Beatrice O. Alarcon, 83, of Vallejo, died July 31 at Sutter Solano Medical Center in Vallejo.
A memorial mass will be held
10 a.m. Friday at the Mausoleum Chapel in All Souls Catholic Cemetery
with Father Pat Stephenson officiating. Inurnment will follow.
Cremation and arrangements are under the direction of Twin Chapels Mortuary.
Ida Lofton
May 5, 1925 - July 26, 2003
Ida B. Lofton died on July 26, 2003 in St. Louis, Miss., after a long illness.
Born in Alberdine, Miss., she was a Vallejo resident for 50 years.
She was a school teacher at Elsa Widenmann Elementary and worked as a nurse at Crestwood Convale-scent Hospital for 26 years.
Survivors include her two sisters and brother, 10 children, William, David, Dennis, Danny, Glenda, Belinda and Ida Mae, all of California; James and Reola of St. Louis, Missouri; Letha Jane of Memphis, Tennessee; 22 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at Ted Foster & Sons in St. Louis, Missouri on Friday, Aug. 1, 2003 at noon.
Phillip Antonio Gutierrez
April 2, 1933 - July 30, 2003
Phil Gutierrez, 70, passed away Wednesday, July 30th at Kaiser Hospital following a long illness. Born in San Francisco, he was a Vallejo resident for over 60 years.
An all-star high school athlete, he graduated from St. Vincent Ferrer High School in 1951 and University of Santa Clara in 1955. Phil was an insurance agent/broker for over 45 years and ran his own business, Gutierrez Insurance Agency in Vallejo for 30 years.
A loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother, he will be greatly missed. He enjoyed spending time with his family and will be remembered for his love for life, generosity and sense of humor. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Dee; daughters, Lisa Wilson, Dawn (Ruell) Cayabyab and Nicci (Don) King; grandsons, Phillip Wilson and Dominic, Carlo and Antonin Cayabyab, of Vallejo; brother, Roberto (Karyn) Gutierrez, nephews, Zachary and Nico, and niece, Kristin Gutierrez of Connecticut.
Visitation is Monday and Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. with a vigil service at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Colonial Chapels. Funeral mass is 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Vincent's Church. Burial to follow at All Soul's Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Heart Association and American Diabetes Association.
Ruby Webb, Aug. 27, 1927 - July 29, 2003
Ruby "Grandma Honey" Webb, 74, died Tuesday at Napa Nursing Center after a long illness.
Born in Tallulah, La., Mrs. Webb was a resident of Vallejo.
Mrs. Webb lived as a homemaker and was a longtime member of St. Mark Baptist Church where she served on the Mother's Board.
Survivors include her husband of 55 years, Arthur L. Webb Sr.; daughters, Barbara Lo-Chin of Vallejo and Yolanda Webb of Sacramento; stepdaughter, Ersenee Clark of La.; sons, Arthur Webb Jr. of South Pasadena, the Rev. Raymond Webb Sr. of Laguna Hills, Michael Webb of Los Angeles, Danny Webb Sr. and Ronald Webb Sr. both of Vallejo and Anthony Webb Sr. of Suisun; grandchildren, Robyn, Eric, Raymond II, Randall, Jarrett, Clyde Jr., Courtney, Sarelle, Jasmine, Jessica, Danny Jr., David, Ronald Jr., Latasha, Lamar, Tifani, Anthony Jr. and Asia.
A visitation with a quiet hour is planned from 4 to
6 p.m. Sunday at Cooley and Riolo Mortuary.
Funeral services are planned for 11 a.m. Monday at St. Mark Baptist Church of Vallejo with Pastor Charles A. Brown officiating.
Barbara Hughes
April 24, 1931 - July 25, 2003
Mrs. Barbara G. Hughes passed away on July 25, 2003 at the age of 72 in Vallejo; a resident of American Canyon for 36 years, she was born in Placerville, Ohio, on April 24, 1931.
Mrs. Hughes was a teachers assistant at the Benicia Unified School District for 13 years
Preceded by her husband of 44 years, Tommie Ray Hughes on Nov. 6, 2001, she leaves behind her daughter, Cindy A. Foulk of Vacavillle; son, Tommie Ray Hughes Jr. of American Canyon; three grandchildren, Richard Allen Hall Jr. (Christina), Alex Robert Foulk, Melissa Maria Mitrea, and one great-grandchild born on July 25, 2003; aunts Nelie Metz,Ida Huffman and an uncle, Westley Metz, all of Ohio. A private burial will take place. Services were cared for by Struble Family Funeral Services.
Richard Oro Veloso
Sept. 28, 1957 - July 29, 2003
Richard Oro, Veloso, 45, of Vallejo died Tuesday due to a car accident on Interstate 780 in Vallejo.
Visitation will be held 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday at Colonial Chapels. Funeral services will be 4 p.m. Saturday at Colonial Chapels. Burial will be at Manila Memorial Park, Philippine Islands.
Barbara Sylvia Quinney
Feb. 6, 1928 - July 13, 2003
Former Vallejoan Barbara Sylvia Quinney, 75, died July 13 at her ranch home in Reedley after a long illness.
She attended local schools, graduating from Vallejo High School in 1945 and from Vallejo College in 1947. She attended Parsons School of Design in New York City and returned to California, working in the entertainment industry in San Francisco and Los Angeles before returning to Vallejo as director of the newly opened Children's Wonderland Park.
In 1971 she was named Woman of the Year by the Vallejo Business and Professional Women's Club.
Miss Quinney is survived by her sister, Loris (Mrs. Philip) Ryan of Fresno, and her niece, Ellen Ryan of Knoxville, Tenn.
Charles Edgar Gibson
July 2, 1920 - July 28, 2003
Charles Edgar Gibson, 83, died Monday at home after a long illness.
Born in Belvedere, he was a Vallejo resident for 74 years.
Mr. Gibson was a painter for private contractors for 35 years and then worked as a painter at Travis Air Force Base for 23 years before retiring in 1981. Mr. Gibson served in the Navy from 1942 to 1946. He served in World War II in North Africa, the South Pacific and Philippines. He was with the "Ceabees" Construction Battalion from 1942 to 1945.
He was a member of Community Presbyterian Church and Vallejo Moose Lodge No. 468. He enjoyed painting, traveling and family.
He was preceded in death by one sister and three brothers.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Elizabeth of Vallejo; daughters, Cheryl Ann (Bob) Gregory of Fort Worth, Texas, and Sandra Lee (Benny) Hengemihle of Vallejo; son, Raymond E. (Debbie) Gibson of Napa; grandchildren, Stephanie and David Tobey of Vallejo and Jeffrey and Alison Gregory of Fort Worth, Texas; and great-grandson, Jordan Charles Tobey of Vallejo.
Visitation is from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Skyview Garden Chapel. A graveside memorial is planned for 10 a.m. Saturday at Skyview Memorial Lawn. A memorial service will be held at noon Saturday at Community Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Nancy Martin Vincent officiating. Burial will be at Skyview Memorial Lawn.
