Doris Irene Nason
1932-2009
Unexpectedly, at the Saint John Regional Hospital, Saint John NB on February 17th, 2009, Mrs. Doris Irene (McGarrigle) Nason, wife of the late Mr. Ronald Nason of St. George NB. Born at Blacks Harbour NB on February 8, 1932, she was a daughter of the late James and Seretha (Leavitt) McGarrigle. A loving mother, grandmother and sister, Doris is survived by two sons; Robert (Ellen) Nason of Saint John NB and Samuel Nason of St. George, one daughter, Irene Howe of Saint John, five grandchildren, Patrick (Tracy) Howe of Sussex NB, Michael Howe of Bloomfield NB, Robert William Nason, Kristina Nason and Ryan Nason all of Saint John, three great grandchildren, Makhia, Zackery and Joshua, two sisters; Emma Maillet and Florence Leavitt both of Blacks Harbour, three brothers; Gerald McGarrigle and Kenny (Juanita) McGarrigle both of Blacks Harbour and Wesley (Pam) McGarrigle of St. Stephen NB, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her husband Ronald, she was predeceased by two sisters; Linda Matheson and Mary McGarrigle and four brothers, Lorne, Jimmy, Bill and Everett.
Doris was an avid soap opera fan who enjoyed watching television. She loved country music and adored her cats.
Resting at the St. George Funeral Home & Crematorium (755-3553) 26 Portage Street, St. George NB from where the service will be held from the Gary E Waycott Memorial Chapel on Friday at 2:00 pm with Rev. Canon Howard Anningson officiating.. The interment will be held at the St. George Rural Cemetery
in the spring. Visiting at the funeral home will take place on Wednesday from 7-9 pm and on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. In Doris’ memory, donations to a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
Lester John Deveau
1926-2009
Unexpectedly, at his residence on February 17th, 2009, Mr. Lester John Deveau, husband of Mrs. Myrtle (Watson) Deveau of Blacks Harbour NB. Born at Salmon River NS on May 30, 1926, he was a son of the late Benjamin and Madeline (Doucett) Deveau. A loving husband, father, grandfather and brother, in addition to his loving wife, Myrtle, he is survived by two daughters, Joyce (Beecher) Hawkins and Cheryl (Ronald) MacVicar both of Pennfield NB, two sons; Harold Deveau of Blacks Harbour NB and Roger (Kelly) Deveau of Pennfield, nine grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, two sisters, Frances Deveau of Halifax NS and Margaret Trenholm of Saint John NB, one brother, Everett Deveau of Weymouth NS and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by five brothers; Wilfred, Herbert, Wallace, Bernard and Henry and one sister, Irene.
Prior to his retirement, Lester worked as a Custodian at Blacks Harbour School for 29 years. He loved woodcrafts, carpentry work and enjoyed cooking.
Resting at the St. George Funeral Home & Crematorium (755-3533), 26 Portage Street, St. George, NB with visiting on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place from the Stella Maris Roman Catholic Church, Blacks Harbour NB on Thursday at 12 noon with Father John Ighacho officiating. The interment will take place at the church cemetery in the spring. In Lester’s memory, donations to the NB Heart & Stroke Foundation or to a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
Glendon Gerald Cooke
1930-2009
After a lengthy illness, surrounded by his family at the Charlotte County Hospital, St. Stephen NB on February 22, 2009, Mr. Glendon Gerald Cooke, husband of the late Mrs. Marguerite (Wilcox) Cooke of Utopia NB. Born at Lake Utopia NB on August 21, 1930, he was a son of the late Norman and Lillian (Chambers) Cooke. A loving father, grandfather and brother, Glendon is survived by two sons; Glendon W. Cooke and Gerry Cooke both of Utopia NB, three daughters; Donna Barrio of L’Etang NB, Lisa (Tim) Carr of Sydney NS and Cheryl Tucker of Rothesay NB, 13 grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, three sisters; Ivy Henry of St. Stephen NB, Helen Frost of Saint John NB and Freda (Lawrence) Stewart of Pennfield NB and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents and wife, Marguerite, Glendon was predeceased by three brothers and three sisters.
Prior to his retirement, Glendon worked for Irving Pulp and Paper at Utopia NB for 20 years. He was an automotive enthusiast, and loved spending time with his family. He was a member of the St. George Seventh Day Adventist Church.

David William Hanlon
1945-2009
Unexpectedly at the Saint John Regional Hospital, Saint John NB, on February 28, 2009, Mr. David William Hanlon, husband of the late Mrs. Jean (Harrison) Hanlon of St. George NB. Born at Riverside–Albert NB on June 14, 1945, he was a son of the late William and Caroline (Dixon) Hanlon. A loving companion, father, grandfather and brother, he is survived by his companion, Donna Hubbard of St. George, two sons; Timothy (Loretta) Hanlon of Pennfield NB and Dwayne (Stephanie) Hanlon of Saint John, four grandchildren; Mitchel, Kelsey, Mikayla and Brandon, one sister, Shirley (Chester) Trenholm of Dorchester NB, two brothers; Lloyd Hanlon of Moncton NB and Harry Hanlon of Montreal PQ, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his wife Jean, he was predeceased by one brother, Donald Hanlon.
