Eileen was earlier employed at the Standard Knitting Company and later devoted her life to being a loving wife and mother. and raised in Winnipeg, and spent most of her life here. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, and sister. She will be greatly missed by her husband Fred; her daughter Joanne Loeb; and son-in-law Gerry; her dear granddaughters, Elizabeth and Catherine; and her dear son Jim. She is also survived by her brother Jack Tarnava and sister-in-law Pat. Mom was predeceased by her parents, Joe and Constance Tarnava; her sister Jean Tarnava; and her special aunt Jean Stanowski. There will be a private family entombment at the Assumption Mausoleum. A memorial mass will be held at St. John Brebeuf Parish on Wednesday, October 27 at 2:30 p.m. Thanks to those from home care at Tuxedo Villa and the Victoria Hospital, who made her last year as comfortable as possible. JOHN (JACK) EVOY On October 23, 2004, aged 88, passed away suddenly after a brief illness. He was predeceased in 1996 by Lil, his loving wife for 58 years. He is survived by his family, daughter Gale and Ken Whiteside and their family; Jay (Kimberly Cork) Whiteside and their daughter Payton Cork, and Kathleen Whiteside; son Lloyd and Marcia Evoy and their family, Elizabeth Bound and her children, Justin, Morgan and Meagan Bound; and other caring family, friends and neighbours. Dad will be most greatly missed by his dearest friend Marie and dog Bunny. Dad was born
and lived his entire life in Winnipeg, excepting his six years service in the Second World War. Dad was inventive and handy. He enjoyed golf, curling and bowling and particularly loved to watch a good boxing match. His greatest loss came in 1997 with the passing of his wife Lil. His health slowly declined but with the support of family, dear friends, neighbours, and Home Care (Shirley in particular) he was able to remain in his home. RYAN NOLAN FERGUSON September 2, 1980 - October 21, 2004 With the deepest sorrow, on October 21, 2004, at the young age of 24, Ryan was tragically taken from us as he was travelling from Snow Lake, MB after completing his shift at Mid West Mine, returning to Flin Flon where he had recently made his home. Left to mourn and forever miss Ryan are his father Terrance Ferguson of Flin Flon, MB; his mother Deborah L. Ferguson of Winnipeg, MB; his brother George Ferguson also of Winnipeg, MB; his new found partner in life Tiffany Mohr of Flin Flon, MB., as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, great aunts and uncles and many friends throughout Manitoba. There will be a funeral service for Ryan on October 30 at the Community Hall in Snow Lake, MB. JUSTINA (TEENIE) FOSTEY It is with sadness that we announce the passing of "Teenie" Fostey, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, peacefully on the morning of Sunday, October 23, 2004 at the Emerson Personal Care Home in Emerson, MB. Teenie was born
on July 15, 1915 in Overstoneville, MB where she resided until moving to Emerson in 1966. Teenie was predeceased by her loving husband Bill (in 1979); her parents, Phillip and Anna Brodoway; sisters, Ollie, Nettie and Ruth; and brothers, Mike and Johnny. Teenie will be sadly missed and held dear to the hearts of her daughters, Jean Baron, husband Ronald (Kamloops, BC); Ruth Kozak, husband Ernie; and Audrey Chapman, husband Gerry (Emerson, MB); and son John Fostey, wife Olga (Castelgar, BC). Also left to mourn her passing are Teenie's grandchildren and their spouses, Gwen Kozak (Mark Treichel), Sheri (Lorne) Robb, Darryl (Sharon) Baron, Duane (Karen) Baron and Brent (Carrie) Baron, Derek Fostey and Zohra (Kirk) Morgan; her great-grandchildren, Barry and Stephanie Robb, Bryce Morgan, Paul, Jocelyn, Chelsea, Melissa, Jasmine, Evan and Natasha Baron, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and brother-in-law Dan Edinger of Winnipeg. During her many years, Teenie was a lifetime member of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Tolstoi, MB. She was also an active member of Tolstoi's Ukrainian Ladies Auxiliary for many years. She loved gardening, bingo, crafts and the gatherings with her friends and family. She will be missed for her snappy comments and wittiness! If there was a good time to be had, Teenie was always the first in line! Our thanks go out to the doctors, nurses and staff of the Emerson Personal Care facility for their kindness, compassion and dedication in making Teenie's days cheerful and gratifying. Prayers will be held at the Knysh Funeral Chapel, 1020 Main St. in Winnipeg at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 27. Divine Liturgy will be said at the Ukrainian Greek Orthodox Church in Tolstoi, MB at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 28 with a luncheon to follow. CAMERON GRENVILLE GREEN Peacefully, on Monday, October 18, 2004, Cam passed away at the St. Boniface Hospital at the age of 88 years. Cam was predeceased by his wife, Hanna. He leaves to cherish his memory his son Barry (Chris); and his daughter Janet (Doug); his beloved grandchildren, Alison, Erin and Kevin Green and Steven and Jennifer Murray, as well as numerous extended family members. Dad was born
