LIONEL FRANK ONIL BENOIT Peacefully, on Wednesday, October 20, 2004, Frank Benoit passed away at the Health Sciences Centre at the age of 79 years, with his family by his side, after a courageous battle with cancer. Frank is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Connie; sons Frank Jr. (Debbie), Glenn (Tara), Jim (Cheryl) Ronnie (Andrea), Kenny and Raymond; daughters Susan, Denise (Bob), Darlene (Danny), Yvonne (Harvey), Audrey (Kerry) and Annette (Randy); 32 grandchildren
; 11 great-grandchildren; brothers Joe, Maurice and Serge also numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three sisters and one brother. Frank worked for the City of Winnipeg for 32 years. Frank enjoyed life to the fullest. He especially enjoyed his family, wrestling and Lawrence Welk music. Dad loved his family very much and will be forever loved and missed by his wife and family. Dad was wonderful and generous man. The family would like to express their sincere thanks to the staff of MICU at Health Sciences Centre for their care and support. Prayers will be said on Monday, October 25 at 7:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 26 at 2:00 p.m. also at the Chapel. MARY SHEILDS BLANKSTEIN It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother and grandmother, Mae Blankstein on October 4, 2004 in Sechelt, BC. Mae was predeceased by her husband Laurence; her brother Robert; and her son Douglas. She leaves to mourn her daughter Laurie Lesko and husband Barry; as well as her grandsons, David (Cathy) and Jason (Kim); and great-grandchildren, Emma and Blake. Mae was a lifelong member of the Order of the Eastern Star as well as the Royal Canadian Legion. The family wishes to thank Dr. Tara Pigott for her wonderful care and concern. We would also like to thank the staff at both Totem Lodge and Shorncliffe Garden View for the marvelous care she received. There will be no service at her request.

GEORGE DUNCAN BOOTH, JR. May 30, 1962 - October 17, 2004 With great sorrow, we announce the passing of our son, brother, uncle and friend. Tragically on October 17, "J.R." was taken from us. His life included many joys from working in the bush with his dad, drywalling with his brother and hanging with "Suzie Bear", his companion. J.R. was a history buff, avid reader and loved old movies. He had a love for hunting and cruising in his 1982 Camaro Z28. He will be deeply missed by his parents, George and Irma, sister Brenda, sister Sheila (Michael, Brian and Kuma), brother James, and sister Gabrielle (Richard, Ricky, Rylee and Buster). NANCY GERTRUDE CARTER (nee PETTINGER) On Saturday, October 16, 2004, our beloved mother Nancy Gertrude Carter (nee Pettinger) passed away peacefully in Vancouver. She was born
April 29, 1913, at home in Carroll, MB, to Harry and Elizabeth Pettinger (nee Suggitt); their third child of six. She was raised at Carroll where she and her siblings spent many happy hours playing a variety of musical instruments and singing under the direction of their mother. She graduated from Normal School in Brandon and taught school until her marriage. She returned to teaching after her three children were in school - first at William Osler and then John M. King and Sargent Park. She was a longtime member of St. Paul's United Church where she was a member of the UCW and the choir. After moving to East Kildonan she was an active participant in church life at John Black Church. Predeceased by her brothers, Geoffrey (Myrtle), Linton (Helen) and Stanley; and her sisters, Rene (Owen) and Freda. She will be missed by her family, son Wayne (Marian Dunning); daughters, Carole (Gene Sobie) and Audrey (Bruce Allen); grandchildren, Catherine Carter Clark (Eric Clark), David Carter, Susan Reid (nee Sobie), Greg Sobie (Megan Perry), Nancy Allen (Mike Searson), Michael and Stephen Allen; many nephews and nieces; sister-in-law Marion Pettinger; and brother-in-law Warren Hildebrandt. She was a wise and admired Gran to her seven grandchildren. Her life and the example she set touched students, friends, neighbours, sisters of Twigs (Rebecca Lodge) and above all, her family. She loved nature and the harmony of it - how the rustling leaves and the breezes seemed to be talking to each other, when one really listened. We are proud, not in a pretentious way, to have called her "Mother." She raised her children with a soft hand, a gentle heart and a caring ear. Mom was giving and loving all her days. Her family was her life. We mourn her passing and celebrate Mom's special and wonderful life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to John Black Music Fund. ERNA CETKOVSKI (nee GOETZ) January 26, 1915 - October 20, 2004 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother at the age of 89. Erna was born
