Shirley Garrett

Shirley Anne Garrett, 67, a Vacaville resident and former 33-year resident of Vallejo, died Sunday at NorthBay Medical Center-Fairfield.
A Celebration of Life will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Community Presbyterian Church in Vacaville with the Rev. Jim Jenson officiating. Inurnment will be private. Contributions preferred to American Cancer Society, 1652 W. Texas Street, Fairfield 94533.
Barbara L. Messner
Jan. 9, 1935 - June 4, 2004
Barbara died in her home in Vallejo, Calif., June 4 of a long-standing illness with her family and friends in attendance.
She was born Jan. 9, 1935, in Indianapolis, Indiana. She moved to Vallejo in 1943 with her parents, George and Ruth Bridges, and her sisters, Joyce Boles, now deceased, and Pauline Bearden, Newport Beach, after the death of her brother, Harry Lynn, at the battle of Pearl Harbor, 1941.
Barbara was educated in Vallejo schools, graduating from VHS in '53, and was the co-owner of a clothing store, "The Toggery."
She then moved to South Lake Tahoe in 1965 with her first husband, Mel Laub, along with her four children, now adults, Mike Laub (Tamara) and Joey Laub (Helen), all of Zephyr Cove, Nevada, Suzanne Snyder (Dave) of Vacaville and Sam Laub (Judy) of Sacramento.
In South Lake Tahoe, she was office manager of Laub Law Office, a Democratic Party delegate, and a local artist, decorator and gardener, as well as being active in the community in a gourmet cooking club. She was also a fisherman known to drop everything if the weather conditions were right and "fished till she dropped."
Barbara then returned to Vallejo in 1975, where she was active in real estate, forming her own mortgage company. She married Harold D. Messner in 1976, with whom she blessedly gave the remaining years of her life, aiding him at work at Chevron research and in his Vallejo law office.
She enjoyed traveling, giving care to young and old family members including her and Hal's parents, saving our environment, collecting odds and ends, playing games with her family, gardening, following world and local events, and giving her family and friends time, money and sage advice - "Be calm, be loyal, be quiet, act with digintiy."
Other survivors include her sister, Elizabeth Murphy (Pacific Grove); her brother, Robert Bridges (Pacheco); four stepchildren, Matt, Steve and Greg (Nicky) Messner, and Lynne Jolitz (Bill); 19 grandchildren, including locals Shaina, Mandi and Eliot Laub, all of Sacramento, Sean and Evan MacIntire and Deanne and Davey Snyder, all of Vaca-ville; and one great-grandchild as well as numerous nieces and nephews, who all loved her dearly.
Services will be held in the Chapel at Tulocay Cemetery, 411 Coombsville Road, Napa 94550, 252-4727, on Saturday, June 12, at noon. There is no visitation prior to the services and burial. A reception will follow celebrating her life at her home in Vallejo. Monetary remembrances should be made to the Kaiser Vallejo Hospice, 1761 Broadway, Vallejo 94589. Flowers are also welcome.
Ester Alvarado Angeles

Ester Alvarado Angeles, 87, died Saturday at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center, Vallejo. Born in Santa Maria, Ilocos Sur, Philippines, Mrs. Angeles was a resident of Vallejo for over 40 years.
A longtime retiree, she was an avid gardener and enjoyed cooking for family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Juan, and her son, Michael.
Survivors include her daughters, Alicia Teel of Oregon and Emelda Kaczor; sons, Jose Javier and Angelo Javier; sisters, Florence and Patricia; brother, Esdras; and nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and Tuesday with a 7 p.m. vigil Tuesday at Colonial Chapels, Vallejo. Prayer services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Colonial Chapels, Vallejo. Burial will be at Sunrise Memorial Cemetery.

Alberta Sara Elizabeth Womble, 84, a 65-year resident of Vallejo, died Wednesday at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center, Vallejo. Inurnment will be private.
Marian J. 'June' Jackson
June 23, 1918 - May 27, 2004
Marian J. "June" Jackson, 85, died May 27, 2004 at Mendoza's Board & Care after a long illness. Born in Fairhaven, Mass., Ms. Jackson was a resident of Vallejo.
Survivors include her sister, Ada May Rogers of Sequim, Wash.; niece, Beverley Biggs of Vallejo; great nephew, Tim Biggs of Vallejo; and great nephew and Godson, Michael Biggs of Cannandaigua, N.Y.
She gave so much love and was caring to her family.
Inurnment will be private. Arrangements were made by Wiggins-Knipp Funeral Home. Contributions are preferred to Sutter Hospice, 1900 Bates Ave., Suite A, Concord, CA 94520.
Lena Nichelini Barber-Gant
Aug. 25, 1908 - June 4, 2004
Lena Nichelini Barber-Gant, 95, died Friday of natural causes in Palm Springs.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin and Giconda Nichelini, and husband, Bert Barber. A lifelong resident of Vallejo, she was an active member of many organizations, including the Italian Lodge. She is survived by her husband, Ross Gant, and three children and numerous grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
As a young woman, she and her husband, Bert, a singer, traveled as Vaudeville entertainers in the 1920s before retiring to raise a family.
Survivors include her husband, Ross Gant; son, Bert Barber of Indian Wells, Calif.; and daughters, Beverly Loney of Vallejo, Calif., and Shirlee Pilling of Yucca Valley, Calif.
Viewing will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Skyview Memorial Lawn. Funeral services will be at Skyview Memorial Lawn at 12 p.m. Thursday, and interment will be at All Souls Cemetery
immediately after.
John Willie Bolds

John Willie Bolds, 77, of Vallejo, died May 31, 2004, at Sutter Solano Medical Center, Vallejo.
Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today, with a quiet hour from 7 to 8 p.m. at Cooley & Riolo Mortuary, Vallejo. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at True Hope Church, San Francisco. Burial will be at San Joaquin National Cemetery, Gustine.

Annie M. Reed, 77, died May 29 at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center - Vallejo after a long illness. She was a Vallejo resident for 50 years.
Visitation will be 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Skyview Memorial Lawn, Vallejo. A funeral officiated by the Rev. Elton Stevens, will be held 11 a.m. Monday at Victory Church of Deliverance, Vallejo. Burial will be at Skyview Memorial Lawn, Vallejo.
Ruth E. Sullivan
Feb. 22, 1907 - June 2, 2004
Ruth E. Sullivan, 97, passed away on Wednesday at Sutter Delta Hospital in Antioch following a short illness. Born in New House, Utah, she had been resident of Antioch for the past four years.
She was a sales retail clerk for 31 years at Levees Department Store in Vallejo, retiring in 1971. She was a longtime member of the Retail Clerks Union in Vallejo, and lived in Vallejo for 60 years prior to living in Antioch.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Dan J. Sullivan; sister, Marcheta Lani; and brother, Charles Elmer. Her survivors include her daughter, Nancie (Marvin) Daniel of Antioch; sister, Lucille Ritenour of Virginia; granddaughter, Susan (Joel) Johnson; great-grandson, Taylor Johnson; and great-granddaughter, Kathleen Johnson, all of Ventura.
Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, June 6, at Skyview Funeral Chapel, 200 Rollingwood Drive, Vallejo. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, June 7, at Skyview with the Rev. Judith Jones of First Christian Church, Vallejo, officiating. Burial will be at Skyview Memorial Lawn.
