Joyce Gwendolyn Payak
On Monday, August 9, 1999, Joyce Gwendolyn Payak, late of Weyburn, passed away at Weyburn General Hospital at the age of 82 years. Predeceased by her parents: Joseph and Devilla Barry, and by her husband, Mike Payak in 1998. Joyce will be lovingly remembered by her family: one daughter, Maryann (Jim) Uhl of Devon, AB, and one son, Don (Charlotte) Payak of Weyburn; five grandchildren
: Joyann (Reg) Francis of Fort Saskatchewan, AB; Sonya Uhl of Port Coquitlam, BC; Steven (Meredith) Uhl of Port Coquitlam; Chris Payak of Weyburn; and Kimberly Payak of Weyburn; four great granddaughters: Andi, Brandi, Courtney and Samantha Francis; one brother, Don (Donna) Barry of Kimberley, BC; as well as several nieces and nephews. Joyce was born at Waskada, MB on June 2, 1917. Her father worked on the railway, and so the family lived in various parts of Manitoba while she was growing up. After her parents' deaths in the early 40's she came to Regina to work with the threshing crews and visited with her cousins Gladys (Ernie) Smye and Opal (Bill) Elyk in the Weyburn Plains district. They introduced her to their neighbour, Mike Payak. Joyce and Mike were married November 2, 1946. They farmed in the Weyburn Plains area until their retirement in 1980, when their son Don took over the farm. After their retirement, they enjoyed travelling the first few years, touring Australia, New Zealand, Tahiti, California, and Mexico, as well as several motorhome trips from coast to coast in Canada. They continued to live on the farm until December 1997 when their failing health required a move to Weyburn. Joyce enjoyed her flowers, her pets, and bird watching. Prayers were said Wednesday, August 11, 1999 at 7:00 p.m. from Fletcher Funeral Chapel, Weyburn, with Father Hengen presiding. The funeral mass was held Thursday, August 12 at 10:30 a.m. from St. Vincent de Paul Roman Catholic Church, Weyburn, with Father Francis Hengen celebrant. Interment followed in Hillcrest Cemetery, Weyburn. All those in attendance were considered to be honorary pallbearers. The active pallbearers were Bruce Croal, Frank Payonk, Richard Tollefson, Larry Fleming, Lloyd Culham and Dean Stewart. For friends so wishing, donations may be made to a charity of choice, in her memory. Arrangements were entrusted to Fletcher Funeral Chapels Ltd., Weyburn.
Arthur Edwin Muma
Arthur Edwin Muma passed away at Weyburn on Saturday, August 14, 1999 at the age of 88 years. He was born in Marquis, SK and attended school in Marquis and Keeler. In 1937 he married Thelma Gallagher. Art went to teachers college in Moose Jaw and taught school for several years in different places including Primate, Drinkwater and Wood Mountain. He began working as a rural municipal administrator in Flaxcombe in the early 1940's and took classes to obtain the necessary certificates of qualification, eventually obtaining the advanced Superior "A" Certificate. He continued to do this type of work in various places including Morse, Spring Valley and Estevan until his retirement in 1977. During his time in Estevan he was on the board of the St. Paul's United Church. He and Thelma enjoyed entertaining, playing bridge and visiting with friends and family until they were forced by ill health to move to the Crocus Plains Villa in Weyburn. Arthur was predeceased by his parents, John and Mary Muma, two sisters, Mabel and Marion and one brother, John. Arthur will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 62 years, Thelma of Weyburn, two sons: Lloyd (Janie) Muma of Weyburn and James (Julie) Muma of Calgary; five grandchildren: Dana Muma (Peter Steckhan), Scott (Tina) Muma, Kelsey Muma, Jodie Muma and Jason Muma; one great granddaughter, Jenna Muma, three sisters: Minnie Wilson of Maple Creek; Sarah Muma of Ottawa and Edna (Don) Holyoke of Norman, OK, USA; as well as many nieces and nephews. Funeral service was held Monday, August 16 at 2:00 p.m. from Grace United Church, Weyburn, with Marilyn Anderson Corkum officiating minister. Interment followed in Green Acres Memorial Gardens, Weyburn. All those in attendance were considered to be honorary pallbearers. The active pallbearers were Scott Muma, Kelsey Muma, Peter Steckhan, Lou Stang, Larry Watson and Ron Watson. Donations may be made in his memory to the Grace United Church Building Fund. John David Babbings
