Marie Dawn Johnson

Funeral services for Marie Dawn Johnson, 75, of Vacaville will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at McCune Garden Chapel. The Rev. Leroy Gainey of First Baptist Church will preside. Burial will follow at Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery.

Born Nov. 13, 1922, in San Rafael, Mrs.  Johnson died Dec. 14, 1997, after a long illness. She was a resident of Vacaville for 41 years.

She was a homemaker and mother for 53 years, and was also an avid cook and gardener.

Mrs.  Johnson is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon and David Rico, Judi and Frank Cruces, and Linda Morris, all of Vacaville, and Jan and son-in-law Richard Bradley of Tucson, Ariz.; grandchildren, Michelle Johnson, Joaquin Martinez, Jason Cruces, Danielle Wetzel, Dany and Joel Rico, all of Vacaville; Jesse Vasquez and Johnny and Rachel Bradley, all of Tucson, Ariz.; and four great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband, Chief Master Sgt. (Ret.) John P.  Johnson in 1990.

Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. today at McCune Garden Chapel.

Billy Joe Jones

Funeral services for Billy Joe Jones, 57, of Vallejo will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Nadeau Family Funeral Home, 180 E. Monte Vista Ave.

The Rev. Vic Matson of Community United Methodist Church in Fairfield will preside. Burial will be private in Skyview Memorial Lawn in Vallejo.

Born Dec. 30, 1939, in Paragould, Ark., Mr.  Jones died Dec. 16, 1997, in St. Mary's Hospital in San Francisco after a brief illness.

Mr.  Jones had been a welder and pipefitter for 36 years. He was employed by the Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 343 in Vallejo.

He was a Vallejo resident for 52 years.

Mr.  Jones is survived by his daughter, Patti Bales of Vacaville; son, Richard of Cloverdale; sisters, Clarice Rolland of Napa and LaVeda Bracken of Vacaville; brothers, Russell of Vallejo and Alvie of  Texas; and five grandchildren.

Celestino 'Sal' Salinas

Funeral services for Celestino "Sal" Salinas, 64, of Dixon will be 10 a.m. Monday at St. Peter's Catholic Church. The Rev. Maurice O'Brien of St. Peter's Catholic Church will preside. Burial will be at Silveyville Cemetery.

Born Oct. 17, 1933, in Brownwood,  Texas, Mr. Salinas died Dec. 11, 1997, in San Diego after a brief illness. He lived in Dixon for 47 years.

Mr. Salinas worked for 30 years at the Armour Meat Company. He was a member of the American Legion of Dixon, Moose Lodge of Dixon and the Butchers Union.

He is survived by his children, Melba Cruz of Sacramento, Joe of San Luis Obispo, Teresa of Sacramento, Tino of Seattle, Wash., and Jorge of New York; three grandchildren; a sister, Mary Seargent of Sacramento; a niece; a nephew; and several friends.

Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday. A rosary will be 7 p.m. at Milton Carpenter Funeral Home.

Etoise 'Pinky' Lowrie

Funeral services for Etoise "Pinky" Lowrie, 71, of Winters will be 2 p.m. today at Smith's Colonial Chapel in Winters.

Burial will be in Winter's Cemetery. The Rev. Ron Richardson will officiate, and her grandchildren will be the pallbearers.

Born April 22, 1926, in Yellville, Ark., Mrs. Lowrie died Dec. 17, 1997, at Sutter Davis Hospital in Davis.

A graduate of Tulare High School, Mrs. Lowrie spent her life caring for her family. She was a 51-year resident of Winters.

Mrs. Lowrie is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Phillip Bishop of Winters; sons and daughter-in-law, Mike and Margee of Dixon, and John Gilley of Vacaville; sisters, Alcie Keeter and Vertle Swayne, both of Tulare; grandchildren, Richard Bishop of Winters, Darrell Bishop and his wife, Tanya of Winters, Mike Jr. of Dixon, Josh Lowrie and his wife, Alisson of Dixon, and Elizabeth of Winters; two great-grandsons, Scott and Cole Bishop of Winters; great-granddaughter, Madison of Dixon; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relations.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Hershel and Dexter Gilley; brother, Etheal Gilley; and husband, Dudley Lee, who died Aug. 2, 1996.

Arrangements are by Davis Funeral Chapel Inc.

