YEARWOOD, CLANCY MAE In Rio Linda, Ca. on Nov. 25, 2001. Born Sept. 7, 1922 in Salt lake City, Ut. Clancy was preceded in death by her loving husband John Joseph Yearwood, and brothers William Rodda (KIA WWII) and brother David. Born to William and Mae Rodda, Clancy was the oldest of seven children and the only girl. Clancy lived in Southern California before moving to Rio Linda to be near her daughter Linda K. Tarvin. Clancy is survived by her loving daughter Linda K. Tarvin, loving son Richard John Yearwood, loving son- in- law Jerry Tarvin, and Romaldo Castro. Clancy also survived by her loving brothers Tony, Rulon and Ron Rodda of Salt Lake City, and loving brother Darwin Rodda of Lancaster, Ca. Clancy also survived my many loving nieces and nephews, family and friends. Clancy loved and lived to take care of others. Clancy passed away peacefully in her home- with her children at her bedside. Interment private in Los Angeles, Ca. Memorial will be held at the Church of Latter Day Saints, 8583 Watt Ave. on Monday, Dec. 3, 2001 at 11:00 am.

BRUBAKER, MARIE Went to heaven on 11-23-01 after a 7+ month battle with Lung cancer. Marie was born in Oklahoma in 1923. She married Harry Brubaker in 1948. Harry got cancer and went to heaven in 1992 at the age of 78. They lived in So. Sac from the early 1950's. Sherie Brubaker was fortunate to be born to Harry and Marie in 1955. CALLAGHAN MD, THOMAS J. Died peacefully on Nov. 29, 2001 at the age of eighty-eight. He was dedicated and devoted to his family, his practice and life itself. Born to James Callaghan of Ireland and Alice Ormsby of England on Jan. 20, 1913 in Sites, Colusa Co., CA. Graduated from Sacramento High School, Stanford University and Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. Married Virginia Frazier of Mascoutah, Illinois on Feb. 8, 1942. Just until last Spring, he was an avid square dancer, hunter, fisherman and hiker. He loved camping, reading, inventing, writing, and studying history and archeology. He wrote and published a book called "How Civilizations Die". He did medical research that was published in medical journals on folic acid, headaches and the vegas nerve. He received the Bronze Star during WWII in the Army Medical Corp. He is preceded in death by his wife Virginia, sisters Hilda and Alice, and brother James. He is survived by his siblings Josephine, Marguerite, Pat, and John. Also his children: Rolla, Barbara, Mary, Robert, Debbie, Nancy, Patty, Tom Jr., Jim and Bill. Also by eighteen grandchildren: Kristine, Troy Colleen, Sean, Clancy, Ira, Emily, Liam, Inga, Rebecca, Jessica, Russell, Nathan, Dan, Erin, Jennifer, Taylor, Sarah and Ryan, and by three great grandchildren: Isaac, Noah and Aislin. Remembrances may be made to St. Philomene School Scholarship Program. There will be a visitation one half hour before services. CHALMERS, ELIZABETH Born January 27, 1912 in Portland Oregon. Passed away on November 27, 2001 in Sacramento. Survived by her son, William Chalmers; daughter, Adair Leonard; grandmother of Crystal Chalmers, Jennifer Helton, Stephanie Chalmers, Tricia Chalmers, Susan Fusick, Karyn Cross, & Robert Cross; & great-grandmother of 9. She lived in Portland, Oregon until high school graduation, then moved to Sacramento. She continued her education by attending many classes during her life. She had a long career with the federal government. She was a person of many interests and always had a full calendar. She enjoyed & was active in volunteer work including the Red Cross, Friends of the Library, Right to Life, SPCA, volunteer telephone counselor for Sacramento Police Department, & docent at the Sacramento Zoo. She was also a member of the Daughters of Scotia. She had many friends and never said "no" to anyone who needed her help. She had a great love for animals and owned many in her lifetime. GIBBEL, BETTY Born in Los Angeles in 1934. Passed away in Sacramento on November 20, 2001. She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Paul Gibbel, her children Debra & John Dias, Paul Z. Gibbel, Leslie J. Gibbel, Pamela & John Santich and Margaret and Dean Sorensen. She is also survived by her grandchildren Kathy, Eddie, Paula, Tisha, Marc, Daniel, Jeremy, Andrea, Stephanie, her great grandchildren Amber and Kelsey; her sisters Beverly Hughes, Janice Reno, Rita Newman and her brothers Don Napier, Frank Napier, Rick Napier and Mark Napier and many nieces and nephews. GONYEA, KENNETH ALLIE Port Angeles, Washington resident Kenneth Allie Gonyea died November 21, 2001 at the age of 79. He passed away at the Dungeness Courte Alzheimer Community Center in Sequim, Washington. Kenneth was born in Anoka, Minnesota to Allie Gonyea and Marguerite Dobbins on October 15, 1922. He is survived by his daughter; Roberta L. Freitas, brother; James E. Gonyea, sister; Marylou Ebel, four grandchildren and his nieces and nephews.
