Rita Dietrich was called to her Lord on March 25, 2008 at the Yorkton and District Nursing Home at the age of 84 years. Rita Viola Elisabeth Dietrich was born to Catherine and John Dietrich on February 16, 1924 in their home in The Homeland S.D. - MacNutt, Saskatchewan. She was the second oldest of six children. On March 3, 1924, Rita was baptized by Pastor G.H. Boehnke at her parents home and on April 10, 1938 she was confirmed by Pastor John H. Lucht of Christ Lutheran Church in MacNutt, Saskatchewan. Her confirmation verse was Isaiah 41:10. Rita’s godparents were Elizabeth and Wilhelm Fingas. Rita grew up on the family farm and attended the Homeland School near MacNutt. From 1947 - 1949, Rita worked as a ward aid in the Yorkton Auxiliary Hospital and was a nurses aid from 1954-1956 in Wilkie Hospital. She completed a business course in Calgary and worked at Terrill’s Flowers. Rita also spent time in Hinton, Alberta working as a clerk in a pharmacy. It was after her time in Hinton that she returned to Yorkton. Rita was always a very devoted member of the Lutheran Church and during her time in Yorkton, she attended the Zion Lutheran Church and sang in the choir. Rita was predeceased by her parents, John and Catherine; brothers, Alvin and Robert and sister, Alma. Rita is survived by her sister, Helen (Julius) Stubel of Melville; brother, Harlan Dietrich of Hinton, AB; niece, Joanne (Patrick) Gilbertson of Winnipeg; nephews, Randy (Bev) Torrie of Saltcoats and Ronald (Delores) Torrie of Saltcoats as well as grand- nieces, grand-nephews and many friends. Funeral Services were held on Friday, March 28, 2008 from Zion Lutheran Church in Yorkton, Saskatchewan with Pastor Ken Eichenlaub officiating. The organist, Mrs. Verna Liebrecht, led the congregation in the singing of the hymns, “What A Friend We Have In Jesus”, “How Great Thou Art”, “Abide With Me” and “My Faith Looks Up to Thee”. Rita’s nephew, Ronald Torrie, remembered his aunt in tribute and eulogy. The ladies of Zion Lutheran Women’s Missionary League served as honourary pallbearers. In accordance with Rita’s wishes, a private family cremation committal will follow at a later date. Funeral arrangements
were entrusted to Christie’s Funeral Home & Crematorium, Yorkton, Saskatchewan.
Landon William Entz

Service: A Prayer Service was held on Tuesday, September 15, 2009 at 7:30 pm from Trinity Lutheran Church in Churchbridge, Saskatchewan with Pastor Daniel Moeller officiating. The Funeral Service was held on Wednesday, September 16, 2009at 2:00 pm from Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor Daryl Solie officiating. The organist, Alice Johnson, led the congregation in the singing of the hymns, “Children of the Heavenly Father” and “On Eagle’s Wings”. Special music was performed by Nicholas Thies, Shayne Decorby, Brendon McIntyre and Shannon McIntyre. The Scripture Readings were Psalm 18:1-2, 1 John 3:1-2, Mark 10:13 - 16. Landon’s football coach, Reg Leidl payed special tribute as he shared memories of Landon, and Landon’s football team, “The Esterhazy Warriors” served as Honourary Pallbearers for their fellow teammate and friend. The Interment service took place in the Concordia Cemetery
with Andrew Daniel, Nicholas Thies, Devon Youse, Brendon Gould, Sawyer Thies and Taylor Buckberger serving as casket bearers. The interment service was followed by a reception at the Churchbridge Town Hall.
Landon William Entz of Churchbridge, Saskatchewan, died in the loving care of his family on Sunday, September 13, 2009. Landon was born in Yorkton on July 7, 1993, the eldest son of Albert & Valerie Entz. He grew up on the family farm east of Churchbridge and attended Churchbridge Public School. In 2003 Landon was diagnosed with Leukemia which he underwent treatments for. Even at the age of 10, Landon was a fighter and never complained about any of the needles and medications he had to take. When he relapsed in 2004, it was decided that Landon would need a Bone Marrow Transplant, and once again he lifted his chin and began again. His little brother Colby became his Hero when he donated his bone marrow to him. The transplant was a success. So, for 5 years, Landon lived his life to the fullest. Joining cross country running, volleyball and curling. He was a member of the 4-H Beef Club, the Church Choir and also the High School Drama Club. Landon’s winters were kept very busy as a referee and linesman at hockey games in Churchbridge and various communities. While Landon kept busy, he never missed doing his chores at home, feeding the cows in the winter, and bailing and hauling hay in the summer. Even with Landon’s busy schedule he still managed to mow his grandma’s lawn and hill his moms potatoes. Last year Landon joined the Esterhazy football team much to his mother’s dismay. This is where Landon came to life. He loved everything about it, but most of all he loved the team and the coach. He talked nonstop about it after every game and every practice. What he lacked in skills he made up with spirit and enthusiasm, Nobody could cheer as loud. Even during Landon’s sickest days he wanted to know how “Our Team” was doing. Another love of Landon’s was Science. He had great hopes of coming up with an alternative fuel someday and had many lively conversations with his dad on that subject. Dad always came up short because “he just didn’t understand” what he was talking about. On July 20, Landon was diagnosed with a brain tumour and went home to be with Jesus on September 13. He will be remembered by his family and friends for his quick wit, quirky personality, quiet charm, and of course his wonderful dancing ability. Landon hoped that he inspired other kids to always be themselves, live life to the fullest, and dance wildly like no one is watching, because you never know what bend may come to your road. Landon leaves to lovingly remember and cherish his life, his Father and Mother, Albert and Valerie Entz; his sisters Oralie and Cassidy and his brother Colby; his grandmothers Neta Sveinbjornson and Sara Entz; his aunts and uncles George (Gloria) Sveinbjornson, Elmyra Sveinbjornson, Viola Sveinbjornson, Paul Sveinbjornson, Lorie (Russell) Thies, Lee (Kent) Daniel, Avis (Leonard) Youse, Adrienne (Donald) Gould, Walter (Matilda) Entz, Fred (Rosa) Entz, Julia (Ike) Mandel, Mary (Ruben) Mandel, Margaret (Walter) Wipf, Dorothy (Jake) Waldner, Laura (Jonathan) Mandel, and many cousins. Landon was predeceased by his Grandfathers, Eyfie Sveinbjornson and Paul Entz and his cousin Joshua Thies.
Joseph Dychko

