Earl V. Watson
1910-2007
Peacefully at the Fundy Nursing Home, Blacks Harbour, NB on April 14th, 2007, Mr. Earl V. Watson (The V-Man) husband of the late Jessie Alberta (Shaw) Watson, in his 97th year, of Blacks Harbour NB. Born in Canterbury NB on October 4th, 1910 he was a son of the late Grovenor and Eva (Keilty) Watson. A loving father, grandfather and brother he is survived by seven sons; Eric “Buddy” (Margaret) of Blacks Harbour, Murray (Phyllis) of St. George NB, Paul (Kathy) of Pennfield NB, Aurthur (Ruth) of Saint John NB, Douglas (Eloise) of Porter Cove NB, David (Darlene) and Keith (Penny) both of Blacks Harbour, eight daughters; Shirley (Jim) Cameron of Digby NS, Pauline Russell of Pennfield, Mary Richardson of Hubbards NS, Jackie (Horace) Young of Pennfield, Carol (Russell) Surrette of Saint John, Debbie Watson of St. George, Margo (Hal) McLean of Hubbards and Kelly (Danny) Fellows of Pennfield, 55 grandchildren; 82 great grandchildren and 8 great great grandchildren, two sisters; Beulah Liddycoat and Gertrude Foster both of Hamilton ON, several nieces, nephews and cousins and chosen son Gerald (Pauline) Vickery. Besides his beloved wife, Jessie, Earl was predeceased by one son Morris, one grandson Stephen Douglas Watson, two sisters, Beatrice Bustard and Mary Butler, one daughter in law, Linda Watson, and two son in laws, Dwayne Richardson and Gary Russell.
Prior to his retirement, Earl was employed by Conner’s Bros. for nearly 40 years as well as a lobster fisherman. He was a devoted family man and was an avid photographer who took thousands of photographs of Blacks Harbour events and surrounding areas. Most of his photographs of local news events appeared for many years in the St. Croix Courier and the Telegraph Journal. Earl was a member of the United Pentecostal Church in Blacks Harbour and he loved reading his Bible.
Resting at the United Pentecostal Church in Blacks Harbour NB, from where the service will be held on Wednesday at 2:00 pm followed by interment in the Pennfield Rural Cemetery. Visiting at the Church on Monday and Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. In Earl’s memory donations to a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family. Vernon Percy Lord
1934-2007
Peacefully at his residence in Lambertville NB on June 26th, 2007, Mr. Vernon Percy Lord, husband of Mrs. Margaret Jean (Theriault) Lord. Born at Adam’s Island NB on April 23rd, 1934 he was a son of the late Hazen and Bessie (Ricketts) Lord. A loving husband, father, grandfather and brother, Vernon is survived by his wife Margaret, two sons; Wade (Stacey) Lord of Lambertville and Warren (Holly Winters) of Northen Harbour NB, two daughters; Germaine (Richard) Lord of Northern Harbour and Patricia (Danny) Wilcox of Pennfield NB, seven grandchildren, one sister; Virgina Lord of Lambertville and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Vernon was predeceased by his only brother, Asa Lord.
Vernon was a fisherman and a former Captain of the Deer Island Ferry D.L. McLaren for over 20 years. He enjoyed spending time with his family and swinging in his swing. His favourite saying was “Down the Road” which he could often be heard saying. Vernon was a well known and loved man and will be missed by all who knew him.
Resting at the St. George Funeral Home (755-3533) 26 Portage Street, St George NB with visiting on Wednesday at 1-4 pm. A graveside service will be held on Thursday at 2:00 pm at the Fairhaven Community Cemetery
at Calder’s Head on Deer Island NB with Rev. Robert Meister and Rev. Maurice Hatfield officating. In Vernon’s memory donations to the NB Heart and Stroke or the Charlotte County Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family.