GORDILLO, JOHN A. Died Nov. 27, 2001 in Sacto. HUENERS, SUSANNE ADAIR (BOARDMAN) Susanne Adair (Boardman) Hueners, 61, of Sacramento, died Wednesday (November 21, 2001) at the Sutter Roseville Hospital. A celebration of life will be held at a future date. She was born May 1, 1940, in Dunsmuir, CA, the daughter of William and Alberta (Harvey) Boardman. On September 4, 1959 in Medford, OR she married Gary Hueners, who survives. They moved to Sacramento in 1960. Survivors, in addition to her husband include a son, Wayne of San Bruno, CA; a daughter, Wendy of Sonoma, CA; and three brothers, Harvey of Denver, CO; Jack of Tigard, OR; and Albert of Reno, NV. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 1615 Morse Avenue, Sacramento, CA 95864-2666. Cremation is under the direction of the North Sacramento Funeral Home. Sue was a beautiful, loving, kind, thoughtful and magical person. Incredibly caring, she loved people and never gave up on anyone. She added class and light to every room she entered. She was a great friend and a great lover. She was unforgettable, an amazing human being. She will be forever missed.
HULTQUIST, WARREN Our Uncle Warren passed away on Nov. 24, 2001 at home in Sacramento. He was a loving, caring and spiritual man who enjoyed his large circle of family and friends. Warren's love and devotion to Adam, Barbara, Sam and Mari was ever-present. He was born in Massachusetts in 1923, was a graduate of the University of Washington, and received his doctorate from UCLA. Warren was a retired Professor of Geography at CSUS and was a former member on the Board of Trustees at St. Michael's Episcopal Day School. Warren is survived by Adam, Barbara, Sam and Mari Chaccour, Lucy, Robert and Jeanne Hultquist and many friends. A memorial service will be held on Nov. 30th at 3:30 at St. Michael's Episcopal Church, 2140 Mission Ave, Carmichael. KAGAN, WESLEY LOUIS Born February 3,1987. Tragically taken from us on November 23, 2001. His life was short but his legacy will live forever. Wesley was gifted in many ways. His ability to make people laugh was immeasurable. He was loved by all who knew him. He will be missed by his mother Carol Kagan of Fair Oaks; father Gerald Kagan of Orangevale; brothers Andrew, Eric and sister Heather. Loving grandson of Edythe and Irving Kagan of Sacramento. He had many other relatives too numerous to mention, but a very special Grandma named Hedy and Grandpa Ed Murphy of Tucson, AZ that loved Wesley as much as anybody in this world. KEARSLEY, BERTHA JENNIFAYE In Bountiful, Utah, November 24, 2001. Wife of the late Edwin R. Kearsley; mother of Ralpheyn Jones of Bountiful, Utah, Sharon Reade of Sacramento, California, and Jan Peterson of Hurricane, Utah; mother-in-law of Evan Jones, Charles Reade, and Kenneth Peterson; sister of Harriet Riggan of Salmon, Idaho, Anna Ruth Quandt of Sandy, Utah, and Shirley Stevens of Salt Lake City, Utah. Also survived by 13 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild. A native of Blackfoot, Idaho, aged 91 years. LANE, JOHN E. In Sacramento, CA November 27, 2001, with his wife of 55 years, the former Orvada Flinn, at his bedside. John was born in Elwood, IN on April 12, 1926. At the age of 16, shortly after America's entry into World War II, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and served with the Second Marine Division stationed in New Zealand. He fought in three of the fiercest battles of the Pacific War: Tarawa (November 1943), Saipan (June 1944), and Tinian (July 1944). Mr. Lane later turned his war experience into the respected book "Bloody Tarawa" with co-author Eric M. Hammel. John moved to California in 1951, where he lived the rest of his life. He maintained his membership in Post 9627 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and was a 50-year member of Moore Lodge #303 F&AM and was a lifetime member and past president of the California Chapter of the Second Marine Division Association. Besides his wife, John is survived by three sons: Jack of Auburn, CA, Jim and John D., both of Sacramento, CA. Brother of Conrad Lane of Muncie, IN and Kay Lane of Antioch, CA. Grandfather of Jennifer Berger, Sharon Lane Davis, John L., Stephen, Joshua, David, Justin, Gabriel and Damon Lane. Great-grandfather of Breeze Davis and Zachary Lane. Brooks, Cynthia D. Bullock, Alphonzo L. Love, Jr., David A. Love, Douglas E. Love and Tonice R. Berry. Dear grandfather of 7 and great-grandfather of 1. He is survived by his former wife, Thelma R. Love and sister, Ruth B. Love. Preceded in death by his father, Alvin Love, his mother, Burnett C. Love, his brothers, Alvin Love, Jr. and Alfred L. Love and his sister, Ida Love Barrington. After retiring from the U.S. Air Force in 