Passed away peacefully at home at the age of 98 on 10/16/01. Raymond, her husband of 71 years preceded her in death in 1994. Survived by her beloved family, daughter Anne, grandson RobRoy II and his wife Karen. A devoted great-grandmother to Hannah, RobRoy III, Jonathan, & Ashley. She retired from the State in 1965 and was active in Eastern Star and Inner Wheel. RITTENHOUSE, RONALD J.
Passed away Monday October 15, 2001 at the age of 45. Ron was born July 17, 1956 in Philadelphia Pennsylvania. Beloved son of Diane and Al Rittenhouse. They later moved to California spending most of his adult life in the Sacramento area. He is survived by two minor sons, Ronald Jr. and Benjamin Rittenhouse. He is also survived by five brothers and sisters, Brad Rittenhouse, Debra Ludden, Kim Rittenhouse, Stephen Rittenhouse and Kelli Degarmo. Also sister-in-laws Crystal Rittenhouse and Kathy Rittenhouse. Along with 15 nieces and nephews. Ron will be missed dearly by his family. RODGERS JR, JOHN MENDES
Surrounded by his family, he passed from this earth into heaven on October 17, 2001. Born May 21, 1947, he was a lifelong resident of Sacramento. He is survived by his loving parents: Katherine and John M. Rodgers, Sr., his loving partner Alaine Ross, who affectionately referred to him as "Alvin", his four children: Catena Rene Rodgers and her fiancee Van Bowen, Jenifer Amberson and her husband Harold, Michael Rodgers and his wife Kathleen and Lori Lupton and her husband Ken. Grandchildren: Nicholas & Christian Bowen-Rodgers, Brandon Amberson & the late Matthew Rodgers, Dylan & Bailee Lupton. He was the Master of "Barney". He also leaves countless family and friends. John was a Sergeant in the U.S. Army during the Viet Nam era. He was retired since 1995 from Regional Transit after 26 years. He was an avid hunting, fishing and car enthusiast. An active member of the American Portuguese Society, California Waterfowl Association, Ducks Unlimited, Sacramento Safari Club, etc. He was always one to lend a helping hand; he touched many lives and as a result, will be greatly missed. SAVAGE, ERNEST R. LT. COL. U.S.A.F. RET.
In Roseville, October 11, 2001. Born August 29, 1918 in Sacramento. A native Sacramentan. Son of California pioneers who originally settled in Sutter Creek. Mr. Savage attended Bret Harte Elementary and Sacramento High School. He is a graduate of Sacramento City College. During the Depression Era, he was with the California Conservation Corps in Plumas County. Upon the outbreak of World War II, he volunteered for the Army Air Corps. With completion of Navigation Training School, he was assigned to 390th Bomb Group in England. He flew missions over Germany. After sustaining heavy damage to his B-17 "Blues in the Night" by German ground artillery, he survived a crash into the North Sea. In Between his duties in the Korean and Vietnam conflicts, he worked for the U.S. Postal service. Survived by his second wife Ruth, Sons Stephen and Gregory, Stepson Wolfgang, Sister Audrey Monahan, Ten grandchildren, and one great grandchild. Frank Richard Segarra passed away October 15, 2001 in Roseville. He was born in Auburn, Ca April 9, 1935. A lifelong resident of Sacramento, the city he loved, began his next great journey October 17, 2001. November 1 would have marked his 68th year. He left behind a loving family and abundant memories of his kindness, compassionate nature and unquenchable fascination for the great mysteries of life and death. WOLLAM, RYKK (RICHARD EUGENE)
Born April 10, 1963 passed on October 17, 2001. Survived by friends Myra, Judy, Jordy, Kathy, Clayton and countless others. Survived by his grandparents, Phyllis and Jim Mott-Trautman; father, Harold; mother, Sharon Denny; sister, Laurie Agerton; brothers, Bobby and Jamie; aunts, uncles, three nephews, and one niece. Rykk graduated from Palmdale High School in 1981. He earned his BA degree from CSU Sacramento and possessed a Professional Clear Single Subject Credential in Social Science, as well as a Multiple Subject Credential, Learning Handicapped Credential, Resource Specialist Program Credential, CLAD certification and a Masters Degree in Special Education. He received an Administrative Credential from LaVerne University. "Mr. Rykk" worked for Washington Unified School District for nine years. He taught a Special Day Class, and was a social studies instructor and Resource Specialist at Golden State Middle School and River City High School. He also taught third grade at Bryte Elementary and was the summer school principal at Westmore Oaks during the summer of 1999. Rykk requested that friends get together to celebrate his life. WOOLCOTT, LILLY
In Sacramento on October 16, 2001. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Elmer Woolcott. She is survived by her son, Donald Woolcott and daughter, Ruth Adolphson and her husband, John. Grandchildren, David and Vanessa Adolphson, Molly Adolphson and Thomas Adolphson. Numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Mrs. Woolcott was an active member at Trinity Lutheran Church for more than 84 years. She will be missed. Bob Hongslo loved family, football -- and Del Oro High's 'chain gang'
To Bob Hongslo, it was "the best seat in the house."