On Sunday, August 15, 1999, John David Babbings passed away peacefully at the age of 88 years. Predeceased by his parents, David and Alice Babbings and by one sister, Ethel Olson. John will be lovingly remembered by his loving wife of 59 years, Ruby Babbings of Weyburn; his children: Marlene (Leonard) Pelletier of Surrey, BC; Sharon (Charles) Lees of Estevan; Jack (Karen) Babbings of Lower Sackville, NS; and Ron (Lynn) Babbings of Weyburn; nine grandchildren: Judy (Rick) Olmstead, Janice Osarchuk, Jeff Pelletier, Candace (Theron) Mattei, Collin (Melinda) Lees, Nathan (Brandy) Babbings, Gregory Babbings, Mark Babbings and Jarrod Babbings; three great grandchildren: Vanessa Osarchuk, Jake Olmstead and Tyrel Mattei; two sisters: Laura Eggleton of Welland, ON and Beatrice Naggy of Port Colburne, ON; as well as several nieces and nephews. John was born in Carnduff and he grew up in the Frobisher area. On November 27, 1940, John married Ruby Long in Estevan. They lived in Hirsh, Oxbow, Estevan, and then in 1970 moved to Weyburn. John was a long time employee of Barber Motors as a mechanic and caretaker. He was extremely fond of dogs and always enjoyed fishing. He became a resident of Souris Valley Regional Care Centre in October of 1992 where he resided until his passing, August 15. A memorial service was held Wednesday, August 18 at 2:00 p.m. from Fletcher Funeral Chapel, Weyburn, with Marilyn Anderson Corkum officiating minister. Interment followed in Hillcrest Cemetery, Weyburn. All those in attendance were considered to be honorary pallbearers. Marion Ruby Stewart
Aug. 26, 1918-Aug. 9, 1999
Marion Ruby Stewart, formerly of Fillmore, passed away suddenly, August 9, 1999 in Calgary. She leaves to mourn her loving daughter and best friend, Doreen (Wes) Stainger, also of Calgary. Marion is also survived by three sisters: Rosamond (Duke) Stafford, Edmonton; Jean Treble and Lill Ogden and one brother Alex (Enid) Stewart, all of Fillmore; and one sister-in-law Helen Stewart, Weyburn, as well as several loving nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by one brother Doug, one nephew Wyman Treble, and her parents Edith and Fletcher Stewart. Memorial service was held in Grace United Church, Fillmore, on August 14. Interment took place at Fillmore cemetery. Marion grew up on the farm at Fillmore, attended High Prairie and Fillmore schools. She married Phil Goski in 1942. They moved to Regina in 1958. Marion and Doreen moved to Calgary in 1965 where she resided until her death. She worked in a nursing home, a lodge and a school cafeteria before retiring in 1983. Marion spent her last five years in Jaques Lodge where she enjoyed bingo, cards, playing the piano and socializing. Fillmore United Church was filled with family and friends who came to pay their last respects. The family wishes to thank all those who helped in the service in anyway: Rev. Heather Lea, Elaine Morris (organist), Terry Hanson (guitarist), the choir, the trio (Judy Smith, Karen Conquergood, Gerry Muir), the reading (Loral Stewart), Bob Hanson, Harvey Stewart, Blair Stewart and Orley Treble, ladies of the church who supplied lunch after the service, those who supplied beautiful bouquets of flowers, ladies of the community who brought food to the homes of Lill, Jean and Alex. A very special thank you to Audrey Audette (Lethbridge) for her caring, loving concern to Doreen and Wes.
