Helen Baumann
Passed Away: March 19, 2006
She has her wings! She is free! She has nor more pain! Helen Ramona Baumann passed peacefully away on March 19, 2006. A Memorial Service was held on March 27, 2006 in the Knox United Church in Gull Lake with Reverend Bev Diduck officiating. The ushers were, grandson, Dave Ibach and nephew, Harvey Bueckert, the honorary pallbearers were all who shared her life. Helen was born on September 20, 1919 to Christian and Hazel Kirk. She faced sorrow early in life with the loss of her mother and brother but that didn’t slow her down. She greatly embraced life, tackling and perfecting everything she tried, cooking, sewing, curling, quilting, bowling, playing cards and even painting. In 1949, Mom came back to Gull Lake with four little girls. It was here, she once again met an old boyfriend, Bill Baumann and they were married in April of 51. To this happy union a baby boy was born in May of 52. Dad always said, “He had to wait for Mom to grow up so he could marry her.” When we were going to school we always brought a friend home with us and we’d walk into the house to the smell of homemade buns, cookies, or cakes. One of Mom’s favorite bible passages was the parable of the “Ninety and Nine.” This was how she lived her life. If any of us kids or grandkids got into trouble she would say, “At times like this I don’t love you less but I love you more.” At her round table there was always room for one more to sit no matter who you were, you were always welcome. All her life she was a caregiver, nursing many through sickness and death, whether it was for her children, grandchildren, siblings or friends, she was there for them. Mom fought brave and hard right up to the end, never giving up the idea that she was going to be healthy again and be able to do all the things she loved and enjoyed. We’re going to miss you Mom; you’ve been such a good friend and confidante to us all. We love you very much. Okay, okay, we know, you love us more!

Miss Helen Elizabeth Dickson
Passed Away: March 30, 2006
DICKSON – Helen Elizabeth was born on May 5, 1916 to William and Elizabeth Dickson who were farming Northeast of Pambrun, Saskatchewan. The Dickson’s were homesteaders of Irish origin who came to Canada by way of Pittsburg, Pennsylvania in 1909. To her dying day Miss Dickson was passionately proud of her Irish heritage. Miss Dickson took her schooling in the Ravenscrag school and completed her high school in Pambrun. After high school, Miss Dickson enrolled in the newly started Bible School in Pambrun. It was her father, William Dickson who had given the invitation to Rev. William Millar to come to Pambrun in 1932. Miss Dickson completed her Bible school and was part of the first graduating class of Millar Memorial Bible Institute in 1936. On Feb. 25, 1940, Miss Dickson boarded a freighter in St. John, New Brunswick bound for Kano, Nigeria. For 43 days the freighter zigzagged across the WWII Atlantic to avoid attack from German submarines. Miss Dickson served with Sudan Interior Mission in Kano until 1953 when she returned home for health reasons. She continued to serve with SIM in the office in Calgary until 1958. Miss Dickson returned to Pambrun and joined staff at Millar College where she taught until her retirement in the late 1980's. During the summers she traveled extensively in her beloved 1965 Ford Fairlane doing women's ministries and other meetings. As an instructor, Miss Dickson will long be remembered by those who were in her English grammar classes for her commitment to the proper use of the Queen's English. She will also be remembered for the courses she taught in public speaking and proper etiquette. There was a right and a wrong way to do just about everything and to her dying day Miss Dickson was always quite helpful in reminding us what the right way was. In spite of her strong and sometimes sharp opinions, Miss Dickson had a very generous heart. She spent countless hours hosting and canning and cooking and serving for others. She spent countless hours tutoring students, especially foreign students, who needed extra help with grammar or anything else for that matter. Miss Dickson was a great fan of royalty and she has followed the twists and turns of the Queen and the royal family for years. She also had a special place in her heart for the Mounties. It was like they belonged to her in some abstract way. The birds and the stray cats in Pambrun also had a faithful friend in Miss Dickson who fed them generously. Miss Dickson spent much time in prayer and Bible reading. It had been her custom to read through the entire Bible four times in a year, although in recent years she had slowed down to only three times through. But above all, she had a heart to see people come to know Jesus. Helen Elizabeth Dickson was predeceased by her parents, her sister Marie, her sister Sarah and husband Herbert W. Peeler, her brother John and his wife. She will be missed by her friends and relatives, especially those who knew her best. A funeral service was held on Monday, April 3, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at Millar College of the Bible, Pambrun, SK with Pastor Garry MacKay and Phil Ruten officiating. The organist was David Pollard. A tribute was given by Richard Bueckert and John Regier sang special music. The scripture reading was given by Ron Reynolds and benediction by George Hogman. The ushers for the service were: John Barbier and Gordon Johnston. The pallbearers were Junji Takahashi, Duane Johnston, Jerry Johnston, Lowell Wainman, Rod Gamble and Walter Funk. The interment was held at the Pambrun Cemetery, Pambrun, SK. Donations may be made to Millar College of the Bible in memory of Miss Dickson.
