MACKENZIE - William Campbell Born September 28, 1926. Passed away May 9, 2000. Bill will be lovingly remembered by his three daughters, Laurie (Ken), Jodie (Scott) Blasken of Calgary, and Leanne Mackenzie of Mountain View, California; his grandsons, Jameson Blasken and Stuart and Joey; his sister Morie Hall and her children, Glenn and Kelly of Wenatchee, Washington; and his friend Vivienne Douglas. Bill was born in Fort Macleod and as a child lived in various towns in Alberta following his bank manager father. He spent his high school years in Warner, Alberta. He moved to Calgary in 1945 to attend SAIT (Alberta College of Art). He was an accomplished artist. Besides his passion for golf and hockey, Bill loved to dance. He was a member of the Calgary Jazz Society and especially liked Dixieland and the Big Band Era. Bill was employed by Home Oil for thirty-four years until his retirement in 1986. A Celebration of Bill's Life will be held in the Chapel of MOUNTAIN VIEW FUNERAL HOME on Friday, May 12, 2000 at 1:00 p.m. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be sent directly to the Alberta Lung Association, 302, 609 - 14 Street N.W., Calgary, T2N 2A1. McDONALD - George McDonald, beloved husband of Mrs. Gertrude McDonald of Calgary, passed away at the Foothills Hospital on May 8, 2000, at the age of 84 years. George was born on April 3, 1916, in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He volunteered for military service in 1941 and worked for Air Canada for thirty-two years. Besides his loving wife, George is survived by two sons and one daughter-in-law, Michael McDonald of Vancouver, BC, and Tim and Debbie McDonald of Calgary; and a daughter and son-in-law, Sheila and Jack Shipley of Ayr, ON. He is also survived by a sister Margaret Gorrell of Winnipeg, MB; as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY'S "Park Memorial Chapel" (5008 Elbow Drive S.W.), today, May 11, 2000, at 1:00 p.m. with the Rev. McLEOD - Beatrice "Bea" (nee Hester) passed away peacefully at Whitehorse General Hospital, May 8, 2000, at age 79, after a lengthy illness. Born in Calgary, June 3, 1920, Bea moved to Whitehorse in 1953. Bea is survived by her loving husband George; one son Grant William of Cranbrook, B.C. Cremation. At Bea's request, no Service will be held. Donations, in memory, may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.

McNEILL - Neil Gordon McNeill of Strathmore, AB, passed away after a long illness at the Foothills Hospital on May 9, 2000. Neil was born on December 2, 1934 in Empress, AB, and is the youngest son of Neil and Lillian McNeill. Moved to Calgary in 1948 and attended school there. He worked with his own trucking company until joining The City of Calgary in 1967 as a heavy equipment operator for the Plant and Engineering until his retirement in 1993. Neil was married in Calgary in 1959, then moved to Strathmore in 1972. He is survived by his wife Verna (Hoover), Strathmore; his son Brent (Chris), Strathmore; his daughter Terry (Todd) Drake, Calgary; sister Helen (Howard) Hoover, Delia; as well as many nieces and nephews. Neil was predeceased by his father Neil in 1970, his mother Lillian in 1992, and a brother Don in 1992. He will be sadly missed by his family, friends and his constant devoted companion Sam. MURPHY - Mabel Margaret Murphy (nee Evans) of Calgary, passed away peacefully at the Rockyview Hospital on Sunday, May 7, 2000, after a short illness at the age of 90 years, a week prior to celebrating her 91st birthday. Mabel was born in Agra, India, on May 13, 1909. She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Mabel will be sadly missed by her son John Bede of Calgary; four grandchildren, Victor Bede and Hazel (Ronan) Quigley, all of London, England, Dr. Jacqueline Bede (Jeff Griese) of Toronto and Robert Bede of Calgary; three great-grandchildren, Grace and Aidan Quigley and Spencer Griese; a brother Dr. Alex (Jean) Evans; as well as nieces and nephews in England. She was predeceased by her younger son Arnold (Tony) Bede. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Anthony's Catholic Church (5340 - 4 Street S.W.), on Friday, May 12, 2000 at 1:00 p.m. with the Rev. OLSON - Mrs. Irna Karen Olson, beloved wife of Mr. Garry Olson of Calgary, passed away at the Foothills Hospital on Tuesday, May 9, 2000, at the age of 62 years. Karen was born on July 9, 1937 in Calgary. She jointly owned and operated the Valley G.M. in Invermere, B.C., for many years. During her years in Invermere, she was well thought of by those who knew her. Karen moved to Calgary in the early 1980's, later marrying Garry in 1997; together they enjoyed vacationing. She will be sorely missed by all. Besides her loving husband, Karen is survived by three sons and two daughters, Mickey of Invermere, B.C., Trent of Vancouver, Terry of Calgary, Shari and Rudy Ruault of Invermere, B.C., Laurie and Mike Lix of Calgary; six grandchildren, Vaughn, Brandi, Brennan, Taylor, Lisa and Christopher. She is also survived by her mother Irna and Reg Merslack of Calgary, brother and sister-in-law, Hugh and Sherry McKinnon of Okotoks. Karen was predeceased by her father Hugh McKinnon and brother Dereck