in Rhein, Sk., and in her mid teens moved with the family to Rosewood, Mb. With her husband Carl, she moved to the Springfield area where they farmed near Lydiatt and later near Transcona. After leaving the farm she resided in the East Kildonan area. Erna was predeceased by her loving husband Carl in May 1958; parents George and Magdalena Goetz; stepmother Pauline; brothers Alex, George, Irvin and their spouses. She will be sadly missed by her children, Lee (Ralph) Frederiksen and Ed (Elsie) Cetkovski, 11 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. The family wishes to extend special thanks to the nursing staff at Concordia Hospital for their care and thoughtfulness. Funeral services will be held Monday, Oct 25 at Green Acres Memorial Gardens, Hwy #1 East at Navin Road. Viewing will commence at 1:30 followed by the service at 2:00. Pastor R. Kruesel officiating. ANNIE (NANCY) VIOLET CHAPMAN Annie (Nancy) Violet Chapman passed away peacefully at Glengarry Hospital in Victoria, BC on October 18, 2004, with her family by her side. Born on January 22, 1918 in Transcona, MB. Predeceased by her husband, Clare, in June 1991. She leaves to mourn, her daughters, Edith and Margaret; son David, all of Victoria; granddaughters, Debbi (Port Coquitlam); Taya (Calgary); Dawn (Watrous, SK); Miranda (Moose Jaw, SK); great-granddaughter, Taylor (Port Coquitlam); sisters, Kay (Silver Falls, MB), Rose and brother Ernie, (both in Winnipeg), as well as numerous nieces and nephews throughout Canada. Nancy will be sorely missed by her many friends at Oak Bay United Church, Victoria Horticultural Society and its Judging Group, Victoria Flower Arrangers' Guild, and the Victoria Lapidary and Mineral Society, particularly its Copper Enameling Group. May 29, 1910 in Cello Leshniev, Western Ukraine. She travelled alone to Canada in 1927 at the young age of 17. In Winnipeg she met and married
Josaphat Chorney in 1933. She was a member of Workers Benevolent Association and of the Association of United Ukrainian Canadian Seniors Club. Mom was predeceased by her husband Josaphat in 1980 and beloved son Zane Chorney of Surrey, BC in 1997. Left, with loving memories to cherish are daughter Sonja and husband Alan Ingram; granddaughters, Lori and husband Garth Jackman, Alison and husband Edwin Malenchak of Fisher Branch, MB, Noelle and husband Hans Rawlins of Surrey, BC, Nicole Chorney of Surrey, BC; great-grandchildren, Andrew and Lindsay Jackman, Aynsley Malenchak of Fisher Branch, Savannah and Sterling Rawlins, of Surrey, BC, Rosemary Chorney, widow of Zane Chorney. At Mom's request, cremation and a private family interment has taken place at Brookside Cemetery. RALPH BARBER CLARKE B.A., C.L.U. With sadness, the family announces Ralph's peaceful death on Monday, October 18, 2004. Dearly loved husband of Ferne, who after 64 years of marriage, predeceased him in March of this year. Ralph is survived by his children, Elizabeth, Bruce and his wife Diana and by his beloved grandchildren, Melanie and Megan Clarke, Mark and Miles Gould. Only son of the late Walter E. and Louise Clarke, Ralph was born
in Medora, Manitoba on April 28, 1911. Educated at St. John's College School in Winnipeg, Ralph was blessed by friendships that lasted a lifetime with Frank Lupton and Jack Williams. He graduated from the University of Manitoba in 1933 and joined his father in running the family business, The Cash Store, in Minnedosa, Manitoba. In 1948, Ralph began a long and personally satisfying career in the life insurance business with North American Life (later Manulife) earning his Canadian Life Underwriter designation. In 1956, Ralph and family re-located to Brandon where he and Ferne lived with much happiness amongst their friends and neighbours on 27th Street for over forty-six years. Ralph chose to become an Anglican in his late teens and for the rest of his life was a dedicated servant of his church, first at St. Mark's in Minnedosa and then at St. Matthew's in Brandon. Ralph was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Minnedosa, the Scottish Rite and the Shrine Club in Brandon. He was also a member of the Elk's Lodge and the Kiwanis Club. In his youth, Ralph was a crack tennis player; he enjoyed golf and curling and was a loyal Blue Bomber fan to the end. Always actively interested in politics, he and Ferne were proud to become Honourary Life Members of the Progressive Conservative Party of Manitoba. A student and lover of Shakespeare, Ralph was well known for his great recall of long passages from his favourite works of the Bard, generally inspired by a healthy dose or two of single malt. On retirement, he developed a keen interest in genealogy, tracing his roots back to the United Empire Loyalists. Always a gentleman, ethical in business, caring of his family, Ralph will also be warmly remembered for his quick wit and fine sense of humour. The family wishes to thank the staffs of Hillcrest Place Personal