Blalock. Dear father of Jackie Spriggs and Larry Blalock, both of Orangevale, Jeri Watts of Oregon, Tom Blalock of Sacramento, Barbara Robertson of Santee and the late Judy Weiler. Loving brother of Louie and "Doc" Blalock. Devoted grandfather of 15, great-grandfather of 7 and great-great grandfather of 2. He was a Pilot in the Army Air Corps during WWII and employed at McClellan AFB for 32 years. He enjoyed the ocean, Bodega Bay and Abalone and Crab Feeds with his friends and family. He spent many a morning at Arden Hills for water aerobics, more for the friendship than the exercise! CARMAZZI, DANTE JOHN Passed away peacefully at his home in Sacramento, on October 19th, 2001. He is survived by Marilyn Carmazzi, the loving mother of his seven children and their spouses: Danny and Gloria, Peter and Maril, Paul and Karen, Christine and Vic, Bill and Joanna, James and Angela, and Mary Ann and Jeremiah. Loving grandfather of Matthew, Giovanni, Angelina, Veronica, Dominic, Paul Jr., Megan, Anna Marie, Gennavieve, Francine, Dalileah, and Tyler. Dear friend of Clint and Vanessa. A native of San Francisco, and a long time resident of Sacramento, aged 76 years. Dante was raised in North Beach with his older brother and younger sister. He graduated from USF with a major in English. Dante loved the arts, music, golf and football. He was a long time employee of Slakey Brothers. CARR, GEORGE E. Born November 26, 1919 in Haddon Heights, NJ. Passed away October 21, 2001 in Sacramento. George grew up in New Jersey, attended U.C. Berkeley and graduated from Chico State College. A WWII Veteran, he served as an instructor pilot. George worked as a Certified Public Accountant for several firms and non-profit organizations, most recently as Controller for the Sacramento YMCA. He enjoyed service to our Lady of the Assumption Church and the Optimist Club. He will be dearly missed by Dorothy Carr, to whom he was married 45 years. He is also survived by son Richard Carr of Kelso, WA; daughter Teresa Carr of Berkeley; son John Carr of Clayton; son Thomas Carr of Rocklin; son Peter Carr of Ukiah; and sister Sis Keville of Illinois. CASTILLO, CHRISTOPHER LEE Passed away October 18, 2001. Born on August 25, 1964 to his loving mother, Diana Castillo and the late John Hoskins. Proud father of Christopher and Joaquin Castillo. CLARY, DARE F. Born January 25, 1922 in Cranberry, North Carolina. Passed away October 19, 2001 in Auburn, California. Although she lived most of her life in California, she never forgot her deep seated Southern roots. She was very active, supportive and giving in her community. Preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, Dallas Clary; grandson, Chris Spacht; and daughter-in-law, Anna Clary. COOK, JOSETTE ALICE Of Galt, passed away October 20, 2001, age 72. Born October 16, 1929 in Sacramento where she was raised and attended schools. She married Richard A. Cook in 1946 in Reno, NV. The couple moved to Texas in 1948 for a short time and resided in Sacramento until 1992 when they moved to Galt. She was a sales clerk for Weinstocks for 20 years. Josette loved life, spending time with family and friends, planning the next meals during the present meal, sewing, reading, traveling, and horse shows. She is survived by husband, Richard; sons, Randy of Elk Grove and Alan of Lodi; daughter, Gayle Winter of Galt; sister, Kate Neves of Paradise; 10 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by son, Richard D. Cook. At her request, services will not be held. Private inurnment at Rio Vista Cemetery. DRAIN, JOSEPHINE ROSE Passed away at UCMD after a sudden stroke on October 19, 2001. Mrs. Drain, 93, was born August 17, 1908 in Lincoln, Illinois. A housewife for over 50 years and loving wife of Milton J. Drain who passed away in June of this year. She is survived by her only son James Christopher Drain and daughter in law Barbara. Mrs. Drain was an active member of the All Hollows Alter Society for many years and was a driving force along with her husband in the operations of the St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Store for more than 20 years. Richard served in the USAF for 21 years, after his retirement he worked for 13 years for the Dept. of Defense at McClellan Air Force Base. Richard served in