in Portage La Prairie and spent his younger years in Neepawa before moving to Winnipeg. After serving as an instructor during the Second World War he was released from the Army and, through mutual friends, he met and married
Hanna. Dad then began work at Western Engraving Bureau and through the years became co-owner and manager of the business. He was a member of the West Winnipeg Rotary Club and a cub scout leader. He loved sports and participated in the Polo Park Bowling League. He curled at the Pembina rink and was a longtime member of the "49ers" at the Southwood Golf and Country Club. The family would like to acknowledge with thanks the care providers of MICU at the St. Boniface Hospital and the security staff at his residence for their thoughts, concern and help over the last few months. Funeral services will be held at the Trinity United Church, 933 Summerside Ave. on Saturday, October 30 at 1:30 p.m. The service will terminate at the church. Flowers are gratefully declined. MARGARET GREENWOOD Peacefully, at the Grace Hospital, on October 22, 2004, Margaret Greenwood passed away at the age of 92. Margaret was predeceased by her parents, Arnold and Sarah Greenwood; her brother Alan Greenwood; and her sister Eileen Cann. She will be sadly missed by nephews, Ron (Daphne) Cann, Idris (Gaye) Greenwood, David Greenwood; niece Megan (Joe) Gauthier; and grandnephews, Sean Cann, Brett Cann, Marshall Gauthier, Michel Gauthier, and Joel Gauthier. Margaret was born
in Winnipeg on May 22, 1912. She lived virtually all of her life in the eastern area of Winnipeg, in Elmwood, East Kildonan and North Kildonan, until March of this year when she became a resident of the Charleswood Care Centre. Margaret spent her working life in the florist business, retiring from Sargent Florist in 1975. In 1976 she and her sister Eileen moved into their apartment in North Kildonan where they lived until Eileen's death in 1999. Margaret continued to live in the apartment until this year, when due to infirmity she resided at the Charleswood Care Centre. She took particular pride in the fact that she managed to live independently until she was 91. Margaret and Eileen travelled extensively throughout United States and Canada, which was a source of enjoyment to both of them. They were also longtime Blue Bomber season ticket holders and were avid football fans. Margaret will be remembered by friends and family as a feisty, but kind and gracious lady throughout her long life. Cremation has taken place. A service of remembrance will be held at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, October 27, at Klassen Funeral Home, 1897 Henderson Hwy. Internment will follow at the family plot in Elmwood Cemetery. LOWISE HAMILTON It is with a heavy heart and with great sadness that I announce the passing of my wife, sole mate and lifelong friend, Lowise Hamilton on October 24, 2004 at the age of 63 years. She also leaves to mourn and cherish her memory her sons, Mike (Lori), Shawn and David and grandson Jordan and surrogate grandchildren, Dallas, Jason, Terry and Larissa; sister Elaine; brother Ron as well as several nieces and nephews. Lowise was predeceased by her parents, Virginia and Russ Hammond. Lowise was a long-time resident of the Lockport area, where together with her husband and children built a loving home. She loved to travel and spent many happy hours camping with the family and establishing lasting friendships during this time. In latter years she also travelled with her husband Stu in his duties as a Safety Consultant in Western Manitoba. She particularly enjoyed our last trip together to Thompson, admiring the changing of the leaves and the beautiful colours of the fall season. She was an active volunteer, well noted for her abilities in the kitchen as well as her coordinator skills and gave endless hours planning events and helping others. For many years she was an administrator of a local cemetery where she gave comfort and support to others during one of life's most difficult times. Her zest for life was an inspiration to all that knew her and to those whose lives she touched. She will forever remain in our thoughts and in our hearts. Cremation has taken place. A memorial and celebration of her life will be held on Wednesday, October 27 at 10:00 a.m. at Gilbart Funeral Home, 309 Eveline