Gladys M. Reiser
On Monday, November 15, 1999, Gladys M. Reiser, late of Regina, and formerly of Halbrite, passed away at the Sunset Nursing Home at the age of 86 years. Predeceased by her loving husband of over 50 years, John Reiser; two sisters: Agnes Gerrish and Isabelle Reiser, and by one brother, Joe Gerrish. Gladys is survived by two sons: Edward R. Reiser of Regina; and Kenneth (Norine) Reiser of Regina; grandson, Dan (Cathy) Reiser; and great grandchildren: Adam, Sarah and Katie Reiser; granddaughter, Yvonne (Ray) Sigmeth and great grandchildren: Janelle and Kristen Sigmeth; five sisters-in-law: Rose McLeod, Agnes Allen, Dorothy Reiser, Mildred Reiser and Joy Gerrish; as well as many loving nieces and nephews. Gladys was born August 29, 1913 to Howard and Emae Gerrish at Lisbon, North Dakota, USA. She married John Reiser and they lived in Halbrite where their two sons, Ed and Ken, were born. In 1953 they moved to Regina where they lived in a home a few doors up the street from the Grey Nun's Hospital. John passed away in 1984 and Gladys suffered a stroke in 1998. Gladys loved having people around and was always ready to offer her home for friends and acquaintances and especially nieces and nephews to come and stay. Big meals were Gladys' trademark. She was delighted to be a grandmother to Yvonne and Dan and was especially happy to share later as great grandmother with their children. Her hospitality was what made her life full, and she will be sadly missed by all those she knew and loved. Funeral service was held Wednesday, November 17 at 2:00 p.m. from Fletcher Funeral Chapel, Weyburn, with Marilyn Anderson Corkum officiating minister. Interment followed in Halbrite Cemetery, Halbrite. All those in attendance were considered to be honorary pallbearers. The active pallbearers were: Marvin Reiser, Carl Lafrentz, Graham Reiser, Lloyd Reiser, Mac Gordon and Trevor Gordon. Gerard Francis Jordens
The funeral mass for the late Gerard Francis Jordens of Weyburn, who died at Weyburn on November 13, 1999, at the age of 89, was celebrated in St. Joseph's R.C. Church, Whitewood, on November 20, 1999 by Rev. Ed Hengen. Interment followed in Whitewood Cemetery. The pallbearers were: Kevin Jordens, Trent Jordens, Marty Jordens, Michael Jordens, Barry Lynn Fredlund and Jason Bill. Gerry was born at St. Hubert, SK on April 9, 1910, son of Francis and Mary (Rainville) Jordens. He served in the Royal Canadian Air Force from 1940-1945 and returned to Whitewood with an English war bride, Margaret. They began farming south of Whitewood and in 1973 Gerry retired to Whitewood. He was an active member of the Whitewood Legion having served as president as well as holding other executive positions. He was also a councillor on the Whitewood Town Council. Gerry was predeceased by his parents, Francis and Mary Jordens; ten brothers and two sisters, and his wife, Margaret in 1996. He is survived by one brother, Joe, Broadview; one sister, Theresa, St. Albert, AB; five children: Jacqueline Fredlund, Regina and their family: Barry Lynn Fredlund, Tracey (John) Seiferling, and Kathy (Rob) Johnson; Ralph (Linda) Jordens, Weyburn and their family: Faye (Loni) Hoium, Trent Jordens, Marty (Danielle) Jordens, Crystal Jordens and her fiance, Peter Mantei, and step sons, Kelly and Chad Eagles; Jerry (Janie) Jordens, Weyburn and their family: Kevin Jordens and his fiance, Jamie Hagel, Kerry Jordens and her fiance, Jason Bill, and Rob (Terry-Lea) Jordens; Michael (Margaret) Jordens, Richmond, BC and their family: Michael Jr. Jordens and Christine Jordens; Gloria (Hugh) Sutcliffe, Vancouver, BC and their family: Nicola Sutcliffe, Katrina Sutcliffe and Michelle Sutcliffe; six great grandchildren: Victoria Fredlund, John Seiferling, Kelton, Ketter and Kenzie Hoium and Kelsea Jordens. Dorothy Rose May Tanner
