Marshall Peter Hill
1912-2009
At the Fundy Nursing Home, Blacks Harbour NB on May 23rd, 2009, Mr. Marshall Peter Hill. Born at Blacks Harbour on June 27, 1912, he was a son of the late John and Effie (Wickerson) Hill. A loving brother, he is survived by one sister, May Alice Tait of Merrit Isle FL. In addition to his parents, John and Effie, he was predeceased by two brothers; Joseph and John (Jack) and by three sisters; Cecilia Wickerson, Julia Ferris and Margaret Gerarda.
Prior to his retirement Marshall worked for Connors Brothers at Blacks Harbour as a carpenter for many years. He was a private and tangible person who was always around town and held a wealth of knowledge. Marshall was a veteran of World War II serving with the Corps of Engineers 10th Battalion, seeing service in England, France, Holland, Belgium and Germany. He was a member of the Stella Maris Roman Catholic Church, Blacks Harbour NB.
Resting at the St. George Funeral Home & Crematorium (755-3533) 26 Portage Street, St. George NB with visiting on Monday from 7-9 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from the Stella Maris Roman Catholic Church, Blacks Harbour NB on Tuesday at 11:00 am followed by interment at the church cemetery. In Marshall’s memory donations to the Alzheimer’s Society, The Stella Maris Roman Catholic Church Building Fund or to a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
Alice "Mildred" Gowan-Landry
1922-2009
Peacefully at the Charlotte County Hospital, St. Stephen NB on May 31, 2009, Mrs. Alice “Mildred” (Harmon) Gowan-Landry, wife of Mr. Frederick “Ned” Landry of St. George NB and the late Thomas A. Gowan. Born at Digdeguash NB on December 15, 1922, she was a daughter of the late Henry E. and Lila A. (Thomas) Harmon. A loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister, in addition to her husband Ned, she is survived by one son, Clifford (Elaine) Gowan of Old Ridge NB, two daughters; Rosaline (Bill) Stewart of Bocabec NB and Carol Gowan (Dave Williams) of Fredericton NB, 11 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren, stepchildren; Patricia Oland, Carol (Douglas) Brooks, Frederick (Rita) Landry, Rose (Robert) Mellor, Donald (Rose) Landry and Dale (Wilfred) Doucett all of Saint John NB, two brothers; Leo (Janet) Harmon of St. Andrews NB and Pearson Harmon of Bocabec, three sisters; Marion McAleenan of St Goerge, Hazel (Fred) Rossi of British Columbia and Bessie Holland of Saint John NB and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her first husband Thomas, she was predeceased by one son, Larry Gowan, brothers; Henry, Fred and Edward and sisters; Nellie Borthwick, Freda Young and Helen Gowan.
Mildred was an active member of the Bocabec United Church. She was a wonderful cook who loved knitting and being outside in the garden. For many years, she worked as a cook and housekeeper for General and Mrs. James Van Fleet.
Resting at the St. George Funeral Home & Crematorium (755-3533) 26 Portage Street, St. George NB from where the service will be held on Tuesday at 1:00 pm from the Gary E Waycott Memorial Chapel with Rev. Dr. Andrew McNeill officiating followed by interment at the Bocabec Community Cemetery. Visiting at the funeral home on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. In Mildred’s memory, donations to the Bocabec United Church or to a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
Arne Alden Theriault
1932-2009
At the Saint John Regional Hospital, Saint John NB on June 2, 2009 following a lengthy illness, Mr. Arne Alden Theriault, husband of Barbara Ann (McCarthy) Theriault of Fairhaven NB. Born at Deer Island on January 18, 1932 he was a son of the late Meriton Richter and Alma Mae (Calder) Theriault. A loving husband, father, grandfather and brother, in addition to his wife Barbara Ann he is survived by one daughter, Krista (Oliver) Cull of Fairhaven NB, special granddaughter, Tanesha Lindi of Fairhaven NB, two sisters; Evangeline Allen of St. George NB and Lillian Olsson of Calais ME, one sister in law, Janet Theriault of Bayside NB and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Arne was predeceased by one brother, Russell Theriault and by one sister, Melda Bowmaster.
Prior to his retirement, Arne worked for the HW Welch Co. a Division of Connor's Bros., where he held many positions including working on various boats, scaling, hauling freight and was Plant Manager for over 30 years. Arne served on the Fisherman’s Loan Board. In his retirement he was an avid gardener who enjoyed spending all his free time with his special granddaughter.
A time of visitation with the family will be held at Arne's home at 1 Calders Head Road, Fairhaven NB during the afternoon and evening on Thursday. Friends are invited to attend a graveside service on Friday at 2 pm at the Fairhaven Community Cemetery

