William "Bill" Allan Steen
1915-2009
At his residence at Breadalbane NB on December 19, 2009, Mr. William “Bill” Allan Steen, husband of the late Blanche M. (Wilcox) Steen. Born at Methuen MA on July 14, 1915, he was a son of the late Charles and Mary E. (Cordingly) Steen. A loving father and grandfather, he is survived by one son, Russell (Olive) Steen of Breadalbane NB, one daughter, Sheila (David) McCourt of Scarbourough ON, three grandchildren; Patrick McCourt of North Bay ON, Julie (Colin) Morrison of Scarborough ON and Diane (Randy) Madenly of Bolton ON and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his wife, Blanche, he was predeceased by two brothers, Francis and Charlie and by two sisters, Anne Armstrong and Florence Kernighan.
Bill was a veteran of the Second World War where he served with the Service Corps in England. He was an avid musician who loved to play the Harmonica and was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing. He was a member of the St. George Baptist Church.
Resting at the St. George Funeral Home & Crematorium (755-3533) 26 Portage Street, St. George NB from where the service will be held from the Gary E. Waycott Memorial Chapel on Tuesday at 2 pm with Rev. Darren Millett officiating. The interment will take place at the Pennfield Rural Cemetery in the spring. Visiting at the funeral home will be held on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. In Bill’s memory, donations to the Canadian Diabetes. Association or to a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.

Doris M. Kernighan
1913-2009
Peacefully at The Fundy Nursing Home, Blacks Harbour NB on December 8, 2009, Mrs. Doris M. (Stewart)(Morrison) Kernighan, wife of the late Robert “Bob” Kernighan formerly of St. George NB went home to be with her Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Born at Rothesay NB on June 22, 1913, she was born a daughter of the late Henry and Ethel (Fawcett) Stewart and adopted daughter of Mark and Ella (Leslie) Morrison. A loving mother and grandmother she is survived by two sons; Alvin Kernighan and Sidney (Karen) Kernighan both of St. George NB, three grandchildren; Allison Kernighan of St. George, Cara (Adam) Hatt of Blacks Harbour NB and Debbie Kernighan of St. George, great grandchildren; Abby Kernighan and soon to be expected Baby Hatt and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her husband Bob, she was predeceased by brothers; Sidney and Stanley Stewart and Jim Morrison, and sisters; Hilda Stewart, Ethel Holt and Ella Tatton. Doris was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Doris was a long time and active member of the St. George Baptist Chruch where she taught Sunday School for more the 50 years and was a member of the Women’s Missionary Society. She loved to knit and enjoyed piling wood in her home. Doris was a very hard worker who, along with her late husband Bob, was very active on the St. George Rural Cemetery Board and could often be found working in and around the cemetery.
Resting at the St. George Baptist Church, St. George NB from where the service will be held on Thursday at 2 pm with Rev. Darren Millett officiating followed by interment at the St. George Rural Cemetery. Visiting at the church will be held on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm and on Thursday from 10 am until Noon. In Doris’ memory, donations to a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family. The family would like to send a special thanks to the staff of the Fundy Nursing Home for their kind and compassionate care of their mom during her time there. Gladys "Myrtle" Young
1920-2009
Peacefully at the Passamaquoddy Lodge, St. Andrews NB on December 2, 2009, Mrs. Gladys “Myrtle” (Boyce) Young, wife of the late Stanford G. Young formerly of Leonardville NB. Born at Montreal PQ on February 20, 1920, she was a daughter of the late William J. and Mary Ellen (Davidson) Boyce. A loving mother and grandmother, she is survived by four daughters; Sandra (Richard) Fiander of Bocabec, Paula (John) Gilman of Lambertville NB, Velma (Stanley) Lord of Lambert’s Cove NB and Brenda (Colin) Mitchell of Stuart Town NB, seven grandchildren; Andrew Lord (Stephanie Stewart), Betsy (Jay) Jones, Tony Gilman (Katie Brennan), Leanne Silvaggio, Shawn Lord (Sabrina), Jodi and Gavin Mitchell, seven great grandchildren; Ryan, Isabella, Julianna, Kiera, Keaton, Payton and Taylor and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her husband Stanford, she wad predeceased by her first husband, Gaston St. Denis, one brother, William Boyce and by one sister, Dorothy Boyce.