Dorothy Rose May Tanner, born January 7, 1904 at Williamsfield, Ohio to Harmon and Jessie Tidd (nee Colby), passed away November 15, 1999 at her farm home near Heward, SK. Predeceased by her first husband, Ernest May in February 1950 and by her second husband, H.W. Tanner in 1985; four sisters, four brothers, two nephews and two nieces. Dorothy is survived by her five children; Audrey (Charles) Dietrich of Andover, Ohio; Eris Sanders of Heward; Gail (Albert) Michel of Regina; Nancy (Donald) Valesky of Leesburg, Florida; and William H. May of Seattle, Wash.; mourning her death are ten grandchildren: Brian (Alana Mitchell) Michel of Calgary, AB; Carol (Gerry) Ikegwuonu of Toronto, ON; Bruce (Terri) Sanders of Florida; Roberta (Bob) Huber of California; Marie Miller, James (Annette) Eastlake, Richard (Gwen) Thompson, Gary (Erma) Thompson, Ernest (Sherry) Thompson and Arden Whitt, all of Ohio; 19 great grandchildren; five great great grandchildren; seven step grandchildren; five nephews and two nieces. Funeral service was held Friday, November 19 at 2:00 p.m. from Grace United Church, Stoughton, with Rev. Jann Sampson officiating. Interment followed in Heward cemetery. The pallbearers were John Allan, Warren Allan, Brian Michel, Arden Whitt, Greg Tanner and Gary Thompson. Marjorie Augusta Small
Marjorie Augusta Small (nee Hall) passed away November 17, 1999 at Sunnyside Nursing Home, Saskatoon, at the age of 91 years. Marjorie was born at Mortlach, SK on August 30, 1908. Following graduation in Mortlach she attended business college in Regina. Marjorie married Harry Small on December 25, 1932. They lived in Halbrite and Moosomin prior to moving to Weyburn where they resided for 41 years. Marjorie was a long time employee of Prairie Agencies in Weyburn. She enjoyed the concert series, was a lifetime member of the Eastern Star and a long time member of the Anglican Church Women. Marjorie is survived by a daughter, Marjorie (Wayne) Burns of Saskatoon; a son, Don (Helen) Small of Prince Albert; four grandchildren: Garry, Darcy, Rob and Rhonda; five great grandchildren: Erin, Alison, Patrick, Erin and Ksenia; one sister, Glenys (Ken) Brinnen of Surrey, BC. Marjorie was predeceased by her husband Harry; her parents George and Margaret Hall; and a sister, Eileen. Funeral service was held Saturday, November 20, at 2:00 p.m. from All Saints Anglican Church, Weyburn, with Rev. Julie Collings officiating. Interment followed in Hillcrest Cemetery, Weyburn. Leslie Gardiner Brammall
Leslie Gardiner Brammall was called home to be with his Lord on November 20, 1999 at the age of 82 years. He was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Faith Brammall, a sister in infancy, a sister Lois Brammall of Midale, a brother Neil Brammall of Kisbey and numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years. Jean Brammall of Killarney, MB; a daughter Doris (Harold) Nickel of Wabamun, AB; a daughter Esther (Bryan) McAuley of Killarney; a son Frank (Ina) Brammall of Thedford, ON; a brother Paul Brammall of Duncan, BC; grandchildren Derrick and Shawna Nickel of Wabamun, Amy Jo, Kevin and Laurie McAuley of Killarney, and several nieces and nephews. Leslie was born on the family farm at Kisbey on September 28, 1917. In his early years he attended a rural school at Kisbey. He later continued his schooling for an additional three years at Briercrest Bible School in Caronport, SK and graduated from there. During the Second World War, Leslie served his country as a mechanic in overseas service in Holland, Italy and France. Following the war, he farmed in the Kisbey area. On June 30, 1951, he married Jean Molberg. After a short time in Kisbey, they settled into farming in the Midale area where they farmed for several years. While in Midale, Leslie was very active in the Midale Baptist Church where he served as a faithful deacon for many years, and as a Gideon in the Gideon's Society. He also served his community well as a board member of the Low Rental Housing Authority in Midale. In the 1980s, Leslie and Jean began a pattern of farming in Midale in the summers but wintering in Killarney. Following their retirement from farming in the early 1990s, Leslie and Jean made Killarney their permanent residence. While