Frank Eugene Leavitt
1928-2009
At the Saint John Regional Hospital, Saint John NB on June 17, 2009 Mr. Frank Eugene Leavitt, husband of Mavis M. (Johnson) Leavitt of Beaver Harbour NB. Born at Blacks Harbour NB on March 23, 1928 he was a son of the late Wesley Sr. and Mildred (Bradford) Leavitt. A loving husband, father, grandfather and brother, in addition to his wife Mavis he is survived, by three sons; Terry (Pam) Leavitt of Utopia NB, David (Janet) Leavitt of Labrador and Kevin (Shari) Leavitt of Chilliwack BC, eight grandchildren; Shelly, Stacey, Terri-Anne, Stephanie, Shannon, Sean, Ryan and Lesley, 14 great grandchildren, four brothers; Wesley Leavitt of Blacks Harbour NB, Keith (Alice) Leavitt and Herbert (Rose Dickerson) both of St. George NB and Vance Leavitt of Pennfield NB and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, Frank was predeceased by five sisters; Norma Brown, Joyce Hanson, Mildred Parks, Doris and Evelyn Leavitt.
Prior to his retirement, Frank worked as a Correctional Officer and Group Worker for the Province of New Brunswick. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed going on hunting trips and fishing. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion in Marysville NB.

The service will be held from the Beaver Harbour Baptist Church on Saturday at 2:00 pm with Rev. Bruce Alcorn and Rev. Fred Bradford officiating followed by interment at the Pennfield Rural Cemetery. In Frank’s memory donations to the Beaver Harbour Baptist Church or to a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
Stephen Blaine Hill
1967-2009
Unexpectedly at Charlotte County Hospital, St. Stephen NB on June 19, 2009, Mr. Stephen Blaine Hill of Blacks Harbour NB. Born at Blacks Harbour NB on September 12, 1967, he was a son of Mr. Frank and Isabel (Stevens) Hill. A loving son, brother, nephew and friend to many, in addition to his parents, Frank and Isabel, he is survived by four brothers; Robert (Helen) Hill of Blacks Harbour NB, Danny (Lori) Hill and David (Susan) Hill both of Pennfield NB and Gerald Hill of Campbellton NB, one sister, Krista (Terry) Martin of Canal NB, special great niece, Emily Hill, great nephew, Isaac Chevarie and one Godchild, Chloe, and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Stephen was predeceased by one sister, Faith Marie.
When not working as a fisherman, in his spare time Stephen enjoyed being at his camp on Chicken Island. He was an avid outdoorsman who liked to fish and be in the wilderness. Known as the neat freak in his family he was always available to help out anyone in need and he loved his mother more then words can describe. He will be missed by all his family and the many friends he made along the way.

Visiting at the church will be held on Sunday from 3-5 and 7-9 pm. Gretl Cuthbertson
1922-2009
Gretl Cuthbertson (nee Bohnstingl) passed away in the early morning of June 23, 2009. Austrian born, she and her late husband George Cuthbertson, raised her family first in England, then Scotland followed by an immigration to Montreal in 1959. There they built a family home in Fitch Bay PQ. She spent her last fourteen years in Bocabec where she fell in love with New Brunswick. She made a masterpiece of her gardens and lived quietly in the woods with her dogs. She is survived by her four children; George, Lorna, Erika and Leslie, nine grandchildren, and two and a half great grandchildren who will all miss her dearly. A quiet memorial is planned at her residence of 124 Paradox Point Road, Bocabec NB on Saturday at 3:00 pm.

Eda "Blanche" Maxwell
1918-2009
At the Charlotte County Hospital, St. Stephen, NB on July 30, 2009, Mrs. Eda "Blanche" (Spear) Maxwell, wife of the late Ross E. Maxwell of Canal NB. Born at Lepreau NB on November 9, 1918, she was a daughter of the late Randall and Rhee (Akerley) Spear. A loving mother, grandmother, and sister, she is survived by one daughter, Dawn (David) Daigle of Canal, two granddaughters; Gale Stanton of Blacks Harbour, NB and Naomi (Sylvain) Côté of Lawrence Station NB, great granddaughters; Kaitilin Stanton of Blacks Harbour NB and Gabrielle Côté of Lawernace Station NB, one sister, Gertrude (Arthur) Boyne of Lepreau, two step grandsons; Joey Daigle of Bocabec, NB and Cameron Daigle of Blacks Harbour NB and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Blanche was the last surviving member of her immediate family. In addition to her husband Ross, she was predeceased by brothers, Harry Spear and Ronald Spear and by one sister, Evelyn Clark.
Prior to her retirement, Blanche worked for Connors Bros. as a packer for 40 years. She enjoyed cooking, reading, knitting and keeping her journals up to date. She was a faithful Christian who was the center of her family and was a very loyal wife to Ross. She was very fond of her community and her local neighbours. She will be sadly missed by her family and many friends.
