GUDRUN ADAMS
November 22, 2004
GUDRUN BERTHA ADAMS (NANA) (nee OLSON) August 2, 1911 - November 18, 2004 For a very special mother, grandmother and great-grandmother with love It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gudrun Bertha Adams on Thursday, November 18, 2004 with her family by her side at the age of 93. Bertha was predeceased by her husband Stan; son Theo (Babby); son-in-law Bill McArthur; and her 11 brothers and sisters. She will be lovingly remembered by her daughters, Loreen McArthur and Sharon Davidson (Garry); her grandsons, Danny McArthur (Christine), James McArthur, Joe McArthur (Lisa); her grand-daughter Christy-Lee Adams; great-grandchildren, Willy, Nik, and Chelsea; daughter-in-law Marlene Adams; and numerous nieces and nephews. Bertha was born
in Winnipeg Beach on August 2, 1911. She married
dad in 1932 and moved to Selkirk to start their family. They moved to Winnipeg in 1936. After Dad's passing she moved to Pinawa where she lived with her daughter for 24 years before moving in July 2001 to her new home at the Kildonan Personal Care Centre. Mother achieved her dream of visiting Hawaii not only once but three times and was so happy to actually swim in the ocean. She loved to gamble and was always very lucky - she was able to go to Las Vegas nine times. She loved playing bingo and was adament about having certain numbers on her cards every time she played. She also liked bowling, music and dancing and really enjoyed doing her own thing on the dance floor. She used to play the piano and with her beautiful voice sing her children to sleep at night. She also enjoyed our annual visits to the Taste of Manitoba where she always had to have her mini hamburgers. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the West Kildonan Legion Branch No. 30 for over 30 years. She did beautiful embroidery work and was a great cook - she made the best apple pies. She had the greatest sense of humour and kept us laughing all the time. Her grandson was so thankful that she was able to attend his wedding in August 2004 - it was to be her last big outing. Mother was a feisty and tough lady and fought very hard to stay with us. Our hearts are forever broken. Bertha's family would like to express a very special thank you to the 1st floor staff of the Kildonan Personal Care Centre (you know who you are) for all your thoughtfulness, kindness, tenderness, compassion and care you extended to our mother. She was blessed to have you all in her life. Thank you also for the care and support you gave to the family during this sad and difficult time. You are truly very special people. You will be fondly remembered forever. A mother is pure joy, good comfort, strong hope, and sweet faith. A mother is love made real. A mother is a hand when you need it, a smile when you're sad, a lift when you're weary, a song when you're glad, a help when you falter, a word when you're blue, a hope for the dreams that are special to you. What a true blessing you are to us. Love you. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, November 24, at 11:00 a.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel at 1442 Main Street. Interment will be held privately at a later date. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, a donation to your favorite charity would be appreciated. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 586-8044

She also belonged to the Winnipeg China Painters Club, Manitoba Porcelain Artists and the Heritage China Painting Club. At times serving as President in these Clubs. In the last 13 years Bernyce took up watercolour painting and joined the Melrose Art Group and Local Colour, where she pained with her daughter Carolyn. Bernyce and Henry spent countless hours at McBeth House Seniors Drop In Centre, where she served as secretary for the past 16 years. She and Henry enjoyed the bi-weekly cribbage games and many pot luck dinners and festivities with their friends. PAULINE BRITTON
November 22, 2004
PAULINE BRITTON (ERHARDT) (nee SCHREINER) 1908 - 2004 Peacefully, on November 20, 2004, Pauline passed away at Beacon Hill Lodge, Winnipeg, MB, at the age of 96 years. Pauline will be lovingly remembered by her sons, Ronald Erhardt and his children, Peggy, Wendy, Jeffrey and Karen; Gilbert (Louise) Erhardt and their children, Clyde, Sherry, Donna, Della and Alex; and daughter Joyce (Alec) Parlin and their children, Tamara and Kevin. She is also survived by her many great-grandchildren and sister Ann Coon. Pauline was born
in Rhine, SK, one of 11 children. At a very early age, she was required to help cook for and feed the younger children and threshing crews on the farm. At 12 years of age, she was sent by her parents to Winnipeg to be a nanny and maid for a Winnipeg family. This early entry into an adult workforce did not give Pauline an opportunity to obtain a formal education. She was, however, self-taught in all areas of life and was an avid reader, competitive and shrewd card player and interested in world events. Prayer and her faith in God sustained Pauline throughout her life. Sadly, after 25 years of marriage to Alex Erhardt and his very sudden death in 1957, Pauline was left a widow. Pauline married