in Killarney, Leslie continued his active involvement in the church. He has served as a Deacon, has taught Sunday school, has preached, has been involved in various Bible studies and has been faithful as a prayer warrior. He was also very faithful in doing what he could to help the church building project and was happy with each step of progress that was made. Up to the time of his death, he, along with his wife have hosted a weekly Bible study in their home. He was also very regular in his attendance and support of a prayer group which meets to pray every Saturday morning at the church. He usually brought a Bible passage to share with the group. On the morning of his passing, he had his alarm set so he could get up for this time of prayer at the church but God called him home shortly before his 7:00 prayer time. In his spare time, Leslie enjoyed helping people at odd jobs, fixing small machines, and working at different projects around his home and community. He also loved to travel and to read and could often be found with a book in his hand. Through his reading and his experiences, he became well versed in many different areas. He especially liked to read his Bible and made a commitment to read through it each year, which he did for most years of his married life. Leslie loved people and always cherished his time with those he knew and met. Many people can attest to the genuine interest he showed in people, to his hearty handshake and his desire to know how things were really going. Leslie will always be remembered as a friend and encourager to all who knew him and will be sadly missed by those whose lives he touched. Rachel "Rose" Bowes
On Wednesday, November 17, 1999, Rachel "Rose" Bowes, late of Stoughton, passed away at New Hope Lodge, at the age of 83 years. Predeceased by her loving husband of 50 years, Carl Bowes; three brothers: Frank, Louis and Joe; and three sisters: Irene, Helen and Margaret. Rose is survived by one daughter, Sharon (Bill) Paulenko; two sons: Larry (Claudette) Bowes and Richard (Leona) Bowes; nine grandchildren: Tammy, Monty, Chamdra, Kelly, Bobbie-Jo, Shane, Melissa, Mallory and Reid; three great grandchildren: Annissa, Bret and Samuel; one brother, Alex Solomon; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Rachel was born and raised on a farm near Parkerview, SK, along with her four brothers and three sisters. There, she met Carl, her husband of 50 years, while he was putting up hay for his livestock during the Depression. They were married July 1, 1935 at Yorkton and started their home on the Bowes family farm at Stoughton, where they raised three children, Sharon, Larry and Richard. Rachel, or Rose as she was known to many, worked both on and off the farm. For several years she worked as a medical receptionist for Dr. Markoff. She was very well known for her cooking, and worked as a cook at the Newhope Pioneer Lodge, and later, while living in Weyburn, she worked as a cook at Mt. St. Mary's. Rachel was an active member of the Margaret Armstrong Rebekah Lodge and was Past Noble Grand. Her greatest love was her family and friends, and her generosity will be remembered by many. She is fondly remembered and will be sadly missed by her family and many friends. Funeral service was held Saturday, November 20 at 2:00 p.m. from Grace United Church, Stoughton, with Rev. Jann Sampson officiating. Interment followed in Stoughton Cemetery. All those in attendance were considered to be honorary pallbearers. Palmer Morley Pederson
