Isabella Mary Ann Jorde
On Wednesday, December 8, 1999, Isabella Mary Ann Jorde, late of Radville, passed away at the Marian Health Centre, at the age of 93 years. Predeceased by her parents, Annie and Donald McPhederan; husband, Sven Jorde; four grandchildren: Diane Leatherdale, three Ellingson babies; great grandchildren: Trent Bouchard, Kevin Briltz, Natacha Kalenz (baby); two brothers: John and Duncan McPhederan; two sisters: Flora Noan and Catherine Elly. Isabella leaves to mourn her six daughters: Anne (Roy) Ellingson of Estevan; Irene Berg of Radville; Pearl Berger of Lake Alma; Alverna Berger of Radville; Clara (Earl) Ness of McTaggart; and Florelle (Richard) Stefan of North Battleford; one son, Ivan (Joanne) Jorde of Black Diamond, AB; one brother Donald McPhederan of Prince Albert; one sister-in-law, Agnes Jorde of Yellow Grass; 25 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren, and 36 great great grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Isabella Mary Ann was born in Innary, Scotland on June 20, 1906 to Donald and Annie McPhederan. She came to Canada in 1911 with her mother, two brothers and one sister. Her dad had arrived in 1908 and filed on a homestead. She lived in the Overland District (south of Lake Alma) in a sod shack. A few years later, a lumber house was built. Isabella attended school at Overland School, walking the two miles, summer and winter. She attended church at Overland and in later years at Lake Alma Lutheran. On December 15, 1922 she married Sven Jorde and they farmed and raised a family of seven. She did not have things very easy as there were no pampers, washing machines, or fridges in those days. Isabella would often mention how, during the dry 30s, she would carry water from a spring a mile away. Isabella sewed all the girls' dresses. She would buy ten yards of one pattern (so there would be no waste) and all five of the older girls would have the same dress (which they weren't too happy with). In 1957 the family moved to Estevan, where Sven had a job as guard at the Boundary Dam. Isabella or "Bella" as she was called, worked in a cafe. There were only two left at home by this time, Florelle and Ivan. In 1961 they sold their land to Walter Pohle and bought a house in Lake Alma. There, Bella worked as a telephone operator until the office was taken out of Lake Alma. Sven passed away March 27, 1987 and Bella continued to live in Lake Alma until February 1992, when she entered the Marian Home in Radville. Isabella has 105 direct descendants - six daughters: Anne Ellingson, Irene Berg, Pearl Berger, Alverna Berger, Clara Ness, Florelle Stefan, and one son, Ivan Jorde; 25 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren; and 36 great great grandchildren. Funeral service was held Saturday, December 11 at 10:00 a.m. from Lake Alma Lutheran Church with Pastor Martin Olson officiating. Interment followed in Overland Cemetery, Lake Alma. All those in attendance were considered to be honorary pallbearers. The active pallbearers were: Rodney Ellingson, Randy Ellingson, Conrad Berger, Wilbur Berger, Laine Stefan and Bryan Berger. Those wishing to express their sympathy may donate to Lake Alma Lutheran Church or the Palliative Care Unit of Radville Marian Health Centre, Radville. Wesley Waldemar Knakoske
On Friday, November 3, 1999, Wesley Waldemar Knakoske, late of Weyburn, passed away at the age of 67 years. Predeceased by his father and mother, August and Louise Knakoske; an infant brother, Walter; four sisters: Bertha Erkelens, Lena Knakoske, Leona Samborski and Dorothy Hanchuk. Wesley is survived by one sister Elsie Nadon of Weyburn, and one brother Ernest (Madeline) Knakoske of Swift Current; as well as many nieces and nephews. Wes was only four and Dorothy, the youngest, only two years of age, when Mother died of toximia at 36 years of age. Left with a needy family and facing the hard times of the depression, Dad moved into Weyburn in an effort to find relief. Elsie, the eldest of the family, assumed many of the parent roles for the younger children. Wesley was baptized in the Lutheran Church and confirmed at Zion Lutheran in Weyburn. He was educated in the Weyburn Public Schools and graduated from the Weyburn Collegiate Institute