St., Selkirk. EILEEN HUMENY (nee MOROZ) It is with great sorrow that we announce a golden heart stopped beating. Eileen Humeny, our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away suddenly on October 23, 2004 at the St. Boniface Hospital at the age of 81. Mom is survived by her children, Don (Ann) Humeny, Connie (Merlyn) Onyschuk, Brian (Amelia) Humeny, Nadia (Murray) Morrison; grandchildren, Brenda, Karen (Dan), Glenn (Theresa), Jeffrey (Charna), Janelle, Brittney, Paige; great-grandchildren, Danny, Madison, Tyler, David; sister Teenie Olyarnick; and brother Mike (Helen) Moroz. She is also survived by sisters-in-law, Teenie Bishop and Helen (Mike) Syroway. She will be dearly missed by her many nieces and nephews and close circle of friends. Mom was predeceased by her loving husband Dmytro in August 1974; her parents, Wasyl and Anna Moroz; brother Alex; sisters, Margaret, Mary and Rose; and great-grandson Bradley Deal. Mom was born
in Fraserwood on February 27, 1923. Mom and Dad were married
June 7, 1941 and enjoyed many happy times on the family farm in Fraserwood welcoming family and friends at any time. Later in life, Mom travelled to Europe, the Maritimes, Branson, Las Vegas, California, Alaska, both by land and sea, as well as cruising to the Caribbean. There were numerous trips to Vancouver and her casino jaunts with her niece and best friend Stephie Hykawy. Mom liked nothing better than a game of cards and visiting. Mom had a tremendous spirit which enabled her to embrace each day to the fullest. Family and friends will miss Baba's delicious perogies, perishke and numerous Ukrainian dishes. She enjoyed crafts, gardening and tending to her flowers. She was a constant support in the lives of her family and friends. She was compassionate and caring and extremely family oriented and took enormous pleasure and pride in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mom was a woman of strong faith and an active member of the Sacred Heart Church as well as a life time member of the Ukrainian National People's Home of Taras Shevchenko. The family wishes to thank the doctors and nursing staff at both Selkirk & District Hospital and MICU at the St. Boniface Hospital for their valiant efforts to save our Mom. Mom's pallbearers will be Glenn Humeny, Jeffrey Humeny, Ivan Seneshen, Merc Corkal, Robert Moroz and Bill Kravets. The cross bearer will be Mike Olyarnick. Prayers will be said on Tuesday, October 26 at 7:30 p.m. at Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Gimli. Funeral Mass will be celebrated by Fr. Peter Chorney on Wednesday, October 27 at 10:30 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Church on 7th St., Gimli. Interment will follow at Fraserwood Cemetery. SARAH KATZ On October 18, 2004, at the Sharon Home, Sarah Katz, beloved mother and Boba, peacefully passed away. Sarah was predeceased by her husband Maurice; her sisters, Mary Narvey, Clara Tennenbaum, Rosie Elstyne, Dorothy Segal, Mollie Shore; and her brothers, Jack and Sam Segal. Sarah will be lovingly remembered by her twin daughters, Barbara Katz of Vancouver and Carol (Jim) Cook; and son Benjamin of Regina; grandchildren, Rachel, Aaron and Fraser Cook, Martin Katz; and sisters-in-law, Ruth Katz and Louise Segal, who was like a sister to her; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services were held October 20 at the Chesed Shel Emes, officiated by Cantor Anibal Maas. Pallbearers were Charles Shore, Jim Cook, Aaron Cook, Ernie Chisick, Dr. Paul Olin and Barney Segal. Sarah was born
April 15, 1915, to Aaron and Bertha Segal. Sarah was educated in Winnipeg and taught briefly before marrying Maurice Katz in 1947. Sarah spent most of her later years working with Maurice in Moose Jaw at Katz Iron & Metal where she served the customers with a smile and was a self-taught, top-notch bookkeeper. She was a devoted mother, daughter-in-law and Boba. Her extended family was very important to her. She made it her personal responsibility to unite family members for every holiday and special occasion. Mom's grandchildren were the light of her life. They brought her much happiness and she enjoyed celebrating their milestones. Her needs were simple, and she took great pride to help others less fortunate as she knit sweaters and baked for Hadassah, where she held a life membership. At this time we would like to thank Malka Barklon who was Mom's companion and caregiver while she lived in the Sharon Home. Malka's love and devotion to Mom went far beyond the call of duty. Mom had a difficult time after Dad's passing. As much as we will miss her, it gives us comfort knowing they are together. In memory of Sarah, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Society or a charity of your choice.