law enforcement for 33 years. He was a member of the VFW and Trinity Pentecostal Church. Richard loved riding his Harley Davidson. Richard loved his wife and family very much and will be missed by all who knew him. HANCOCK, DRUSILLA LEONA Born on February 14, 1920 (Valentine's Day) in Willows, CA and passed away October 19, 2001 in Sacramento. Drusilla attended Western School of Business in Sacramento where she met her husband, Chester E. Hancock. She worked as a secretary, was a Girl Scout leader, and taught Sunday School for 36 years. She was an intelligent, talented, and caring woman who did decoupage, was a rescuer of stray cats, gave great dinner parties, wrote poetry and plays, and generously gave of her time to others. She was the daughter of James and Leona Bush, beloved wife of Chester for 63 years, cherished mother of Jeannine Hobkirk of Elk Grove, Kent Hancock of Maryland, and Carole Tiedemann of Wisconsin, Grandmother of Steven and David Bancroft, Brian and Chris Hancock, Scott and Matthew Tiedemann, and Stacey Winter, Greatgrandmother of Niels, Laurana & Julia Hancock, sister of Jimmie and Jay Bush and the late Joan Flinsbaugh. HAUSSLER, WILLIAM J. Born January 3, 1922 in San Francisco, CA. Passed away October 4, 2001 in Vancouver, WA at the age of 79. Preceded in death by his wife Elizabeth in 1999. Survived by his daughter Mary Klock of Vancouver, WA; son Robert B. Haussler of Benicia, CA; four grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. Married in 1942, he lived in Sacramento from 1955 until moving to Vancouver 6 years ago. Graduated from Cal. Berkeley in forestry. He worked for the California Parks Systems from 1948 to 1977. A member of the Cal. Forestry Assoc., and Faith Presbyterian Church in Sacramento where he was very active. He enjoyed sports and fishing. HOULIHAN, SUSAN A. Surrounded by her family, she passed from this earth on Oct. 18, 2001. A third generation Californian, she was born on 8/21/40 to Charles and Mary Greene of Walnut Grove. Former Sr. Class President and graduate of Castilleja H.S., she went on to attend the University of Colorado. A long time resident of Fair Oaks, she had been involved in the Jr. League and was recently retired from the CA Housing Finance Agency. She is survived by her husband Jim, daughter Kathleen and her husband Leif, son Michael and his wife Monica, her sister Debbie, 6 grandchildren and stepmother Esther.

KEMP, GEORGIA Departed this life October 16, 2001 in Sacramento at the age of 83. She joins her beloved husband Willie Kemp in God's heavenly Kingdom. Georgia Ann Pearl Johnson Kemp was one of sixteen children born to Savannah and William Johnson on September 7, 1918 in Dubberly, Louisiana. She accepted Christ at an early age and was an active member of Kyles Temple AME Zion Church. Georgia was a faithful member of Adah Chapter No. 1 Order of Eastern Star and Past Worthy Matron. She resided in Houston, Texas and later moved to Sacramento. Georgia leaves to cherish her memories two daughters, Doris VanHook, and Helen Freeny; two sons, Walter and Danny Kemp; two sons-in-law, Nathaniel VanHook and Lewine Bud Freeny; and two daughters-in-law, Wanda and Anna Kemp. She also leaves 12 Grandchildren; 21 Great-Grandchildren; 3 Great-Great Grandchildren; 10 Brothers and Sisters; and a host of family and friends. MANDELLA, THEODORE JOSEPH Passed away on Sunday, October 21, 2001, in this city, at the age of 84. He will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 59 years, Yolanda Marie, and his devoted sons Vincent Joseph and Richard Paul and his wife, Robin Lynn. He is also survived by his loving brother Joseph, his sister-in-law, Elsie Mandella and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Preceded in death by his parents, Saverio and Elena Mandella, sisters Sara Matranga, Josephine Musacchia, Mary Mangold, Lillian Norcia and brother Sal Mandella. Born in Sacramento on October 30, 1917, he attended Sacramento High School and is an Air Force Veteran of WWII. For many years he owned and operated a business in West Sacramento. An avid golfer, he played frequently with family and friends at many local courses. For many years, he belonged to the Sundowners Square Dance organization, the Dante Club, and served his church as a man of faith.
