(Retired 38 year employee of GM; retired 14 year volunteer firefighter with the Newcastle Fire Dept.). Peacefully at his home in Bowmanville on Sunday, August 10, 2003, in his 66th year. Loving husband for 44 years of Mary (nee Courtney). Dear father of Ron and his wife Aranka of Ayr, Rob and his wife Bev of Edmonton, and Lisa and her husband Leonard Alldread of Orono. Poppa will be sadly missed by his grandchildren Lindsay, Shane, Elicia, Zackary, Jonathon, Rebecca, Millissa, Daniel, Brandon, Alex, and Justin. Dear brother of James and his wife Lyn, Cindy and her husband Mark Stevens, and Debbie and her husband Ernie Dack, all of Brechin. Following cremation, friends may call at the NEWCASTLE FUNERAL HOME, 386 Mill St. S. Passed away at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Barrie, on Saturday, August 9, 2003, in her 85th year. Doris was the beloved wife of John Hamilton. Dear mother of Linda Jill Abbott of Mississauga. Loving grandmother of Wendy Abbott of Toronto, and Christopher Abbott of North York. Dear sister of Melva McDonald of Oakville, and Pearl Long of Barrie. Predeceased by her sister Laura Long. She was the loving aunt of Beth Cornell and her husband Craig, and great-nieces Kimberley and Laurie Cornell. A family Memorial Service will be held at a later date. HOPKINS, Rod (Roderick Frank) -
Born January 27, 1924, passed away Suddenly on August 9, 2003 at Frost Manor Nursing Home in Lindsay, Ont. Rod was a WWII Veteran, serving with the 48th Highlanders. Rod was a 38 year employee of J. M. Schneiders Inc. Formerly married to Nettie (Tiny) Hopkins, who passed away in 1973. He is survived by his wife Honey (Theresa) and his children Linda Traer, Paul Gardiner, Bill Hopkins, Brian Gardiner, Nancy Garratt (deceased), Bonnie Shimizu, Bob Gardiner, Rod Hopkins, Judi Smith, and Janet Hayes. He will be sadly missed by 17 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Special thanks to the staff at Frost Manor for their wonderful care and support. There will be a Garden Memorial Service held on Wednesday, August 13th at 5:30 p.m., at the home of his son Brian Gardiner at 202 Raglan Road West, Oshawa (Raglan) L1H 7K4, 905-655-8724. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations towards purchasing a memorial bench to be placed in the Therapeutic Garden at Frost Manor.