1958 as a Radar Operator, Alphonzo began employment with the State of California. He worked at the Department of Motor Vehicles as a computer programmer/analyst and managed the operations department. After leaving in 1975, he opened A. L. Love's Original Southern Smorgy restaurant in Sacramento. In 1978 he opened the Silver Palace in Old Sacramento. Two years later, Alphonzo purchased health food products company, Cornucopia. In 1981, he moved the company to Los Angeles and in 1993 he opened Southern Deli. In 1995, Alphonzo retired and returned to Sacramento. He used this time for volunteer work, taking classes and enjoying his family and friends. Alphonzo's legacy of hard work, kindness and dedication to his family will be remembered and admired by many. MAHONEY, MICHAEL E. Of Sacramento, passed away on Monday, Nov. 26, 2001, age 64. He is survived by his mother, Helen Whittington, sister Sharon Parlette, daughters Michele Stromick, Noelle Peterson, Claudine Ortiz and 10 grandchildren. Preceded in death by his father J. Emmett Mahoney. A Stanford graduate, his career as a lobbyist made him well known at the State Capitol. In his retirement he pursued his love of running and tennis, and was ranked within the top 10 players in his division for Northern California. He will be sadly missed by many relatives and friends. At his request, no services will be held. A gathering for family and friends will be arranged.
MALLORY, THELMA L. Born September 13, 1927 in Bellingham, WA. Passed away peacefully at home on November 23, 2001 at the age of 74. She was a longtime resident of North Highlands. Thelma worked for the Sacramento County Department of Human Assistance 22 years before retiring in 1988. She was a lifetime member of VFW Auxilary 4647, Auxilary President 1971-72, and held other offices through the years. She was preceded in death by her mother, Flora Anderson, two brothers, Chuck Lancaster and Cliff Lancaster, and daughter-in-law, Linda Mallory. She is survived by three children, Joe Mallory of Brookings, OR., Patsy and Ralph Cornwell of Citrus Heights, and Jeff and Lori Mallory of North Highlands; sister-in-law, Betty Lancaster; eight grandchildren, Stephanie and Vaughn Harnden, Cheryl and Mike Fletcher, Sean and Peggy Mallory, Boise and Teresa Lawrence, Chad Cornwell, Jeremiah Mallory, Sara Cornwell, and Allison Mallory; and eight great-grandchildren, Ashley Harnden, Trevor Harnden, Dylon Harnden, Staci Lawrence, Boison Lawrence, Wayne Mallory, Marie Mallory, and Wyatt Mallory. MAXWELL, KENNETH L. In loving memory of Kenneth L. Maxwell who passed away on November 10, 2001. Kenneth was born in Napa, California, raised in Modesto, graduated Phi Beta Kappa from UC Berkeley in 1937 and moved to Sacramento that same year. He rose to Senior Supervising Statistician during his 40 year career with the State of California. He was an active member of Westminster Presbyterian Church since 1938, serving in many roles including deacon, elder, Commissioner to General Assembly and Clerk of the Session. While with the State, he was a member and Chapter President of the California State Employees Association. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mary Virginia Maxwell of Sacramento; children, Ronald Maxwell, Faye Elizabeth Lyser and Edward Maxwell of Sacramento and Lois Hallen of Burlingame; and five grandchildren. He was buried at Lakewood Memorial Park in Hughson, near Modesto, on November 16, 2001. A memorial service will be held Saturday December 1, 2001 at 2 p.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church. MAYES, HAROLD REX Went home to be with the Lord on November 21, 2001. He died peacefully in his Davis home after a long battle with cancer. Born August 4, 1933 in Hamilton, Missouri to Joseph and Fay Mayes, who predeceased him. He will be sadly missed by his wife, Dolores Mayes; children, Ernest Frost, Rene Viergever, Rendy Draper, and Rex Mayes; brother Joe Mayes and wife Azile; and ten grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at St. Anthony's Parish, 511 Main Street (at the corner of Grant and Main) in Winters at 2PM on Sunday, Dec. 2. SALTER, SHIRLEY F. In Sacramento, November 17, 2001. Loving mother of Diana Salter of Elverta, Ray Salter of Sacramento, Frances Artau of Elk Grove and Wesley Salter of Alaska. Devoted grandmother to Glenn, Megan, Devory, Nicole, Miles, Savanna and Zachary. Great grandmother of Janelle. Beloved sister of Leota Bacon of Rancho Murieta, Dorothy Neely of Wilton and Holly Wisdom of Elk Grove. Also survived by numerous other loving relatives and friends. A resident of the Elk Grove area all her life, aged 67 years. In her school years she belonged to the 4-H Club and tennis team at Elk Grove High