MILLAR - Linda Millar September 14, 1959 - June 7, 2000 Linda Beverly Millar, beloved wife of Rob and mother of Tom (eleven), Brooke (ten), and Grace (seven), passed away to heaven at the Foothills Hospital on June 7, 2000, at the age of 40 years. Linda was an incredibly beautiful person from the inside out. She fought a courageous battle with cancer while at the same time loving her family and friends in a way that cannot be described in such a short space. NICOL - Sister Mary Catherine Nicol, a Sister of Charity of St. Louis, passed away peacefully at the Foothills Hospital in Calgary on Wednesday, June 14, 2000 at the age of 94 years having recently celebrated seventy years in religious life. Sister Mary Catherine will be lovingly remembered by the members of her religious community and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, her twin sister Anne, and two brothers, Leo and Albert. Sister Mary Catherine was born
in Maple Creek, Saskatchewan. She entered the Congregation of the Sisters of Charity of St. Louis in 1923 and served in the ministry of education for over forty years in Alberta, Saskatchewan and British Columbia. Upon retiring, she took care of her ailing mother for eight years and spent her remaining retirement years in New Westminster and Calgary. Sister Mary Catherine will be remembered for her deep faith, her unique sense of humour and her love of history, literature, music, art, and gardening. PAPKE - Kenneth Delbert Papke went home to be with God, his Heavenly Father, where there is no more pain, tears and sorrow, on June 12, 2000, after a long and courageous battle with Progressive Supernucular Palsy (P.S.P.) in the Didsbury Nursing Home at the age of 67 years. Ken will continue to live in the hearts of his loving wife Fay; sisters, Florence Stevenson, Inez Banting, Edna (Jim) Weisgerber; brothers, Herbert (Elsie) Papke, Leonard (Marie) Papke, Wes (Laura) Papke, Cec (Sharon) Papke; and other numerous and precious close family and friends. He will always be remembered by many for his love of hockey, golf, music, humor and his great love for laughter. His many one line quotes on life itself, to fit all occasions, will also go on being used by many of us. A most grateful and very special thank-you is an absolute must for the gifted care-giving staff and volunteers at the Didsbury Nursing Home on Unit No. 3. They became Ken's world and his new family with their loving care and kindness during his years with this terrible disease. They shared in all his special occasions and were there for him when he needed them. He knew each and everyone by their voices and loved them dearly... Thank You!! ROBINSON - Jack (Robbie) Kenneth Robinson, beloved husband of Audree, passed away suddenly at age 65, on the evening of June 12, 2000. Jack is survived by his mother Jean; daughter Pam (Peter) and grandson Matthew; his sons, Bart (Barb) and Brad (Jennifer); his sisters, Gail Cowley, and Lorraine (Bill) Irwin; brother Monte (Lil) Robinson. He will also be dearly missed by nieces, nephews and many friends. Jack enjoyed his career in the insurance industry in Calgary and Taber since 1957. RUPP - Arthur William Rupp of Priddis, AB, passed away on June 13, 2000, at the age of 72 years. Art is survived by Florentina, his loving companion since 1955 and wife of thirty-eight years, his sister Betty Hunter of Didsbury; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Lucia Elliott, Loretta and John Gieni, and Bill Granat; as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and their children. He was predeceased by his parents, James and Irene Rupp of Didsbury. Art was born
in Didsbury, AB, on March 20, 1928, where he attended public and high school. After graduating from the University of Alberta in 1951 with a degree in Honours Geology, he joined the staff of Shell Canada. During his career with Shell he worked mainly on the geological exploration of the Foothills and Devonian carbonate trends in Alberta, B.C., and the N.W.T. His time away from Canada included a research project along the Florida Keys and Bahamas, plus a five year period with Shell International where he held the positions of Exploration Co-ordinator for the Middle East in the Hague and Chief Production Geologist and Exploration Liaison Officer for Shell Company of Qatar Ltd. After retirement from Shell in 1986 he established a Geological Consulting Company. Art worked on various research projects and conducted geological training seminars for various oil and gas companies. Growing up on the family farm near Didsbury with its surrounding creek and coulees, which at that time were teaming with wildlife, sparked a keen interest in nature which he pursued for the rest of his life. Art had many diverse and varied interests including hiking in the mountains, photography , the study of butterflies and moths, scuba diving, Canadian Philately and travel. Travel took him to seventy different countries, mostly accompanied by Flo, his dearest companion and wife. He particularly loved the tropical jungles, visiting such places as New Guinea, Madagascar, and countries of the Amazon. One sad point of his life was to see first-hand the ever-escalating destruction of our beautiful planet and its wild inhabitants at the hands of mankind. Mrs. Rupp and the family would like to thank the staff of Unit 62 of the Foothills Hospital for the excellent care and support they consistently provided during Art's stay there. Special acknowledgement and thanks are extended specifically to John, PCA on Unit 62, for the kindness and concern he always shared with Art. Deepest thanks are also extended to Dr. Geramia, Hospitalist, Dr. Martin Labrie, Linda Read Paul and Catherine Janzen of the Palliative Care Team for the compassion and care they provided to Art, Flo and the family. Mrs. Rupp also expresses her gratitude to the staff at Black Diamond Oilfields General Hospital for their support during Art's final hours of life. SANDERSON - William Leslie Sanderson of High River passed away at the High River Hospital on May 31, 2000, at the age of 88 years.
He is survived by his wife Velma of High River; his sister Edith (Wilf) Fournier, Enderby, B.C.; his brothers, Harvey Sanderson, Dryden, ON, and Alan Sanderson, Red Lake, ON; and by several nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held at SNODGRASS FUNERAL CHAPEL, High River, on Saturday, June 17 at 2:00 p.m. with the Reverend Jeanne Forte officiating.
Cremation took place at Parklawn Crematorium.