Charlotte Marie (Ingersoll) Benson
Peacefully at the Charlotte County Hospital, St. Stephen NB on Sunday, June 17, 2007, Charlotte Marie (Ingersoll) Benson, wife of the late William Benson of St. Stephen and formerly of Blacks Harbour. Born on Grand Manan NB on August 16, 1925 she was a daughter of the late Laurie (Bud) and Leola (Ingalls) Ingersoll. A loving mother, grandmother and sister she is survived by two sons; Gary (Linda) Benson of Calgary AB, Maurice (Pricilla) Benson of Thompson Man., one daughter; Brenda (Bill) Guiney of Ottawa On., four grandchildren; Jody, Jason, Laurel and Mellisa, two great grand children; Caylon and Hannah, one sister; Arlene (Craig) Matheson of Pennfield, two nieces, one nephew, sister in law Emma (Bill) Randall of Fredericton and several cousins, as well as special thanks to Mabel Conley, mom’s best friend, for all her love and kindness.
Charlotte was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Blacks Harbour. She enjoyed knitting and was an avid cribbage and card player. She was a former member of the O.E.S when she lived in Bear River NS.
By request there will be no visitation. The service will be held at Calvary Baptist Church in Blacks Harbour on Wednesday at 2:00 PM with Rev. Bruce Alcorn officiating. Interment will be held at a later date in Bear River NS. In Charlotte’s memory, donations to the Calvary Baptist Church or the Charlotte County Hospital Palliative Care Unit would be appreciated by the family. Shirley Bernice Whittier
1929-2007
Peacefully at the Charlotte County Hospital, St.Stephen NB on Saturday, June 16, 2007, Mrs. Shirley Bernice (Armstrong) Whittier, wife of the late Lewis R. Whittier of Pennfield NB. Born on October 10, 1929 she was a daughter of the late Randall and Olive (Nutter) Armstrong. A loving mother, grandmother and sister, Shirley is survived by: two daughters; Kathy (Peter) Spear and Cindy (Kenny) Seamans both of St. George, six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; one sister; Muriel Bennett of Pennfield and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by; two daughters: Wanda Savard and Sharon Murray, three brothers; Allan, Basil and Daryl and two sisters; Betty Bennett and Kathleen Ancrum.
Shirley was a member of Christ Church (Anglican) in Pennfield and prior to her retirement employed by Connors Brothers in Blacks Harbour. She enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family and friends.
Resting at the St. George Funeral Home, 26 Portage Street, St. George NB with visiting on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The service will be held on Tuesday from Christ Church (Anglican) in Pennfield at 2:00 pm. followed by interment in the church cemetery. Marguerite Mae Cooke
Peacefully, surrounded by her family, at the Saint John Regional Hospital, Saint John, NB on June 15th, 2007, Mrs. Marguerite Mae (Wilcox) Cooke, wife of Mr. Glendon G. Cooke of Utopia, NB. Born in Pennfield, NB on August 23rd, 1933, she was a daughter of the late Ernest and Edith (Trynor) Wilcox. A loving wife, mother and grandmother she is survived by her husband Glendon, two sons; Glendon and Gerry Cooke both of Utopia, three daughters; Donna (William) Barrio of L’Etang NB, Lisa (Tim) Carr of Sydney NS and Sheryl Tucker (David) of Rothesay NB, 13 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, two brothers; Sheldon (Audrey) Wilcox and Ellsworth (Alice) Wilcox both of Pennfield NB, one sister; Joyce (Courtney) Evans of Saint John NB, several sisters-in-law nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by one brother, Lawrence Wilcox.
Marguerite loved wildlife and being surrounded by animals. She loved the outdoors and especially spending time with her family. She was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church of St. George

Grace Jane (Johnson) Rogerson
1940-2007
Unexpectedly at her residence in Lord’s Cove NB on June 10th, 2007, Mrs. Grace Jane (Johnson) Rogerson, wife of the late David Wesley Rogerson of Lord’s Cove NB. Born in Eastporte ME, on March 17, 1940 she was a daughter of the late Bernard and Alice (Fountain) Johnson. A loving mother and grandmother, she is survived by her daughter; Kathy Young of Richardson NB, three grandchildren; Brittany Young (Jeremy) of Richardson, Devon Young (Jessica) of St. George NB and Dustin Young(Manda). of Richardson, two great grandchildren, Logan and Jaiden and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by one sister; Carolyn Annette Johnson.
