Mrs. Myrtle Morgan
Passed Away: April 15, 2006
MORGAN Mrs. Myrtle Angeline, passed away on April 15, 2006 at the Cypress Regional Hospital in Swift Current, two months short of her 93rd birthday. Myrtle is survived by her loving husband, Sid Morgan; her step-sister, Phyllis Robertson (Orland); her son, Dennis Jensen (June); her step-daughter, Sharon Beutler (Richard); two grandchildren, Twyla Anderson (Duane) and Thane Jensen (Collette); three-step-grandchildren: Kim Zacuruk (Jim), Stacey Beutler and Cindy Beutler; four great-grandchildren: Kendra and Kordel Anderson and Elyce and Rielle Jensen; and two step-great-grandchildren, Alexander and Samantha Zacuruk. Myrtle was predeceased by her husband, Edwin Jensen; her parents, Albert and Alice Opheim; her stepfather, Sam Lien, and her stepsister, Thelma Coulter (Ed). She will be well remembered for her kind support of people, her strong sense of humor and her very positive outlook and upbeat demeanor. Many will remember her, Mrs. Nybo, and Mrs. Bell, providing exceptional trio renditions at many celebrations at St. Olaf’s and other Swift Current and area venues. She was also very involved with the Norwegian Singers. Myrtle and Sid were charter residents at “the Bentley” and enjoyed five plus very happy years living and participating in the many events offered at this residence. The family would like to express their thanks to the hospital staff and the Bentley for the care and support given to our wife, Mom and Grandma. The funeral service was held on Wednesday, April 19, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Olaf Lutheran Church with Pastor Amber Hoffman officiating. The organist was Arlene Olson and the soloist was Joyce Olesen. A tribute was read by her step-granddaughter, Kim Zacuruk. The pallbearers were: Thane Jensen, Calvin Gietz, Twyla Anderson, Louise Anderson, Darryl Wall and Lucien Laverdiere. The interment was held at Memory Gardens Cemetery, Swift Current, Saskatchewan. Memorial donations may be made to the St. Olaf Lutheran Church Memorial Fund or to the First United Church Memorial Fund.

Mr. Otto Wilfred Baumann
Passed Away: March 23, 2006
BAUMANN Mr. Otto Wilfred, passed away on March 23, 2006 at the Cypress Regional Hospital, Swift Current at the age of 76 years. Otto was born and raised in Braddock, SK on October 8, 1929 to Bill and Annie Baumann. Otto was predeceased by his wife, Madge, on September 14, 2002. They were married 55 years. Otto and Madge were also predeceased by their daughter, Wendy, on July 27, 1979; and their daughter-in-law, Sherry, on May 10, 2000. Otto leaves his sons, Tom Baumann, of Saskatoon, and Barry Baumann, of Shaunavon; daughter, Bonnie Kelly (Dal), of Oklahoma; and daughter-in-law, Charlene Baumann. Otto also leaves five grandchildren: Cindy, Ken, Brandi, Baillie, and Jordan; four great-grandchildren: Josh, Kristian, Brandon, and Kathleen. Otto farmed in the Braddock area, then he moved to Swift Current where he drove truck for Canada Post until his retirement. He enjoyed hunting with his sons and grandsons. His family was very important to him. He never missed a birthday call to his children, grandchildren, or great-grandchildren. His family and friends enjoyed his humor, wit and his toys. The Memorial Service was held on Saturday, March 25, 2006 at 3:00 p.m. at Parkside Memorial Funeral Chapel with Pastor Rob Cochrane officiating. The organist was Arlene Olson. The ushers were, Richard Owens and Terry Hanson. The Honorary pallbearers were: Bob and Joan Williamson, Bill and Joan Laughlin, Carl and Jane Baumann, Dal Kelly, Charlene Baumann and Kevin Kausman. The interment will take place at a later date at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Parkside Memorial Funeral Home, Swift Current, Saskatchewan.