Ethel Rebecca Chamberlain
On Tuesday, August 10, 1999, Ethel Rebecca Chamberlain, late of Weyburn, passed away at the age of 91 years. Predeceased by her parents, George and Fanny Chamberlain; two brothers: George Chamberlain and Harry Chamberlain; two sisters: Cora Chamberlain and Alice Knutson; one nephew, Austin; and one sister-in-law, Bessie Chamberlain. Ethel is survived by one niece, Lynette Chamberlain of Regina; one nephew, Joe (Joan) Chamberlain of Brandon, MB; very close friend, Sharon Seibel; as well as several great nieces and nephews and friends. Ethel was born in Bracebridge, ON on February 28, 1908. She came west in 1909 to Milestone, SK and attended school at Querrin, SK. She did domestic work for a number of years. Ethel worked as a desk clerk in hotels in Lafleche and Kincaid from 1937 to 1968, until moving to Weyburn in 1986, where she worked at the Town and Country Restaurant. When her sister Alice took sick, she looked after her for four years in a wheel chair, and when she passed away, Ethel looked after her brother-in-law until his death. The house was sold and Ethel moved to the Van Dusen apartments. Funeral service was held Saturday, August 14 at 1:00 p.m. from Fletcher Funeral Chapel, Weyburn, with Marilyn Anderson Corkum officiating minister. Interment followed in Hillcrest Cemetery, Weyburn. All those in attendance were considered to be honorary pallbearers. Her two nephews, Curtis and Kyle Chamberlain served as active pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Regina Firefighters Department, Burn Unit, Box 1790, Regina, SK S4P 3C8. E.L. (Lou) Lawrence
E.L. (Lou) Lawrence, beloved husband of Ethel, passed away at Weyburn General Hospital on Sunday, August 22, 1999 at the age of 79 years. He was predeceased by his father and mother, Gesner and Sarah Lawrence; and one sister, Rosina Underwood. Lou will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Ethel of Weyburn, two sons: Grant (Kathie) Lawrence of Courtenay, BC and Jim (Pat) Lawrence of Calgary, AB. He was the proud grandfather of John (Joanne) Lawrence of Victoria; Tracey Lawrence of Courtenay; and Craig, Kirby and Bob Lawrence of Calgary; the great grandfather of Kate, Megan, and Adam, and the brother of Evelyn (Merlin) Bell of Weyburn and Lillian (Neil) McCaskill of Paradise Village, MB. Lou was born January 16, 1920 in Belmont, MB. He and his sisters: Rosina, Evelyn and Lillian received their education at Colgate, SK. In June 1937, Lou graduated from grade 12. He joined the RCAF in 1941, spending four and one half years in the service of his king and country, and rising to the rank of sergeant. In September of 1942, Lou married Ethel M. Morgan of Maxim, SK. Following WWII he worked as an electrician in Weyburn, establishing his own electrical contracting firm, Central Electric, in 1950. He joined the electrical department at the Saskatchewan Hospital in December, 1963, retiring as head electrician in December 1983. His retirement years were spent golf, travelling, tending his beloved flowers and enjoying his grandchildren. His great fondness for card games, crossword puzzles, reading, curling, and golf, and his unsurpassed love for and kindness toward his relatives and friends will be fondly remembered. Funeral service will be held Thursday, August 26, at 2:00 p.m. from Grace United Church, Weyburn, with Marilyn Anderson Corkum officiating minister. Interment to follow in Green Acres Memorial Gardens, Weyburn. Honorary pallbearers: Don Turner, Lloyd Covert, John Cox, Bob Michel, Mel Doyle, and Sid Wilson. Marie Reine Deschambault
On Wednesday, August 18, 1999, Marie Reine Deschambault, late of Radville, passed away at the Marian Health Centre, Radville, at the age of 86 years. Predeceased by her father and mother, Sylva and Victoria Bourassa; her husband, Edward, 1973; two sons: Emile, 1949 and Gilbert, 1993; one great grandchild, Kipp Mohns; two brothers: Gustave and Adrian Bourassa; and one sister, Rosine Cyr. Marie is survived by her children: Lea (Donny McLeod) Van De Sype of Radville and her children: Karen, Glenn, Randy, Gaylene, Brent and Caroline; Denise (Dave) Mohns of Hinton, AB and their children: Sherry, Shane, Trevor and Troy; Doris (Duke) Pearson of Hamilton, ON and their children: Scott and Dean; Reina (Lyle) Hammer of Calgary, AB and their children: Todd and Twyla; Alice (Dennis) Cherpin of Radville and their children: Kerry, Dale and Trent; Laurie (Mary Lou) Deschambault of Campbell River, BC and their children: Tracy, Carrie and Tanya; one daughter-in-law, Carol Deschambault of Campbell River, BC and their children: Shelley and Brenda; 26 great grandchildren; three sisters: Yvonne Cyr of Weyburn; Aline Cote of Edmonton, AB; and Florence (Frank) Gagnon of Radville; three brothers: Mike (Angie) Bourassa of Calgary, AB; Gerald (Margaret) Bourassa of Trenton, ON; and Harve Bourassa of San Francisco, Calif.; several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law and many nieces and nephews. Marie came into this world May 24, 1913; the second of ten children born to Sylva and Victoria Bourassa of St. Colette, SK. She married Edward Deschambault at Holy Family church in November, 1936. In 1939 they bought and settled on their uncle Dominique Morrissette's farm seven miles east of Radville. They moved to town in 1955 and in 1960 sold