Grace was employed at Cooke Aquaculture in St. George NB. She enjoyed gardening and spending time with her grandchildren.
By Grace’s request, there will be no visiting. A graveside service will be held at Mount Hope Cemetery, Deer Island, on Friday at 2:00 pm with Rev. Conrad Cline and Rev. Glenn Cox officiating. Doris May Kernighan
1923-2007
Peacefully at the Charlotte County Hospital, St. Stephen NB on June 7, 2007, Mrs. Doris May (Pierce) Kernighan, wife of the late John Samuel Kernighan of St. George NB. Born in Sussex, England on June 16, 1923 she was a daughter of the late Harry and Daisy Pierce. A loving mother and grandmother, Doris is survived by four sons; John (Barbara) Kernighan of Fredericton NB, David (Sheila) Kernighan of St. George NB, Gary (Dawn) Kernighan and Michael (Karen) Kernighan both of Blacks Harbour NB, four daughters; Pearl Ann (William) Haley of St. Stephen NB, Ethel (Robert) Smith of Saint John NB, Sharon (Kenneth) Montgomery of St. Stephen NB and Heather (Dwayne) Hooper of Blacks Harbour NB, 17 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins. Doris was predeceased by her husband; John, one daughter; Carol, one son; Kevin, one grandson; Jason Kernighan, one granddaughter; Elizabeth Montgomery, three sisters and one brother.
Doris served in the Land Army in England during the Second World War, and came to Canada in 1946 as a war bride. She was an avid dart player and a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #40 in St. George as well as a member of the Eastern Charlotte Lion’s Club. She loved her grandchildren and knitting and gardening.
By Doris’s request there will be no visitation held. A memorial service will be held from The Gary E. Waycott Memorial Chapel, St. George NB on Sunday at 2:00 pm with the Rev. Jack Willet officiating. A reception will follow at the Royal Canadian Legion in St. George. Donations to the Charlotte County Local Food Banks or to a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family. Charles "Maurice" Justason
Peacefully at the Oromocto Hospital, Oromocto NB on June 6th, 2007, Mr. Charles Maurice Justason, husband of the late Mildred (Seeley) Justason, of Haneytown NB and formerly of Blacks Harbour NB. Born in Pennfield NB on March 5th, 1919 he was a son of the late Charles Edward and Ethel May (Wilcox) Justason. A loving father, grandfather and brother he is survived by three sons; Stephen Justason (Sharon) of Moncton NB, Richard Merrett (Sandy) of Tracy NB and Michael Merrett (Bonnie) of Geary NB, three daughters; Linda (Donald) Caissie of Geary, Wanda (Jean-Guy) Ringuette of Haneytown, Karen (Paul) DeWolf of Fredericton NB, 12 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, 2 brothers; Ernest Justason of Pocologan NB and Murray Justason (Donna) of Sussex NB, two sisters; Clara McLean of New River Beach NB and Louise (Arthur) Gillmor of St. George NB and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his wife Mildred, Maurice was predeceased by a daughter, Serena, three brothers; Alvin, Lewis and Clarence, and five sisters; Irene Matheson, Viola Justason, Hazel Corey, Amy Maxwell and Doris Williams.
Prior to his retirement, Maurice worked for Connor’s Bros. and the Canadian Corps. Of Commissionaires, where he was employed for 18 years. He loved baseball and more recently since moving in with his daughter, Wanda, was an avid bingo player. He also loved the outdoors and spending time at the Lake. He was a veteran of the Second World War, serving in Newfoundland following his enlistment.

The service will be held on Friday from the United Pentecostal Church in Blacks Harbour at 2:00 pm with Rev. Donald McCarty and Rev. Mark Noel officiating, followed by interment at the Blacks Harbour Community Cemetery. In Maurice’s memory donations made to the NB Heart and Stroke or the NB Lung Association would be appreciated by the family.