On Tuesday, November 23, 1999, Palmer Morley Pederson, late of Weyburn, passed away at the Weyburn Special Care Home at the age of 87 years. Predeceased by his parents, Peter and Marie Pederson; one son, Earl; two sisters: Olga Ostad and Mabel Peterson; and two brothers: Henry and Arnold. Palmer is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Sophie of Weyburn; two sons: Ron Pederson of Weyburn; and Les (Shirley) Pederson of Calgary, AB; two daughters-in-law: Elaine Pederson of Saskatoon; and Barbara Pederson of Ottawa, ON; grandchildren: Gordon (Maureen) Pederson and their son, Connor, of Ottawa; Shelly Pederson of Ottawa; Brent Pederson of Saskatoon; Stacey Pederson of Kelowna, BC; Scott (Shelley) Pederson and their son Ryan of Calgary; Brad (Allison) Pederson and their children, Tayler and Sara of Florida; two brothers: Melvin Pederson of Iowa and Martin (Flossie) Pederson of Calgary; one sister: Hazel (Frank) Kelley of Weyburn; one sister-in-law, Ethel Pederson of Seattle, Wash.; as well as nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews. Palmer was born June 13, 1912 on the family farm at Talmage. He attended Talmage public school with his life long partner, Sophie, to grade 8. He was very active in sports as a younger man, especially baseball and curling. In January, 1935, he married Sophie Tollefson in Talmage. They lived and farmed in Talmage and Worcester until 1961. He also drove the school bus at Talmage, and then became the maintenance person with Western Christian College, until his retirement at age 65. Palmer remained very active in woodworking and general repair and restoration in the Weyburn area until his health failed him. He and Sophie were supporters of many community churches, including the last several years at the Weyburn Free Methodist Church. Palmer will be remembered for his kindness, gentle spirit and generosity, and unfailing sense of humor. Funeral service was held Friday, November 26 at 2:00 p.m. from the Weyburn Community Free Methodist Church, with Pastor Wade Fitzpatrick officiating. Interment followed in Hillcrest Cemetery, Weyburn. The pallbearers were: Allan, James, Norm, Ron and Mark Alexander and Les Sproule. Gregory J. Miller
It is with great sadness our family announces the passing of our husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and brother, Gregory J. Miller on Friday, November 26, 1999 at the age of 81 years. Greg passed away at Pioneer Village peacefully with his family by his bedside. Predeceased by parents Albert and Elsie Miller, step-father Ed Dienst and one sister in infancy. Survived by wife Jean of 57 years, of Regina; son Donald (Darlene) Miller of Ceylon; daughter Marlene (Ron) Lessard of Regina Beach; sisters: Cath (Jack) Conn of Vancouver; and Ardyth (Fernie) Manz of Regina; grandchildren Shana (Shawn) Flottorp of Regina; Kathryn Miller of Ceylon; Morley (Dana) Lessard of Whitehorse, Yukon; Treena (Lloyd) Campbell of Kimberly, BC; Rachelle (Trevor) Pollon of Kelowna, BC; great grandchildren: Jessica, Tyler and Sarah Flottorp of Regina; Cody and Spencer Lessard of Whitehorse, Yukon; and Tanner and Chanel Campbell of Kimberly, BC. Ivy May Pawlak
On November 10, 1999, Mrs. Ivy Pawlak passed away in Lloydminster, SK at the age of 87 years. Ivy was born in a sod hut at Ratcliffe on August 23, 1912. She married Tim Pawlak in 1940. Together they started their family of three and their business operation of country store, gas station and post office. After only ten years of marriage Tim passed away suddenly. Ivy continued on with the family business until 1961. At that time she returned to school and got her teaching certificate. She taught in Oungre, SK until her retirement. Ivy is survived by her children Steven (Gayle) of Vermilion, AB, Shannon Young of Sandy, Utah, Elgin (Elsie) of Kitscoty, AB, seven grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and one brother Jim Ratcliffe of Brandon, MB. Ivy was predeceased by her husband and brothers Ernest, Richard and Joseph. Ivy has been cremated and will be laid to rest with her husband Tim in the St. John's cemetery at Beaubier. An annual scholarship will be set up in memory of Ivy at Western Christian College. This college was attended by all three of her children and by several of her grandchildren. The family would like to thank the staff at Jubilee Home in Lloydminster for their kindness and caring. Also, the family wishes to thank the many friends who shared our sorrows and assisted us in so many ways. God bless you for your kindness and compassion.