School, graduating in 1952. She was also a graduate of Sacramento City College, a member of the Sacramento Traditional Jazz Society, Sutter Stutters Walking Club, Florin Mall Walkers, gold member of Sports Leisure Vacations, Red Hats and many other groups and clubs. Shirley was a loyal and thoughtful friend and loved by all who knew her. Her passions in life were books, music, education, genealogy, learning and passing on her wisdom to others. She enjoyed teas, hummingbirds and sunflowers. She gave so much and will be in our hearts forever. SCHIERZ, EDITH CANOTE Age 92, born in Norfolk, Nebraska on January 25, 1909. Died in Sacramento, California on November 28, 2001. Edith and her family moved to Stockton in 1925. She graduated from Stockton High School in 1926. She met and married Theodore Peterson in 1928 and they had 3 children. Edith is the beloved mother of June Haflich and husband John, Robert Peterson and wife Gail, of Sacramento and Joanne Turnquist and husband Kenneth, of Yorba Linda, California. Preceded in death by her loving husband, John H. Schierz and one granddaughter. She was a proud grandmother of 12, great-grandmother of 25 and great-great-grandmother of 7. Edith lived most of her adult life in Stockton, Ca. She worked at Mor-Pak cannery as the office manager for 30 years. In 1950 she married John Schierz and moved to French Camp, Ca. They were very active in the Grange and the Chamber of Commerce, where Edith served as secretary. She and her husband moved to Roseville, Ca. in 1986. SILVEIRA, JOSEPH W. Age 75, passed away Tuesday, November 27, 2001 following a prolonged illness. Born in Stockton California, he was a veteran of the Korean war and worked for many years for New York Life. He will be missed by all who knew him for his wit and understanding. He is survived by his daughter Deborah (Giles), in Mesa, Arizona, his son Kevin Silveira, in Antelope, California and three grandchildren, Brandon Giles, Karli (Giles) Wyler, and Bryson Giles. SNYDER, MARDELLE ANN Born July 21st, 1916 in Grass Valley, California to John and Beatrice Nankervis. Passed away peacefully, November 26, 2001, in her home in Sacramento. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Carl Snyder. Loving mother to William Snyder and wife Terry, Donald Snyder and wife Shauna, and James Snyder and wife Kathleen. Grandmother to Mark, Amy, Timothy, Michael, Jonathan, Matthew and Daniel Snyder. Survived by her brother, William Nankervis and wife Marion and nephew, William Nankervis Jr. Also survived by dear friends, Glen Forbes and Helen Stout. Mardelle spent her life devoted to her family and friends. She was an avid gardener. Mardelle worked as a bookkeeper for the George Foundry in Grass Valley prior to moving to Sacramento in 1942. She worked as a bookkeeper for the Village 5 & 10 and William Glen until her retirement. Mardelle and her husband were founding members of St. Philomene's Parish and active in the school and Cub Scouts. She will be sorely missed by all who knew her. Friends are invited to a Rosary at Presentation Catholic Church, at Robertson and Norse, Sacramento, at 7:30 PM on 12/06/01 and to attend a memorial mass at 10:30 AM at Presentation Church on 12/07/01. SOOHOO, MITZIE Peacefully passed away on November 25, 2001 at the age of 78. Preceded in death by her husband Stanley, son Gary, daughter Betty, and brother-in-law Frank. STARN, RICHARD B. Of Carmichael, CA, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 8, 2001. Dick served our country as a first sergeant in WWII, and worked for many years as a County Sealer for the Weights and Measures dept. He is survived by many loving and admiring nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held Saturday Dec. 1st at 4 p.m. at St. George's Episcopal Church in Carmichael. Everyone who knew Dick thought of him as a true gentleman. STOUDT, CHARLES F. "CHIC" Born in Binghamton, NY on July 29, 1922. Chic grew up primarily in Philadelphia, PA. He served with valor during WWII in the US Army in Europe. After the war he returned to Philly where be met Ann McKee. They were married in 1950 and had great adventures as Chic worked his entrepreneurial way to North Carolina where he established his own metal stamping business, Custom Industries. Chic is survived by his wife Ann, his two sisters Sister Martha Stoudt and Mitzi McKenna, his daughter Linda Foster and her husband Rick and by his two granddaughters Shannon and Kristie Foster. He was predeceased by his son Robert Drake Stoudt and by his brother John Stoudt. Chic will be missed by all of the family and friends (human, canine and duck) whose lives he touched. A memorial service will be held on Dec. 1st at 2 pm at First Covenant Church of Sacramento.