Abe Friesen
Passed Away: March 18, 2006
FRIESEN – Abe passed away at the Cypress Regional Hospital on Saturday, March 18, 2006 at the age of 86 years. He was born on March 19, 1919 in the Wymark District. At the age of 21, he was baptized in the Sommerfeld Church in Wymark, SK. On April 27, 1941 Abe married Mary Martens and this union brought the blessing of nine children. They were married 62 years – mom was truly the love of his life. Abe was predeceased by his wife Mary on June 19, 2003; a son-in-law, Henry Leiding, a great-granddaughter at birth Jordan Walter; his mother Sarah Weins and his grandparents, Peter and Maria Friesen. He leaves to cherish in his memory four sons: Jake (Agnes), Abe (Sandra), Ron (Linda), Gary (Diane); five daughters: Carole Friesen, Linda Leiding, Maxine (Bruce) Letkeman, Debbie (Val) Emperingham, Louise (Lyle) Schuler; 30 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren. Over the years dad had many different jobs but then started to work at Sask Power as a diesel operator and was there until his retirement in 1979. During his retirement they were fortunate to be able to do some traveling. Dad loved his cars and he also loved his Bronco’s. He was a season ticket holder for many years. But most of all he loved his family. Our father, grandfather and great-grandfather was loved and will be missed dearly. We were all very blessed to have him in our lives. He has touched all our souls. We look at this not as an end but as a beginning for dad and we will one day see you again, in God’s Heavenly Home. We love you Dad. A funeral service was held on Thursday, March 23, 2006 at 1:30 p.m. from the Sommerfeld Mennonite Church with Reverend David Wiebe officiating. The pallbearers were grandsons: David Friesen, Kevin Friesen, Evan Emperingham, Stacey Letkeman, Russel Banman and Devon Leiding. The interment took place at Schanzenfeld Cemetery, Wymark District. Memorial donations may be made to the Kidney Foundation, the Diabetes. Association or to the Canadian Cancer Society.

Embert Omar Anderson
Passed Away: March 9, 2006
ANDERSON – Embert Omar age 83 of Swift Current, SK passed away on Thursday, March 9, 2006. Funeral services were held on Monday, March 13, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. from St. Olaf Lutheran Church with Pastor Amber Hoffman officiating. The ushers were Brian Knight and James Macaulay. The organist was Arlene Olson and soloist was Joyce Olesen. The interment took place at Memory Gardens Cemetery, Swift Current, SK. The pallbearers were grandsons: Gerald Thurber, Lance Anderson, Wade Anderson, Dave Nadon and Tyler Cates. Embert is survived by his wife Ruby (nee Pretty); his children Donna Thurber, Raymond (Janet) Anderson, Douglas Anderson, Dianne Anderson and Kathy (Dale) Cates; fifteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren and one sister, Margaret. He was predeceased by his parents, Nella and Emil Anderson, a son Ellwood, brother Arnold and his sister Doreen. Embert was born in Swift Current on August 29, 1922. He attended the Fairhills School and was united in marriage to Ruby Pretty on October 27, 1942. Embert farmed for many years in the Stewart Valley and Success areas. In 1948 he moved to Moose Jay and worked for the B.A. Oil Refinery. He later started a business with Ronnie Harding building houses. In 1955 the family returned to this area to farm. He was the Reeve of R.M. of Sask Landing No 167 for 1971 to 1975. In 1975 they retired from farming and moved to Swift Current where he sold farm machinery for CCIL and later became a Realtor with Century 21. Embert always enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was always involved in the community and enjoyed curling, bowling, golf, traveling and playing cards with friends. Embert’s stories were enjoyed by all. He will be fondly remembered and missed by his family and many friends. Memorial donations may be made to St. Olaf Lutheran Church Memorial Fund or to the Heart & Stroke Foundation in memory of Embert.