Myrtle was a member of the Leonardville Women’s Institute. She loved to sew and operated a sewing and seamstress business on Deer Island until her retirement. She enjoyed spending her free time at home and at her cottage at Birney Lake.
Resting at the Leonardville Church of Christ, Leonardville NB, with visiting held on Friday from 1-3 pm. A graveside service will be held on Saturday at 1 pm at the Fairhaven Community Cemetery at Calder’s Head NB with Rev. Mary Ann Langmaid officiating. In Myrtle’s memory, donations to the Leonardville Church of Christ or to a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family. Margaret Miles
1919-2010
Peacefully at the Saint John Regional Hospital, Saint John NB on August 16, 2010, Mrs. Margaret (Wadman) Miles, wife of the late Mr. Enos Miles of Utopia NB. Born at Glace Bay NS on July 20, 1919, she was a daughter of the late Richard and Mary Ann (Moore) Wadman. A loving mother and grandmother, she is survived by two sons; Enos & Brenda Miles of Saint John NB and Val & Hazel Miles of Utopia, one daughter, Lillian & Burton Hall of Utopia, her grandchildren; Jeff & Stella Miles, Donna & Brian McCullum, Valarie & Ricky Vienneau, Michele & John O’Neill, Shauna & Justin Fudge, Monica & Andrew Broome, Jason Hall & Mellissa Frierson and Kalvin & Carrie Hall, her great grandchildren; Crystal, Ryan, Brent, Jennifer, Craig, Trevor, Tara, Jeremy, Emily, Haley, Chloe, Matthew, Maddison, Michaela, Tamreeka, Matia, Salantra and Ronald, one great great grandchild, Cameron and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her loving husband, Enos, she was predeceased by her brothers and sisters. Margaret was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Prior to her retirement, Margaret worked for Connor’s Bros. She kept very active after retirement and enjoyed cooking, knitting, bowling, Bingo, playing a hand of Cribbage and having conversations on the phone. She was a member of the OES Granite Chapter #15, St. George NB, Harbour View Seniors, Eastern Charlotte Association for Community Living and Christ Church (Anglican) where she served as a member of the choir for 20 years. Margaret loved her friends and family and especially enjoyed her grandchildren. She will be missed by everyone who knew her.
Resting at Christ Church (Anglican), Pennfield NB, from where the service will be held on Thursday at 2 pm with Rev. Canon Keith Osborne officiating, followed by interment at the church cemetery. Visiting at the church will take place on Tuesday from 7-9 pm and on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. An OES Tribute Service will be held at the church on Wednesday at 7 pm. In Margaret’s memory, donations to the Christ Church (Anglican) or to the Charlotte County Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family. Evans Joseph Maillet Sr.
1927-2010
Peacefully at the Charlotte County Hospital, St. Stephen NB on August 19, 2010, Mr. Evans Joseph Maillet Sr., husband of Mrs. Yvette Mary (Ferguson) Maillet of Blacks Harbour NB. Born at Saint-Louis-de-Kent NB on May 16, 1927, he was a son of the late Anthony and Phoebe (Chevarie) Maillet. A loving husband, father, grandfather and brother, in addition to his loving wife, Yvette, he is survived by three sons; Evans Jr. (Trudi) Maillet of Pennfield NB, Alex (Sally) Maillet of Utopia NB and David Maillet of Beaver Harbour NB, five daughters; Mary (Keith) Wobma of St. Andrews NB, Rita Leavitt of Utopia, Helen Maillet of St. Andrews, Emma Maillet (Dean Leblanc) of Elmsville NB and Elaine (Randall) Buchanan of St. Andrews, numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren, six sisters; Roseamy, Yvonne, Irene, Orise, Freda and Marie, many brothers and sisters in law and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents, Evans was predeceased by three brothers; Arthur, Joseph and Edward and by one sister, Alice.
