Cindy (Barry Hilton) and grandsons, Chris and Stephen Hilton; and his daughter Marie and grandchildren Corrine, Candice and James Lang. JOHNSON - Mr. Roy Harold Johnson, beloved husband of the late Pearl Johnson, passed away on June 16, 2000 at the age of 79. He is the beloved father of Marlin (Anita), Lynn (Terry), Ross, Terry (Trish) and Carol (Derrick); and five grandchildren, Zak, Tiffany, Travis, Dylan and Mason. Harold was predeceased by his sister Alice Gardner and his brothers Arthur, Walter and Milton Johnson. He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Harold was born September 30, 1920, raised in the Delacour area and attended SAIT. On December 3, 1941 Harold enlisted in the RCAF, which took him to postings in North Sydney, NS, Goose Bay, Labrador, Vancouver, Tofino and Marble Island, BC, during which time he attained the rank of Sergeant. Upon his discharge, Harold promptly went to work as a diesel mechanic for Union Tractor where he met his wife Pearl. They married in 1951 and enjoyed thirty-two plus years of harmonious marriage until Pearl's passing in 1984. In 1974, Harold opened his own business 'Machine Service' from which he retired in 1986. He enjoyed working with his hands and mind, building/fixing things, took pride in being Canadian, cherished his friendships old and new and loved to be surrounded by family. He will be dearly missed.
