Little, Eluned (Lynn)
Little, Eluned (Lynn) of Nanton, Alberta passed away on November 9th, 2008 at the High River Hospital. Lynn was born on August 19th, 1932 in Northamptonshire, England. She was raised in the United Kingdom and trained at St. Bartholomews, to become a nurse. At a young age, with other nursing friends Lynn immigrated to Canada to pursue her nursing career. Her nursing travels took her to various communities in Alberta, culminating with settling in the High River and Nanton communities. Burgess, James (Hap)
Burgess, James (Hap) - treasured husband, father, grandfather and brother, passed away peacefully at Sarcee Hospice on January 15th, 2009. Jim was born August 23, 1936 to Josephine (Bo) and Alex Burgess at High River, Alberta. After graduating high school in High River, Jim went on to University of Alberta and received his Civil Engineering degree in 1958. He worked predominantly in the steel industry from then until 1994, when he opted to start his own business, and operated Essentials in Moulding until illness forced him to retire in late 2006. Jim’s strength of character, determination and practical approach to life was our family’s inspiration. His tremendous intelligence and (sometimes cynical) wit drew people to him and made him a popular speaker at any event. His spontaneous humour lightened the burden of the worst task and enriched the lives of those around him until his final days. Jim enjoyed hockey (both playing and coaching) golf, travel, photography and the outdoors and was proud to discover his Metis heritage in later years. Jim is survived by his wife Jean (nee Thorp), whom he met in high school and married in 1959. He is also survived by his three children, Murray (Eda), Jo-Ann (David Wachowich) and Ken (Dallas Diamond) and four grandchildren, Jillian Burgess, Cameron, Angela and Philip Wachowich, as well as his brother Henry (Bud) Burgess (Agnes). The family extends special thanks to the doctors and staff at Sarcee Hospice for their loving care and compassion. Evening prayers will be said at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church, 1600 Acadia Dr. S.E., Calgary on Monday, January 19th at 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Bonaventure Church on Tuesday, January 20th at 11:00a.m. Interment will take place at Highwood Cemetery, High River following the reception at the church hall. If desired, memorial tributes may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 215 – 12th Ave. S.E., (Flr. 2), Calgary, AB T2G 9Z9. Wagner, Noel
I am deeply saddened to announce the death of my beloved husband, friend and mentor Noel Wagner. Noel died January 6th, 2009 after surviving a debilitating stroke in 2006. I was honoured to care for Noel at home with the support of an exemplary team of women, "Noel's Team", led by our precious friend Marlene Weins and his personal caregiver and right arm, Ernani. The journey was difficult but Noel persevered to reach a maximum level of independence. His goal was to walk and I thank Jamie, his physiotherapist, for helping him to achieve this, albeit just once. There were so many people who "journeyed" with Noel and me, and we hold you in the highest regard. Noel pursued his interest in broadcasting by enrolling in the Radio and Television Arts program at Ryerson University in 1954. Upon graduation in 1957, he got his first job as a writer for CRFN TV. In 1960 he moved to CHCT (Global), starting out in news, then becoming Production Manager and Program Manager. In 1974 Noel was promoted to General Manager. He retired in 1991. He was on the Board of Directors of the Calgary Opera and the Esther Honens International Piano Festival. Noel loved and was deeply loved by his grandchildren; Luka, Stella, Meika, Jackson, Gabriella, Dylan and Ariel. He will be greatly missed by his children Ryan, Kyle and Kris and his sisters Lola, Addie, Shirley and Ruth. His faithful companion Rocco will miss the comfort, love and treats that Noel provided daily. Noel had numerous interests, hobbies and pastimes and I cherish the memories of our travels around the world together. I believe I am a stronger and wiser person for having shared thirty years with this man of determination, courage and integrity. At times like this, people often wonder what they can do. Here are some ideas that Noel would approve of: start your day with Mozart; plant a garden; feed the birds; read a good book; do a crossword puzzle or two; see the possibilities in everything out there; watch a good game of hockey and/or baseball; have a sip of scotch. Noel's life cannot be summed-up on a page or even a book. Those who knew him well will remember his great capacity for life and hard work. Continued peace, love and compassion. Much love, Rocco and Thelma. A Memorial Service will be held at the Red Deer Lake United, Church, Hwy 22x west, Calgary, on Saturday, January 10, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. Rev. Jim Hillson officiating. If desired, in memory of Noel, memorial donations may be made to the ARBI (The Rehabilitation Of The Brain Injured), 3412 Spruce Drive S.W., Calgary, AB. T3C 3A4. Arrangements in care of Snodgrass Funeral Home (Okotoks) Ltd. Telephone 403-938-3111.
