SELLERS - Mrs. Arie Sellers (Downey), born icon in Farmington, Washington, on May 22, 1908, passed away at the Drumheller Auxiliary Hospital, Drumheller, Alberta, on June 15, 2000, at the age of 92 years. Mrs. Sellers is survived by her daughter Joyce (Jim) Spring of Vancouver, BC; her stepson Richard Sellers; granddaughter Wendy Wise; grandsons, Lon, Gordon and Russel Wise; as well as five great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandsons. Mrs. Sellers will also be lovingly remembered by her two sisters, Martha Fortems and Anna (Wood) Nelson; as well as four brothers, Harold (Sis) Downey, Roy (Allie) Downey, Lawrence (Mary) Downey and Woodrow (Alice) Downey. A Memorial Service will be held at the Chapel of MOUNTAIN VIEW FUNERAL HOME on Sunday,June 18, 2000 at 2:00 p.m. with Padre Earl Leslie officiating. Flowers gratefully declined. SIMPSON - John Edward (Ed) Simpson, beloved husband and father passed away at the MSA Hospital in Abbotsford, BC, on Tuesday, June 13, 2000, at the age of 91 years. Born in Cochrane, AB, in 1908, Ed worked in the Royal Bank and general merchandising until serving in the R.C.A.F. during World War II. He completed his working career as a petroleum landman. Ed is survived by his wife Eveline and daughter Mary Kruk both of Abbotsford, BC; and son Michael of Cochrane, AB; two sisters, Bess Harris and Teresa Martin, both of Calgary; and brother Duncan of New Westminster, BC. He will also be missed by seven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Cochrane, AB, on Monday, June 19, 2000 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Cochrane, AB, on Tuesday, June 20, 2000 at 10:30 a.m. with the Very Rev. SINCLAIR - Wesley, aged 95 years, passed away June 12, 2000, at Claresholm. He is the beloved father and father-in-law of Doreen and Alfred Hunter, Calgary, AB, Deanna and Don Niles, Mississauga, ON, and Ron and Ann Sinclair, Sherwood Park, AB. He is also survived by six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was predeceased by his wife Dilys Sinclair on August 13, 1996, a brother William, and two sisters, Minetta Francis and Ivy Richards. VACEY - Alexander (Al) James Vacey passed away suddenly at home on Tuesday, June 13, 2000 at the age of 74 years. Al will be sadly missed and always remembered with love by Adelaide (Bredo), his wife of fifty-one years; daughters, Lindsay Ayn (Chris Provencher), Joni Hutchison; sons, Alan (Linda) and Michael (Carolyn). A special joy to his life were his grandchildren, Stephen, David, Kyle, Michaela, Sean, Annika and Tatiana. He is survived by his parents, Sandar and Roza Vaci and sister Isabelle. He was a successful Calgary businessman establishing Sunnyside Aluminum Products in 1956, retiring in 1998. He took great pride in giving the best service and workmanship to all his customers over the years. At Al's request, there will be no Funeral Service. WARD - Benjamin Franklin "Frank" Ward passed away peacefully at his daughter's home in Langley, B.C. on June 11, 2000. Frank was the third-born son of Benjamin Vessey and Evelyn Verena Ward (nee Nesbitt, later Smith) on May 20, 1925 in Twining, Alberta. Frank married icon Grace Vaughan on May 31, 1947. Frank is survived by daughter Dyan Gayle (Jim) Andrews of Langley, BC; a son James Kenneth (Linda) of Calgary; and grandchildren, Jaime Leigh Andrews of Langley, Tom and Laura Clendening of Calgary. He is also survived by brothers, Walter (Kay)of Nanton, Thomas (Flo) of Fort Pierce, Florida; sisters, June (Frank) Kinney of Abbotsford, BC, Bonnie (Bill) Paling of Dundas, Ontario, Fran (Tony) Prettegiani of Calgary, Mary (Rod French) Stapleton of Calgary; sister-in-law Ellen Ward of Hornby Island, BC; and by numerous nieces and nephews. Frank was predeceased by his wife Grace on February 28, 2000 and an older brother Howard of Hornby Island, BC. Frank was trained as a wireless air gunner during the Second World War and served in the reserves during the Korean War. He was still in the airforce when he met Grace. He went to SAIT after discharge and then joined Dominion Bridge where he learned the Steel Trade, advancing to Foreman. He was asked to help run a subsidiary, Union Iron, along with Jack Pereaux. They soon went out on their own and started Bonnybrook Steel in the early 1960's where they produced specialized forms for concrete. Some of the local projects they participated in were the Saddledome, Olympic Oval and Stampede Grandstand. They had projects from as far away as Ceylon. Frank retired in Bonnybrook in 1987 and spent his early retirement years travelling around Canada and the U.S. with Grace and his later years puttering in his garden and going to bingo. YEATS - Floyd Wood, dearly loved husband, father, grandfather and brother, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on