Hazel Caldwell
Hazel (Gray) Caldwell passed away peacefully on November 12, 1999 at the age of 68 at Summerland, BC. Hazel was born August 25, 1931 at Ceylon, SK. She is survived by her loving husband Jim; two sons, Garth (Diane) of Vancouver and Ron (Debbie) of Summerland; numerous grandchildren and one great grandchild; one brother Ron (Elaine) Gary, Bentley, AB; sister-in-law Eileen Barber of Regina; sisters Winona (Edwin) Temsland of Radville, Arvella (Lloyd) Gilchrist of Torquay, Beverly Labatte of Carnduff; and several nieces, nephews and a special friend, Rosa King of Summerland. Hazel was predeceased by her parents, Laurel and Dorothy Gray of Ceylon and one brother Ken of Ceylon. Hazel was an avid sports woman who loved baseball, track and field - later fishing and traveling. Jim and Hazel made many trips to Sask. to visit parents and family, Hazel was an excellent cook and her home was always open to all. She will be sadly missed by family and friends. Funeral service was held Tuesday, November 16 at 11:00 a.m. from Rosedale Memorial Chapel in Summerland. Reverend Rosemary Cowan officiated. Interment followed at Canyonview cemetery. Elsie Kesslering
On Thursday, November 25, 1999, Elsie Kesslering, late of Weyburn, passed away at the age of 81 years. Predeceased by her mother and father, Ada and George Ashton; and one sister, Ida Brown. Elsie leaves to mourn her husband of 64 years, Max Kesslering; one daughter, Yvonne (Keith) Kessler; four grandchildren: Clayton (Lorrie) Kessler of Pangman; Dallas (Marsha) Kessler of Saskatoon; Joan (Ryan) Kennedy of White Court, AB; Keitha (John) Thompson of Yellow Grass; eight great grandchildren: Sean and Tyler Kessler, Steven, Laura and Trent Kessler, Olivia Kennedy, Jack and Amy Thompson; one sister, Doris Johnson of Surrey, BC; one brother, David (Doris) Ashton of Sechelt, BC; as well as many nieces and nephews. Elsie was born March 14, 1918 in Parry, SK. She took her schooling in Moose Jaw, completing grade 10 in Regina, continuing on at Balfour taking a secretarial course. Her early years were spent in Moose Jaw, moving to Regina, than back to Parry. She married Max Kesslering on October 19, 1935 in the Holy Angels Roman Catholic Church at Pangman. Elsie was active on community recreation groups. She was also an active bowler at Parry. She was involved with the U.C.W. League, and was a member of the United Church. She lived at Parry on the farm until November 1979 when she moved to Pangman. She resided there until she was placed in Souris Valley Extended Care Center in June 1992. She loved sewing, knitting and crocheting, and would make new things out of old. Elsie and her husband Max loved playing cards and visiting with their neighbors who were very important to them. Funeral service was held Monday, November 29 at 2:00 p.m. from Pangman United Church with Rev. Doug Ponto officiating. Interment followed in Pangman cemetery. All those in attendance were considered to be honorary pallbearers. The active pallbearers were: Leroy Hanson, Allan Ashton, Harold Olson, Leroy Jackson, Leslie Ashton and Garth Krauss. Mrs. Lavinia Jewitt
Mrs. Lavinia Jewitt, age 99, of Kyle, SK passed away on Monday, November 29, 1999 at the Kyle District Health Centre in Kyle. The funeral service was held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 1 from the chapel of Warren's Funeral Home with Pastor Ed Nicol of the Kyle United Church officiating. The interment service will take place at a later date by the family. The organist was Darlene Smith. Lavinia is survived by daughters Jessie Jewitt of Spokane, Washington, USA; Christine (Gordon) Beckett of Stewart Valley, SK; Donna Gauthier of Saskatoon; son Donald (Eileen) Jewitt of Okotoks, AB; daughter-in-law Nancy (Jewitt) Vine; 12 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins in England and Canada and one sister Irene, with whom we'd all lost contact with in England. She was