the farm to their son-in-law, Earl Van De Sype. Marie raised 100 turkeys every year while on the farm to help supplement the income. In 1955 they moved their house to town and rented the basement for a few years, then rented to men borders. Marie, with Ed's help, cooked for 29 men, the carpenters who built the United Church and the Regional High School in Radville. She also cooked for the many oil crews throughout the years and was well known for her tasty, hearty meals and her delicious pastries and desserts. Marie and Ed raised a family of eight, five girls and three boys. After the death of her husband, Marie sold her home in 1973 and moved to Mrs. Lil Van De Sype's. In 1976 when the Golden Heritage opened, she moved there. Marie loved family and friends and her door was always open for visitors. She was always ready to lend a helping hand to her fellow residents at the Golden Heritage. She enjoyed sewing, knitting and crocheting as long as her arthritis let her. Her favorite pastime was card playing and she spent many an evening with friends, gathered around the kitchen table playing cards. In June of 1989, due to ill health, she moved to the Radville Marian Home, where she resided until her passing on August 18, 1999. Prayers were said Friday, August 20 at 7:30 p.m. from Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, Radville. The funeral mass was held Saturday, August 21 at 10:30 a.m. from Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, Radville, with Father Brian Meredith Celebrant. Pallbearers were: Kerry, Dale and Trent Cherpin, Caroline Chartrand, Randy and Glenn Van De Sype. Cremation with interment to follow in Laurier Cemetery, Radville. For friends so wishing, donations may be made in her memory to the Radville Marian Health Centre Palliative Care Unit or to the Alzheimer Society. Marion Ruth Butt
Marion Ruth Butt passed away Tuesday, July 27, 1999 in Palmerston Hospital. Wife of the late Lloyd Butt; daughter of the late Wm and Birdie Thackeray. Dear mother of: Gordon, Gerald and Bernice, David, Eleanor and Brad Jay, Mary Evelyn and Bill Stevens. Ten grandsons and two great grandsons. Survived by two sisters: Grace and Elsie. Service Friday, July 30. Interment in Harriston, Ontario cemetery.
Clifford Russell Elford
Clifford Russell Elford now rests in the comfort of Heaven. Clifford died in the Moose Jaw Union Hospital on Monday, August 16, 1999 at the age of 85 years. Beloved father to Hope (Gerald) Beedle of Kelowna, BC and Stewart (Loretta) of Regina, adored grandfather of Juanita (Johannes) Wehrmann of Saskatoon, brother of Chester (Hazel), Pansy (Clarence) Bien, Ed (Helen), Eva McCutcheon, Ruby Elford, Edna (Arnold) Knutson, Ada (Hugh) McBride, Melvin (Sandra) Jacobs, and uncle and friend to many. Clifford was predeceased by his wife Annie, his parents Russell and Annie, his sister Ruby Olson, brother George and brother-in-law Walter McCutcheon. Clifford, the third son of Russell and Annie Grummett Elford, was born at Pangman, SK July 11, 1914. In 1915 his father filed a homestead in the Horse Creek district. Clifford went to Patriotic and Lark Hill Schools. at an early age he left school and went to work. His conversion to the Lord at a young age would shape the rest of his life and he never lost faith in following that path laid out for him by the Master's hand. Clifford attended winter Bible schools at Ogema and Radville. He did farm work in the Esme district near Vanguard, SK and then went to Kisbey where he met the love of his life, Annie Hugo and they were married March 4, 1940. They moved to Horse Creek where their daughter, Hope, and son Stewart were born. In 1947 they moved back to Kisbey and in 1949 they took over the telephone exchange with Annie running the switchboard and Clifford being the lineman. He also worked for CPR and RM of Brock. Later Clifford drove truck in the oil patch and then worked as a grader operator in various R.M.s: Browning, Hodgeville, McAuley, MB, Lake Alma and finally back to the Brock R.M. before retiring in 1982 to live in Kisbey. Due to Annie's poor health they moved to the Legion Towers in Weyburn. Clifford remained in Weyburn after his beloved wife's death until the middle of this past year when he moved to Moose Jaw and was presently residing at Pioneer Village. Clifford will be lovingly remembered by all who knew him as a gentle man of God, a good samaritan and faithful servant in every community in which he lived. He was a sincere family man who loved and cherished his wife and family. He was a man who deeply believed in his church, which he served faithfully throughout his years. Stewart, Hope and Juanita gratefully acknowledge the daily care and support provided to Clifford by his sisters and brothers, especially during these last months as he struggled with cancer. The funeral service was held on Thursday, August 19 at 1:30 p.m. in the Kisbey Recreation Centre with Mr. Dan Wieb and Mr. Russell Ferris officiating. Special chosen hymns were led by Mr. James Willett. Ushers were Mark Elford and Marvin Bandura. Interment followed in the Percy cemetery. Pallbearers were nephews: Mark Elford, Vernon Knutson, Gerald McCutcheon, Rodney Jacobs, Allen Bien and Calvin Elford. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Piche-Hawkins Funeral Chapels, Gravelbourg, Assiniboia.