That's the explanation he offered whenever someone asked why he volunteered for "the chain gang" during Del Oro High School's home games in Loomis.
Mr. Hongslo, 75, who died Monday of pneumonia, was a fixture on the football field, serving as a volunteer official for two decades.
Starting in the 1970s, when his children were students there, he became a member of Del Oro's "chain gang," which measures intervals for first downs.
After retiring from his job as an industrial engineer at McClellan Air Force Base in 1980, he continued helping out at Del Oro for another 13 years, until his grandson began playing football for Rocklin High School.
"Bob said, 'I'm hanging it up because I want to watch my grandson play football,' " recalled his wife, Delores.
Robert Clayton Hongslo was born in Alcester, S.D., the only child of the former Amelia Johnson and Almar Hongslo, a state worker.
After graduating from high school in 1943, he joined the Navy in time to see action in the Pacific during World War II. He was an electronics technician aboard the destroyer USS Waller. Wounded in combat, he was awarded the Purple Heart.
Returning to his hometown after his 1946 Navy discharge, he worked as a bartender, truck driver and as a laborer in road construction, said his wife, the former Delores Steeneck, whom he married Jan. 9, 1951.
That same year, the couple moved West and settled in the town of Alameda, where they had relatives. Mr. Hongslo worked in a gas station there until he landed a job as a civilian electronics technician at Alameda Naval Air Station.
In 1963, after transferring to McClellan, Mr. Hongslo and his family settled in Loomis.
As his three children grew up, he coached in the Tri-Cities Little League and for his daughter's softball team.
When his children began high school, Mr. Hongslo became active in the Del Oro High School Parents Club. He participated in school fund-raising efforts as well as volunteering for the "chain gang" during football season.
"He was into Del Oro - big time. He just loved kids. He liked being around all that energy," his wife said. "Our house on Brace Road was kind of like a meeting place for young people. There were people there all the time, and he loved it."
Five years ago, when Mr. Hongslo's health began to fail, the couple moved to Rocklin, his wife said.
In addition to his wife, Delores, survivors include sons, Scott of Rocklin and Todd of Arlington, Wash.; daughter, Diane Euer of Rocklin; and five grandchildren.
A memorial service is scheduled for Nov. 9 - what would have been his 76th birthday - at 1 p.m. in Lutheran Church of the Resurrection, 6365 Douglas Blvd., Roseville.
MORROW, DALLAS J.
Born September 19, 1910 and passed away in Folsom, CA, October 15, 2001. She was a long time resident of Orangevale and Folsom. She was a member of the Orangevale Woman's Club and very active in Penny for Pines, helping to replant the forest. She is survived by three children: Verlie Young of NY; William Skinner of NY; and Shirley Thomas of AZ; 5 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren. ROBINSON, ALAN R.
Passed away on October 23, 2001 after a lengthy illness. Alan was born in Albany, CA on March 12, 1936, the son of Maxine and Alan Robinson (deceased). The loving husband for 19 years of Christine. Father to Wayne Robinson of Andover, Kansas, Ronald Robinson (deceased), and Kathleen Mary Schmidt of Witchita, Kansas. Grandfather to Craig Robinson, Kenneth, Kevin and Kendell Schmidt and Tara Robinson. Stepfather to Michael Marsden, Kathleen Orr, Margaret Harrison, Elizabeth Ficker, and Martha Del Valle. He was a loving step-grandfather to 15 children. Alan retired from the retail area and was a resident of Sacramento for 25 years. Hobbies included being a world traveler, painting, music, reading, political activist, mother and confident to many. Born in Montpelier, Indiana on November 21, 1927. She was a graduate of Montpelier High School and the International Business College in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Donna passed on Saturday, October 20, 2001. She is survived by her husband Lewis Tuttle, her son Richard Lee Sprunger of San Marino, California, his wife Maureen and their 3 children, Richard Jr., Russell and Noelle. She is also survived by her daughter Michelle Schief of Roseville, California, her husband Bob, their 2 children Ryan and Sara, and by her sister-in-law Lois Mason of Culver City, California. Prior to retirement, she was employed by Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois, California State University, Sacramento, and the El Dorado Union High School District, Placerville, California. She had been active in the Hangtown A's and the Wally Byam Caravan Club. Donna was an avid quilter, an accomplished pianist and a devoted member of the First Church of Christ, Scientist in Roseville, California. WELLS SR, GEORGE WILLIAM