June 13, 2000 at the age of 81 years. Floyd was born icon in Field, BC, May 22, 1919. He moved to Calgary at two years of age where he lived the rest of his life. He attended Ramsay and Western Canada High Schools. Floyd started his working life with the C.P.R. as a wiper in 1937 and retired as engineer of the Canadian in 1979. Floyd was a proud Canadian who served his country in its time of need, serving in the R.C.A.F. from 1940 to 1946 in Gander, Newfoundland. Floyd was a member of the Bow Valley Railroad Club and C.P.R. Pensioner's Club as well as a member of First Assembly from the time of his marriage in 1942 to Lorna Lenore Falls. His marriage was one of mutual love and respect that spanned fifty-six years until Lorna's passing in 1998. He never ceased to miss her. Floyd was a man of quick intelligence, unwavering honesty, great kindness, good humor and highest integrity. Floyd is lovingly remembered by his daughter and son-in-law, Terry and Barry Dickieson; his son and daughter-in-law, Trevor and Lori Yeats; and his two wonderful grandsons, Joshua and Kevan. He is also lovingly remembered by two sisters, Illina and Mel Morrison, and Vera Belle and John Berton; two brothers, Jack and Maurine Yeats, and Bill and Pauline Yeats; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held at First Assembly Church (6031 Elbow Drive S.W.) on Monday, June 19, 2000 at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Leona Eagle officiating. YOUNG - Frances (Fran) Emily Young (Wheaton), passed away at the Rockyview Hospital on June 12, 2000, at the age of 80 years. Mom will be lovingly remembered by son and daughter-in-law, Don and Gladys Young; her daughters and sons-in-law, Maureen and Gord Akins, Sandy Westinghouse and Cam Oberer; and also her grandchildren, Andrea (Scott), Melanie, Jason and Lindsay, all of Calgary. Frances is also survived by her brother and sister-in-law, John and Florrie Wheaton of Cranbrook, B.C.; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Eric and Grace Young of Fort Saskatchewan; sisters-in-law, Jean Young of Calgary and Eileen Bachelor of Providence, Rhode Island; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her loving husband Stan in 1996 and a brother Donald (Duke). Fran was a very loving mother and grandmother who, when not spending time with her family, enjoyed sewing, knitting, baking and being at home for her "special" Sundays out. VANCE - Robert Dexter Mayhew March 31, 1934 - June 1, 2000 "He fought a brave battle against an unbeatable foe" It is with heavy hearts we announce the peaceful passing of Dad to a better place. Born in Calgary, he attended Glenmore, Milton Williams, Rideau Park and Western Canada High Schools, where he met his future wife Heather. Married in 1956 they had three wonderful children. Bob started at the Calgary Herald as a carrier, became a journeyman pressman in 1954, then was a District Advisor in the Circulation Department for thirty years until 1985 when he went into Box Repair until his retirement, due to ill health in 1998. Bob had many interests in his life, including skiing, astronomy, camping, travelling, woodworking and non-fictional reading. He was a kite-maker, skating rink-marker and campfire-maker extraordinaire. Predeceased by his father Dexter in 1955 and his mother Ellie in 1998, he is survived by his wife Heather of Bragg Creek; daughter Karen (Ben), and granddaughters, Taylor, Reanne and Sydney; son Michael (Audrey), and granddaughters, Sarah and Laura; son David; sister Vallory; brothers, Fred (Vi) and Lorne (Debbie); many cousins, nieces, nephews and wonderful friends. Visitation will be at FOSTER'S GARDEN CHAPEL (32 Avenue and 4 Street N.W., across from Queen's Park Cemetery), on Sunday, June 4, 2000, between 1:00 and 3:00 p.m. Cremation with Private Family Interment at Queen's Park Mausoleum to follow. A Celebration of Dad's life will be held at the Legion Chapelhow Branch No. 284 (606 - 38 Avenue N.E.), on Saturday, June 10, between 1:00 and 4:00 p.m. Everyone welcome. WILSON - Rita Wilson passed away at the Foothills Hospital on May 31, 2000. Rita is survived by her loving daughter Nancy; three loving sons, Alfred, Victor and Ken; twelve grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. Rita is also survived by in-laws, Ben, Mala, Fred and Bhupen. She was predeceased by her loving husband Charles, and her daughter Valerie Dyal. Rita came to Calgary from the Fiji Islands to join her children. She found employment with S.A.I.T. until her retirement in the 1980's. Rita was well-known by friends and family for her banana bread and samosas. Rita will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. An intimate Service of Rita's Life with family and close friends will be held at FOSTER'S GARDEN CHAPEL, 3220 - 4 Street N.W.