Frances Margaret Unilowsky
On Saturday, August 14, 1999, Frances Margaret Unilowsky, late of Weyburn, passed away at the Weyburn General Hospital at the age of 78 years. Predeceased by her parents, Carl and Eugenia Nagel; her husband, Colonel; brother Edward and one daughter, Beverly Roy. Frances will be lovingly remembered by her family: two daughters: Carol Van De Sype of Radville and Debbie Barlow (Roger) of Fruitvale, BC; seven grandchildren: Terry Brothen (Lorna) of Shaunavon; Kristine Coghill (Royce) of Weyburn; Sheryl Janzen (Darryl) of Tisdale; Jason Roy (Chrissy) of Weyburn; Sara Barlow of Calgary; Christopher Barlow (Jodie) of Grand Cache; and Tamara Roy of Weyburn; eight great grandchildren; five sisters and three brothers; as well as many nieces and nephews. Frances was born July 1, 1921 in Spring Valley, where she was raised and educated. She then took Home Ec. in Claybank. She came from a large family, with five sisters and four brothers. In April, 1944 she married Colonel Unilowsky. They lived in Trail, BC for eight years before settling in Weyburn. Frances was employed with the Eaton's Company for many years until retiring in 1986, where upon she took a career as a bingo player. She also enjoyed playing cribbage, cards and going downtown for coffee with friends and became a professional gadabout. She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul and of St. Mary's Altar Society, and would set up for mass at Bison Manor. She canvassed for the Canadian Cancer Society, Diabetes. Association and the Heart and Stroke Foundation. She organized many activities within Bison Manor and enjoyed living there very much. Prayers were said at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, August 17 from St. Vincent de Paul Roman Catholic Church. The funeral mass was held Wednesday, August 18 at 10:30 a.m. from St. Vincent de Paul Roman Catholic Church, Weyburn, with Father Frances Hengen Celebrant. All those in attendance were considered to be honorary pallbearers. The active pallbearers were: Gerald Nagel, Carl Nagel, Fred Nagel, Jeff Thurston, Jason Roy and Roger Barlow. Cremation with interment followed on Friday, August 20 in Hillcrest Cemetery, Weyburn. For friends so wishing, donations may be made in her memory to the Canadian Diabetic Association or to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. George R Dickson
George R Dickson passed away peacefully Saturday, August 14, 1999 at the age of 86 years. George was born in Weyburn. George made many friends in Weyburn and while living in Regina, Winnipeg and Calgary before moving to Vancouver in 1948 and finally settling with his beloved wife, Janet in White Rock, BC in 1989. Janet predeceased George in December 1996. George is survived by his two sons John of Prince Rupert, BC and Richard of Vancouver; six grandchildren. A memorial service was held Monday, August 23 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Fraser Heights Funeral Home, Surrey. In lieu of flowers, donations in George's name may be made to the Salvation Army.