predeceased by her parents, husband Donald and son Victor Jewitt. Lavinia was born in Leeds, England, August 29, 1900. She attended the Saint Hildas Parish School in Leeds, England. She married Donald Jewitt of Wetherby Yorkshire, England, February 16, 1923 in Leeds. She immigrated to Canada in 1927 and settled in the northeast part of Sask., then to Regina in 1940 because Donald was in World War II. In 1950 they resided in Weyburn until retiring in 1968 in Victoria, BC and finally to Kyle, SK in 1991. Lavinia apprenticed for seven years in the garment industry and was a fully qualified tailor. She enjoyed leather tooling, china painting, water colors, oil painting, knitting, crocheting and petit point. Lavinia was a very busy person but always had time for friends and family. In her memory, donations to the Kyle District Health Centre, Box 70, Kyle, SK S0L 1T0 would be appreciated by the family. Arrangements entrusted to Warren's Funeral Home, Swift Current and District.
James David Goote
On Saturday, December 4, 1999, James David Goote, late of Weyburn, passed away at the age of 68 years. Predeceased by his father and mother, William and Louisa Goote; three sisters: Irene Justin, Celia Goote and Jackie Culbert; and two brothers: Raymond Stockham and Johnny Goote. James is survived by several nieces and nephews. Jimmy was born January 27, 1931 at Weyburn. He took his schooling in Weyburn, completing his grade 12 at Weyburn Collegiate Institute. He started his apprenticeship in plumbing in 1956, and received his journeyman in 1959 with first class grades. He worked with his dad at Weyburn Plumbing and Heating until William passed away, and Jimmy assumed the business. One of the highlights of his life was working with the Boy Scouts, and in 1961 he received his Warrant of Appointment on March 14 from the Boy Scouts. Jim was proud of his nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews and had their pictures up in his truck and in his home. He will be remembered as a friendly and well liked person in the community. A memorial service was held Tuesday, December 14 at 3:00 p.m. from Fletcher Funeral Chapel, Weyburn, with Capts. Gerald and Joyce McDonald officiating. Interment followed in Hillcrest Cemetery, Weyburn. All those in attendance were considered to be honorary pallbearers. Lunch followed at the Salvation Army. Annie Johnson
With sadness we announce the passing of our dear mother Annie Johnson (Short) at Souris Valley Extended Care Center on November 30, 1999. She passed away peacefully at the age of 96 with her family by her side. Annie was born in West Ukraine June 13, 1903 to Paul and Ann Basaraba. They moved to Canada in 1913 when war was threatening. There were five children at that time; four more were born in Canada. They left behind a new home, complete with fruit trees, to start a new life. They settled at Komarno, MB. Annie attended school for three years then went out to work to help support the family. She met Mike Short and they were married February 14, 1923 in Winnipeg. They then came to Osage where Mike farmed. They had six children; a four year old daughter, Irene, died in 1934. Mike died in 1957. In June of 1978 Annie married Alex Johnson who passed away in May 1993. Annie resided in the nursing home until her passing. Annie was predeceased by five brothers, three sisters, three brothers-in-law, one sister-in-law and one grandson in 1964. She is survived by her five children: James (Blanche) Short, Regina; Evelyn (Ed) Deutsch, Fillmore; Violet (Bob) Schiller, Weyburn; Andrew (Dorothy) Short, Osage; Fred (Judy) Short, Regina; 19 grandchildren, 32 great and eight great great grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral service was held at the Regina Funeral Home December 4. Interment was held at Regina Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimers Association of Sask., 301-2550-12th Avenue, Regina, Sask. S4P 3X1.