with his grade 12. He worked for a number of years in the Weyburn Co-op Creamery, then at the Saskatchewan Hospital, and finally as a painter with Schwartz Construction. He retired with serious health problems related to his breathing. Though these slowed him down, they did not stop him. He continued to enjoy his hobbies as a backyard mechanic and woodworking. Gentleness and quietness best describe his main qualities. Wes was a very private person who nonetheless treated people with great respect as a gentleman. When he went downtown for business, he was a sharp dresser and a pleasant visitor. But what he loved most was time at home for reading. The prairie had been his childhood playground, and his love for nature and animals was life-long. Most of his reading was in the area of natural medicine too. He learned many homeopathic remedies to help him with his health problems, and the Parkinson's Disease which was diagnosed in about 1992. Edna I. Lindskog
On Wednesday, December 8, 1999, Edna I. Lindskog, late of Radville, passed away at Radville Marian Health Centre, at the age of 79 years. Predeceased by her parents: Lars and Sophie Lindskog, and by her twin sister, Ellen Frederick. Edna is survived by her two brothers: Sidney (Dorothy) Lindskog of Weyburn; and Gordon (Phyllis) Lindskog of Weyburn; brother-in-law Bill Frederick of Weyburn; nieces and nephews: Terry Frederick, Rodger Frederick, Stanley Lindskog, Steven Linkdkog, Verna Mitura, Rodney Lindskog, Randy Lindskog, Lori Olheiser, Kevin Lindskog, Kelly Lindskog and Leanne Verbeem; as well as great nieces and nephews. Edna was born, along with her twin sister, Ellen, on December 17, 1919 at the homestead southwest of Neptune. They were the eldest of four children born to Ivor and Sophie Lindskog. At three years of age, Edna contracted polio. She did survive and an operation on her legs done in Winnipeg enabled her to walk again. This allowed her to care for the calves, chicks, piglets and especially the kittens on the family farm. She did her share of the housework, and enjoyed the rides by horse and sleigh and playing cards. She also took care of her nieces and nephews, as a great joy was to have babies around her. In 1965 her father passed away and Edna moved with her caregiver, Mary Dalrymple, to a cottage at Pioneer Place in Weyburn. In April of 1972, she moved into the Marian Home, now the Radville Marian Health Centre. Her siblings would take her out for various occasions, so they were able to spend time with her, a joy for her to be in their homes. She loved to open the presents at the Christmas celebrations. Edna's presence was felt at the Marian Centre, as she made crafts, pillows, rugs, etc. When one visited her, she would be a good salesperson offering to sell a rug, or even a raffle ticket or three. And of course, there was bingo, hoping to win so she could spend the money. Most contagious was Edna's smile and laugh. It was difficult to visit her and not come away with a big smile and a joyful feeling. The residents, staff and volunteers were a large part of Edna's life. She attended many special suppers, parties and outings to the Seniors Centre for pie and coffee or to Hannigan's for ice cream. Edna was caring and loving, but also very honest, as she spoke her mind, clearly letting you know how she felt. She may not have had any formal education, but her learning was impressive. Because of her exceptional memory, she could list events, past and present, recalling details that others may have forgotten. Family was still important to Edna, attending a wedding, a baptism, and just this year, her brother's 50th wedding anniversary. We thank God for blessing us with Edna. Funeral service was held Monday, December 13 at 2:00 p.m. from Fletcher Funeral Chapel, Weyburn, with Pastor Martin Olson officiating. Interment followed in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Maxim. All those in attendance were considered to be honorary pallbearers. The active pallbearers were: Rodney, Stanley, Steven and Randy Lindskog, Troy and Jason Frederick. For friends so wishing, donations may be made to the Radville Marian Health Centre, Radville, in her memory. Arrangements were entrusted to Fletcher Funeral Chapels Ltd., Weyburn.