Lance Clarence Caldwell
Lance Clarence Caldwell of Trossachs, SK passed away peacefully at the Weyburn General Hospital on Monday, August 23, 1999 at the age of 74 years and 11 months, after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was born September 11, 1924 and was raised in the Radville area. He attended Great West School. As a young man, he worked on various threshing crews for John Eckbloom, Godfrey Thompson and Sherm VanDeSype, hauling bundles and doing the farming with his team of horses. He also took pride in some of his coyote hunts with his hounds. In 1948, Lance ventured to poplar Point, MB where he worked two summers at the PFRA for Tom Ladler. He then returned to Carievale where he worked one summer for his uncles. In 1952, he ventured into farming in the Clearfield area for three years before returning home. On April 10, 1956 he married Irene Verbeurgt of Ceylon. On April 16, 1956 they moved to a farm north of Trossachs where he resided at the present time. Lance enjoyed playing hockey out on the slough in the crisp winter air and in summer baseball. He also enjoyed playing cards, attending horse sales and rodeos, and most of all spending time with his animals and entertaining his grandchildren. Lance was predeceased by his parents, George on July 25, 1975 and Wilhelmina on August 20, 1981, brother-in-law, Lyle Guest on November 10, 1979, mother-in-law Gabriella Verbeurgt, December 16, 1978, father-in-law, Albert Verbeurgt, May 13, 1991 and one young brother-in-law, Douglas. Lance is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Irene of Trossachs; one daughter, Elaine (Gordon) Myer and children Tyler and Leanne of Weyburn; three sons: George Caldwell and daughter Bobie (Barb Simpson and Christan), Lorna Caldwell of Weyburn; Blaine Caldwell (Wendy Melton and Chase) and his children: Dustin of Trossachs, Lacey and Tifane of Nelson, BC, Karen Caldwell of Nelson, BC; Roland (Brenda) and son Brodie as well as step-grandchildren: Chantel, Melissa and Joseph Eberts of Trossachs; three brothers: Ken Caldwell, Lloyd (Rosalind) Caldwell and Allan (Karen) Caldwell, all of Radville; two sisters: Inez Guest of Trossachs, and Jean (Phil) Stratulat of Radville; four brothers-in-law: Prosper of Ceylon, Arnold (Eileen) of Weyburn, Gilbert (Rosemarie) of Ceylon and Howard (Kathleen) of Airdrie, AB; one sister-in-law, Doreen (Barry) Armstrong of Fort Qu'Appelle, SK; and numerous other relatives, nieces and nephews. Funeral service was held Thursday, August 26, at 2:00 p.m. from All Saints Anglican Church, Weyburn, with Rev. David Holmes officiating. Interment followed in Hillcrest Cemetery, Weyburn. All those in attendance were considered to be honorary pallbearers. The active pallbearers were: Dennis Davenport, Floyd Cleveland, Arvid Thue, Ralph Hoffart, Victor Tessier and James Beard. Muriel L. Potts
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Muriel L. Potts (nee Fleming). Muriel found everlasting peace and comfort on Tuesday, August 24, 1999. She was predeceased by her parents, Herb and Helen Fleming of Radville, SK; one brother, Bill, son Kenneth Potts in 1962, and a daughter, Sharon Johnson in 1991. She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her husband of 59 years, John Potts, daughter Connie (Roger) Phillips of Black Diamond, AB; son-in-law, Jerry Johnson of Swift River Lodge, Yukon; four grandchildren: Kelly Johnson of Saskatoon, Rob (Erin) Johnson of Whitehorse, Yukon, Ken (Sheila) Farr of Kelowna, and Dan (Victoria) Phillips of Lethbridge, AB; great grandchildren: Dustin and Danielle Farr and Levi Johnson; two sisters, Lorraine (Arnold) Fournier of Maberly, ON, and Rosella (John) Erickson of Radville; four brothers: Gordon (Blanche) Fleming and Glen (Millie) Fleming, both of Weyburn; Lyle Fleming of Fort Saskatchewan, AB; and Roy (Karen) Fleming of Saskatoon; one sister-in-law, Leola Fleming of Gainsborough; as well as many nieces and nephews. Muriel Lucy Potts was born December 21, 1918 in Radville. She spent her early years growing up on the family farm at Brooking. She attended Buffalo Valley school and acquired her grade 8, continuing with correspondence to receive her grade nine. Muriel's greatest love was family. She met and married John Potts, July 29, 1940. They had 59 years