EARLE - Bruce Jerome Earle of Calgary, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, September 29, 2000. Born on April 10, 1928 in Edmonton, Bruce spent his early years growing up on the family farm in Tomahawk, AB. In 1949 he married
his loving wife of fifty years, Julie, and went to work for Co-op Stores managing several in Alberta. In 1955, Bruce moved to Edmonton and joined Acme Novelty Ltd. While in Edmonton, he was an active member of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 1184. In 1968, he was transferred to Calgary and later became regional manager for Acme Novelty. In 1976 Bruce founded Canuck Amusements and Merchandising Ltd. where he continued to work until the present. For the past twenty-five years, Bruce had been an active member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles No. 3475. Besides his loving wife Julie, Bruce is survived bythree sons, Daniel (Julie), Doug (Sandi), and David (Lisa); a daughter Heather Knight (Gerry); and five grandchildren, Ryan, Dean, Shelby, Logan and Cameron. He is also survived by a sister Burniece Wyness of Fairview, AB; two brothers, Arthur and Lloyd Earl of Tomahawk; and many nieces and nephews. Bruce will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by all his family and friends. ERDMAN - Melvin Emil Erdman age 84 years, born
at Carnforth, near Claresholm, November 28, 1915, passed away in Claresholm on September 29, 2000. He is survived by his loving wife Betty; his only son Thomas (Tom) Erdman, granddaughters, Torey and Tamara of Springbank, Tom's friend Betty Hersberger of Calgary; only daughter Judy Skoye, son-in-law Roger Skoye, granddaughters, Kelly and Jaclyn of Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. Also survived by two brothers, Harold of Claresholm and Wilfred (Yvonne) of Black Diamond; and a sister Hazel (John) Wills of Airdrie. Melvin is predeceased by his mother Emma and father Emil, his daughter-in-law Mary Erdman and two sisters, Eleanor Henderson and Adeline Pfefferle. Melvin farmed near Granum until retiring to Claresholm in 1973. His interests included fishing, hunting, playing pool, gardening and playing cards, especially Canasta with his granddaughters. HARRIS - Clare Harris, of Calgary, passed away peacefully at the Rockyview General Hospital on Thursday, September 28, 2000 at the age of 82 years, to be with her husband Fred. Clare was born
on August 3, 1918 at Meyronne, Saskatchewan. She was happily married
for fifty-two years. She was a bride in the armed forces and traveled across Canada for twenty-five years with family and meeting many wonderful friends. On Clare and Fred's Fortieth Anniversary their family gave them the greatest gift of all, a trip to England, so that Fred could show Clare his adventures during World War II. She was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion for twenty years. She was very passionate about crochet; all her friends and family received many crocheted butterfly magnets for their fridges. Clare was very blessed with the family and friends and they were a great joy to her. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Jim and Pat Harris, Doug and Penny Harris; a daughter and son-in-law, Carley and Bob Underwood, all of Calgary; nine grandchildren, Robyn, Kelly, Jamie, Brandon, Chad, Kimberley, Michael, Kurt and Matthew; and eight great-grandchildren, Jamie, Taylor, Brady, Harrison, Bailey, Cora, Conner and Abbigail. She was predeceased by her parents and her husband Fred. "Some people come into our lives and quickly go... Some people come and stay awhile... Leaving beautiful footprints on our heart... And we are never quite the same..." HARRIS - Daniel Eldon Harris, precious son of David and Heidi, went home to be with Jesus on September 28, 2000 at the age of 43 days. Daniel was born
very premature at twenty-four weeks on August 16, 2000. In his forty-three days of life our "little peanut" fought a great fight, endured many hardships, touched so many hearts and awakened a faith in others long forgotten. Neither Heaven nor Earth will ever be the same. JOHNSTON - Kenneth Douglas Johnston, beloved husband of Gladys of Calgary, Alberta, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, September 27, 2000 at theage of 44 years. Ken was born
in Wetaskiwin, AB and traveled throughout Alberta while working in the oilfields before residing in Calgary for the last fifteen years. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. Ken is survived by his wife Gladys; two sons, Kendon and Kevon; his mother Joyce; a brother Keith (Peggy); a sister Linda (Doug) Melander-Groff; and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father Pat Johnston. LEE - Margery Lee (nee Thompson), born
March 14, 1907 in England, died peacefully in her sleep at home in Calgary on September 28, 2000. Margery married
Charles Lee in 1939 and immediately moved to the West Indies. Over the next eight years, their four daughters, Ann Williams, Olive Dixon, Stella Thompson and Jean Hamilton, were born. In 1951, the family moved to Calgary. Charles and Margery, throughout their lives, were full partners and best friends (Charles Lee died in 1985). In Canada, they fell in love with Southern Alberta and enjoyed fishing, skiing, tennis and gardening, all of which Margery continued to enjoy despite the loss of her sight in the early 1980's. Margery was very much involved in Meals on Wheels, Canadian Club and the promotion of tennis in Calgary. In addition to her daughters, Margery is survived by her eight grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. The family wishes to extend special thanks to her friends and caregivers for the loving care and support that Margery received this past year. LEONARD - James (Jim) Elmer Leonard, beloved husband of Ollie Leonard of Calgary, passed away at the Father Lacombe Nursing Home on Saturday, September 30, 2000 at the age of 68 years. Jim was born
on March 28, 1932 in Crystal City, MB. At the age of nineteen, Jim joined the R.C.A.F. and took his training in Quebec. He was then transferred to Portage La Prairie, MB. His trade was Arrow engine mechanic. He served twelve years in the R.C.A.F., and took upgrade courses in Trenton, ON and Winnipeg, MB. While in Winnipeg he served with Search and Rescue. In 1959, Jim was transferred to Egypt with the U.N. forces and spent a year in the Sinai Desert with the R.C.A.F. He left the Airforce in 1963. In 1966, Jim moved to Vancouver and worked with his brother, Jack, in the catering business. While in Vancouver he joined the Masonic Lodge and was a member for over thirty years. In 1982, Jim moved to Calgary and took a position with the Calgary School Board. In 1984, he met Ollie and fell in love. They were married
August 4, 1984. Besides his loving wife, Jim is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law and three daughters and sons-in-law, Helen and De Boismier, Barry Krueger, Patricia and Andre Landry, Ronald and Doreen Krueger and Lynsay and Wayne Nordin; eight grandchildren, Jennifer and Kyle Jones, Candace and Chantal Landry, Barry and Ron Krueger, and Angela and Grant Reid. He is also survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Thomas and JoAnn Leonard of Victoria, BC; and a sister Olive McLean of Pilot Mound, MB. McKAY - Donna McKay, beloved wife of Richard Wuetherick, passed away suddenly on Thursday, September 28, 2000 at the age of 50 years. Donna was born
in Pincher Creek on April 16, 1950 and at the time of her death resided on the family farm. Donna was predeceased by her father Donald and mother Doris. She recently suffered the loss of her stepson Kevin in May of this year. She is survived by her loving aunt Clara and numerous cousins. Donna will be remembered for her kindness, generosity and willingness to lend a helping hand.