Victor Britton in 1965 and they enjoyed 33 very happy years together until Victor's death in 1998. Pauline was employed by Raber Glove for most of her younger years. When she was raising her children, the sewing machine was brought into her home where she sewed leather gloves in the evening when all the housework was done. She loved cooking and was famous for her knitting and gardening. In her later years, she and Victor enjoyed travelling throughout North America, which included a five year stay in Victoria, BC. Unfortunately, after Victor's death, her body, which was once so full of energy, became weaker. It then became necessary for Pauline to become a resident of Beacon Hill Lodge where she spent her last years. The family wish to especially thank Barb, Brenda, Bev, Miriam, Susanne, Rodney and the other dedicated staff on the 7th floor who were so kind to our Mother. Rest in Peace in God's loving care now Mother. You will be missed. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Flowers are gratefully declined. If you so wish, donations in memory of Pauline, may be made to a charity of your choice. SARAH DENHAM
November 22, 2004
SARAH DENHAM March 1, 1906 - November 19, 2004 On Friday, November 19, 2004, in her 99th year, after a recent stoke, Sarah Denham passed into eternal life at Beacon Hill lodge, Winnipeg, MB. Sarah was born
on a farm near Strathclair, MB March 1, 1906, the youngest child of John and Hannah McGregor. When she was five, her mother died and also a few years later her only brother Clarence died in the flu epidemic. After her daughter's death, Sarah's grandmother, Margaret McLean, who lived with the family, left to live on Fox Island, WA, USA. These sudden changes within the family had a profound impact on Sarah's life. Her growing up years were spent in Shoal Lake, MB, with one year on Fox Island. From her years on the farm, Sarah would recall reading to her blind grandmother from the Gaelic Bible. In her 90s, when greeted in Gaelic, Sarah could still respond in that language. Sarah always kept fond memories of her childhood in Shoal Lake. She often talked about sailing on the lake, her many friends, and the social activities that occupied young people in the early 1900s. She excelled in school and at the age of 16 began a teaching career at such rural schools as Raven Lake and Bonnie Doon, as well as schools in Minnedosa, Russell and Winnipeg. In later years she substituted in Fort Garry School Division and enjoyed several years teaching part time at Herzlia Academy in Winnipeg. On October 8, 1937 at Clanwilliam, MB Sarah married
Sidney Denham. After their marriage they lived in Dauphin, Russell, Yellowknife, Hamiota, McCreary and Winnipeg, as Sid was a school principal and later Inspector of Schools. Throughout their married
life they enjoyed travelling throughout Canada, the United States, Great Britain and Europe. Some years after Sid's death on March 18, 1989, Sarah moved into assisted living at the Quest Inn, Winnipeg. Here she formed a wonderful friendship with Roland (Rollie) Belliveau, who also resided at the Quest Inn. She received from him support that made her time there happy and secure. In 2001 Sarah moved to Beacon Hill Lodge. Sarah was a longtime member of Broadway Disciples United Church (formerly St. Stephen's Broadway) and a member of the United Church Women. Sarah was predeceased by her parents, John and Hannah McGregor; her brother Clarence; her sisters, Gertie Miller, Margaret Fairbairn and Crissie McGillivray; her nephew Clarence Fairbairn; and her great-niece Michelle Jackson. She is survived by her son Brent and wife Ruth; her nephew Sid Fairbairn and wife Shirley; her niece Donna Travis; by her several great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews; and by a great-great-great-nephew. The family expresses their thanks to caregivers at Beacon Hill lodge, who during Sarah's time there gave her much love and care. Special thanks to Peggy Thrush, Sarah's longtime friend and caregiver. We are grateful to Travis and Cody Gillis for the joy they brought to their Great Aunt Sadie. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, November 23 at Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home, at 1291 McGillivray Blvd. at 10:30 a.m. Presiding will be the Rev. Dr. Ray Cuthbert. In addition to farming he worked for the Municipality of St. Clements as both an operator on road building and as a foreman of Public Works. Mike was a farm equipment dealer, handling several lines of equipment and at the same time he was an auctioneer in the Selkirk area and surrounding district. He grew potatoes and forage seed which won prizes at the Royal Winter Fairs in both Toronto and Brandon. Mike greatly expanded the farm, developing new land in the Stead area. In 1969 the sod farm was started and today is a major supplier of nursery sod throughout Manitoba, northwestern Ontario and Saskatchewan. Mike will be missed by many friends in Arizona where he and Winnie spent 30 winters. He was dependable and a man of his word who worked hard all his life.