Darrell Rude
Passed Away: February 20, 2006
RUDE – Darrell – We are saddened to announce the sudden passing of Darrell Myrl Rude on February 20, 2006 at the age of 56. He was a devoted husband, father and son who will be sadly missed by his wife Sue; daughters, Renee and Tamera; son Iver; parents, Iver & Hazel Rude. Darrell is also survived by three sisters; Sylvia (Danny) Nelson, Janice (Blaine) Platzke, Deb (Tony) Bollinger; numerous nieces and nephews; mother & father-in-law, Carmen and Nazzareno Vassallo; seven brothers-in-law; Joe (Kelina), Louis (Tonia), Charlie (Loreen), Loreta (Antida), Johnny (Jeanette), Vince (Ruth) Rueben (Natasha) and 2 sisters-in-law, Miriam (George) and Rita (Charlie). Darrell was born on June 11, 1949 at the hospital in Matsqui, B.C. He grew up on the family farm north of Webb, SK where he enjoyed hunting, snowmobiling and riding his quarter horse, Pet. He enjoyed helping his dad with all aspects of farming, including the cattle. His oilfield career began on the rigs, which took him to the Arctic and eventually to the oil fields of Libya. It was on his month off work while living on the island of Malta that he met the love of his life, “Sue”. They were married in Swift Current, SK on September 7, 1985. Renee was born two short years later on March 31, 1987 in Swift Current. Tamera was born in Red Deer, AB on July 9, 1989 and Iver Shaun was born on November 14, 1992 on the island of Malta. After his work took them to Alberta and then Malta they returned to Swift Current in 1994 where it has remained home for the family. Grandma & Grandpa Rude enjoyed having them home as much as Grandma & Grandpa Vassallo hated to see them leave. They enjoyed watching them grow and develop into the wonderful young people they are today. Darrell was very involved in their life, taking them wherever they needed to go and he spent many hours on the road and in the rink with hockey. He was very proud of all his children and as for most parents it was very hard to part with Renee when she started University in Saskatoon last fall. Darrell lived a life with no regrets, no complaints and nothing ever left undone. He helped anyone, anytime, all they had to do was ask. He is forever in our hearts and minds. Donations in Darrell’s memory may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation. Prayer services were held on Friday, February 24, 2006 at Parkside Memorial Funeral Home and the Funeral Mass was held on Saturday, February 25, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church with Father Sathiadas Antony officiating. The ushers were Brent and Heather Robison and the pallbearers were: Blaine Platzke, Tony Bollinger, Daniel Nelson, Jason Nelson, Craig Nelson and Clint Nelson. The interment took place at Bruflat Jensen Lutheran Cemetery, north of Webb near the family farm. He will be buried on the land that he owned and that his grandfather homesteaded in 1901. Arrangements were entrusted to Parkside Memorial Funeral Home, Swift Current, SK.

Jacob L. Wall
Passed Away: February 10, 2006
WALL Mr. Jacob L. – aged 85 years of Swift Current and formerly of Wymark, passed away on February 10, 2006 at the Cypress Regional Hospital in Swift Current. The funeral service was held on Wednesday, February 15, 2006 at the Zion Mennonite Church with Pastor Fred Heese officiating and Grace Funk as organist. The pallbearers were grandsons: Kevin Speir, Robin Wall, Michael Wall, Shaun Redmond, Jason Finkbeiner, Dave Dewalt and close friend, Frank Lachowitzer. The eulogists were, son-in-law, Dale Finkbeiner, and daughter-in-law, Linda Wall. The ushers were, Dennis Loeppky and Ken Dyck. Special music was performed by Gospel Favorites. The interment took place at Mount Pleasant Burial Park. Jake is survived by his loving children: Eva Speir (Barry Severson), of Swift Current; her son, Kevin Speir, and grandson, Darren; son, Fred (Linda) Wall, of Pambrun, children, Robin (Kerry) Wall and their son, Reed, Lorenne (Murray) Wall and their son, Aiden; daughter, Clara (Dale) Finkbeiner, of Swift Current, and their son, Jason (Angie) Finkbeiner; daughter, Edna (Dale) Redmond, of Swift Current and their children, Shaun (Christa) Redmond and their son, Liam, Treena (Ken) Lloyd and their daughters, Alisha (Jody), Amber, and their granddaughter, Kaydra, Cora (James) McPhail and their children, Triston and Shianne; daughter, Bertha Wall of Swift Current, and her children, Cheryl (Dave) Dewalt and their children, Alysha and Tyler; and her son, Trevor Funk; Michael and Stephanie Wall of Calgary (John’s children). Jake is also survived by sisters: Anne Kehler, Swift Current, Tina Wiebe, B.C., Helen Dyck, AB, Margaret Dyck, B.C., Elizabeth Dyck, Swift Current; brothers: Herman (Rita), Swift Current, Bill (Marilyn) Swift Current, and John, AB; sisters and brothers-in-law: Jacob and Anne Wiebe, Vanderhoof B.C., William