Service: Prayer Services will be held on Tuesday, September 22, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Christie's Funeral Home in Yorkton, SK. The Requiem Divine Liturgy will be sung on Wednesday, September 23, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. from St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic church. The interment will follow in the Yorkton Memorial Gardens, Garden of Gethsemane.
Joe Dychko of Yorkton passed away Thursday, September 17, 2009 at the Yorkton & District Nursing Home with his wife and daughter by his side. He was 74 years of age. Joe fought his battle with cancer for 3 years. Joe was born on February 23, 1935 to Metro and Mary (nee Oshust) Dychko in Kamsack. Growing up, Joe attended Bear Stream School. After his education, Joe worked in Manitoba and Ontario, then returned to Saskatchewan to work in the Kamsack area. In the 60's, he moved to Yorkton and began employment with Harry Rohatensky Construction. In 1973, Joe married Irene Chudyk (nee Darichuk) and they were blessed with one daughter, Colleen. Joe later ventured out on his own in construction and became self-employed. He stayed in his trade until 1989 when he semi-retired, but Joe continued to do small jobs, always keeping his hands busy. In 1991, Joe retired from all his work. Joe was an outdoor person. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, golf, playing cards, and going to hockey games. He also treasured the time that was spent with his family. Joe was predeceased by his parents, Metro and Mary; sister, Anne; brothers-in-law, Ed Strocen, Lawrence Pfeifer and Tony Zychkowski. He leaves to mourn his passing and cherish his memory, his wife, Irene; daughter, Colleen (Barry) Gawryluik of Yorkton; his step-son, Glenn (Carmen) of Calgary; grandsons, Brayden and Braxton; sister, Janet Pfeifer of Yorkton; brothers, Stanley of Winnipeg and Ed of Portage La Prairie; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Gordon Leslie Brown

Mr Gordon Leslie Brown of Yorkton passed away Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at the Yorkton & District Nursing Home, Wallace House. He was 93 years of age. Gordon was born March 10, 1916 the seventh child of nine to John E Brown and Mable M Crosson. He attended school in Spy Hill until grade 10, then started working any job he could find to help out through the difficult times of depression. When the war broke out Gordon made his way to Regina and on January 30, 1940 joined the Army. He served in England, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. He was discharged on February 16, 1946 with the following medals - 1939-45 Star, France and German Star, Defence Medal, War Medal Canadian Volunteer Medal. Upon returning home he went into partnership with brother Roy. They had a hardware store, a general store and a trucking business. They later built a garage and became the International Harvester dealership in Spy hill. In 1960, Gordon and his family moved to Bredenbury to take on the Massey Ferguson Dealership. Then in 1961 they sold their business in Spy Hill and Bredenbury to raise enough money to buy the Massey Ferguson Dealership in Yorkton known as Brown Brothers Implements. Gordon was very proud and often made mention of the fact he was awarded a silver tray by the General Manager of Massey Ferguson for having the highest volume in sales in Canada in 1964, 1965 and then again in 1966. On January 3, 1952 he married Margaret Miller and have one son Lorne. Margaret passed after a brief battle with cancer on June 28, 1999. During their time together they enjoyed many winter trips seeking a warmer climate. Gordon was always interested to know what his three grandchildren were doing and what was happening in their lives. He enjoyed golf in the summer and curling during the winter months. Gordon was a dedicated Mason, spending countless hours preparing and organizing for the work needed to be done. He was awarded a lifetime Member of the Masons as well as the Royal Canadian Legion and Yorkton Curling Club. In later years Gordon was very fortunate to have had the companionship of Lil Wladichuk. They enjoyed spending time together and when his health failed and he became a guest of the nursing home, he was always grateful for Lil’s daily visits. Gordon was predeceased by his parents, his wife Margaret and infant sister, Viola; his brothers, Garnett, Roy and Charlie; sisters, Mable, Vera, Violet and Cora. He leaves to celebrate his life, son, Lorne and his wife Juanita and their children, Justin, Kendra and Karli; sister, Hazel; sisters-in-law, Lily and Mabel; brother-in-law, Mervin; numerous nieces and nephews and dear friends. May he rest in peace.
Paul Gage

