SCIUK, Stella (nee Sledziewski) -
Passed away peacefully Saturday, April 3rd, at Wynfield residence, with her family in attendance. Her passing marks a turning point for her family, and though she will be sorely missed the memory of her will not soon fade. Survived by her two sons, Richard John (Shirley) and George Theodore (Rosemary), seven grandchildren, and sixteen great grandchildren she lives forever in our hearts. She was in her 99th year. Born January 27 1906, Stella left her native Poland in 1927, and came to North America to find a new life, and here she met her loving husband, Jan Sciuk (1903-1974). Together, they made a life for themselves and their small family. Through the turmoil of the depression, and the uncertainty of the second world war they toiled together to overcome the difficulties of a young immigrant family in a new land. As family Matriarch, Stella watched over all of the family comings and goings, and displayed both her approval and her disapproval when necessary. Strong in body, in mind and in spirit, she formed the foundation upon which the family grew. Giving generously of her time and her resources, her great joy in life seemed always to spring from the small and large successes enjoyed by her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Stella's enormous strength of character grew out of her immense faith, and her strict adherence to that which she held sacred. The Church and her family provided for her both the reason to continue, and the light by which to guide us. Remarkable by anyone's standards, Stella has set the bar quite high. Having first seen to her family's well-being, she has earned her rest. She will be so dearly missed. Rested at the ARMSTRONG FUNERAL HOME 124 King Street East, Oshawa. Mass of Christian Burial was held in St. Hedwig's Catholic Church on Wednesday April 7 at 10 a.m. Interment Resurrection Cemetery. Prayers were held at the funeral home Tuesday at 5 p.m. Visitation was held on Tuesday from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m.
