Peacefully at Northumberland Hills Hospital, Cobourg on Sunday, August 28, 2005 in her 78th year. Loving wife of the late Donald Gagne and predeceased by her dear daughters, Sharon, Donna and Helen (Tana). Sadly missed by grandchildren Rebecca and her husband Jim Alessio of Orono, Jeremia Johnson of Napanee, Lisa and her husband Howard Burton of Cobourg and their children Jeff, Natasha, Jessica and Eric, as well as other grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Birdie will also be missed by her close friends Sharon and Ed Neva and family of Napanee. Respecting Birdie’s wishes, cremation will take place with no funeral service. Born September 28th, 1947 – died August 28th, 2005 at home with family by her side after a lengthy battle with cancer at the age of 57. Predeceased by her mother Annie Maughan, father Thomas Maughan, brothers Lolly “Loral” Coumbs, Thomas Maughan, William Maughan, James Maughan, John Maughan and Charles Maughan. Survived by sister Anne Billings of Blackstock. Loving wife of 38 years to Leonard Monk. Cherished mother to three children Wanda MacCrandles (Tim), Colleen Monk, Brenton Monk (Colleen). Loving grandmother to eight grandchildren Michael Bailey (Kathy), Amy Bailey, Ryan Bailey, Zachary Monk, Doulton Monk, Logan (Monk) Collins, Dillon Davies, Jayd Monk and one great-granddaughter Sierra McLeod. She fought a long, hard battle against cancer, and is finally with her parents and free of pain. She will be forever loved and missed.