Prior to his retirement, Evans worked for Connors Bros. at Blacks Harbour. In his quiet time, he enjoyed watching Golf and Curling and could sometimes be found playing his deer hunter game. He had a passion for music and loved to play the mouth organ. He especially enjoyed when his family came together and joined in song. His warm smile and laugh will be missed by many.
As per Evans’ request there will be no visitation. A Memorial Mass will be held from the Stella Maris Roman Catholic Church, Blacks Harbour NB on Saturday at 11:00 am with Father Brian Wetmore officiating, followed by interment at the parish cemetery. In Evan’s memory donations to a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family. James Burton Hunter
1937-2010
James “Jim” Burton Hunter of Beaver Harbour, N.B., passed away peacefully at the Saint John Regional Hospital, Saint John, N.B., on Friday, August 20, 2010. Born in Pennfield, N.B., Jim was predeceased by his parents Keith and Carrie (Akerley) Hunter, his grandparents, Robert “Bob” and Evelyn (Justason) McDowell and by a sister Betty. He is survived and will be sadly missed by his one daughter, Darlene Frances of Beaver Harbour, N.B. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins. Jim was a weir fisherman and a labour worker by trade. In his younger years his passion was hunting and fishing.
By request, there will be no visitation or funeral service. Cremation has taken place and the interment will be held at a later date. If friends so desire, donations can be made in memory of Jim to the charity of one’s choice. Arrangements are under the care and direction of St. George Funeral Home & Crematorium (755-3533) 26 Portage Street, St. George NB

Charles Melvin Neathway
1920-2010
Peacefully at the Saint John Regional Hospital, Saint John NB on August 21, 2010, Mr. Charles Melvin Neathway, husband of Mrs. Eunice M. (Mahar) Neathway of Blacks Harbour NB. Born at Pennfield NB on December 26, 1920, he was the son of the late William A. and Jennie Belle (Bryant) Neathway. A loving husband, father and grandfather, in addition to his wife Eunice, he is survived by five sons; Charles (Mary) Neathway of Vavenby BC, Ronnie (Laurie) Neathway of Bethel NB, Jeff Neathway of Kamloops BC, David Neathway (Marilyn Hawkins) of L’Etang NB and Philip (Jeannie) Neathway of Miramachi NB, three daughters; Mary (Charles) Giddens of St. Stephen NB, Margaret (Bryan) Butler of Chatham NB and Judy (Teddy) Vail of St. George NB, 12 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by two grandchildren, David Butler and Charles Giddens Jr and by two great grandchildren; Kaylum and Jacob.
Prior to his retirement, Charles worked for Connors Bros. in Blacks Harbour NB for over 40 years as a Foreman and Sealing Machine Technician. He enjoyed woodworking, painting and doing small engine repairs for his friends and neighbours. Charles was a veteran of the Second World War having served overseas from 1939 until 1945 as a Gunner with the 105th Anti-Tank Battalion of the 8th Hussars, seeing action in North Africa, Italy, Holland, France and England. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 40, Blacks Harbour. He will be sadly missed by all his friends and family.
Resting at the St. George Funeral Home & Crematorium (755-3533) 26 Portage Street, St. George NB from where the service will be held from the Gary E. Waycott Memorial Chapel on Wednesday at 2 pm followed by the interment at the St. George Rural Cemetery. Visiting at the funeral home will take place on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A Royal Canadian Legion Tribute Service will take place at the funeral home on Tuesday at 2 pm. In Charles’ memory, donations to the NB Kidney Foundation or to a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