Dave worked as a security officer for Connor’s Bros at Blacks Harbour NB. Prior to working for Connor’s Bros., Dave was a branch manager at Irving Oil in St. George from the mid 1970’s and operated the L’Etete Road Irving from 1988 - 1997 with his late wife Jean. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing and four wheeling. He was a devoted family man who enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
There will be no visitation at the funeral home. A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday at 2:00 pm from the Gary E. Waycott Memorial Chapel, St. George Funeral Home, St. George NB with Rev. Grant Alcorn officiating. In Dave’s memory, donations to the NB Heart & Stroke Foundation, Canadian Diabetes. Association or to a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family. Beverley Preston Leavitt
1909-2009
The death of Mr. Beverley Preston Leavitt, husband of the late Rheta R. (English) Leavitt occurred on Sunday, March 1, 2009, at his home in L’Etang NB. Beverly was born on September 25, 1909 at L’Etang, the son of the late Elisha and Lilla (Hooper) Leavitt and was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Beverley is survived by one son, Dr. Preston (Barbara) Leavitt of Fredericton NB, one daughter, Rosalind Leavitt of L’Etang, grandchildren; Stephen (Allison) Leavitt of Fredericton, Jeffrey (Bodil) of Whistler BC and Natalie (Tom) Hart of St. Stephen NB, his great grandchildren; Kathleen, Emily, and Alex, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his wife, Rheta, he was predeceased by sisters; Jean Weatherby, Lila, Muriel and Florence Leavitt and brothers; Roland and Sanford Leavitt.
Beverley worked many years for St. George Pulp and Paper and eventually retired from Connor’s Bros at Blacks Harbour NB. He loved carpentry work and was a member of the Masonic Lodge # 12 F&AM, St. George NB.
As keeping with Beverley’s wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service. Following a Masonic Lodge Tribute Service, a graveside service will be held at the St. George Rural Cemetery, at a time to be announced in the spring. Guilford Richard Cook
1929-2009
At the Charlotte County Hospital, St. Stephen NB, on March 21, 2009, Mr. Guilford Richard Cook, husband of Mrs. E. Valerie (Kinney) Cook of Back Bay NB. Born at Back Bay on December 5, 1929, he was a son of the late Jesse and Pansey (Taylor) Cook. A loving husband, father, grandfather and brother, in addition to his wife Elinor, he is survived by one son, Scott (Crystal) Cook of St. George NB, one daughter, Joan (Richard) Beek of St. George, grandchildren; Christie Lynn Beek, Kyle Cook and Alex Cook all of St. George, one sister, Helena Cooke of Back Bay, one brother, Blois Cook of Back Bay, several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by brothers; Eldon, Donald, Kingston, Walter and infant brother, Reid, and by two sisters; Beulah Mitchell and Thelma Cook.
Prior to his retirement Guildford worked as a carpenter throughout the province at various construction projects as well as lobster fishing and tending weir. He was an avid musician who loved to play the guitar and sing and had a passion for country and western music. He loved going to the camp at McDougall and enjoyed to be in the company of his friends. He was a great friend to all who knew him.
By Guilford’s request, there will be no visitation or service at this time. Friends will be welcome to attend a graveside service at the St. George Rural Cemetery
at a time and date to be announced. Sheila Rose Langmaid
Sheila Rose (Maxwell) Langmaid died April 11, 2009 at Charlotte County Hospital, St. Stephen, after a period of declining health. A resident of Passamaquoddy Lodge, St. Andrews for the past 3 months, she had previously lived her entire life in Canal, just outside St. George.
Born in Canal on March 23, 1931, Sheila was the youngest child of LeRoy and Della (Fitzsimmons) Maxwell. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 35 years, Wilfred R. (Si) Langmaid, in 1990. She was also predeceased by sisters Beryl Kelly, Reta Bell, and Eileen Wright, brothers Lloyd Maxwell, Donald Maxwell, and Clifford Maxwell, and her second husband Jack Adams.
Sheila is survived by her son, Wilfred Langmaid, daughter-in-law Shelley Langmaid, and grandchildren Bethany, Jerome, and Christopher, all of Fredericton, nephews Patrick Kelly of Nepean ON, Robert Wright of Fenwick ON, and Peter Maxwell of Caledonia NS, niece Ann Kinney of Canal, and several cousins. She also had a wealth of friends in the local area, many of whom were among the scores of former students who remained part of her life.
Sheila was a 1949 graduate of St. George Superior School, and graduated from Teachers College in Fredericton in 1950. Apart from 3 years at home after her son was born, she taught in Charlotte County schools until taking early retirement for medical reasons in 1979. She taught through the years at Canal School, Back Bay School, St. George Elementary School, Eastern Charlotte Regional School, and Fundy High School.
A lifelong member of St. Mark’s Anglican Church in St. George, Sheila was also a member of Granite Chapter No. 15 Order of the Eastern Star, the Charlotte County Retired Teachers Association, the New Brunswick Retired Teachers Association, and the Granite Town Senior Citizens Club.
Sheila is resting at the St. George Funeral Home, 26 Portage St, St George NB, with visitation Monday, April 13 from 7 to 9 pm and Tuesday, April 14 from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm. The funeral will take place Wednesday, April 15 at 11 am at St. Mark’s Anglican Church with Rev. Mary Anne Langmaid officiating, assisted by Rev. Canon David Genge and Rev. Canon John Matheson. Spring burial will take place in the family plot at St. George Rural Cemetery. The Granite Chapter No. 15 O.E.S. will hold a tribute service at the funeral home on Tuesday at 7p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Shriners Hospitals would be appreciated by the family. Sheila and Si had many wonderful years together at Luxor Temple AAONMS events, where Si was the captain of the Flag Unit.