Paul “Scott” Gage passed away suddenly on Wednesday, September 16, 2009 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Scottie, as he was lovingly know to family and friends, was born on November 6, 1982 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, the eldest son of Heather Uhryn and Paul Gage. Scott was born with major heart problems which resulted in the family relocating to Toronto, On in 1986 to be closer to the medical help that Scott needed. When Scott was 5 years old he had open heart surgery, from which he recovered wonderfully. However, Scott required more operations in Winnipeg and Edmonton. Scott was a fighter, he faced each surgery with bravery and always knew there was more to come. The family moved back to Winnipeg in the summer of 1988 and Scott began his education in that city. In 1993, Scott, together with his mom, Heather and younger brother, Mark moved to Esterhazy where Scott continued his education to Grade 11. Scott returned to Winnipeg the following year to graduate from Churchill High School. Scott loved sports, especially volleyball, and received the most dedicated player award. Scott always tried to do his best at any tasks he faced, and lived his life to the fullest. He loved visiting his Auntie Glenda’s farm where there were always lots of hugs and fun. Scott also adored his nephews and niece (Casey, Emry and Kate) and showered them with tons of love. Scott leaves to lovingly remember his life, his mother, Heather (John) Uhryn of Yorkton, SK; his father, Paul Gage of Winnipeg, MB; his brother, Mark (Christina) and their children, Casey, Emry and Kate of Springside, SK; his girlfriend, Katera of Saskatoon; his grandparents, Lynden and Sheila Shiells of Yorkton, SK and George and Camiel Gage of Quebec as well as many relatives and good friends.
Roland Herbert Gabert

Roland (Rolly), loving husband to Ruth (nee Fandrey) and father to Keith and Myron, was born on February 23, 1915 on the farm in the Springside district. He was the fourth child of seven children of Christina and Adolph Gabert. Roland married Ruth in 1937 and they began farming near his family’s farm in 1940. In 1950 Rolly and Ruth opened the “Gabert General Store” in Orcadia and in 1952 Rolly began his career as a grain buyer with the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool. In 1956 Rolly was transferred to the Saltcoats Pool elevator and the family moved and made Saltcoats their home. Twenty-six years later Rolly retired, and the couple spent their years tending their garden, working on community projects, curling, hunting, fishing and travelling throughout Canada and the United States. Rolly was predeceased by his son; Myron, his parents, three brothers; August, Daniel, Henry, and three sisters; Julia (Emil) Yanke, Sylvia (Fred) Nehring, Sadie (Ian) Cameron. Roland leaves his loving wife Ruth, his son Keith (Carol), daughter-in-law (Jean), sister-in-law (Helen), 6 grandchildren (Tracy, Dawn, Jamie, Robin, Jeffrey, Jason and 8 great-grandchildren (Douglas, Hayley, Shaylayne, Kenzie, Tessa, Gracie, Connor and Calvin), and numerous nieces and nephews.
Annie Kondro

Annie was born on June 3, 1912, in the district of Jedburgh, Saskatchewan, the fifth of eight children born to John and Pelegia “Pashka” (nee Tobin) Kondro. She passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 5, 2009, at the Parkside Extendicare Home in Regina, Saskatchewan at the age of 97 years. Annie attended Forest Nook School for her elementary education. Due to illness, she was hospitalized at the Mental Health Institute at North Battleford, Saskatchewan at a young age. She spent many of her years there and then was transferred to the Weyburn Hospital, spent some time in a Group Home and the Parkside Extendicare Home in Regina where she spent her remaining years. Annie loved reading and had a great passion for chocolates. Annie was predeceased by her parents; her brothers, Metro (Martha), Steve (Stella), Bill (Nettie), Fred (Minnie); her sisters, Pearl (Wasyl) Sereda, Mary (John) Sereda and her sister-in-law, Nellie Kondro. She is survived by her brother, Nick of Yorkton and her numerous nieces and nephews.
