VERA BELAGUS
December 08, 2004
VERA BELAGUS (nee BALICKY) It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Vera Belagus on Sunday, December 5, 2004 at the Victoria General Hospital. Mom was a very special woman who loved her family with all her heart. She devoted her life to her family and was a private person who respected and cared about others. Whether it was baking cookies or pies, and of course shopping for her grandchildren, you could always count on Mom. Vera was born
in Winnipeg on November 29, 1922 to Katherine and Thomas. She attended school in the North End during the great depression and helped service aircraft at No. 4 Hangar 5A0S during the Second World War. She also worked downtown at the sewing factories and The T. Eaton Co. Ltd. In 1955 she married
her husband Emil, who was the love of her life for 42 wonderful years. Their early years were spent raising a family. They moved to St. Vital in 1964 and Mom loved her new home, especially her flower beds and even the rabbits, squirrels and birds. In 1967, Mom returned to Eaton's and worked in the lingerie department of the downtown store until her final retirement in 1994. Mom loved working at Eaton's and often credited the store for having given her the opportunity to make many friendships with other employees and customers over the years. It seemed that wherever she went, she was always running into a familiar face. Mom was also able to save enough to help afford the pleasures of shopping, home decorating and travelling with Emil. They both enjoyed their trips to Hawaii, Las Vegas, and Fargo. In 1997, Mom lost Emil but continued to think of him every day since. She truly missed him. They are now together, forever. Mom will be lovingly remembered by her son Jeff; her daughter Lori; son-in-law Jim; and her precious grandchildren, Landon and Carmen, who were her pride and joy. Mom's love of her family will be cherished forever. She was a genuine friend and confidant who will be greatly missed. She also leaves to mourn her sister-in-law Steffie; and numerous friends and relatives (including nephews, Bill and Trevor and their families). Mom was also predeceased by her brothers, Peter, Steven and William. In accordance with her wishes, Mom will be cremated and there will not be a formal funeral service. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations may be made to a charity of one's choice. THOMSON Funeral Home - 669 Broadway - 783-7211