Nora B. Gondry

Funeral services for Nora B. Gondry, 87, of Dixon will be 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Milton Carpenter Funeral Home in Dixon.

Katherine Morris of Dixon United Methodist Church will preside. Burial will be in Oakhill Cemetery in Danville, Ill.

Mrs. Gondry died Dec. 17, 1997, in Dixon after a long illness.

Born March 1, 1910, in Thayer, Ill., she moved to Dixon 35 years ago. She worked as a bookkeeper for Dixon Drug Co. and was a homemaker.

Mrs. Gondry is survived by a son, Albert Gondry of Arlington, Wash.; daughters, Nora Gerrard of Novato, Janet Kann of Manteca and Judy Alonzo of Dixon; sister, Agnes Pichon of Dixon; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Morris; son, Robert; and daughter, Laura.

Memorial contributions can be made to a favorite charity.

Ethel M. King

Graveside services for Ethel M. King, 98, of Vacaville will be 2 p.m. Monday at Mountainview Cemetery in Reno.

Born March 25, 1899, in Scotia, Mrs. King died Dec. 17, 1997, at Vacaville Convalescent and Rehabilitation Center after a short illness. She moved to the area seven years ago.

Mrs. King was a housekeeper at the University of Nevada. She enjoyed crocheting and crafts.

Mrs. King is survived by her daughters, Dorothy Bailey of Vacaville, and Verna Reynolds and Leona Frankhouser, both of Bella Vista, Ark.; numerous grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday in Vaca Hills Chapel.

Arrangements are handled by Vaca Hills Chapel.

Fern Peters

Graveside services for Fern Peters, 73, of Dixon will be 2 p.m. today at the Silveyville Cemetery. Gary Walker of Valley Church will preside.

Born Sept. 30, 1924, in Dunsmuir, Mrs. Peters died Dec. 14, 1997, in Dixon after a long illness. She had been a resident of Dixon since 1936.

Mrs. Peters worked as a dietary cook for the University of California, Davis, Student Health Services. She retired in 1985.

She was a 50-year member of Pocahantas and was a member of the Aurora Rebekah Lodge. She enjoyed cooking, crossword puzzles and spending time with her family.

Mrs. Peters is survived by her husband, Charles of Dixon; son and daughter-in-law, Butch and Cindy of El Paso,  Texas; daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra and Larry Cole of Allendale, daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and David Ward of Dixon, and Terri and Mark Morrison of Lake Arrowhead; mother-in-law, Thelma Peters of Dixon; six grandchildren; and several other family members, friends and pets.

Visitation was Thursday at Milton Carpenter Funeral Home.

James Virgil Schuette

Funeral services for James Virgil Schuette, 52, of Whitmore will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Lawncrest Memorial Park in Redding.

Born March 28, 1945, in Richmond, Mr. Schuette died Dec. 16, 1997, at his home after a short illness. He had lived in Whitmore for 19 years.

He worked as a crane operator for Operating Engineers Local 3 for 32 years. He was an avid fisherman and outdoorsman.

Mr. Schuette is survived by his wife of 32 years, Irene; son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Kerri of Vacaville; daughter, Lisa of Whitmore; brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert and Mary of Pinole, and Daniel and Carolyn of Antioch; brother, Gene of Oregon; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Casper and Ethel.

Arrangements are by Lawncrest Memorial Park.

Myrle Maxwell

Graveside services for Myrle Maxwell, 94, will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Tremont Church Cemetery. The Rev. Catharine Morris of Dixon United Methodist Church will preside.

Born Jan. 3, 1903, in Yountville, Mrs. Maxwell died Dec. 18, 1997, in Sutter Davis Hospital after a brief illness. She was a longtime resident of Dixon.

Mrs. Maxwell was active in the Tremont Mite Society, serving as a secretary for many years. She was a member of the Dixon Grange for more than 50 years. She was also a past matron and 50-year member of Golden Rod Chapter, Order of Eastern Star.

Mrs. Maxwell is survived by her niece, Grace Anderson and her husband, Ward, of Red Bluff; great-niece, Nicki Sass and her husband, Jerome, of Redding.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Pearl Linn; brother, George Linn; and husband, John Cameron, in 1929.

Arrangements are by Milton Carpenter Funeral Home.

Joseph Ciarlo

Funeral services for Joseph Ciarlo, 85, of Fairfield will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Bryan-Braker Funeral Home in Fairfield.