Care Home in Brandon and Tuxedo Villa Personal Care Home in Winnipeg for their loving care and kindness to Ralph. Thanks also to Reverend Jessie Kehler for her timely words of comfort and prayer. JO-ANNE DI LALLO (nee GAGNON) Peacefully, with members of her family at her side, Jo-Anne passed away on Thursday, October 21, 2004 at the age of 37. Jo-Anne was predeceased by her infant son, Angelo and sister-in-law Theresa Gagnon. She leaves to cherish her memory her husband John; daughter Christina and son Vinny; her parents, Martial (Butch) and Irene Gagnon; her brothers, Gerald Gagnon of Sioux Narrows, Gilles (Suzanne) Gagnon and Bob Gagnon of Winnipeg; her sisters, Elaine (Arni) Popplestone, Lynne McLean and Suzanne (Scott) McLean, all of Pilot Mound. Also mourning her passing are her parents-in-law, John and Barbara Di Lallo; sisters-in-law, Lori (Garth) Stevenson, Donna (Terry) Topham and Joann Di Lallo (Loretta Chubaty), all of Winnipeg, as well as many other family members, numerous friends and former colleagues. Jo-Anne was born
in Winnipeg on July 11, 1967, and attended school in St. Boniface graduating from Pierre Radisson Collegiate. For the past seven years, Jo-Anne had been battling cancer. Throughout her illness, she was a model of strength and determination. She maintained her dignity and a positive outlook as the illness progressed. She was an inspiration to all who knew her. The family wishes to extend special thanks to Jo-Anne's CancerCare nurse, Lori Lavigne for her support and compassion throughout her illness. GEORGE RAMSAY DICKSON George Dickson, born
April 20, 1914, passed away peacefully at Deer Lodge Centre on Tuesday, October 19, 2004. He was predeceased by his mother and father; brother John; sisters, Helen and Florence; and brother-in-law Bernie Moody. George is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Irene; son Murray (Adele); two grandsons, Graeme and Scott of Edmonton, AB; several nieces and nephews. George was born
in West Kildonan and grew up in the Fort Rouge area where he attended Earl Gray and Kelvin High Schools. In his younger years, George was a member of the Sea Cadets for ten years and was proud of his First Aid Certificates and attaining the rank of Sub-Lieutenant. George was a traveller for Scott Bathgate until he enlisted in the R.C.A.F. as a Radar Technician where he served overseas with the R.A.F. On his return, George was employed with Air Canada in Winnipeg and Montreal, retiring after 28 years service. George settled in Charleswood and became active in the community serving as a school trustee for ten years. He was also an active member of the Charleswood Legion, Masonic Lodge and Army and Navy Unit 283. George suffered a serious stroke in 1987. However, with the help of Dr. Smart and George's determination, he managed to cope with his disability and was able to spend his summers at his beloved cottage Bonnie Dundee, the family cottage in Loni Beach. George was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather and our best friend. We'll miss you George. My heartfelt thanks to the most caring and compassionate staff on T5, East 3 and Dr. Narandes of Deer Lodge Centre. Also to Dr. Smart for his care over the years. Words cannot express my gratitude to my relatives, neighbours and friends who were always there for me. In complying with George's wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no service. Beloved husband of Bernice Drennan (nee Kuch) of 25 years of marriage; loved father of Douglas and his wife Joan of Calgary, Sheila Dickson and her husband Ross of Mississauga; loved stepfather of Dale Kilimnik, David Kilimnik and his wife Terry, Sheila Liang (nee Kilimnik) and her husband Philip of Winnipeg; dear grandfather of Scott, Tracy, Sarah, Graeme, Chelsea, Cienna, Kevin, Dar-Cee and Nicholas. Gordon was predeceased by his brother James Drennan of Naples, FL in 2000; and his stepson D'Arcy Kilimnik of Winnipeg, MB in 1987. Gordon was a lifetime resident of Winnipeg, Second World War Naval Veteran, and had a career spanning nearly 50 years in the insurance industry. He was a long time employee of Reed Stenhouse, an avid golfer, a loving husband, father, grandfather and a great friend. A celebration of Gordon's life will be held on Sunday, October 24 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the Southwood Golf and Country Club, 101 Markham Rd. Our sincere appreciation to Drs. in Winnipeg January 17, 1945, attended school here and moved to Toronto in the early 70s. He was predeceased by his parents, Margaret and Marno. He is survived by his wife Ann; his children, Bronwyn Lewis (Owen), Signy, Eric and Ryan; and his grandson Spencer; his sister Carol Stifora; his brother George (Carol); nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends. A memorial service was held in Toronto on October 22, 2004.