Age 79, of El Dorado, died Oct. 17, 2001. He was born May 22, 1922, in Parsons, KS. Mr. Wells had three years of college and served for 32 years in the U.S. Air Force Strategic Air Command as a Pilot Squadron Commander and retired with the rank of Colonel. He received many medals including the Distinguished Flying Cross and Medal of Honor. He was extremely patriotic, flying his American flag every day. He was involved for years with youth and was instrumental in beginning the PeeWee League Baseball in Parson, Kansas in the 1940's. He co-owned George Wells Cash Market in Parsons for five years after his World War II honorable discharged and sponsored a team, The Bulldogs, for 11-12 year-olds which won three state championships in a row. He then worked at the Parsons Ammunitions Plant, first as a worker, then as a supervisor before being recalled to active military service, he retired in 1974. He had underprivileged children visit his Loomis Ranch where they fished, swam and had fun on a go-cart along with other recreational activities. He spent many years as a charity volunteer helping children and doing volunteer work at his church. He was the main contributor to "Children In Need", a non-profit organization. He was a man of character with caring and understanding, a generous man and a true friend. He told many jokes and funny stories making others laugh. Early in his flying days he loved to run his father- and brother-in-law off their tractors by buzzing them with his airplane. He flew air lifts to bring the wounded and injured to safety during World War II. He shared candy with children who were freed from one of the camps. He played softball for 32 years & managed & coached several baseball teams. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Dorothy Mae Tunget-Wells, who died May 2, 2001. He is survived by his children, Jeanine Allen of Placerville and George W. Wells Jr., of Ripon, five grandchildren and one great-grandson. Graveside services will be conducted at 1PM, Thursday, at East Lawn Sierra Hills, 5757 Greenback Lane in Sacramento with the Rev. Steve Dickerson officiating. Arrangements were made by Chapel of the Valley in Roseville. Shirley Moore was trusted aide to Ronald Reagan
Shirley Moore, a longtime Sacramento resident and a former personal assistant to Ronald
Reagan when he was governor and president, died Oct. 4 after a lengthy illness at her home in Gold River.
Mrs. Moore was in her 70s.
Her career of working for public officials began in the 1960s when she worked for several Butte County officials including District Attorney Keith Lyde and County Counsels George Kading and Dan Blackstock.
She came to Sacramento in 1968 to work as administrative assistant to Lucian Vandegrift, then-Gov. Reagan's first health and welfare secretary. In 1974, Mrs. Moore joined the governor's staff as a special secretary and later became administrative secretary to Orange County Assemblyman Bruce Nestande.
She worked on the Reagan presidential campaigns in 1976 and 1980 and served in the 1980 presidential transition office, after Reagan won his first term. In January 1981, Mrs. Moore joined the White House as an administrative assistant to the Deputy Chief of Staff Michael K. Deaver and was the traveling secretary to President Reagan aboard Air Force One.
She was so trusted and valued that she went to Camp David every time Reagan did, said Dennis LeBlanc, who first met Mrs. Moore in 1972 when he was assigned to then-Gov. Reagan's protective detail with the California Highway Patrol.
"She was a very professional and classy lady," said LeBlanc, who served as a special assistant to President Reagan.
LeBlanc said Mrs. Moore was very protective of Deaver and the Reagans and didn't hesitate to put people in their place if they needed it, regardless of their positions.
"She knew her bosses so well she could speak for them and know when they could and couldn't be disturbed," LeBlanc said.
In 1984, she returned to California to serve as personal assistant to Edwin W. Thomas, the regional administrator of the U.S. General Services Administration.
Born and raised in Oroville, she graduated from Oroville High School, where she met her husband, Richard "Dick" Moore.
During World War II she was a certified welder in the shipyard at Alameda, where she worked on the ship that took her future husband to New Guinea as a paratrooper.
Mrs. Moore retired from public service in 1990 and joined her husband in managing their Sacramento-based equipment company, GCS Inc.
The couple retired together in 1992 and enjoyed traveling, staying current in political matters and focusing on family and friends, said her daughter, Pamela Moore.
Shirley Moore's husband died in 1996, two months short of their 50th wedding anniversary.
Survivors include her daughter, Pamela Moore, who lived with and took care of her mother in Gold River; son, Kevin Moore and his family, wife Robin and their daughters Leslie Alyson and Julie Anne, all of Grass Valley; niece Susan Forbes Luck, her husband Steve, and their children, Erika and Shannon, of Antioch; niece Debra Forbes Stirton and her husband, Charles, of Benicia, and their children - Brandi and her daughter Sierra, of Tahoe City; and Alix and his son, Shane, of Concord; stepsister, Betty Patten and her husband Bill of Tucson, Ariz.; and several cousins and family members including Jack Bartley and his wife, Pat, of Walnut Creek.
At Mrs. Moore's request, no memorial services were held. In lieu of flowers, her family asks that a memorial donation be made in her name to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund.
ANDERSON, CLARA JEAN
Passed away in Sacramento on October 18, 2001. A native of Sacramento. Beloved mother of Gregory P. Anderson and Deborah J. Anderson. Loving grandmother of Gregory M. Anderson, Sarah J. Anderson and Brent R. Anderson. Loving great grandmother of Dylan Anderson and Macie Anderson. Also survived by 3 brothers and 2 sisters. Preceded in death by her son Brent R. Anderson Sr. in 1984.