The Rev. Stan Sanderson will preside. Burial will follow at Rockville Cemetery.

Born Feb. 6, 1912, in Vacaville, Mr. Ciarlo died Dec. 18, 1997, in Fairfield after a long illness. He was a resident of Fairfield for 22 years.

Mr. Ciarlo moved to San Francisco as a young boy, and had owned and operated Ciarlo Brothers, a furniture refinishing business in San Francisco and San Rafael, for more than 40 years.

He retired and moved to Vacaville in 1975 and then to Fairfield in 1981.

He was a longtime member of the NorthBay Guild. He was a member of the Moose Lodge in Fairfield. He was an avid hunter.

Mr. Ciarlo is survived by his wife, Berniece "Bernie" of Fairfield; son, Ronald of Mill Valley; sister, Eleanor Gardella of Santa Rosa; brother, Donald of San Francisco; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation will be 12:30 to 2 p.m. Tuesday at Bryan-Braker Funeral Home.

Carol Lynn  Schmidt

A memorial service for Carol Lynn  Schmidt, 52, of Fairfield will be 2 p.m. Monday at Bryan-Braker Funeral Home in Fairfield.

James E. Harvey will officiate. Burial will be private in Fairmont Memorial Park.

Born July 3, 1945, in Hoisington, Kan., Mrs.  Schmidt died Dec. 19, 1997, at NorthBay Medical Center after a short illness.

She was an artist working with watercolors and acrylics. She also had worked as a nurse's aide at Intercommunity Hospital, and at Explosive Technologies.

She was a past member of the Eastern Star. She lived in Fairfield for 37 years.

Mrs.  Schmidt is survived by her mother, Lillian Burgan of Fairfield; daughter, Karen Constant of Fairfield; daughter and son-in-law, Sandy and Louis Wilson, both of Portland, Ore.; grandchildren, Megan Wilson of Oregon and Jillian Constant and Curtis Constant, both of Fairfield; and numerous cousins.

Victor D. Sondreal

Graveside services for Victor D. Sondreal, 78, of Sacramento will be 2 p.m. Monday at Rockville Cemetery in Suisun. Stan Sanderson will preside.

Born Feb. 20, 1919, in Eureka, Mr. Sondreal died in a car accident in Sacramento on Dec. 18, 1997. He lived in Fairfield for 45 years.

Mr. Sondreal served in the Army for three years during World War II, and worked in civil service at Travis Air Force Base as a supervisor of shipping and receiving for 28 years. He worked out of Vallejo Teamsters Local No. 490 for eight years.

He was a member of the American Legion Post 182, and the Disabled American Veterans Suisun-Fairfield Chapter No. 81. He loved to travel, and he was an avid sports fan. He was a San Francisco 49ers fan.

Mr. Sondreal is survived by his daughters, Peggy Heenan of Odel, Iowa, and Marcia Larson of Vancouver, Wash.; sons, Edwin Duden of Santa Barbara, Gary Samuelson of Elder, S.D., and Steven Samuelson, Larry Samuelson, and Ron Strifler, all of Fairfield; sister, Myrtle Ostertag of Colorado Springs,  Colo.; 17 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Arrangements are by Bryan-Braker Funeral Home.

Hester Jean Fowler Collinson

Funeral services for Hester Jean Fowler Collinson, 58, of San Jose will be at 10 a.m. today at McCune Garden Chapel. The Rev. Leroy Gainey of First Baptist Church of Vacaville will officiate.

Visitation will be from 8 to 10 a.m. at McCune Garden Chapel. Burial will follow in Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery.

Born Feb. 19, 1939, in Feldon, Ill., she died Thursday, Dec. 18, 1997, in San Jose after a sudden illness. She had lived in San Jose for 47 years.

Mrs. Collinson worked in the call center for Kaiser Santa Teresa Community Hospital and she belonged to San Jose Moose Lodge No. 401.

She is survived by her daughters, Deanna Collinson of Reno, Nev., Sandra Pennix of Antelope and Cindy Janitz of San Diego; grandchildren, Katrina Pennix, Joshua Pennix, Chad Janitz and Jenifer Dinsmore; brother and sister-in-law, Glen and Robbie Fowler of San Jose; niece, Paula Fowler of San Jose; nephews, Alan and Andrew Fowler of San Jose; and great-niece, Krystal Deakin.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Elza Fowler and Ethel Goodson.
