DAVIDSON Mrs. Alice Althea
DAVIDSON Mrs. Alice Althea, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on September 9, 2004 at the Prairie Pioneer Lodge. Alice was born to Archie and Vera Simmie on November 16, 1926. She married John Davidson in 1948. They raised their five children on the farm near Simmie, then moved to Swift Current in 1968. Alice worked for Quinn’s Pharmacy for many years. She and John traveled around in their mini camper, but spent most every weekend at Duncairn Dam camping and fishing. They just couldn’t seem to get the Simmie blood out of their system and moved back to Simmie in 1983. She worked for Keith and Edna Bratvold at the Simmie Locker Plant and spent almost every morning playing a friendly game of Smear with Dar and Karen. She loved to have her grandchildren come for visits and oh how they loved going to Grandma D’s. When John passed away in 1988, Alice moved back to Swift Current where she kept herself busy. She worked part-time for Keith at Superior Meats and did countless hours of volunteering in the community. In fact she was so busy her family had to make an appointment to see her. She lived for 15 years in the Pioneer Units before becoming a resident of Prairie Pioneer Lodge in December 2003. She was no stranger at the Lodge as she spent many years volunteering there. She especially loved to get the residents and staff up to dance to the music of the Odds & Ends and The Old Tyme Fiddlers. She especially enjoyed listening to Archie & The Boys. She also danced at the Swift Current Care Centre, Palliser Regional Care Centre and at Kiaskus Villa in Gull Lake and was an active member of the Senior Citizen’s center. Dancing was her life and she’s likely in heaven doing the two-step with God right now. Alice was famous for her baking. She won countless awards at the fair for her pies, tarts and brownies. Simmie bonspiels wouldn’t have been the same without her sour cream raisin pie. A day will not go by when Alice will not be treasured and so sadly missed by her five children: Darvin (Karen) Davidson, Brenda (Dick) Stenhouse, Randy Davidson, Bonnie (Wilfred) Funk, Cindy (Kim) Selanders; eight grandchildren: Shelly (Rob), Michael (Corey), Kelly (Bobbi), Tricia (Kelly), Jeff (Colleen), Amanda (Phil), Cody and Casey; twelve great-grandchildren: Mariah, Brittany, Janae, Jansen, Kaelyn, Mack, Brock, Kortlyn, Mathew, Kayden, Rylan and Hailey.