together before her passing. In addition to providing her family with constant enjoyment and love, she loved bowling. She managed Pal's lanes for 11 years during which time she helped organize YBC bowling in Weyburn. Muriel's favorite saying was "Bowling should be for fun, exercise and socializing." She continued to enjoy watching bowling after she was unable to participate herself due to health problems. In fact, Muriel loved all sports from the Toronto Blue Jays to the Edmonton Oilers. It was great fun to listen to Muriel criticize the referees and umpires because they made a call she didn't agree with. Muriel will be missed for her quick smile and loving, caring ways. She's gone but hardly forgotten. Funeral service was held Saturday, August 28 at 10:00 a.m. from Fletcher Funeral Chapel, Weyburn, with Rev. John Ferrier officiating. Interment followed in Hillcrest Cemetery, Weyburn. All those in attendance were considered to be honorary pallbearers. The active pallbearers were: Duane, Kenneth, Larry, Kevin and Lorne Fleming and Chris Payak. For friends so wishing, donations may be made in her memory to the ALS Society (Lou Gehrig's Disease). Murray Martin Wiles
On Thursday, August 19, 1999 Murray Martin Wiles of Weyburn, passed away at the age of 53 years. Predeceased by his father, Roy Wiles. Murray is survived by his wife, Diane Wiles of Weyburn; his mother Gladys Wiles of Ogema; his brothers and sisters: Bruce (Ann) Wiles of Moose Jaw; Barry (Marlene) Wiles of Ogema; Della (Mel) Kazell of Saskatoon; and Lewis (Jennie) Wiles of Regina; stepchildren: Joanne Mallory of Regina; Bob Mallory of Calgary; Gerry (Denna) Mallory of Weyburn; Ken (Jacquie) Mallory of Weyburn; and Jim (Tina) Mallory of Parry, SK; 14 step grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews. Murray was born October 19, 1945 in Ogema. He was raised on a farm eight miles west of Ogema and attended Mount Joy School in rural Ogema and then high school in Ogema. As a teenager he was interested in electricity, and had his room set up to make thunder bolts. He moved into Ogema in 1976 and lived there until 1994 when he moved to Weyburn. On November 12, 1983 he married Diane Sauve in Ogema. Murray enjoyed restoring antiques and working on and fixing old radios. He once took a week to get an old Rumley tractor ready, then took three days to get it to Ogema along with his cousin Brian. He enjoyed music, playing the guitar, organ, piano and trumpet. He was very involved with and dedicated to the Deep South Pioneer Museum, and was a past president. Murray attended Calvary Baptist Church in Weyburn. A memorial service was held Tuesday, August 24 at 2:00 p.m. from the Legion Hall in Ogema with Rev. Christa Eidsness and Pastor Rob Ogilvie officiating. Interment followed in Ogema Cemetery. Theresa Marie Jalbert
On Tuesday, August 24, 1999, Theresa Marie Jalbert, late of Weyburn, and formerly of Radville, passed away at Hill Top Manor in Weyburn at the age of 76 years. Predeceased by her husband, Emile in 1987; one son, Leon in 1972, three sisters: Aline, Leonie and Solange; and one brother, John. Theresa leaves to mourn, her son, Maurice (Marilyn) Jalbert of Regina, and their four children: Michelle, Marnelle (Gary) Perras, and Malinda, all of Calgary, AB; and Marcie of Regina; four brothers: Henry (Adrienne) Bourassa of Radville; Roger (Annette) Bourassa of Legal, AB; Paul (Arndree) Bourassa of Weyburn; and Maurice (Sophie) Bourassa of Saskatoon; five sisters: Blanche Gratton of Montreal, PQ; Yvonne (Lou) Herbert of Calgary; Celine (Chris) Hager of Legal; Marie Emma (Real) Montbleau of Montreal; Jeannette (Emilian) Dedora of Lake Alma, SK; and numerous nieces and nephews. Prayers were said Thursday, August 26 at 7:30 p.m. from Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, Radville. The Mass of Christian Burial was held Friday, August 27 at 2:00 p.m. from Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, Radville, with Father Joe Frey celebrant. Interment followed in Laurier Cemetery, Radville. Pallbearers were Alphonse Bourassa, Andrew Bourassa, Marius Bourassa, Marcel Jalbert, Greg Dedora and Brian Ward. The ushers were Euclide Jalbert and Hughie Verhelst. Those wishing to express their sympathy may donate to the Canadian Cancer Society in her memory.