McKinnon. PELLY - Shane Pelly passed away on May 3, 2000 at the age of 30 years. Shane was born on August 23, 1969 in Maple Ridge, B.C. His greatest passion was his two Harley Davidson motorcycles. Throughout his life, Shane was always a giving, caring and very generous person. His greatest accomplishment in life was his son Dylan and his stepdaughter Alana. Shane was a "good" son to his mother and she was always proud of him. Shane will be lovingly remembered by all who knew him. Shane is survived by his mother Zena and her husband Larry McKinley; his adoptive father Gordon Pelly and birth father Ken Walper; a sister Michelle Pelly; and a brother Geoff Pelly. He is also survived by his special Aunt Jacqui and Uncle Bert Wolffe; a niece Megan; and nephews, Justin, Jordan, Chris and Isaiah; as well as numerous other relatives and friends. PONTIFEX - Alfred Trevor passed away at the Drumheller Hospital on May 8, 2000. He was born at Trenville, Alberta, on July 13, 1910, and moved to the Morrin area with his family where he farmed until 1975. Alf moved to Calgary where he resided until his move back to Drumheller last year. He will be sadly missed by his beloved wife Beatrice (Betty); two sisters, Ellen Steward of Drumheller, Jessie Brown of Parksville and her family, Mary, Jack, Bruce; sister-in-law Gladys Pontifex of Drumheller; two special nephews, Donald Pontifex of Morrin, Gordon Pontifex of Drumheller. Alf was predeceased by his brother Walter in 1994. A Service of Committal will be held Friday, May 12, 2000, at 11:00 a.m. from the Queen's Park Cemetery, 32 Avenue and 4 Street N.W., Calgary. Service of Remembrance will be held Friday, May 12, 2000 at 3:30 p.m. from the Morrin Community Hall (Morrin, Alberta). SCHMIDT - It is with deep sorrow and sadness that we announce the passing of our loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather Claude Schmidt of Calgary, formerly of Innisfail, who passed away peacefully at the age of 80 years, on May 9, 2000. Claude is survived by his loving wife, Alice; two sons, Rodney (Michele) Schmidt of Red Deer and Randall (Susan) Schmidt of Kamloops, BC; son-in-law Jim Chmilar of Calgary; grandchildren, Stacey, Sandy, Christine and Rachelle; and great-grandchildren, Veronica, Alicia and Emily. He is also survived by two brothers, Les (Marg) Schmidt and Donald (Marg) Schmidt; two sisters, Vina (Ralph) Fike and Alpha Walroth; and many nieces, nephews and friends. Claude was predeceased by his son Wayne in 1948, daughter Rosanna Chmilar in 1996, brother John and sisters, Dorothy, Lillian, Ruth, Alda and Florence. Claude was born April 1, 1920 at Markerville, Alberta. He was an employee of the C.P.R. for thirty-two years. Claude and Alice were married for fifty-three years. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Ogden Branch No. 154. SMITH - (nee Joel) Doreen Edna Smith passed away peacefully at the age of 82 years, surrounded by her loving family. She will be missed by her husband Frank; three sons and four daughters, Carol Gilbertson, Harvey (Doreen) Smith, Doug (Sandy) Smith, Barb (Larry) Deeg, Edwin Smith, Brenda (John) Flowers, and Evelyn Smith; one sister Evelyn Kimmett and one sister-in-law Elaine Joel of Red Deer; grandchildren, Don, Christine (Cory), Dale, Wendy, Trevor (Andrea), Chad, Shannon, Rob, Ryan, Kelsey, Craig, and Amber; great-grandchildren, Dylan, Meghan and Kaitlin. Doreen was predeceased by a son Marvin Joel Smith in 1982 and a grandson Stephen Gilbertson in 1989. Born at High River, Alberta, on January 10, 1918, Doreen was an active member of the Royal Canadian Legion Ladies Auxiliary Branch No. 10 for over fifty years, enjoying darts and bingo. Weekend card parties with her family and friends were a joy to her as well as golf trips south of the border. AEBIG - Sharon Lynn Aebig (nee Himmelspeck), beloved wife of Barry Aebig of Calgary, and loving mother of Natasha and Leslie, passed away on June 15, 2000, after a courageous battle with cancer. She is also survived by her sisters, Barb and friend Wally of Red Water, AB, Carol (Jim) of Estevan, Sask., Linda and friend Moe of Estevan; her brothers, Albert (Mary Ann) of Bashaw, AB, Ralph (Darlene) of Estevan, Sask., Richard of Burnaby, BC, Gerald (Marilyn) of Calgary, AB, Kenny and friend Zena of Lampman, Sask., Kelly (Doris) of Airdrie, AB, and Russell (Cora) of Estevan, Sask.; her mother and father-in-law, Glen and Vera Aebig of Sylvan Lake, AB; sister-in-law Carla of Calgary, AB; brother-in-law Greg (Charlene) of Calgary, AB; eleven aunts, seven uncles and twenty-nine nieces and nephews. Sharon was predeceased by her mother Ghana in 1973, her father Antoine in 1998 and brothers, Gary in 1995 and Larry in 1997. Sharon was born in Lampman, Sask. on May 29, 1960. She moved to Calgary in 1978 where she met Barry and they were married October 6, 1979. Sharon enjoyed all aspects of her homemaking, camping and above all, loved her family and many friends. For the last few years, she was employed by Loomis Courier. She enjoyed her working relationship at Loomis and especially the new friends she made there. The family would like to extend their appreciation to all those involved in Sharon's care.
