DR. DORCAS CANE M.D. (nee Beaton) -
On Monday, April 7th, 2003 in her 81st year with great courage and dignity after a lengthy bout with cancer. Predeceased by husbands Everett Lovell (1970) and William Cane (1989). Dorcas is survived by 7 children, Dr. Madeline Lovell (Doug Johnson) of Seattle, Washington, Edwin Lovell (Linda) of Ottawa, Trinela Cane (Jim Hutcheon) of Toronto, Dr. John Lovell (Susan) of London, Howard Cane (Brenda) of Toronto, Fred Cane (Cathy) of Bowmanville and Dr. Victoria Cane (Mike Thomas) of Orangeville. Dorcas will be remembered by her many grandchildren: Joshua, Kelsey, Jeremy, Chris, Jonathan, Trinela, Patrick, Jeffrey, Peter, Marc, Emma, William, Peter, Laura, Wesley, Johanna and Erin. Dorcas will be loved and missed by brothers, Dr. John Beaton (Helen) of Maryland and Dr. George Beaton (Mary) of Toronto. Dorcas will be fondly remembered by good friends, Dr. Maggie Brander of Toronto, Dan Riordan and John Walker, both of Oshawa. She will be missed by her companion of many years, her dog "Mikey". Dr. Cane was born in Oshawa in 1922 to John Hector and Madeline Beaton. She graduated from the University of Toronto with a degree in medicine in 1946. She was a member of the Canadian Women Army Corps (CWAC). A fter graduation, she practiced as a General Practitioner in Oshawa and had an interest in Pathology. She retired early to raise her 7 children. Over the years she has volunteered in many organizations including Home Care Services, the Oshawa General Hospital (Lakeridge Health) the Women's Auxiliary and the hospital Gift Shop. On Sunday, February 3rd, 2003, Dr. Cane was presented with the Queen's Jubilee Award, which recognizes people who have been exceptional in their volunteer roles in serving their community. She has been an active member of the Oshawa Golf Club and the Oshawa Ski Club. Her father J.H. Beaton was a founding member of both of these organizations. She will be missed by the remaining members of the "Kirby Belles", a group of gals who enjoy skiing, golf and friendship. She has been an active member of the Royal Canadian Military Institute in Toronto. Dorcas enjoyed her cottage life in Muskoka for many years and will be missed by her friends there. DAWE, Marion (nee Lepard) -
Wife, mother, 'Grammy,' daughter, sister and friend to many, ended her long courageous battle with cancer on April 7, 2003, in her 57th year. She rode through her illness, as in life, with courage, humour, grace and concern for those around her. She will be dearly missed. Marion was predeceased by her husband, Wilfred, July 9, 1983 and her mother Isabelle Lepard on February 18, 1992. Marion leaves behind her true companion of 18 years, Jim Lakas Jr., her sons Wayne, Shawn (Amy), and her much loved granddaughter, Meghan. Her father Morley Lepard, sister Elaine Baker (Ken), brother-in-law Ed Dawe (Sharon), sister-in-law Linda. Ladd (John), nieces and nephews are joined in their heartfelt loss. The true support of her neighbour Jenny and many friends is a tribute to Marion. Her family is eternally grateful. Special thanks to Oncology ahd Palliative Care teams at Lakeridge Health Corp. Oshawa.