Braun, Saskatoon, Abe (Tina) Braun, Le Crete, AB; as well as many nieces and nephews. Jake was predeceased by his parents. Henry and Maria Wall; his son, John, October 7, 1998, and three months later by his wife, Agnes, January 7, 1999; and son-in-law, Allan Speir, April 1984; as well as brothers, Henry and Abe; sisters, Mary Braun and Agnes Harder. He was also predeceased by his sisters and brothers-in-law: Marie Wall, Tina Wall, Maria Wall, John Braun, Pete Braun, Jacob Wiebe, Nick Kehler and Peter Dyck. Dad was born March 23, 1920 in the Dunelm District southwest of Swift Current. He married Agnes Braun on July 28, 1942. They were blessed with four daughters and two sons. They resided in Wymark until 1974 at which time they moved to Swift Current. Jake worked as a mechanic for 33 years at various places, many of those years he was employed by Roy Warner at Roy’s service. He later became employed at the E.I. Wood building and the Court House as a caretaker, until his retirement in 1985. Dad worked hard to provide for his family and had to endure many winter storms to make it to work in Swift Current, while Mom remained at home raising six children. Jake’s hobbies were: fishing, woodworking and playing his many musical instruments, the mandolin being his favorite. In his younger years he spent many hours playing for family and friends to enjoy. After the passing of his wife and son, Jake became a private man and seemed to prefer being alone. He was able to live on his own at his residence until his passing, despite never visiting a doctor or being hospitalized during his entire adult years, except for the last two days of his life. He will be dearly missed and always remembered by his loving family. Donations in Jake’s memory can be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or to the charity of your choice. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Parkside Memorial Funeral Home, Swift Current, Saskatchewan.

Helena Dyck
Passed Away: February 3, 2006
DYCK – HELENA age 87 years of Swift Current, formerly of Herbert, passed away peacefully with her family by her side at the Herbert-Morse Union Hospital on Friday, February 3, 2006. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, February 8, 2006 at 3:00 p.m. from Eastside Church of God with Pastor Ken Epp officiating. The Organist was Jim Neufeld and the ushers were grandsons; Kevin Dyck and Ashley Dyck. The eulogy was read by daughter-in-law Vi Dyck. The pallbearers were her grandsons: Ron Dyck, Albert Dyck, Keith Dixon, Darrel Rude, Rocky Fehr and Marlon Dyck. The interment took place at the Herbert Cemetery, Herbert, SK. She is survived by her loving children: John of Swift Current, Cornie (Joe) of Regina, Henry (Bev) of Regina, Mary (Walter) Dixon of Swift Current, Annie Dyck of Swift Current, Kathy (Reg) Rude of Swift Current; daughter-in-law Vi Dyck of Swift Current, Roy (Norma) Dyck of Swift Current and Ben Dyck of Swift Current. She is also survived by 24 grandchildren, 51 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great-grandchildren, 4 sisters; Mary Granger of Regina, Susie Unger of Calgary, Kay of B.C. and Judy Thiesen of Manitoba. She is predeceased by her husband, Peter E. Dyck and also by 4 children; Peter, Edna, Abe, and Elmer; 2 daughters-in-law, Murgie, Ann; 4 grandchildren: Stephen Dyck, Beverly, Myrna and Stephen Dixon; 6 brothers: Dave Hiebert, John, Ron, Jake, Henry and Abe Schulze. Helena was born on June 30, 1918 at Cruikshank, SK. She left home at the age of 13 to work on a farm. A few years later she met the love of her life, Peter E. Dyck. They were married on September 19, 1937. They first resided in Main Center, SK They later moved to Rostern where they had there first born. They later had 6 more children. The moved to the town of Herbert in 1947 where they had 4 more children. They resided in Herbert until the passing of her husband in 1979. Her children then moved her to Swift Current where most of her children where living. Mom loved to be with her family, she loved camping and going out for coffee with them. She was known as “Husky Grandma” and everybody loved her. Mom also enjoyed going to Bingo. She also liked to watch the Tele Miracle on T.V. She was a big collector of dolls, stuffed animals and nick-nacs. She also loved watching her daytime soaps. She was also a big animal lover. Mom enjoyed life and always had a smile and a hug for everyone and it didn’t matter who you were. Mom loved her garden and plants and they were always so beautiful. Her favorite color was purple or mauve. Helena will be deeply missed and always remembered by her family and friends. She touched the hearts of all those who knew her. Mom was the angel of all time. “We love you mom and will always miss you”. Donations in her memory can be made to the Tele-Miracle Foundation c/o Kathy Rude 33 7th Ave. N.E. Swift Current, SK.
